Grisaia no Meikyuu is out on Steam

Learning a foreign language will never be easy, but there are certainly ways of making it easier. When it comes to Japanese, there are two main recommended resources for the VN community: the Genki textbooks, and Tae Kim's guide to Japanese grammar. In this thread, I'll be talking about the latter, and some of the problems and advantages to learning with it. Oh, and the actual reason for this thread: it doesn't have a lot of exercises for repetition. While you can get by through just reading the guide and kinda fuzzily remembering where to look up concepts when you encounter them, I know people who had serious trouble learning much since it would just slip their mind. The exercises could potentially help these people out a lot, but I think they could benefit most people that don't have reals good memory faculties. It'll also feel nostalgic for >20-year-old neets who enjoyed school, a demographic that may or may not be overrepresented in the VN fandom. I may be projecting. Tae Kim, as you'll hear the guide called, is not without its flaws. However, its pure focus on grammar drew me to it far more than the Genki series of textbooks which has a more general approach. Also, you can get it without either paying for or pirating it, which may be relevant to some of you. Here's a sample of some stuff I actually wrote to help my own studies this one time when I really wanted to tryhard whilst studying: If it seems a bit barebones that's because it is; nicking some exercises from Imabi might be viable, though that's even more #effort and the guy who wrote the (somewhat overly inclusive) Imabi lessons might object. I wouldn't really care about that, but I'm sure some of you will. However, I think it's quite possible to write more general questions on the grammar concepts present in Tae Kim. Do feel free to post any complaints below; after all, I'm very open to any suggestion that work may not be required of me. I'm pretty bad at following through with anything requiring effort (actually writing this thing would take like an hour or more per lesson for me. I could be reading VNs or translating porn or something during that time!), so me actually completing this kind of project is extremely unlikely. With that said, it's 5am here and I felt like writing this shit anyway, so why the hell not? Maybe I'll spark something. With that said... Does there already exist something like this (for Tae Kim specifically)? There's not much point in making something that already exists, though obviously my version would be better because I'm super good at everything :makina:. Oh, and would you actually use it? Kinda pointless otherwise. Replies to Anticipated Responses [Things actually relevant to the thread] Can't actually think of anything, but I'm passable at the fine art of editing my own posts. [Shitposts] Well, as long as they're quality shitposts... [Shitposts by FSJPG circlejerk] シットポーストに逢うてはシットポーストを切る。多分。かもしれない。その。。。うち。。。に。。。。。。。 ^let the Fapanese memes flow through you [Unrelated questions as to why I'm great] I have an Ask.fm account gathering dust; you can find it linked in my signature. Ask me about why Utena is 5/10! Since you're never going to write this anyways, what can I use to learn in the meantime? I'm looking for a bit more meat than what you've linked already. A somewhat relevant post is literally stickied in this very forum section. Why'd you use "Fapanese" up there? I've been forcing this meme (that I made!) for so long that it's become part of my idio(t)lect. I even made some other people start using it. You should, too! I'm completely uninterested in this subject but your writing mesmerised me and I must have more! Read my VNTS commentaries on the Fuwazette. When I write them, that is; I didn't do anything for this last one as of 22/06. Also, I hope using that date format triggered some of you USians. tl;dr I felt like writing an overly long post about the need for exercises for Tae Kim's guide to Japanese grammar and asked whether anyone would be interested in having some written, and whether there would be a point to doing so. This is the result.5 points

All traces of the 'When They Cry' series gone from PSN?
Suzu Fanatic and 4 others reacted to Vokoca for a topic
Well hey, my mistake for thinking people here cared about VNs, I guess. If there was ever any chance of these releases ever making it to the west - or even MG just acquiring the rights to the Alchemist/Kaga assets - there sure as hell is none now.5 points -

