MoeNovel saving us again
Infernoplex and one other reacted to littleshogun for a topic
Thank you Kiririri. Because of you I know that we'll got another VN that rivaled Dies Irae or Baldr Sky in term of quality. Look forward to the release. PS - Okay, did we really need MoeNovel answer to Winged Cloud Sakura franchise here?2 points -
They are separate entities. The Meikyuu + Rakuen main stories goes down a different path from all the after routes. The after routes are all continuations of the routes in Kajitsu. Basically, play them in any order you want; it doesn't make a difference, as the after routes and grand route has nothing to do with one another.2 points

Hatsukoi 1/1 English Translation Available (Discussion and Poll)
Swim Swim reacted to littleshogun for a topic
First of all, congratulations to HatsuKoi complete English patch release to Tsurezure. As for this thread, since there's still no serious discussion in regard of HatsuKoi I decide to made a thread for it (It's been a while since I made one for moege). Most of the reviews that I'd found said that MC was gotten worse at both of Runa's route and Yukino's route, so I think that should be enough heads up if you want to play HatsuKoi fully. For the reviews there's one from Aedes and there's another review from the translator himself. By the way, his (The translator) score doesn't mean that he wasn't enjoy translating HatsuKoi, in fact he said that he enjoyong translating it. As for the reviews, beware that all of them were contained spoiler to some degree. As for my opinion, while I'd see many negative in regard of HatsuKoi MC (Yuma) was quite dense (So much that tone work need to post apology video in regard of that) and it's reception was not as good as tone work later works (Hoshiori and Gin'iro Haruka), I think this was most likely because of the pressure in regard of 20th year anniversary VN for Visual Art. Another reason I said that was in regard of tone work, which at that time was still new and yet they were handed the big responsibility for that, especially when faced with the big expectations from all of the consumer who wants good VN for the anniversary edition (Besides, I think even Key which is one of the biggest brand for Visual Arts would face similar problem). It's just quite hard to write about, so I'll just leave it and say that tone works was improved in their later works by using HatsuKoi as the basis. Nevertheless, I still happy though that we finally got one of tone work VN translated, albeit a rough one. As for the production value itself, HatsuKoi here were quite interesting one if we looking at the seiyuu for the heroines and the vocal song. Since this is charage (Or moege) in the first place, of course what we should see here should be the girls instead of the story or action. There's a bit plot though, namely that Yuma trying to form Cafeteria club with him as the chairman. As for the girls, they were quite cute if I may say and once again the girls voice were quite good, also the seiyuu behind girls voice was quite well known. As for the the girls, they were: 1. Makabe Midori The student council president from Yuma's school. She was quite famous for being kind and understanding, and her speech was also quite heartwarming. Although in reality she was quite shy and she was said that she never taste of how being an ordinary girl here. Oh, and she came from rich family by the way. Her seiyuu was Isshiki Hikaru (aka Tanaka Ryouko) who voiced Sakaki Yumiko (Another rich girl) from Grisaia franchise, Narukana from Seinarukana, Neon Scalar Smilja from Gahkthun, Kurugaya Yuiko from Little Busters, Hinaori Kagome from Comyu, Kirimiya Mizuki from Yume Miru Kusuri, Hazakura Seiso from Majikoi franchise, and Kawahara Sakuya from I/O. 2. Fujikawa Runa One of Yuma childhood friend who was a year behind him. She was study very hard in order to enter Yuma's school and apparently quite energetic one. She was also secretly in love with Yuma (It's given though), and more importantly want to be seen as an adult woman. Momoi Ichigo was the one who provide voice for her, who in turn also voiced Akita Momoko from Aoishiro, Lacrille from Madou Koukaku, and Dorothy Davenport aka DD from Chrono Clock (At least there'll be no Engrish from Runa this time I assure). 