Over two years. wow. a lot has changed in that time. torrents were still a thing and little hanako was peeking her pretty head out while grasping a heart on this page. i originally started here to thank someone for a completely forgettable vn he had posted on here and to post some vns myself. Maman Kyoushitsu ~Mirai no H na Obenkyou~ was my first. cant remember my second. mightve been the sort of expanded da capo vn with new routes and an easier way to know if youre picking the girl you want to hang out with. whoops, getting off topic here. god, does anyone remember when fuwa looked like this? or was even here when it looked like this? for some reason this is the image saved on my tabs in firefox. XD i dont know why but i love that it is. <3 Hanako. <3 you know, i dont know why i stayed after torrents were gone. i think i started to get in a discussion on the princess evangile thread and it just kept going. met some friends along the way, got to know people. it was fun. im glad i did though. i care deeply about this community despite my inactivity here. i dont really know what else to add so ill get started with the mentioning. @Funyarinpa the very first person to message me to ask about a vn. @Dergonu my absolute best friend here who i cherish dearly. @DarkZedge someone who i will always care deeply about, no matter what. <3 @TexasDice who i chatted nonstop on the princess evangile thread. i know we havent talked much lately but i still havent forgotten about you. @Eclipsed same with eclipsed. man those were some fun times. @CeruleanGamer who invited me into her secret cult. i mean... @VirginSmasher who accepted me into his secret cult. i mean... ... im really bad at this. @Deep Blue a pretty great guy. best of luck to you in uni deepy. @Forgetful Frank i miss you so much man. please come back soon. @Kawasumi my partner in crime in traps. TRAPS FOR LIFE! @Flutterz the lovable moe lover... who also likes traps. TRAPS FOR LIFE! @Kaguya a reasonable and kind hearted moderator. keep up the great work kaguya! @Asonn the lovable loli lover. you keep living that dream buddy. @AaronIsCrunchy who ive known recently and is a pretty great guy. @Ashbell the centaur addict. @Aizen-Sama for giving me a chance and starting a really great team. lotsa love man. no gay stuff... well, i mean, unless you... @Kiriririri youre something else kiririririririri. keep it up. @Hanako the great yuri lover. YES! THERE ARE OTHERS BESIDE DERGY! May 2, 2013. Wow. It's been over 3 years since I joined the site, and it's been almost 3 years since I became a mod, huh. I kinda want to say something, but I can't think of much to say. Rip. I'd say "what a curious conundrum" or something, but I don't want to spend muh chuu2 quota of this message right away, so I won't I'd make one of those huge callout posts, but there's too many people to talk about, so I won't. Instead, I'll do like zaka - if you'd like to hear my honest opinion of you, throw me a PM and I'll give you that. Lesse... I guess I could also do an AMA. Hm. It's not like I did enough of those already, and it is a celebration of sorts. Feel free to ask me anything, and I'll do my best to answer it. I was going to write a fuwa history of sorts... But my memory of 3 years ago isn't too good and things would feel really fragmented if I started at any other point. Instead of offering quality content, I'll just celebrate. Oh, hey. I didn't have to use my chuu2 quota at the end <3 Aight! Ask me anything if you'd like, post me some waifus as a present or spam shitty memes. 4k~7 points -

You are wrong...very wrong, yes there is a lot of sick shit going on in this vn(rape, torture, etc) but it's not just a "rape game" there is much more than that, specially with the plot, @Tyrosyn probably can explain it much better than I do (maybe if he doesn't feel like writing a whole lot I can just copy his explanation, I will ask him)2 points

Info on Natsu no Kusari (Clockup)
SaintOfVoid and one other reacted to XReaper for a topic
rather unlikely, since the staff of theirs views it as nothing but an arkward nukige, btw partly trashtalked the title itself. edit: guess people who are reading natsu no kusari only for the porn are equivalent to those going for kawarazaki-ke2´s netorare. rip world, where have we gone wrong.... edit2: them picking up natsu no kusari would require having some balls since it´s a more realistic take on the matter, which i cant see happening as things stand for now - call me a pessimistic piece of crap, i know i know... but in a way it´s abit comparable to yabai!, a title i can´t see them doing either. potential social outcries are more easy to handle/avoid when sticking to fantasy, or settings that are strongly giving off a fictional vibe than their opposites, regrettably so. doesnt help that some readers seemingly can´t comprehend such matter, or refuse doing so by default.2 points -