So this isn't probably even news, but I've just noticed it now and don't remember seeing it discussed before. It was brought to my attention minutes earlier that Higurashi Sui, the collection of the 19 arcs spread across the PC, PS2 and DS releases of previous Higurashi titles, is going for a strangely high price on play-asia - that is, the VN now costs 100$. That in itself wouldn't be so strange, play-asia was never famous for being the cheapest import shop out there. I didn't remember the exact price at launch - I think it was something between 7 to 8 thousand yen, the regular game price - so I went to check the Playstation Store, which is where I've gotten my copy... but this is where things started to get weird. Looking for Higurashi gave no results. Assuming the search system was just being trash, I clicked my way to the game through my download list - only to be greeted by an empty page. Even the entries in the download list are missing proper icons. I even tried looking for the Umineko releases, which used to be listed on PSN as well - but just like Higurashi, they are also gone, without a trace. I have no idea what is going on. I can only assume that this has something to do with both Kaga Create and Alchemist going under some time back - but would that really make them flat out remove all their products? One thing is for certain - if you still want to get the console releases of the 'When They Cry' series,, you might want to do so as soon as possible.... before the price grows even more. TL;DR - Higurashi and Umineko deleted from PSN, meaning it is no longer possible to get a hold of a digital copy. Physical copies limited and going up in price.3 points

Episode 151 - Nash Out
DarkZedge and one other reacted to Nashetania for a topic
Hallo zusammen! Es ist Ihre Lieblings-Idol, Nashetania! ...is what I would like to say. Either way, I created this thread to inform all of you (even if you don't care *sobs*), that in 2 days (24th June) I'm leaving to Rhodes because of part-time job. I'll stay there for 12 weeks in Lindos Princes Hotel. There'll be 24 of us from my country - 16 girls (meaning 16 routes + 1 harem route) and 6 boys (including me)... so literally Koisuru Natsu no Nashetania Resort I'm not sure what exactly I will do there (they will tell me once I get there), but it will be most likely housekeeping. As for the pay... I'll get 340 euro per month and I don't have to pay for the plane ticket nor food or drinks. Now for mentions... @Flutterz Keep killing the chat while I am gone o/ @Zebhra You're the most russian Russian I have ever met, but I still like you @Snailmusk Keep training in Hearthstone so you don't have to get your ass kicked by level 6 Priest so much @Shikomizue You are probably the one I talk to the most... so... uh... thanks. @DarkZedge Dark-Zi-Edgy! @Valmore Hi! @Others Take care everyone and see you in 3 months or so. Try not to abuse lolis too much~ If any of you have any questions you want me to ignore, feel free to ask Nash, Out!2 points -
Feels very I wish they'd stop using "there's no use." Certainly mechanical. The characters are lacking some personality, especially Suguha. From the Japanese there's no way way he'd say "According to your information" and certainly wouldn't refer to a girl he liked and got rejected by as "Miss." No one does that in English... "I was rejected by Miss Sophie." Sounds like a fucking teacher, not a classmate. Oh well, there is no use. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Hopefully they'll get settled into the writing as it goes along and it'll improve over time.2 points

What Anime are you watching now?
LiquidShu and one other reacted to Kenshin_sama for a topic
Almost finished watching Gintama°. Fantastic series as I expected it to be, while at the same time surprising me in a few ways. I never once thought an anime would have me crying for a vending machine. And now I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever have the opportunity to experience everything I can in entertainment, lol. The Shogun Assassination arc was amazing too. Like, seriously, I never would have come to expect myself having any more respect for Gintoki than I had already, but it was an intense experience getting to know more about his past. And for him to turn out to be such an amazing character, it would make sense that his teacher would have been great too, but it was beyond the extent that I had imagined. Now I understand a little more about how his students felt so passionately about him, and why Takasugi hates the world so much. Woo, another person on board the Nodame train. You're in for a treat, really. I've never even been remotely interested in classic music, but the music in this series captured my heart. The characters are great, too. Very realistic, yet interesting enough to get you emotionally invested in them. Gyabo!2 points -
I was appalled by the quality and length of this post, until I saw this part. I'm proud of you, Zaka; グッジョブ! On a more serious note, if actual exercises are what you're after, getting a textbook might be the fastest way to get these. Aside from the already mentioned Genki, Minna no Nihongo is also a popular choice amongst the Japanese-learning circles; but both of these have their faults. If practice is what you're after, however, there are plenty of sites to help you out. If writing exercise is what you're after, you can get your stuff checked by natives, and alternatively do the same for others with the languages you're familiar with yourself. Want to practice your reading comprehension with something actually more applicable than porn games (oh no! (/ω\))? NHK has you covered, providing daily news with simple wordings and in-built japanese definitions of the more complicated words. Well anyone from FSJPG probably already knows these since I tend to throw them around at times, but others might perhaps find this useful. To add on the topic of studying after getting through the basic hurdles - that is to say, getting comfortable enough with the language: don't be afraid of using a Japanese-created dictionary. Jisho and Tangorin aren't the only useful resources out there (?! ). Give the, perhaps at first glance intimidating, Weblio a shot! The interface is in Japanese, but this particular section is a proper ja-en dictionary. From my experience, it comes in handy when looking up more specific expressions, and in general it just gives a much more... natural English counterparts to the Japanese inquiries compared to Jisho/Tangorin. It is also full of example sentences that it searches through too, so sometimes you might find things that don't even have a proper entry there either. The site also has a ja-ja section as well if you want to cut off the second language completely - and on that note, having at least one of the idiom dictionaries bookmarked is never a bad thing, either. And remember, the ultimate secret to learning Japanese - no matter what you are looking for, there will always be someone asking about the same thing on japanese Yahoo answers for you.2 points

