Jesus Christ, this whole topic makes me cringe. I'm amused and bewildered people nowadays have nothing better to do than sit on the internet for hours and provoke various people and groups while constantly circlejerking, whilst there's almost nothing to gain and even less of an effect on their lives. Therefore, why care so much? You want to change how things work? Start a petition. Organize to fight against common misconceptions. Form your own distributing company and affect the world. Make good games. Shittalking and flamewars on the internet accomplish literally NOTHING. Goddamn. I never thought I'll live to that day, when I will see so much drama in visual novel and eroge industries. It's almost amusing.4 points

... 0.0 That's EASY! Now I just need to sit back and wait for the change to happen :33 points -
I mean, a forum thread is read by more people than those who post in it. There's some value in making the range of opinion displayed a bit broader, though a decent few people seem intent to only focus on the extremes when judging anything (rip). Also, make no mistake - there's personal entertainment value for me in it too3 points

Uuuuh, something something, lots of snarky commentaries, keep it civil or the thread might be locked and in the worst case bans may happen and whatnot. I don't think Sekai as a company is particularly scummy or particularly good. They're aight. I do feel compelled to defend them most of the time, but largely because a bunch of people who shit on them give this air of being in a holy crusade for the sake of the good eroge population and that pisses me off to no end. Almost as much as the "censorship, muh +18 content" and the "righteous piracy" crowd (who I firmly believe should burn to death. Slowly). But that's a topic for another day, so I won't mention it~3 points

I read that someone on twitter has recommended to ChuableSoft to make a deal with MG. Originally they considered partnership with SP. But people persuaded them clayming SP is the devil seed. Turns out, whining can make a difference.3 points

First thing that anyone thinks when they see a VN written by Choco Chip is 'nukige!!!'. That isn't precisely correct. I've played exactly three games by this guy that impressed me, though that was over four years ago. Those three games were Prima Stella, Sarasara, and Sakura Iro Quartet. Randomly, I decided to pick Prima Stella back up, and I relived my ancient experiences with it, gaining new impressions relative to what I've experienced since. First, my impressions are universally positive about this game. For those of you who feel negative about that kind of thing, there is sex in the common route (at least one scene for each heroine), but the situations in which they happen aren't too unrealistic as VN situations go, lol. One of the reasons that Choco Chip's games almost always get put down as nukige is because of his fondness for sexuality in the common route... and that impression isn't entirely wrong. Most of his VNs really are nukige, through and through. His VNs are from an era where it wasn't a 'sin' for a nukige to have as solid a plot as your standard VN (as it has pretty much become now, save for rapegames). Prima Stella starts with the protagonist, Kousuke, an aspiring swimmer, throwing himself in front of a car to save a girl and little boy without regard for his own safety. He spends two months in a coma, and when he wakes up, his body is withered and he is barely able to raise his arms. Well, he manages to finish his basic rehabilitation (enough to live a normal life), but he quickly realizes that getting back in top form is going to be difficult at best, impossible at worst, especially at a school with no indoor pool. It is at this point that he gets invited to attend school at a famous rich girls' academy, in order to take advantage of the facilities there. Given the chance, he takes it, and it is there he meets the girl he saved, Shizuka. This is all given away in the summary, so I'm not really spoiling anything, lol. Anyway, the common route of the VN focuses on his and the heroines' trials and tribulations, as they all fall in love with him, with legitimate cause (yes, this is the biggest difference between your run of the mill charage, moege, or nukige... there are legitimate reasons for the relationships to form). Other than that, story-wise there is nothing revolutionary. The actual heroine paths are as solid as the common route (which is fairly high quality), and the heroines themselves are quite attractive as people. One of the things that most charage made in the last few years lack is dealing with heroines deep psychological problems and troubles, and one of the things I liked about this VN was that such troubles do pop up in the story. Shizuka and Tomoe in particular get a huge dose of this kind of thing, and having the protagonist unwind their twisted hearts is one of the more pleasurable experiences of the VN. Edit: A few words about the difference in how I felt about this game at the time and how I feel now. Understand, having played numerous games of the type since my original playthrough, my viewpoint on slice-of-life VNs has changed immensely. The first time I played it through, I didn't have the 'eyes' to really see the loving detail that Choco Chip put into this VN... and I didn't have the right mindset to appreciate this type of VN to the fullest (thus my revised vote on vndb). One thing that is lacking in today's VNs is the characters' tribulations. For better or worse, heroines don't have any major issues, protagonists remain the same through the entire VN, and there is no central story to motivate the relationships' growth. Of course, there are exceptions... but VNs like this one, where the tribulations of the characters go beyond the minor 'drama' that is common in most VNs have gotten rarer and rarer over the last half-decade.2 points

