  6. Confession: This is going to be really hard to admit to everyone, but I just want to make sure members of the community can understand what is happening before I announce it. I am afraid to tell my other friends this confession, so I thought this might be the best place to do it. That being said, this may come as a surprise to a lot of you, but I like female butts. I'd like to thank PLUM and Ro-Kyu-Bu! for creating such a masterpiece. PS - Samurai Jack is coming back to TV. Fuck yes.

  10. You can skip this part and go to the tutorial if you want: So after doing a lot of searching I finally found the perfect text hooker to read untranslated vns in the way I want to. Say hello to Chiitrans Lite *NOTE: Please bear in mind that there is no such thing as the perfect software, this program has some issues so it might be useful to your or not. I'm doing this tutorial because I found it very useful and wanted to share it. What other softs I tried and why they didn't work for me: Visual Novel Reader *The parser is awful. (biggest problem) *It uses a lot of resources, it takes a lot to load up. *I don't use 90% of the functions. *Checking the translated words is a pain and really slow, every time you hover the mouse on the words you need to close the tab with the translation. Translation Aggregator: *You cannot full screen and read at the same time. *The interface is old and it makes it awkward to read a vn with it. It is ok if you are studying or using it to help you out for something in particular but reading a whole novel in 800x600 is not fun... All the problems I had with those programs were fixed with chiitrans. So here is my tutorial How do I start using it? IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT A GUIDE TO SHOW YOU HOW TO USE MACHINE TRANSLATION BUT TO READ WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF A PARSER (I WON'T BE ABLE TO HELP YOU IF YOU NEED TO INSTALL ATLAS OR ANY OTHER MT PROGRAM) 1) Download the software from here: https://alexbft.github.io/chiitrans/ Install .NET Framework 4 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-ph/download/details.aspx?id=1785 and https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=40784 You can chose the .zip version which doesn't need an installation (portable) or the .msi installer. You don't need to download anything else! Atlas V14 if you want to. 2) Open the software after installing it or downloading it. You can either click on: A) and search for the .exe of your vn in your pc or click on B) and then execute the .exe of the novel, after that just click on C) Connect and the game will lunch. 3) Now you can use the text hooker that comes with the program itself (AGTH) which works perfect most of the times or use ITH. Once the vn is loaded it will automatically search for the text, if you don't see it click on "TL Window" and it will appear Select the correct text you want the program to show, in this case all of them were correct, sometimes it will show you one that it has the name of the character speaking, one that it doesn't, one with is just random garbage, etc. Don't forget to deselect the ones you don't want to use! You can also add codes for agth, once the novel is lunched just go into Options>Text Capture and there click on "Install user hooks" And that's pretty much it! What do I do if the program doesn't hook the text from the vn that I want to read? If the program doesn't find the text do this instead: First of all don't run the novel with chiitrans like I explained before just open the program and open the vn separately since you are not using AGTH there is no point in using chiitrans to lunch the vn. 1) Open the option menu > Text Capture> select "Capture text from clipboard" 2) Lunch ITH and hook the text of the novel (there is a tutorial at the end of this thread that will teach you how to hook the text with ITH) 3) Run the vn normally and that's it, it will automatically copy the text from ITH and pasty it on the textbox, don't use anything else while reading or it will start copying everything that you are reading. *If for any reason the program doesn't start grabbing the text from ITH, just select the text from the ITH textbox and click on copy and from then on it should work alone. 4) and that's it! Note: you can just paste text into the textbox if you want and use it as a parser for anything you want not just vn. Inside the program: Looking the translation is really easy you just need to hover the mouse over it, just like translation aggregator You can move the textbox wherever you want and make it bigger or smaller or make it transparent or just black so you can't see the background. When I go full-screen the textbox appears white, is not transparent anymore!! Help!! If the textbox changes to white when you go full screen do this. 1) Select with your mouse the menu where you can make the screen transparent 2) click on it. If you still can't fullscreen the vn and see the textbox at the same time, there are some novels (very few) that have this problem, for example Aster. There is a trick that works on some of them. For this you need Visual novel reader. 1)Download VNR from here https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B3YXxE6u-4bzc1RKWHpoLWZROTQ 2) Open your vn with VNR. 3)Once is loaded go to the side bar and click on the "FS" and use the one that suits you better, in this case was "fullscreen" and "padding" Tadaaaa When I go fullscreen I don't see the textbox Use romaji 1)Go to options 2) Parsing and select Latin You can translate words or names 1) select the words you want to translate with the right click 2) Left click and "Add new name" 3)Insert the word *This is really useful for me with names (I hate reading names) and katakana words, all the words and names that you add will stay saved and will be used next time they appear in the novel. You can add your custom list too: 1) Go to options > Parsing >Edit names... 2) you can add your list of words there, all the words and names you have added will be there too. 3) they need to be added like this: "タブー = Taboo" Sometimes some words are not correctly parsed To correct parsing errors do this (the program will remember this correction): 1)Select the text that is incorrect by selecting it with your left mouse button 2)Right click on the selected text and click on "Re-parse with selection" Finally using Atlas or any other online translator if you want (I will assume that you know how to install atlas, once installed the program doesn't need any configuration it will use it automatically): NOTE: *Here is a tutorial on how to install improve a little bit the ATLAS translation if you want: http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php/79006-fhc-dictionary-of-ATLAS-Japanese-Translator 1)Go to Option 2)Translation > display both or just translation 何 wtf atlas.. If you want to use another translator: 1) Go to Options > Translation > Additional Translators and then just select from the right box of "Available translators" and drag them to the left side of "Selected Translators" And that's it, start reading your untranslated vns fullscreen without any problems Now that you are able to read untranslated vns you are going to be the coolest guy/girl in your neighbor. ITH Guide Notes: *You can download ITH from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ie6ypsake9v9n6b/ITH_2015-03-04%282%29.7z and if you want to hook psp, ps2 and wii games use this ITHVNR (props to stomp for this modified version) *List of engines supported for ITHVNR *If you can't find any thread to hook with ITH then you will need to use a code for it. H-CODES list How to hook up text with ITH: 1) Open your vn first and then ITH 2) Inside ITH go to Process and select your vn from the list 3) Click on Attach and then OK 4) Once inside the vn you need to read some text 5) Select from all the rows the one that shows the text you are reading on the vn, sometimes you will have many rows to select from others just a few, in this case only 2 6) Once you see the text is being displayed on the ITH textbox, open chiitrans lite (don't connect/lunch the vn with it!) 7) Click on TL Window 8 ) Copy the text from ITH textbox and you're done. Common problems with ITH that I know of: *If the text for any reason splits and you hook half and the other half comes after so it makes the reading really annoying just change in options the "split time" from 500 to 2000.