3. Tsukishima Kyou One of Yuma's new classmate, and quite energetic at that. She is quite athletic as well, because she was participated in girls basketball club in the past and the ace player to boot (She quit from the club though). Nowadays, she was work at her family pizzeria (A restaurant that specialized in pizza). Her goal was to make her pizzeria the best in the world, and therefore she take her job at pizzeria very seriously. The voice for her was Natsuno Koori (aka Taguchi Hiroko) who voiced Suou Amane (Had same background in regard of basketball) from Grisaia franchise, Yarai Miu from Dracu Riot, Masamune Shizuru from Noble Works, Kagami Sumika from Muv Luv franchise, Hinata Natsumi from Sharin no Kuni, Kitsuki Riho from Koi Suru Natsu no Last Resort, and Kasugano Sora from Yosuga no Sora. 4. Tokizaki Maya Another Yuma's classmate, and unlike Kyou she was quite opposite (Kuudere). She apparently had bad reputation from skipping class a lot. She was quite famous child actress in the past, and she did quit after her last movie was flop (The reason was because according to in-game review the movie in question was too hard to understand by children). Oh, and she like to tease Yuma quite a lot. Her voice was Sakurai Harumi, who voiced Takamori Haruka at Beat Blade Haruka, Kanemoto Akari at Noble Works, Tokido Saya at Little Busters, Yayoi B. Lutwidge at Hapymaher, Kurokawa Sera at Lovely x Cation, and Lily at Himegari. 5. Morino Yukino Another Yuma's childhood friend, and at same age as Yuma. As his childhood friend, she obviously the closest to Yuma at the story beginning and Yuma's mother also quite close with Yukino. She was also quite fast befriended Kyou the moment they were met from the first time. Oh, and she appointed as vice chairman for the cafeteria committee. Her voice was Ogura Yui, who voiced Himiko from Eiyuu Senki, Inaba Yui from Flyable Heart, Yanagise Eika from Ikikoi, Wakatsuki Kagami from Subahibi, Nanase Rio from Imouto Paradise, and Maple from Nekopara. By the way, each heroines were had image song although only two of the heroines were had their individual ending song though (Runa and Maya). That's all for the heroines and review in regard of HatsuKoi. You could use this thread as discussion thread by the way. Have fun for discussing HatsuKoi here, and find out whether it's good or not by yourself.1 point -
Trying to make VNR functional again
Infernoplex reacted to MaggieROBOT for a topic
Some of you already noticed, but VNR server is down so you can't download subtitles other users uploaded nor upload your own. Messing around with VNR files, I found the file of the shared dictionary on the following path: Visual Novel Reader\Caches\Sync. I have this file containing subtitles uploaded up to november/2016. Putting it on that folder, you'll not need to connect to the server to access it. (I read the VNR license and it says it's okay to redistribute its files): http://www.mediafire.com/file/5bop10t7y0cg22s/gamedic.xml The second problem is that lots of people can't seem to add new terms to this file. But since it's a XML file, I think you can edit it with Visual Studio. I didn't test it yet, since I have limited knowledge of programming, but I'm planning to try it next week or so. But if someone more experienced want to help me, I'll be glad! And lastly, user Lefterstein and I discovered where the user subtitles (not only terms) are located and they seem to work exactly like the terms file. If one person have the full subtitle file for a game (they are separated by game), then another person download it and put it in this folder Visual Novel Reader\Caches\Subtitles\xml, it will work perfectly, not needing to download it off the server. They seem a lot harder to edit than the terms file, but I'm not experienced enough to judge. Unfortunately, this still don't resolve the problem to create new subtitles from scratch, for a game that have none. But this seems a good alternative to retrieve fan translations that aren't patched directly in the game, like Cage-Open- (https://vndb.org/v10694) or Sakuya (https://vndb.org/v13035). It's so sad that some of them are lost because of the servers. So guys, check the aforementioned folder and look which subtitles you have. Maybe we could share with other users these files so everyone can play these games without using machine translations. Any help is appreciated!1 point -
Regretfully, no. Though at least Moenovel isn't shitting up stuff with actual quality to it these days w1 point

