I'm sure the people working on the Angel Beats patch are pretty salty (unless they were bought out I guess). This is why you don't translate titles from companies that have entered the localization world. Also, I can't help but glance at that "Jun Maeda plans to do more with Charlotte". Please, don't. Seriously, just don't, there's so many great things you could invest your time on. One can hope I guess, but Kyonyuu Fantasy is so far off from what I expected that it really disappointed me lol. I will never understand these hostage analogies. Who wants the games? You. Who pays for the games? Also you. Who gets a cut for being the intermediary? Them. What's the problem? If enough people pay for the game, want the game, they release it. Else they don't. Most of the time kickstarters and indiegogo's even offer more rewards for those willing to spend more money for them. Kickstarter assures a company turns in a profit, regardless of the game's sales - EDIT: Which in turn assures the intermediary remains in the game, contacting more Japanese companies and bringing more stuff over, faster than any of the 3/10 Fan Translation Teams which deliver anything after years of slow progress. It also gives the fans more merchandise, cheaper prices, and more info and control over the direction they take (via Prefundia, for example - Some vehement complaints suggestions have changed a company's mind in aspects that, if they hadn't made a kickstarter, we wouldn't even know about until release. Muv-Luv's initial 'editing of the existent release' turning into 'pretty much retranslating the game' or Sharin no Kuni's "devilish" DLC policies being done away with). I don't get the supposed disadvantages of Kickstarter... What does it matter to you which black hole the money gets sucked into? If enough people want the game, are willing to pay for it, they'll get it. But if everyone kicks up a fuss over things that don't matter (a company whose sole objective is to make profit is being greedy? Better call the papers), nobody gets anything. EDIT: Of course, failure to meet the conditions imposed on the Kickstarter with no valid justification is good enough reason to stop backing a particular group. "Fool me once..."

Oh happy days Well... It could've been much better I'll say my 2¢ on the fandisc when I actually get around of playing it, but it wasn't an 'announcement' per se, when it was already kind of announcement Never cared about hardcopies ever, so these are kind of eh to me Kyonyuu Fantasy is definetly one of those nukiges I actually am interested in (aside from Bishoujo Mangekyou), so this was a pretty good announcement overall.

I'm a fan of the Kyonyuu Fantasy translation. Now @Arcadeotic won't have to hear me telling him to TL it. Other than that, 4 physical editions, a fandisc, and a nukige that I have wanted for a while now. In overall, not a great day announcement wise. Announcement of the day for me is Kyonyuu Fantasy and I could care less about any of the other announcements.

2236 is the most interesting announcement of the day imo. It's amusing how MG announced four hard copies in anticipation for selling a ton at AnimeExpo, and AX just now completely changed the rules for how adult content is sold, completely shafting them.

2 months and 9 days. That was rather fast, wasn't it. I mean, after over 5 months of getting to 500, my activity on this site really surprised me when I started to make this post. Anyways, thoughts on these past 2 months? Honestly, fast. It all went in a flash, and I had oh so much fun. I started a new thingy on my blog about mangas and it's thoroughly slowly dying there. Good shit. Other than that, I'm finally getting close and soon can read VNs freely in a bit. I also met a few nice new people, which I'll put in a spoiler because who really has time hear about me rambling on and on, which I do enough already. I'm also quite pleased on how the chat has been doing since I last talked about it. I also got my dirst Fuwa troll so that was fun. Nothing else much to say from these past two months, I've just been doing what I usually do. Now onto the nominations. Now that that obligatory segment is over, let's start up the part two: AMA. Hey all, it's time for another convention! Anime Central is starting just tomorrow, the 20th of May. It's the biggest convention until July's Anime Expo, and most of the major players of the VN world will be there! Except for JAST, I can't actually find them or J-List on the exhibitor's list on acen's website. All times below are CDT, or UTC -0500, I believe. I will attempt to keep this OP up to date with all the latest developments. VisualArts/Key VisualArts is one of ACEN's "premium partners" so they get a nice posh booth that you'll want to visit if you're a Key fan (Booth 11). They will also have a panel, too. It will be held at 4PM on the 20th. "Join CEO Takahiro Baba, Artist Na-Ga, and Composer Shinji Orito for this multimedia industry panel all about your favorite games and shows from VisualArts!" Announcements: VisualArts announced that the Clannad side-stories will release in just a few weeks, and that they have plans for an Angel Beats localization. Sekai Project Sekai Project will of course be present as well. They'll have a premium booth at Booth #61. Their panel will be at 5:30PM on the 20th. Sekai Project has teased two new announcements from two new partners. It's always hard to predict exactly what Sekai Project will announce, especially since they have a fondness for partnering with pretty obscure doujin and OELVN developers. They've announced some pretty big stuff recently, though, so who knows? Sekai Project were previously planning a livestream but it unfortunately had to be canceled due to a lack of manpower. Announcements: Sekai Project announced a couple new doujin titles, the sci-fi doujin VN 2236 A.D. and a side-scrolling platformer MAGICALxSPIRAL. The previously announced yuri VN Ne no Kami will have an IndieGoGo launch on May 25th. MangaGamer MangaGamer may have the dinkiest booth (Booth #410), but they'll have the biggest panel, at 9PM on the 20th. MG has teased six new announcements for this show, one of them from a new partner. You can see their site for it here. Things to expect from MangaGamer: A new hardcopy announcement, perhaps euphoria. An "official" announcement for The House in Fata Morgana's fandisc, which has already been announced within the first game, MG seems to be waiting to give it a proper announcement. For the remaining four announcement, I'm guessing one of them will be a BL or Otome title, basically whatever Good Haro is translating next. We might also hear about the next Alice Soft title they're licensing at this point. Many people are expecting their new partner to be Chuablesoft, which is indeed possible considering their CEO took to twitter last year to engage english fans and talk about localization possibilities. That could just as easily be one of SP's announcements, however, or maybe they haven't yet made a commitment to the western market. They're also overdue for announcing their future SonoHana plans. There's a lot of possibilities with MG's announcements, it'll be interesting to see how they play out. @Yotek says that he'll be at the event and will attempt to record the panels for those interested. If the box is sealed with some wrapping, they usually won't tear that wrapping open. But they can (at least here they do) open the box the package comes in to check if there's no dangerous goods inside (by dangerous I'm talking about guns and stuff). Usually the procedure is: If there's nothing explicit on sight, then it probably passes. So idieally the CD box is wrapped with non-transparent material. If it's not then you might want to re-consider. But like Down said, ideally you want to know how exactly do they handle packages.