  12. Image by Kieta Reimu. The main character of the touhou series and the current miko of the Hakurei shrine, carrying the burdens of managing the Hakurei Border and exterminating dangerous youkai. The personality of touhou characters is generally decided by the fandom, while the characters themselves only have the minimum amount of phrases needed for people to have a line on what they're thinking. This leads to, of course, several differents interpretations of how they are. In the most dark and serious works, Reimu is portrayed as a reluctant hero who is regularly forced into nigh-impossible battles against eldrich-like abominations wearing the face of humans, capable of bending concepts to their will, armored with nothing but her yin-yang floating orbs, flying power and aptitude with magical barriers. She will be portrayed as the only sane, trustable force fighting for the sake of humanity- her only allies being the only person she could call a friend, an unreliable, insane cleptomaniac witch fighting for the sole sake of finding treasures who is essentially a youkai in mind... And a totally green miko from a different shrine more occupied with swindling humans into worshiping her gods than actually protecting anyone. Wild and horned hermit suggests she's bitter about losing her parents (through the quote: "Believe not they will be around for you always: parents and daylight" [which is a modification of some haiku I forgot, by the way]) In comedic works, she's a poor miko going around looking for donations with a bunch of youkai friends who keep spooking humans away from her shrine, preventing her from getting any money. All in all, Reimu is a very well-known figure in the touhouverse that can be used in several different ways, and it would be impossible to cover them all. As the Hakurei miko, she is also arguably the most important character in the whole project- And definitely one of the most interesting ones, too. I leave you with a song about Reimu by Alstroemeria Records - Highly Responsive to Prayers.