Hatsukoi 1/1 English Translation Available (Discussion and Poll)
mitchhamilton reacted to ChaosRaven for a topic
Like machine translation for example. It wouldn't be the first time. Though the last thing I heard from another source was that the translator had originally translated the title in VNR over a year (whatever that means), and the 3 - 4 months were just porting the script to an official patch. No idea what's true though, as long as the translation is fine I don't really care. Though if he's really that good he might think about knocking on MangaGamer's or Sekai's door. They would surely have use for such a gifted translator.1 point -

One of the things I've experienced more and more in the last decade as a part of 'the generation gap' is a difference between our interpretations of the word 'inconvenience', especially when it comes to games and devices. Understand, when I say 'inconvenience', it generally means 'it doesn't have the functions I find useful'. When I talk to people who were born after the year 2000, it is almost always 'too many functions I don't know how to use/are not intuitive to me'. Perhaps the most blatant clash of the generations, at least for PC gamers like me who play games from multiple locales, is the difference between versions of Windows. A lot of the young people I encounter are perfectly willing to deal with annoying adverts and intrusive programs in exchange for the convenience of Windows 8 and 10 (and I will admit that, from the perspective of someone who likes to keep their brain as unwrinkled as possible, they can be considered more convenient *smiles dryly*). In my case, those adverts and intrusive programs eat at my RAM, my bandwidth, and record my daily activities to be sent to people I don't know. I my mind, that far outweighs any 'convenience' gained from the simplification of the system. In fact, it is that very simplification of the system (which incidentally makes it more inconvenient to purchase and play games from anyone other than Microsoft) that makes it inconvenient for people like me. Sure, we can download software that modifies certain aspects of the interface to get around these difficulties... but it becomes harder year after year. I was extremely shocked a few years back when I played Kami no Rhapsody from Eushully and saw a game that had obviously been designed by some moron who didn't understand why touch-screen functions were nothing more than an annoyance for someone without a touchscreen. The 'simplification' of the battle system made the game flat-out boring in comparison to other games I'd played by the company, and the highly-restrictive character progression that gave an illusion of freedom (I'm not exaggerating) only made things worse... because the programmer was obviously someone used to working on games with microtransactions. That isn't to say the game was horrible, but it was horrifying, in that I saw the worst aspects of mobile apps intruding on a PC experience. I don't and will never like touchscreens. They get dirty too easily, break too easily, and cost more than your standard monitor. To be frank, it is far easier to use a mouse on a PC than a touch-screen and less likely to cost you a few hundred dollars every other year. So what is the meaning of convenience to me? I am, to be frank, shockingly old-fashioned in the eyes of many because I don't even own a cell phone. I used to have one, a hand-me-down from a relative, but I disposed of it almost immediately because people were calling me and using money (unlimited texting being a bad word to cell phone companies at the time) to text me on things that could be done more efficiently by email. I also hated it being possible for people reach me when I wanted to be alone, lol. So what about a smart-phone? I honestly have trouble developing an interest in smart-phone gaming, because microtransactions offend my sense of wanting to have things 'paid for and done with'. I hate subscriptions, I hate monthly payments, and I especially hate having my personal information available to a company that sells info to others (as most cell phone companies do or want to do). I can't maintain an interest in anything that makes me pay more than once to enjoy the experience. If I spend $120 on a game and its season pass, I don't want to find out that there are microtransactions in game that nickel and dime me. I also hate that I have to distrust any game application that cost me less than forty dollars because I can't be sure half the game won't be unplayable without further piecemeal investment of money. I also hate the dead-eyed look some of the younger gamers give me when they laugh about having spent their entire paycheck on virtual items in an app they'll forget about a month later. In other words, my idea of convenience has nothing to do with what others seem to consider convenience now. My idea of convenience is playing video games on my retinas with signals from my nervous system, not playing drastically simplified games with flicks of my finger. Sorry, I rave... but I get tired of all the BS about 'convenient features' that companies use to cover up the building layers of inconvenience in the shit they try to sell me. Convenience has become such a meaningless term in recent years that it makes me want to scream.1 point

Your dream VN magazine
Caio000 reacted to InvertMouse for a topic
Even in this YouTube generation, I enjoy reading gaming magazines like GameInformer, Retro Gamer, Edge etc. Today, I just want to rave about what my dream VN magazine would be. I love old school things. Sometimes I post about stuff from ONE ~Kagayaku Kisetsu e~, Sakura Taisen and the like, so I would love to follow a VN magazine that focuses on titles from the 80s and 90s. Maybe every issue highlights one game in particular and explores behind the scenes details. The pages will be designed professionally for that quality finish. Man, the things I would do to read an issue on Ever17, ONE, Sakura Taisen, Utawarerumono, 999 (not that old but hey) and so on. I cannot start that type of series because game development takes up most of my time, and also: 1) Old school VNs are too niche perhaps. 2) Not enough of an audience compared to video materials. Does anyone else sub to magazines? I for one hope they never die out. What would your dream VN magazine be like? Even if no one starts a series, we can at least dream about it. I am secretly hoping someone does do it. Can't imagine how it can survive honestly except out of passion, but I would show my support on Patreon for example if the presentation is up to par. Thanks for hearing me out .1 point -

And finished! (Well, still have the Another Story part, but it's aside from the Main story, so i'm posting my opinion now) It was good. Or more like, good and sometimes awesome. Leyline 1: Good, but nothing outstanting, as it's the game supposed to make you discover the world of the VN. CGs are beautiful, and BGMs are kinda nice too. Leyline 2: The background was set in the first game, so it can go deeper. A little like the first one at first, then it quickly becomes better going deeper in the story. The revelations are amazing and the end really emotional. CGs are beautiful as always, and the new BGMs are nice, particulary Vanish. Leyline 3: To be honest, I liked the atmosphere of the second game better, but I really liked it too, and Ushio is just too cute in this one. My only complaint is that, well, you know. Anyway, really liked the end, it was beautiful! CGs are eye candy as always, with a few REALLY beautiful ones, and really liked the Ley-Line BGM. Anyway, all in all really liked this trilogy. Plot holes aside, the mysteries were cool. I really liked the humour and the characters, thought I would have liked Koga to be more proactive sometimes, but he's not bad at all. Ushio is a given, and Omaru (Yeah, well, once you're used to it...) and Shizuka are really well developed. So yeah, time well spent! Now, I did Kisaragi Gold Star, Natsuiro Recipe (well, only Yuzu's route), and the three Ley Line in succession, so guess I'll rest a few days before playing the next one. I wonder what I'll read next... (I also have Sora no Kiseki the 3rd to do, hope I'll be able to finish everything before Dies Irae)1 point

A bit late, but maybe it will help someone. I don't know how this works, but if you connect a mouse, it will work... I myself have a tablet on win8.1 and fortunately it has a USB port, but if yours doesn't have one, you will have to use bluetooth or OTG cable or whatever is available to you. I haven't found another way... BTW, once you start it, you don't need the mouse anymore, so you can disconnect it. You can start the game at home and then put it in sleepmode or take the mouse with you. (I'm also not sure that it can work in portrait mode when in fullscreen)1 point
