We are in good shape. 30% or so is usually above average by this time. Just keep adding more rewards/expanding on existing tiers as we go along, considering that's usually how you can get the ones on the edge to actually start pledging. Thanks for bringing this up! Question for everyone on expanding reward tiers: Prior to the campaign, we thought about making the physical copy an add-on, but for a few reasons we decided not to. Since the campaign has begun, a few people have asked if we would do so. We're pretty flexible, but would like to ask your opinion before going forward if you don't mind. 1. Is there any change you might suggest making to any of our tiers (is there one in particular that sticks out)? 2. Do you think more people would be happy to see a physical copy as an add-on? Even though only a few people have asked about this, we realize not everyone will choose to reach out to us. Thanks for your help! And, Cerulean, when you say "we", it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. The campaign has been shaping up to feel like a group of united supporters, hasn't it. ;-) Figurine are the answer see the Muv-Luv kickstarter. They are the most wanted and pledged high reward tier for VN kickstarter. (Bought one for 700$ for myself with 2 figures and a jacket) edit: Almost forgot hugpillows Thats also a good one for high reward tier.2 points -

Just random thoughts, but I suspect many in our niche demograph are running low on cash that can be spared for VNs - it has been (pleasantly) a full year with alot of potential releases, and also with it being christmas time, probably doesn't help much. Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys - It's lost some momentum, but it's still early on and has a decent chance of pulling through (Hey, if Wish can make it so can you guys...even if the costs are vastly different, heh). For what it's worth, dropped my money into it.2 points -
"It's a Good Day to Die" - Fuwanovel & XCOM
Funyarinpa and one other reacted to kyrt for a topic
Mission 4: Operation Fading Sleep Alien Intelligence Reports I took a break from XCOM when fallout 4 came out and while I'm still playing that and Witcher 3 the recent videos and information released on XCOM 2 have gotten me back in the mood for XCOM. I still plan to go through an entire game (winning or losing) before XCOM 2 is released bu we'll have to see. This particular mission was pretty easy (and designated easy and that's partially because I was hoping to be able to upgrade one of the units so I could get squad size increase but unfortunately that is proving a bit elusive with picking random people each time. Hopefully it doesn't cause me to wipe in the future. I also have to say I was quite impressed with Funnerific this round for taking 3 enemies out at once with a rocket...had that attack not connected I imagine at least one of the four would have died.2 points -
holy crap, of course fucking someone, whilst chopping his/her limbs off, is illegal, BUT this is considered fucking fiction & as long as i know its up to everyone himself if he gets off of pink romantic intercourse, or piss & shit, or titty-lacking lolis, or raping donkeys, or getting your waifu banged by a group of homeless ones, or in this case even cute chicks beeing forced to give autofelatio to their own innards. seriously you dont have to read stuff like that, neither try understanding its related fetish, but dont just demonise people doing so. please. edit. in some countries such content may be forbidden, but so is often its (seemingly) harmless pendant.2 points