Digital v Physical Manga
Dergonu and one other reacted to Polycentric for a topic
Of course the benefits of digital manga are accessibility, but the feel of actually having a book and flipping pages is priceless. I used to not be able to stand reading books on some sort of digital device (I've gotten over it now), but having an actual physical book is infinitely better. Everything seems less flat, maybe partly because the physical book pages literally aren't flat. Idk, it's probably just something weird, but I find having an actual physical book is so much nicer than reading on a digital device.2 points -

Oh look, another one I didn't expect this to take so long (almost a year), but I guess I'm just not as much of a shitposter as I thought I was I can't say that I have always agreed with the consensus of this community (if there ever was one) or that I haven't had my fair share of bitter (or indeed salty) aftertastes from some people's posts. And while I can't guarantee that my ever-changing interests won't steer me away from it anytime soon, I have experienced (and learned) some great things, and met some truly awesome people. I have, for example, learned that arguments are flexible and arbitrary things, and that I do not need to hate myself when someone uses them to prove something I emotionally disagree with. And that's not even talking about some of the things I've learned from vns. TL;DR I love you. Yes, you, procrastinating weeaboo, sitting behind your keyboard. You deserve to be happy. Also, something something ask me anything (ANYTHING, I DARE YOU) something something don't really want to do shoutouts something something don't like to exclude anyone Have a nightstand that I made. Reading Danganronpa and it's wonderful. It can be pretty morbid, and the tone and sense of humor make it play right in to my tastes in comedy. The characters and general presentation are really stylized and quirky and generally a lot of fun. I also like trying to guess how each of the murders were carried out~ This'll definitely meet my monthly body-count quota too; I'm so happy because I needed something darker. I do agree with @Lucius and @Vorathiel on the rhythm gameplay though, it's really tiring. However, I like the courtroom debates a lot, it's like Phoenix Wright but with more dead kids and timed challenges. I guess my most major complaint is with the UI, of all things. No instant text speed makes me sad. I read incredibly quickly, so that was really hard to adapt to and even now I can't say I'm happy about it at all.1 point
-
I'm not really at my PC this week, so can't write longer walls of text at the moment. I don't mind you copying anything if you think it benefits this discussion. I just wanted to chime in to say that Natsu no Kusari was by far the best eroge I have read in years, easily in my all time Top 3. Also, everything @XReaper said is true. I also don't see Mangagamer licensing this game. Interestingly, Natsu no Kusari has neither a cliched Stockholm plot, nor an protagonist doubting himself. It's far from being your typical rapist escapism story. What makes this game so great is that it's more realistic and down to earth compared with similar games of this genre.1 point

Where Can I get people to translate Visual Novels?
Nandemonai reacted to Dergonu for a topic
Fan translations are already in a bit of a legal grey zone, but paying someone to produce a fan-translation is illegal. Don't do that. Speaking as a fan translator, we tend to pick the projects we want to TL first, not the projects we know other people want. Being motivated is extremely important when it comes to fan TLs. Without motivation, even translating a handful of lines can feel like a chore. Because of this, most of us don't really take requests. Translating takes a long time- you will be "stuck" with one project for months, sometimes much longer if the project is big, and so if you are doing it just because one person asked for it, you probably won't feel that motivated. I get your reasoning, but you really won't be able to just ask someone to TL something for you. That's not really how it works. You are better of using your money to purchase the Japanese game, and playing it next to the English one with a machine translator or something of the sort, to at least see the original scenes in some way. It won't give you an incredible result, but it's better than nothing.1 point -

I think what @Nier meant is that a game being licensed by MangaGamer doesn't immediately mean all of the company's games are legally bound to MangaGamer. Usually what happens is a company purchases the rights to a single title, which means if they want another title, they need to get the rights to it, and so on and so forth. Of course, there's also the type of deal where a company can form a partnership with a localization company and use them exclusively, but we never know if this is the case or not, so we can't just assume every future Clock Up game is bound to MangaGamer. The SonoHana fan TLs were taken down either because MangaGamer contacted the group or the group themselves wanted to take them down in hopes of encouraging a possible localization. But if they weren't contacted by MangaGamer, they had no legal obligation to take down the patches.1 point