The link says that they did "SNS Administration", which means they handled the social media (to the point where the "platform" is Twitter and Facebook), not the localization. In contrast, if you look at the games they did localize, like Demon's Souls or something, the service is clearly listed as "Localization" (and the platform is listed as the one the game came out on, PS3). So in this case, I'm not certain the annoyance is valid unless there's a separate job listed for the localization in the portfolio. If you wanna look at the games they did localize and speculate, though, be my guest. No idea how good Demon's Soul's localization was, for example.1 point

I knew about the short form here too. But since I'd read some fanfiction in the past that had the characters with the name of Ushi and Eta (One of them was some kind of OC), and the fanfic was quite good at that so I decided to just called that by Ushieta if you ask my reason here (Some sort of reminder). It's just like I called the first part of the name of VN here, only shortened one. Well, just want to saying it here.1 point -

True, I just like keeping the facts as straight as possible - it's relevant if you feel like throwing the blame for tardiness at the right people, though. A lot of strange things in localization can be attributed to having to work with Japanese companies, though you could argue that negotiating with jp companies beyond just licensing is also a skill to measure a loc company by.1 point -

SP being slow is another myth. Translation speed varies greatly from game to game, MG and SP are more or less equa all things considered. Some titles are translated very fast (Clannad, IYLMTSS), some very slow (DC III, Himawari, WEE). The slowpoke of VN loc. industry is definitely JAST USA.1 point -
I did buy Nekopara 1 CE so I was looking to also buy Nekpara 2 CE, which they originally told me I could do so on this site in the future. Of course I am not happy. I am ok with others opinions on the matter, but not when someone tells me to shut up and I have no right to state my opinion. All the other comments I am fine with as long as people do not personally attack each other. I would buy this from the circle's site if someone could tell me a good proxy to use.1 point

Has whining about anything on the internet ever changed anything? Telling the internet to stop whining is like telling Donald Trump to stop being crazy or Hillary to stop hanging out with bankers, technically they should but in doing so they would probably stop existing. To flip it around I could easily ask, what has insistent whining about people whining about SP ever done?1 point -
Denpsoft refuses to sell hard copies online now?
Fred the Barber reacted to Chuee for a topic
Well, yeah, you have a right to complain. That doesn't mean your words are justified. Has any of the insistent whining against SP ever changed anything /shrug There are more, just that none of them feel like wasting their time doing stuff like this anymore because it's a pointless endeavor. Well, sure I could criticize them for things, but 90% of the things people criticize them for are completely asinine things that would never generate any controversy had it happened from JAST or MG. At this point the people that hate them only specifically look for reasons to hate them more instead of trying to think things through rationally.1 point -

I mean, the problem isn't your disappointment. The problem is your assertion that they flipped you the bird and had a lame excuse, both of which are probably false. You are aware that MG just plain lost their payment processor earlier this year right? Shuffle! is coming to Steam!
john 'mr. customer' smith reacted to trickzzter for a topic
As it was already stated by MangaGamer, Steam sells much more copies than MangaGamer website. Moreover it helps them to sell more copies directly from their website. Steam has over 150 million active users. Some of them will buy the game, even if they aren't fans of VNs. Some of them will buy the game just because they liked the anime adaptation. Some of them will buy it just because it's an "anime game". And don't forget about the core Steam VN fan base, it's grown pretty big in the past few years. Just look at these numbers: Sekai Project's Group (8,889 members) Fans of visual novels (3,466 members) Visual Novel Fans (2,262 members) Visual Novels (2,211 members) And I'm one of them. I haven't bought any game directly from MangaGamer website, but I have bought ALL of their Steam releases.1 point -
I tweeted them, asking if an 18+ patch would be possible, but their reply was that the all-ages version has no H-scenes to begin with. I don't think they understood the question. A Different Kind of VN Company - Your Feedback Wanted
Funyarinpa reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
While 2 different translations is a good idea, I don’t see it happening. Because to do this properly you’ll need to translate the game twice. It isn’t a case of the first run being ‘translating literal’ then a quick mop up to make it ‘localised’, you’d need multiple runs to make the literal section decent and multiple runs to make the localised section decent. It would take a boatload of time, unless the game you’re translating is quite short. Furthermore, if your heart isn’t in one of those philosophies, then inevitably one of those translations will come out substandard. That is, if you’re only localising to appease the fanbase and you actually don’t like translations this way, this will come across in your work and it will be a substandard product. I’m all for multiple translations for each game, but IMO it would have to be done by multiple translators. I suspect quality would suffer if a single translation group did both versions.1 point -
visual novels you consider masterpieces
Nourunin165 reacted to Asonn for a topic
Natsukuru and Majikoi series. Natsukuru for the intriguing story which has some plot holes though, so is it really a masterpiece? No but it's the best VN I read until now. Majikoi is just the complete package that does everything just right, the comedy, action and characters blend really well in the universe of majikoi, it's a solid read from beginning till the end.1 point -