Doujin Games
solidbatman and one other reacted to Mephisto for a topic
I've been playing a lot of doujin games recently and I figured I should post/review about them to give them some coverage. I don't know how that fuwa reviews or whatever crap works so I'm just going to post them in visual novel discussion. Doujin games are games made by small publishers and are typically pretty low quality and made to satisfy a niche (especially in terms of eroge). They are all basically nukige. Despite this, doujin games can be quite fun and a nice breather compared to long visual novels as doujin games are typically quite short, and some games are more than just nukige. There's a lot more that could be added on to this, but I'm too lazy so someone else can do that if they feel inclined to do so. Every Doujin game I play contains gameplay elements, as that is what I like. The first I will review will be Miniature Garden, as it is the game that has finally convinced me to do something like this. I was informed by the esteemed gentlemen over at that thing they call teamspeak that the game looked like hentai. While there is erotic content because it is a doujin eroge, the game has much more redeeming qualities than porn. Honestly, the images they chose to show on dlsite are quite poor representations of the game in my opinion, but hey maybe they thought it would boost their sales. They also are kinda spoilerly, because I didn't get to the darker parts of the game before I saw those images. Link to game >> http://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ141831.html Link to circle >> http://circlesekilala.blog.fc2.com/ >> Some teasers of some stuff in the review. Full review will be posted when I actually finish the game (here's hoping it doesn't dissapoint) Atmosphere: I’m not entirely sure if many people actually care about this, however this is extremely important for me. It greatly affects how well I can enjoy a game, and thus I will talk about what I liked about the atmosphere in the game. To sum up the atmosphere of the story, is that it is governed by a strong contrast between the light and dark forces within the game. (this ain’t no moege!) The real world is a dark place, filled with irrational and the unreasonable. However, in order to maintain our sanity we turn our eyes away from such things and live to the best of our abilities. Miniature garden is a dark world, and the darkness is just around the corner, but we as a player for the most part turn our eyes away from this darkness and instead indulge in the relatively cheerful and hopeful environment that surrounds the main character and the story(at least at first!) Gameplay: The gameplay is scenario based with a two-stage combat mechanic. The first stage is the standard dungeon-crawling set up, with monsters you can see on the map. Monsters have a detection circle, and if you engage with them while undetected by their detection circle, you gain an advantage going in to combat. The character also has a certain number of ranged attacks (type changes based on character) as well as SP for skills. If a monster engages in combat with you from behind, you gain a disadvantage going in to combat. The second stage is real-time combat. You press the left/right arrow keys to switch between enemies targeted, z to shoot with your weapon, a s d to switch stances, and x to activate skills. When your ammo goes to 0, you need to reload, during which you need to wait for the gauge under your health to fill up. Some guns refill one bullet at the time, while the submachinegun needs to wait till it can refill all the way to full before you get any bullets back. (You don’t need to empty the canister before reloading). Each character combat mechanics are a bit different, but essentially you want to stay alive, and bring the enemy’s HP to 0. Enemies also have a “break” gauge, which if you max out by launching repeated attacks stuns the enemy. This resets the gauge to 0, and makes it harder to max out based on each successive stun. (Gauge cannot be built while stunned) A degree of skill is required to actually beat the bosses/harder monsters in the game, as you need to manage your skills/ammo and enemy break gauges well. では、お楽しみを!2 points -
Welcome! Glad to hear you like the medium. It is really awesome. To answer the question, where to buy VNs. The western market is slightly limited, but there is still options out there. For instance, Denpasoft has a few novels, including Grisaia no Kajitsu, one of the most popular translated VNs. There is also Mangagamer, where you can find plenty of good, translated novels. (And also others that are ... less good, more "porny". But hey, to each their own.) Also, although most people don't like VNs available on steam, there is still plenty available there. Do keep in mind that 18+ content is not allowed on steam, and so usually these are censored versions. For the most part, the 18+ versions are available on the previously mentioned sites instead. Examples: Nekopara, Grisaia no Kajitsu, Princess Evangile etc. There is of course also the option of buying the Japanese game through a 3rd party who then ships it outside Japan, though this method is often very costly. (Think 100$+ for certain titles.) My reccomendations to start of would be: If my heart had wings (Steam, can install a restoration patch to get 18+ content) Grisaia no Kajitsu (Denpasoft 18+, or steam for all ages) Princess Evangile (Mangagamer 18+, or steam for an all ages version) Shuffle! + Tick! Tack! (sequel) (Mangagamer, 18+) Eden* They were only two on the planet (Steam, or Mangagamer for a 18+ version) Planetarian (steam, all ages version only) (@Kawasumi, I nearly reccomended Euphoria to this poor soul... Look what you have done to me! )2 points

what's the big deal?is a freaking game nothing more nothing else, if you dont enjoy to see someone fucking a head inside the stomach of another girl then dont watch/read it(by the way the head is alive xD), I read this novel and didnt bother me at all now if I come across to something like this in real life I will call the police, and probably seek a psychiatrist for the PTSD of watching something like that, but then again I understand the difference between REALITY and FICTION. You are not hurting anyone by reading things like this so why should anyone tell you that is wrong? if you are in a vn forum trying to appeal morality then this is the wrong place for that for sure, vns are based on taboo themes or what society in general consider wrong, one of the first novels if not the first one was based on this novel (https://vndb.org/v9545) for god's sake..1 point

If I'm not wrong it says... "Can't find gameexe.ini" "Can't find rl_d3d.dll. Please put rl_d3d.dll in the same place as RealLive.exe." (not sure how to TL the following one but...) "If the error continues or something, please change #D3D_ENABLE value to 0 in Gameexe.ini" Check if your Clannad folder has these things, if not I guess try reinstalling. Also I'm not sure if it's possible that the Japanese locale is interfering here1 point