What Anime are you watching now?

I know it's not quite the right thread, as this one is made in France, butt fuck it, no one reads the general movie thread. So through a lot of coincidence that i was mostly unaware of, I got to see Ghibli's first international co-production, The Red Turtle, weeks before its official release, with an hour-long Q&A/commentary with the director. Which was interesting. The movie was pretty awesome as well, just don't expect it to be Ghibli-esque in any way. It's mostly a classic fairytale with some very powerful undertones of family. in terms of visuals, it had some decent 2d and 3d animation, but absolutely stellar art direction. I'm not the kind of person to rate films, and i certainly don't intend to rate this one a 9/10.2 points -

It's not that I have a maid fetish, not that I'd mind if I did after all maids are cute as fuck and sexy as all hell but overall I always liked Stacey, Lee and Azumi from Majikoi. Always wanted them to have routes but Lee specially. Now that I got to do Azumi's I just can't stop wanting more of them. After all: (spoiler Cg watch at your own risk)1 point -

English version of ChuSinGura 46+1 released on Steam... for free?

i took some screenshots of the original game and this one. Some of the screenshots from the original game are obviously nsfw. They changed quite a few things apart from just censoring. Please refer to the spoiler.1 point -
Oop, found a mistake, referring to Asano as a "he." Twice. They've removed a lot of stuff even partially relating to 18+, which is pretty interesting. Like Yanagisawa asking Hinako to come to the club room, because he doesn't have money for a hotel. They didn't cut the audio though. You still get the implication anyway with the lines coming after I think, so maybe it was superfluous. Also they removed a couple lines referring to Christmas as being a night that lovers spend together. That one was excusable to me though, because we usually associate it with family instead.1 point

English version of ChuSinGura 46+1 released on Steam... for free?
Infernoplex reacted to Conjueror for a topic
ChuSinGura46+1 is like 60 hours long and has five ero scenes which are utterly terrible. The game is actually gonna be improved by cutting them out. Like, even FSN's sex scenes are a billion times more relevant to your enjoyment of the work. xD ...and I usually like ero in my VNs.1 point -

I know that you can disable them, but in terms of collecting info they have been doing it for longer than win10, everyone else has, they just decided to be upfront about it and they did it differently, it's oddly naive to think that they only started doing it now. No I don't, I realise the automation behind it, however there is human examination at some level, even after a lot of filtering and treatment of the info. My only point was that not upgrading to win 10 for the arguments made before is kinda fallacious imo.1 point
-
Only after Win10 was introduced and you can easily get rid of all the spy updates: https://voat.co/v/technology/comments/853510 Do you really think they use humans in the first stage of examining and evaluating of what they have collected?1 point
-
Tbh the spyware is on win7 as well, MS only came clean with their practice on Win10. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also the argument that ISPs have way too many users to actually go through info for each one of them applies even more to MS due to the millions of users worldwide. I've been using the thing since the preview builds with no complaints whatsoever. I even find win10 to be more lightweight than win7 to be completely honest.1 point