  19. Read more. There would be evident, who is extra victim he was refererring (actually it was quite evident by me from the start). Actually (as I told somewhere) with Yukiko there is a flag, how much time you meet her. And if there is less than 3 - you would get a Holy prophet ending. Walkthrough covers all these matters, so if you follow it - you would never stuck. There are flags, which depend on meeting with some people, whom you could only meet when you go into certain location. Most notable is Yukiko.

    What are you playing?

No As much as Hoshimemo became a running fad on Fuwa and characters have been subsequently used as mascots, the vn itself is both ridiculously overhyped and overrated; it extends so far, people are unable to see how flawed it is, not to mention all the incitors around (hello Steve o/), who profoundly believe it's the best game ever created If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend this non-biased review, written by Ren.

  25. Yes. Specifically the puzzles were frustrating. You have to understand that this was the first game I played with any puzzles requiring 3D spatial awareness. I'm pretty sure I had played Mario 64 with no problems before this, and that was the sum total of 3D game experience. I also played it without any sort of guide because, at the time it came out, I don't think we even had internet service, let alone would I have even considered the radical idea of using the internet to find a game guide. At any rate, I think it was after a couple of hours wandering around Jabu Jabu's belly, still unable to finish doing whatever it was that needed doing, that my (nearly-nonexistent, because I was probably 13 at the time) patience wore out and I just shelved the game indefinitely.

  27. Ohhhh Ever17, the VN that has beaten me time and time again. I can not count the times that I picked it up and dropped it right the fuck back down. It's just sooooo boring, to this day I have only finished two routes. I just can not stick with it, no matter how many people tell me that the true end makes it all worth it.
    1 point
  28. Having read this recently, I must agree that it was really slow read at times and that the ending for some reason did not want to be logical. However, were the routes really that bad in terms of writing and structure? When I was reading my first route, it was engaging and did set up a nice atmosphere. I think it was the fact that the routes had a lot of overlap and only subtle clues that makes it a boring read.

  30. I poked around and it looks like Overflow wasn't the only party holding the patch up. JAST appears to be relying on outside contractors to make the patches--contractors whose first priority is not JAST releases. Thus making the patch means coordinating between two third parties: Overflow and outside contractors, both of which JAST has limited control over. That's why the patch(es) are taking so long. The only thing worse than relying on a third party to get something done quickly is relying on TWO third parties, both of which aren't getting paid for the extra work. Obviously they're going to drag their feet as much as possible because time is money and time spent working on patches is time that could've been spent on higher priority projects (e.g., Kickstarter projects, which report directly to backers and where speed directly affects their ability to get future projects funded).

  31. So, touhou. It's a bullet hell game series that happens in a feudal-japan-like land named 幻想郷 (Gensokyo- Roughly "Land of illusion"). Gensokyo's is a sealed-off, haunted area of Japan that went missing several millenia ago. It is estimated that the region is sealed off because the youkai that lived there had a reign of terror over japan, and brave human expeditions constantly tried to exorcise and anihilate them. The vicious battles could have lasted from months to decades, but what is known is that they ended with the creation of the Hakurei Shrine there, who made a barrier that completely took the land off the map, and no one can enter, leave or see the place. Ever since the creation of the hakurei barrier, the only gateway to the common world has been the hakurei shrine, isolated amongst several mountains. While leaving to the human world is virtually impossible for any Gensokyo resident (a few extremely rare exceptions aside), it's relatively easy for powerful beings to access other lands which aren't part of Gensokyo, like Higan, Makai, the Netherworld and a few others... Gensokyo's population consists mainly of youkai, but there's a human settlement in the land as well. Most youkai are known to eat humans regularly- they are also all significantly stronger and live much longer, with their lifespans often reaching millenia. To know more about youkai I would suggest reading the Youkai article in Perfect Momento in Strict Sense, which will explain them with some detail. This is somewhat outdated/wrong, but here's a map of Gensokyo, which I will expand on further in another episode of touhou lore, where I examine geographic locations in-depth. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments, if you have any.

  32. you dont need to use a machine translation, many of us here use it for the parser and the dictionary (and the mighty furigana ) but the option to use MTs is there and it doesn't hurt to have it in fact many people read vns that way.