I'm not sure it exists, but it's entirely possible to tell a story with images, sound effects and music alone. In VN format it'll probably end up looking like a prettied up slide show, however.

Seems like they didn't expect it to come so soon, and also that they're not involved in any way. I feel for them, but they really should have known this was a likely scenario with Key licensing all their big titles. This is why I abandoned the idea of translating SonoHana Nyu Jene after MG partnered up with the company. As much as I love the game, it's just not worth the risk. I think the "Well shit" sums it up, but I also appreciated this mention We almost did it guys!

Progressed a bit more with Tokyo Babel. Unfortunately the writer doesn't really seem to care about his own apocalyptic story, because he's pretty much just given a bunch of school clowns fancy names of angels and demons. Apart from that it's just run of the mill school life moege. Since it more or less already disqualified itself as a serious story VN, I try to do the same like in Comyu and just enjoy it for the slice of life comedy. It's a lot harder though because characers and writing are several leagues below Comyu. Well, maybe it'll get better sometime...

[nitpicky mode] I should probably clear up something. Holding someone hostage is when a person is taken from someone else, and held against their will until certain conditions are met. As a guarantee or blackmail or some such. If you want to apply it to an object, it would be something taken away from someone else and held until certain conditions are met. Sekai haven’t taken anything away from anyone, the game isn’t the community’s to demand. ‘Hostage’ is one of those emotive words people misuse when they want to make someone’s actions seem worse than they are.[/nitpicky mode] That being said, it’s only smart to be choosy over which kickstarter campaigns to support. But to be honest, I’m incredibly unmoved by the ‘I want this product but I won’t back it to get it. How dare they employ a business strategy I don’t agree with!’ argument. The world is full of products people may want but they are unable to obtain, for one reason or another. One more added to the list because of philosophical or moral differences isn’t going to make me cry great soppy tears for those who miss out.

went through my special something list & managed to come up with few good, albeit (partly) unique ones. well, here you go: kyojin-tachi (it´s a huge mess in more than one way) norukasoruka omega no shikai (every fukking single one of them) hotel ergriffen (quite some nice prose in there) umi kara kuru mono edit: tried my best in staying away from the extreme, though some may find the content of theirs still being morally & ethically questionable, depending on ones own upbringing. edit2: reg. omega no shikai, personally i found them being non suited for one to halt his/her read & decide on continue reading later on, simply because 1)the flow/ atmosphere gets broken 2)they can be slightly confusing, so there´s a risk of one non catching up to their plot . edit3: you also might want to give zigzag´s titles a try, especially kurai nichiyoubi comes to mind.

Finally completed my pilgrimage and finished Tokyo Babel Lilith's route was great. Samael and Cerberus made for great companions, they seriously blew every other side-character out the window. And let's not forget Mini-Lilith I also liked the implications regarding replicas and individuality. Anybody who's played the sci-fi horror game SOMA knows how fun it can be to ponder about that Best of all though, I finally got my heavily, heavily desired BUT, I feel the story could've, and should've, wrapped up around here, given how climaxy and powerful this moment was. But nope! Turns out you're only 50% of the way through, GLHF with 40% more filler battles before you can finally do final boss round 2 (which then only lasts like 5 seconds). TL;DR the second half for me suffered from ughhh pacing from the oversaturation of battle scenes. That difference between the Setsuna End and Lilith True End, though. Simply laughable. Like C'MON MAN, WHAT HAPPENED, YOUR POWER OF LOVE AIN'T STRONG ENOUGH SO YOU DROP HER, SETSUNA?!!! WTF!@#$ True End epilogue is one of the best epilogues I've ever read. And it was only 2 lines
