So I was browsing YouTube and happened to stumble onto a guy who fed a recurring neural network (LSTM type) some cute VN girl noises. The girl in question is Hinata from Pure Pure. Needless to say the results are interesting... It's rather interesting to see just what a machine picks up from that, and damn creepy. The amount of iteration on the left signifies how often the network has gone over the 10 minute sample data and is also a good measure of how much it has learned. Also bonus points if you turn on CC and watch a machine try to understand what another machine is trying to say.4 points

Romance Between Shino and Keiji Review
masster_auron reacted to littleshogun for a blog entry
Visual Novel Translation Status (01/28/2017) First of all, before I state my review for this week VNTS let me said Happy Chinese New Year for anyone else who celebrate that (Actually me too). And for the title here, let's just settle for simple title this week in which the meaning should be very obvious. It's from Corona Blossom, and it's depicted the romance between Shino and her childhood friend Keiji (Who is also MC in Corona Blossom) which expressed through kissing. As for Corona Blossom itself, since it was promoted as trilogy perhaps it's the last chapter so hopefully we could get the full story from the VN itself. The release should be good for anyone else who like Corona Blossom, and that's all that I could said for now in regard of Corona Blossom. This week we also get Seinarukana Steam release, in which JAST did another of their new pattern ie release without the announcement beforehand (Announced the exact date). Oh well, guess they had the reason for that. And in regard of Seinarukana Steam version, I'm quite interested with the extra missions which said was carried from PSP version according to Sanahtlig. Other than extra mission, there's replacement scene for H-Scenes in which I'm sure still had some degree of intimate between the heroines of said route and our MC Nozomu (Eiyuu Senki was had same change if I remember correctly). Right now I'm not interested with Steam version as I'd already content with original version there, but it may change in the future. Other than those two release which admittedly were quite interesting, there's actually another release from Winged Cloud. Yes this time Winged Cloud was release another Sakura games and this time apparently they tried to portray the life of secret agent and they named the game Sakura Agent. Oh, and by the way there's already Steam release for this game. Get it if you interested, although maybe not much user here interested with that though. That's all for the releases for this week, and to be honest the releases not as big as Da Capo 3 from last week. But in exchange of that, actually there's so many juicy updates compared to last week especially from Mangagamer in which they finally give the update after one month they didn't give the update (Or perhaps one year seeing that the last time Mangagamer gave the update was at 2016 lol). Let's see what usual update that we had for this week here, but first let me stated that after finished both of Libra side stories translation right now they begin the editing according to their update (For recall, they already finished all of the translation process for the main games). While back at last week I said that Tenshin Ranman could be completed as long as they doing their usual pace, unfortunately this week Sekai didn't had their usual pace and as the result the Tenshin Ranman progress still stuck at 99.25% instead of completed (Although maybe there's some behind screen work like editing or QC though). Chrono Clock progress was updated slightly with almost touching 90% mark translated (89.67% translated), and they'll delivered the update at January end here (I'll be looking forward to the update then). Other than Chrono Clock, there's Bokukotsu in which they translated 27.25% of the script. That's all for Sekai, and it's quite lacking if we looking at update number here compared to last weeks but perhaps there will be time when Sekai will had many usual updates again. For fan translation, the updates here were good enough enough so I'm quite satisfied for now. For Majokoi, this week they resumed the translation work after one week holiday in which the progress was touching 70% mark (70.5% translated) and 61.3% edited. Quite good progress if I may say here, especially from the editing front there. For more additional information, the editing for two routes (Alice and Rei) were finished and they started to translating Mii's route. Oh, and they almost finished translating the ending. That's all for Majokoi progress, and there's also update from Loverable in which they finally managed to reach halfway mark translated (50.09% translated. Congratulations again there). For more additional progress beside translation, right now it was at 16.92% TLC-ed, 15.9% edited, and 15.5% QC-ed. Also there's additional information from Loverable, in which Tsugumi route was finished for the translation. That's all for fan translation segment. Mangagamer Finally after one month there's no update, this week Mangagamer deliver bunch of juicy updates along with one good announcements and several secret projects announcements as well. Let's see what I could gather from the update there. For secret projects, well I still couldn't speculate here of course although it could be quite fun though to speculate imo. They'd announce that back at December 10th or to be exact after Himawari release that they had five secret projects there, and turn out there's six secret projects instead of five. For the progress, 1st secret project was 71% translated and 44% edited, 2nd secret project was at 33% translated, 3rd secret project was at 10% translated and 9% edited, 4th secret project was at 51% translated and 13% edited, 5th secret project was at 93% translated and 23% edited, and the last secret project was already complete for both of translation and editing. While I said that I couldn't speculate much here, I think the 6th project will be released in near future seeing that the progress was already complete (Only testing left). That's all for the secret project there, which I will take my eyes on those projects. Other than secret projects, once again Mangagamer also offer some juicy updates here. For the updates, this week we had Hapymaher at 64% translated and 49% edited (Perhaps they face the same problem as Sekai right now in regard of text display), Sorcery Joker was at 72% translated and 54% edited, Kuroinu was finishing beta testing, Boukaku