  33. @kawasumi this is the best I can do, bandicam doesnt record fullscreen so when I go fullscreen in the novel you just see in the top left of the video a simulated FS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_6ZfMDlYQw what translator are you using? Using the default one EDIT: I also tried using ITH, but it gave the same error. wait the "error 503" is related to the translator you are using not the text hooking method. are you using the machine translation right? ah my mistake, yes thats what I am using then. try using other translator, check the part in my tutorial with this title "Finally using Atlas or any other online translator if you want (I will assume that you know how to install atlas, once installed the program doesn't need any configuration it will use it automatically):"

(Link's Awakening takes the cake when it comes to story, I would love a LA remake with ALBW graphics on 3DS.Gotta play Majora's Mask 3D sometime, seems to be the only Zelda game where story matters and is a dark story, too bad it's 40€) I'm having a lot of fun with it.

  39. Characters good, story bad - may be playable if the characters are really good Characters good, story medicore - playable Characters bad, story good - may be playable if the story is really good Characters mediocre, story good - playable Characters good, story good - on my priority list to play first I play a lot of visual novels. And what I've found is that in these days it's generally pretty rare to get a game with any sort of stand out storyline (keep in mind I play them in Japan as they come out). This means that I end up playing a lot of games with mediocre, same old recycled trope storylines. When I find a game that actually breaks those molds, I'm delighted... but that doesn't happen most of the time. You can only play so many school romance style visual novels before you start being able to easily map out things like 'oh, so it's X,X,X,X,X, and X' and then things play out exactly as you expect. In the words of The World Only God Knows, 'I can see the ending!' This happens because a lot of the stories you encounter in certain settings are heavily formulaic. Most of the time it's the same general tropes, but with a specific twist. Once you understand how the twist plays out, it's generally pretty rare for you to be surprised by the story. What keeps games like that alive are the strength of the characters and the VAs voicing them. I can have the most medicore storyline possible where I can predict everything that happens... but still enjoy the game if the characters are fun and interact well. And every so often you find a standout character that you really really enjoy the performance for, that you'll remember for a long time, even in the midst of a relatively mediocre storyline. However, if the characters are bad - as in, I actively dislike them and/or the VAs performance, it is really hard for me to get into a story even if it is very good. In order for me to care about the story, I need to care about the characters and the protagonist. If that's not there, I have a lot of trouble liking the game, even if it does have a good story. And keep in mind, this is not just visual novels - this is true for me across ALL media. Obviously though the best games come when you have a very good, unique storyline and a cast of really solid characters. Those are the game I prioritize playing first, and those are the games I will usually recommend to other people first as well. Also, on the risk of sidetracking this discussion, I also have to add artwork as something that causes me to like/dislike games. Usually more in the 'dislike' area - I've had games where the artwork was just bad, bad enough that I couldn't get into the game. Now, certain games I'm fine with this - notably Type Moon and Ryukishi07, back when they didn't really have access good artists. But there's been a few games by professional companies where I would just look at the art, shake my head, and not play the game. Generally speaking, it helps that such games also tend to have low quality characters and storylines as well. Also, I'd like to note that bad art has nothing to do with me disliking a particular art style. Style I can get used to - look at AXL's and certain liar-soft games, who have a very distinctive art style. They took a bit of getting used to, but I played games from those studios and still enjoyed them. I'm talking actively bad artwork with characters drawn like the artist had no idea of proportion. To the point where I'm wondering just how much and where they found the artist. I can't play games with actively bad art if they are from a professional studio. Doujin works, or games that were originally doujin works, at least get something of a pass. But a professional game studio should at least be able to find one good artist.

  40. Well, if you have read this VN already and you really liked it/love it I don't see a point why you shouldn't buy it to support dev/pub and get more of their titles o_O? G-Senjou is still one of the best titles for people starting VN journey, so SP decided to license it and upgrade and finally release on Steam(and hopefully off-steam too) If there will be Denpa release, I'll buy 18+ version for sure, if there will be some kind of patch to Steam release version which unlocks H-Scenes, and it'll be released at later date without game being on discount, I'll probably won't buy it then, I'll wait for another sale. I still think that hardcore VN fans shouldn't go up with all this cutting h-scenes/steam release/all-ages version/psvita ports bullshit, cause it's like giving in. You buy once, you'll get the same sh** next time :/ Supporting IMHHW (I mean the publisher in that case) is a bad idea, cause it's crappy translated, and they're not willing to fix it.