It is, but in a different way. You are correct that Maggot Baits is plot based, with it's plot aided by lots of H, but the H in Euphoria can be tame in comparison to Maggot Baits. (Light, general content spoilers for Maggot Baits.) As for Natsu no Kusari, keep in mind that Mangagamer has the rights to Clock up games, and they are already TLing Maggot Baits, a very dark VN from them. Although nothing is set in stone, a TL for Natsu no Kusari could definitely happen down the line. But, it is very unlikely that fans will choose to pick it up, as the license belongs to Mangagamer. So, it really does come down to Mangagamer in the end, unless a daring fan chooses to risk the possible backlash from the community, as well as an unlikely legal response from Mangagamer / Clock up.1 point

if you didnt enjoy the sexual content you're not gonna enjoy this. while a huge chunk in euphoria isnt related to the sexual content this is. The plot revolves around the sexual stuff and basically sets you into the mind of a rapist1 point
-
I mean, if you didn't enjoy the sexual content in Euphoria, then I'm not sure if you'll enjoy this game that's literally about keeping a girl as your sexual slave against her will and raping her all the time. Unlike Euphoria, there really isn't a grand plot here, it's just a rape game. Albeit a high quality rape game, but still a rape game.1 point

Reverse engineering visual novels: tackling the script
Infernoplex reacted to mnakamura for a topic
Thanks for your appreciation It's really very heart-warming to know that someone (besides me) finds that stuff interesting Hmm, and I thought that I'm referring only to the most basic stuff in these articles. What do you need to know to understand them? very basic stuff about how computers work - i.e. files, hex numbers, bits-bytes, integers, characters - I guess most of the people nowadays learn that in mid school / high school the rough idea of string encoding - i.e. that "string" is a sequence of characters, and you need know somehow where the string ends - for that you either store a string's length somewhere, or declare that a string needs some "terminator" character basic knowledge of any modern object-oriented programming language (from those supported by Kaitai Struct) I supposed that basically anyone who spent like a weekend trying to pick up any progamming language (i.e. Ruby, Python, JavaScript, etc) would be ok with reading my tutorials. Can you elaborate more on what exactly is missing and what's hard to read/understand? Even if it's that "basic" stuff I've mentioned above - maybe it would be a good idea to write some quickie explaining it all in one place? Well, of course I do, but as you might have noticed, I'm kind of really opposing the idea. There's a whole world of reverse engineering that one can learn and hone their skills for the whole life There are several pretty distinct branches: analysis of execution (that usually As for books, I could really recommend https://beginners.re/ - it's a little slow-paced at some topics, but good nevertheless.1 point -

The English TL requirement does make the list a bit shorter... Well, first of all there is the SonoHana series, (games 1-10 are TLed, as well as another on the way from Mangagamer.) Then there is Lilium x Triangle and Sugar's Delight. Lastly, you can also check out the Raidy series. These are a bit unique, as they are dungeon crawler games, but they are quite nukige-like, with lots of juicy H content- you just have to fight for your porn through solving mazes and shit. (Go for Raidy III for the best content, 1-2 are quite old and the amount of content you get for your money isn't the best.) You also have Sakura Dungeon, which is a slightly lower quality dungeon crawler. Also have to mention Atom Grrrl!! and Sacrament of the Zodiac. These aren't really pure nukige, but they are shorter titles with several H-scenes. Hopefully this list has some games you haven't played yet.1 point

To be quite honest, I haven't and don't plan to do an in-depth comparison of the Japanese text from the original, the steam release and the vita port. If you've seen their two failed Kickstarts you should know, NextNinja is kinda sketchy. So i wouldn't be surprised if they stole parts of the Vita version / were heavily 'inspired' by it. Fact however is, they didn't add the new scenes or audio from the vita version to fill the gaps the cutting of the sex scenes left. Like you said the story is untouched and ChuSinGura being a story-rich game, it can probably be enjoyed as is. Nonetheless as far as an all-ages version goes, the vita version would be far superior with smoother transitions, whereas the Steam version is done rather lazily. I haven't played or even touched the "butchered" version of IMHHW, so I am not familiar with. But as Toranth already mentioned the story of ChuSinGura has been left intact. Personally I would never play a "cut" game unless I have played the complete game first. But I doubt you speak Japanese, so that might not be an option, unless someone releases a fantranslation/restauration patch. As the full game has only been released for a few days i would suggest waiting a few weeks or months to see if someone intends to do a patch. If you just want to enjoy the story, the cut perverted scenes with boobs showing etc might not be necessary. The important thing about sex scenes is giving yourself to your partner, emotional borders being broken down, the characters getting closer and so on. So in my opinion just cutting those scenes leaves a gap in the progression of the relationship. You should at least know sex happened. Another option would be to play the original and the steam version side by side, so you don't miss out on the sex scenes. If you put both of them on auto with one muted and stop the steam version once a sex scene comes up that shouldn't be a problem. (understanding sex scenes is possible even with very limited knowledge of Japanese) If you want to know wether you should buy the game on steam. Go ahead, it's on sale atm and I have dozens of games on steam I will never play...1 point