was 64% translated and 62% edited (Quite major jump there), Naked Butler was at 35% retranslated, and Evangile W was at 95% translated (Almost finished) and 80% edited. Oh, and for more updates both of Suki Suki and Dal Segno were already preparing for the testing, which mean if all going smoothly it'll be released at this year looking from past experiences (At the very least). That's all for the updates. For last news, Mangagamer announced that there will be another VN Release at February. It was Shadow of Pygmalion which announced back at Otakon 2015 and they said that it'll be released at February 24th. Apparently they'll had yuri tone and this is also chuunige, but perhaps it'll be like Aoishiro (Or Akai Ito) if we want to compare past released there (Female MC, had actions, and had heroines instead of heroes). The graphic to be honest was take my interest the moment it was announced. Also apparently Mangagamer managed to made several modification to the engine (More on that later). That's all that I could said in regard of Pygmalion for now. That's all for this week VNTS Review, and see you next week. PS - Just realize that there's update from HatsuKoi back at 28th (It's 31st right now), but late is better than never though. The updates were common route was passing three quarter translated (76.65% translated), and overall progress was at 14.34% translated. Oh, they planned to translate Midori's route first and right now it's been in the translating process. If some of reader here want to follow the progress, look at their Twitter here.1 point -
Yuri Chuunige Pygmalion Released
Vorathiel reacted to littleshogun for a topic
Not quite good thread title to be honest here, but right now there's good news from Mangagamer in regard of Pygmalion, namely that they finally ready for release at February 24th according to the blogpost (Which is 27 days from today). And this time instead of male protagonist, we will had female protagonist which naturally made it looks like this is some sort of yuri VN now that majority of the cast were still female instead of male. As for this VN, it was from propeller which quite famous for chuunige and apparently this time they attempt to made some sort of yuri chuunige. The graphic for this VN was the one that take my interest the most when Mangagamer announced this alongside Tokyo Babel (I could rant about this here, but better not). I think that's all that I could write for now and I'll still interested with this even though I knew that this VN maybe not for everyone, especially Clephas. I'll write about the info and other review later.1 point -
Venus Blood: Ragnarok
BookwormOtaku reacted to Clephas for a blog entry
Yes, you were waiting for it, all you tentacle-loving freaks... this is the newest game in the Venus Blood series, as full of tentacles and sex-training as any of the others... I come to you having finished the Law route and after being forced to go back a chapter in order to get to the Chaos route on my second playthrough (apparently you absolutely have to start the 'goddess insanity' chapter, by failing to complete one of the monster-hunting side-quests). The gameplay will be familiar to anyone who played Hypno, though there are differences introduced in the unit-creation screen, just as in all the others in the series (every game puts its own twist on this aspect). It is the sequel to Frontier, occurring some three hundred years later, and it is based off of a partial 'fallen goddess but still on Law Route' path. The biggest difference in the gameplay from previous entries is the introduction of a 'research' system where you basically have to open each step in a tree to get access to other units. You expend medallions to get particular units on each 'block' that you've opened up, and what medallions are available to you determine what units you can access and how much of each tree you can complete (it is impossible to get access to all medallion types and units in the first or even the second playthrough due to difficulty and route issues). While this might not sound that different in fact, it was a great difference visually, making access to the various monster types more obvious than in previous entries. The system of 'leveling up resources' is back from Hypno, allowing you to use research to level up your auto-healing, auto-experience gaining, and automatic resource allowance (at the end of each turn) independent from what places you've captured. I advise anyone planning to do multiple playthroughs to get everything as high as possible (focus on healing over experience and all the other resources before gold, since gold is the most plentiful resource). Story-wise... it is standard Venus Blood. You come, you conquer, and you decide whether to make the goddesses love you normally or just drive them crazy through sex training. The actual basic plot is inferior to both Frontier and Hypno, though it it is more 'stable' in that it doesn't trip up in the last chapters like in the previous games. Unfortunately, this game suffers somewhat from being a direct and obvious sequel, as the shadows and persons of characters from the previous game pop up everywhere, distracting you from the protagonist's story. I need to say something about the Venus Blood games here... it really is a shame that this company doesn't go 'legit' and start making non-ero games. The complexity of the skill system and the way you can make levels almost irrelevant through simply combining the right units in the same squad is incredibly rewarding. This is actually only the second game in the series where I actually explored this aspect of the game in-depth, but I was seriously impressed with the degree to which you can customize your army, creating the ultimate force. In fact, it wouldn't be far from the truth to say the outcome of all battles is entirely determined by the way you design your squads. Sanah is something of a hard-ass when it comes for this game, always beginning on Hard mode... but I honestly don't recommend that for newcomers to the series. For one thing, the basic endgame difficulty level is pretty high even on normal difficulty, and playing hard mode on the first playthrough has certain annoyances like running short of resources at key points. Anyway, for gameplay, this, like most of the Venus Blood games, is fairly enjoyable. As a story? Lots of potential here, some really interesting points, but in retrospect the story pales somewhat in comparison to previous entries in the series as a whole, despite exceeding most previous games when it comes to the endgame story.1 point -