What are you playing?
Tyr reacted to Chronopolis for a topic
Thought the exact same thing. Played through Princess Sacrifice over the last three days. It's a nukige rpg/vn hybrid. Princess Sacrifice reminds me of games like one-way heroics and Elona. It's set in the same middle-of-the-road fantasy. The big difference is the story, and the ero. The story is decent, nothing special, but what was nice was how they layed out the scenes and exposition. It's shortish for an rpg, and yet they managed to pack in a lot of dynamic scenes and varied maps. You even got a cool build up at the end. Just a very well produced game, and the it's sales reflect that. On dl-Site it's the 8th highest selling game of all time with a whopping 23k downloads. The story was, while not particularly twisted, was consistently dark and kinda melancholic. There was some funny comedic moments, but the ero kind of (understandably) gives the work a gloomy feel. Feena, the main character, is caring, diligent, while still remaining a bit cheerful, but you remember her most for her dedication. She and many others get the short end of the stick (no pun intended). One of those things were you look back and wince in retrospect. Of course, if this doesn't concern you, than the game merely ends up being the funnest ero/rpg ever. I sort of wish there was more dialogue with the main character...the characters feel sort of distant because, compared to normal VN's, you have much less time to see them talk. But that's just how the game was designed, and any more would have disrupted the balance. Most of the text is devoted towards advancing the rpg plot (comes along with a lot of non-MC H-scenes), and explaining the lore of the kugihime (the sacrifical princesses) and the world. There's also a lot of world exposition tucked away in the defeated H-scenes for the various monsters. It's kind of a miracle how they balanced so much H into a story without wrecking the story. In conclusion, Princess Sacrifice is a gem of it's type. Short and sweet, and with ero everywhere.1 point -

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
Jun Inoue reacted to Fred the Barber for a topic
Tales of the Abyss never grabbed me, so I only played it for a few hours, but from what I've seen of the cast, I can totally see where you're coming from. Still enjoying Disgaea 5. Given Jun's comments, I feel like I need to go back and give Disgaea 4 another chance - I never got more than a couple chapters into it, so I really didn't give the characters a fair shot. I do remember some of the mechanics in that one making it hard for me to stick with it, but I shall persevere. As far as Disgaea 5 being cliché... it's undeniable that the game is filled with clichés (all Disgaea games are), but at least for me the overall experience was still a good one. I didn't really internalize it until this iteration in the series, but I feel like the goal of most aspects of any given Disgaea game is to take something that's been done before, and then push it to a logical extreme, until it breaks in a funny and interesting way. The gameplay, with its ridiculous leveling, best exemplifies this, but it's also true of the stories and characters. Characters always start as larger-than-life caricatures, and the plot usually starts off as a hackneyed cliché (though in a bizarre setting). Then they look for ways to stand these things on their head, or to push them over the edge, thereby turning the caricatures into relatable people, or changing the clichéd story into a completely different (but probably still cliché) story, where usually everybody learns a valuable lesson about life, love, and the magic of friendship. Maybe it was a little more obvious this time than usual, but the formula worked ok for me this time too, and I grew quite attached to more of the cast than I usually do. All that said, apparently I've been playing too much Disgaea 5 and I fried my PS4 - it won't run for more than about a minute now. Tomorrow I need to try to upload my saved game to the cloud, get the game out of the console, and call Sony support... ugh. I just hope I don't lose my ~70 hours of progress on this game.1 point -

Kotaku did a decent article
CeruleanGamer reacted to Godskrieg for a topic
This truly is a sign of the end times, Kotaku can't release a well-written article, it was written in the law of the internet. Aside from that I agree that more companies in general should have better communication, 'tis a valid point. Other then that this just makes me affirm my stance on the whole "separation of fantasy and reality" subject. I still believe that anything that is not real, be it art, books or whatever else, is free game. For the love of god Game of Thrones is one of the most popular things out there right now yet one of the characters, who is 14 (or 13), gets raped by her new husband pretty early in the first book AND in the show as well, yet its so popular and no one is gathering pitchforks and torches and raiding George R.R. Martin's house, now are they? This leads to my point, she is not real, if your problem is that shes 13 then slap the age of 5641 on her and put her back in the bikini. Christ people, its fictional, no one was hurt in the making of this video game. (Except the programmers fingers from all that typing.) Just to clarify I haven't even played the game, nor do I care about the bikini.1 point -

I dislike the cliche of every single girl you meet in a VN being able to be persuaded into sex/falling in love with you. I'd love to see a VN where you try to start a route with one girl, and she's just like "You're not my type so no thanks." Try again, "No means no." What makes Grisaia no Kajitsu so great?
Canicheslayer reacted to VirginSmasher for a topic
Meiykuu is currently being translated by Sekai Project, like VirginSmasher said. Here is the most recent update they have made on ther progress: "Same as last month, there's been some schedule slips but we're still on track, once it's closer to being done we'll let you know. There's still technical/editing/qa work required after that so we do not have a firm release date just yet." Now the game is significantly shorter than Kajitsu, so it probably wont be as long to translate, not to mention that a good portion of the extra content in meiykuu is H-Scenes, that SP probably wont release, so thats less translating for them. (I believe that Kajitsu took about 2 years.) But we wont know anything for sure until they come with a more firm statement about its progress. I really hope they release the uncensored version anyways. I don't want to have to look at CGs just to see them. Even if they'll probably bog down the story for me, I've heard the major route in there is pretty good. I hope it doesn't turn out like how Majikoi S did for me.1 point -