Finished ef. It was pretty great, but had major pacing issues. The first tale was nothing more than "alright", but the latter tale was absolutely fantastic; all of the plotlines were much better imo. The art was absolutely ridiculous (more CG than sprite on background, or at least it felt like it), and the ending cut scene was especially gorgeous. The VN got to be very emotional towards the end, and one could easily start crying while reading it. In a lot of its aspects, I felt that it was comparable to Clannad, but was much more mature as a whole; The plot twists towards the end could be a bit hard to buy at times, but the foreshadowing was good and nothing really took me out of it too much. Some of the characters in the first tale were subpar (and there's a special place in hell for love triangle plotlines), but the latter tale made up for it by a long shot.1 point -
So I've finally completed G-senjou no Maou at long last. Now, this VN isn't technically that long compared to the likes of Grisaia no Kajitsu, but for some reason, it felt like it's a longer reading experience than Grisaia, probably because Grisaia was more engaging with its jokes and banter for me, making me forget about time itself as it slips by. Due to this reason, I realized just how long it has been since I last completed a lengthy VN. The last lengthy VN I completed was Grisaia, and that was about 1-2 years ago, so there is a sense of fulfillment from this completion. I still have Umineko Chiru (just about to start chapter 6) and euphoria (finished two routes, including Nemu's first route) to go, so I'm probably not gonna complete another VN for a while. Now, about G-senjou... Since it's one of those 'highly acclaimed' VNs which many people wowed over the epilogue, talking about how amazing it was, it begs the question whenever I finish reading one of these, "Just how perfect was it? Were there any flaws that prevent me from giving it a full 10/10?" It's an inevitable conclusion I would always come to, and I hate to be that one guy who always has to nitpick something everybody else loves, but here it is: I don't think G-senjou is a masterpiece, period. I feel that it's definitely one of the most well-written VNs of all time (or at least, of the handful of VNs I've read), and if adapted into an anime, it might be able to compete against the likes of Fate/Zero and similar series. Its characters can be realistic, its drama fairly relatable, and it isn't exactly like your typical story of a hero defeating the evil demon, treading towards more interesting and unpredictable territories. That being said... (here comes the 'but')... The epilogue itself felt just a little picturesque. I'm quite a cynic myself, and I don't believe any person on this planet can be perfect or a saint, even Mahatma Gandhi himself. I believe every man is flawed, and the way fiction likes to paint the hero as this self-sacrificing individual who saves the damsel in distress by giving up his own well-being, I just don't buy that. It's stupid, and I'd be incredibly turned off by that. It reminds me of a recent video made by the YouTube sensation, LeafyIsHere, where he mocks a Korean music video featuring KISS. The song was "Because I'm a Girl", and it features this guy who gave his own eyes to this girl he loves whom he indirectly blinded in an accident. Leafy's remarks were mostly satirical, claiming that if this is real life, he would never trade off his ability to see for a girl, and on some level, I agree with the sentiment. Now, here's a disclaimer, I've never fell in love before aside from silly crushes at school, so maybe love could indeed drive a person to do such stupid things in real life, I don't know. But from a realist's point of view, it's stupid, and rather unrelatable. "Very storybook-like" is a good description for the epilogue. Speaking of the 'gritty twists' in the story, there's the other problem: too many f***ing twists. A while back, there was a post criticizing Umineko for this problem, on how Umineko keeps on surprising the audience with, "But wait, there's more!" Well, there you have it, G-senjou suffers from the same problem. Just when you think an arc is over, the element of shock factor bounces the story back into unrealistic tension because of a Gary-Stu villain whose plan goes perfectly. Like, what is this guy, The Joker? Nobody's plan goes this perfectly, period. So yes, the story still suffers from deus ex machina and certain unrealistic moments that just boggle the mind, finished off with your sunset-sprinkled storybook ending. Like, there is literally a freaking sunset at the ending! What the actual f***. But in all honesty, I don't hate the story, even if I might sound like it. I stand by what I said earlier when I said that this was one of the most well-written VNs I've read so far, but I feel that I just had to bring up the little peeves and gripes I have to be satisfied with myself. Oh yes, something I forgot to mention - the other non-main heroines. They never did get a finality to their character arcs in the true end, which is kinda realistic and that's good, but it also makes it a bit lackluster in hindsight. I know I complained about the storybook ending of Haru, but I was kinda hoping for some closure if this is indeed the true end of the story, that's all. In hindsight, I probably should've posted this to "Unpopular VN Opinions" instead. Oh well. *braces myself for the hate-camp*1 point