In preparation for Da Capo III I decided to finally finish Da Capo II. Right now I believe I am missing Minatsu's, Otome's, Yume's and Sakura's routes, so I started with Minatsu. Additionally, I don't remember finishing Nanaka's route, but I do remember at least starting it... Minatsu Route Thoughts: In other news, Sawase Maya. I love the class president's voice actress -- that should be made clear. Unfortunately, I don't believe she should have been cast as the class president. She's very good at making her characters sound troubled, mad (in a comedic sense), and just generally humorous. Unfortunately, the only facet of the president I feel she can accurately represent is her exasperation. Her decisiveness and assertiveness are immediately thrown out of the window by her... sort of goofy voice. Not necessarily from being badly voice acted, mind you, but from the fact I know her other roles. Worse still, I've seen her in other roles. Other more serious roles, where she seemed to manage decently. In short, I'd go so far as to claim that whoever's responsible for directing the way she voices her character is at fault.1 point -

I didn't hate DC1, but I did find it really boring, with a few bad routes. DC2 was miles better. It still had its issues, like that goddamn Koko route, but still, the improvements over the first game were numerous. Better art, more interesting characters (although some people were absolutely obsessed over Kotori in DC1, I wasn't), funnier writing overall, better drama, an insane amount of content where the common route itself branches at multiple points (there is very little repeated content on successive playthroughs), and the list of improvements go on. That said, DC2 still wasn't actually great. The fact that it improved so much over DC1 and was still somewhere between decent and good kinda shows how mediocre 1 was. DC1 was kind of a joke in how amateurish and sloppy it felt. DC2 is worth playing only to see how they take the same concepts and make a real VN out of them. And apparently DC3 is quite a bit better than 2? To be honest, the intro sequence I played was a bit of a bore and I don't particularly like any of the characters, hopefully it gets better as Kyrt says.1 point

As a Law student, and with the facts you've mentioned above, the "troll" in question is liable for more than just assault. If a smart lawyer handles the plaintiff's case, he could also be charged with psychological harm, which is a touchy area of the law. But minus the surety of his liability, this action, along many others soon to come, may force the internet to have to adhere to a central authority in the near future. Even though the internet isn't as free as we think (there are eyes everywhere), those watcher thrive in the shadow. Continued acts of open violence would grant governments (i'm assuming through the U.N) to create a treaty that allows extensive control over the internet and it's resources. If more an more people answer the question of "Is the internet a dangerous place that needs to be policed?" with a "yes." our freedoms with it, superficial or not, disappear in one go. It's sad that most of those who do things like this never stop to think about it. Jut use their basic logical processing to realize the bigger picture...1 point

Before I announce the VN of the Month, I'm going to go ahead and apologize to those who wanted me to play Honoguraki... to be blunt, I don't have the energy for it. Ragnarok sucked me dry, and I need to get away from undead and demons for a while. Moreover, I hate zombies in the first place (so many reasons), so I'd be unlikely to give a pleasant review or comment anyway. Now... it is kind of startling how so many great games got packed into a single month. December 2016 was a monster month for story-focused VNs, with a relative dearth of charage/moege (with only two released). I played as much as I could, but after six games, including the monster known as Venus Blood Ragnarok, I feel drained and tired. The main reason I don't deny the existence of charage utterly (other than the occasional shining diamond I find in the piles of icarabu shit) is because even I need a break from bloodshed and darkness sometimes. There were three releases that had the potential to become VN of the Month this time around... Akiyume Kukuru Ryuukishi Bloody Saga Ou no Mimi ni wa Todokanai! Now, to be blunt, Ou no Mimi would be my first choice. Why? Because, without the art bigots interfering, it is the most solid of those three candidates by several degrees. In fact, if this were six years ago, all things equal (including art), I would without hesitation have named it VN of the Month. While AXL doesn't escape its own unique formula, there is a reason why this company is a consistent seller despite reusing character art and music constantly. However, we come to Ryuukishi, which is only a few steps behind story-wise and has the advantage of being an immensely creative story that doesn't fall back on tropes for the most part. It also has a more modern art-style that is highly-detailed, illustrating battle scenes and some of the more shocking guro scenes in loving detail. Last of all, we have Akiyume Kukuru, which didn't fail to please as the third (and possibly final) game of Sumikko's 'Seasons' series. As usual, it provides the kind of meta-science mystery combined with violent and sexual humor that the company has become infamous for. For a certain type of reader, this VN is pure crack, though if you aren't the type it is aiming for, it will be a huge miss. So what is the conclusion? In the end it came down to Ryuukishi and Ou no Mimi. I balanced Ou no Mimi's solid, well-narrated story against Ryuukishi's more innovative approach... and in the end I chose Ryuukishi Bloody Saga as VN of the Month December 2016. While AXL's works are really 'at-home' for me, I felt that Ryuukishi will probably have a larger impact on the VN community as a whole in the long run... and they were dead even on how I enjoyed them. Now... look forward to VN of the Year 2016, which I probably won't finish considering until sometime next month. Fortunately or unfortunately, 2016 was almost as good as 2014 and 2011 for VNs...1 point
