I love Eushully's unique fantasy world, Dir Lifyna. Most of Eushully's games, save for a few oddball ones by the subsidiary Anastasia and Fortune Arterial, are based in this world, which began with the original Ikusa Megami (if this gets translated, somebody please smash the skull of anyone who translates the title, because they'll probably pick the worst permutation of it). The first thing that anyone going into this setting should know, if only for giggles, is that this was never intended to be an expansive setting containing ten or more games. Ikusa Megami was intended as a one-off game and was competing with Venus Blood, of all things. However, to the people who played the game, the setting was incredibly attractive, and they sold well enough to justify a sequel, which was even more well-received (if only because the dungeon-crawler elements were toned down to normal jrpg levels). The basic setting of the world is that, far in the past, a technologically-advanced human world created a gate/tunnel linking a world full of magic and demihumans, for reasons that pretty much boil down to boredom and stagnation as a species due to excessive technological development. Unfortunately, this accidentally caused the two worlds to begin to merge, causing a conflict between their denizens and their gods. An important common element to note between the two worlds is that gods existed in both worlds, but the gods of the human world had mostly ceased intervening in mortal affairs openly long before, causing the near death of faith. Since faith/belief is the source of all deities' power, the humans found themselves at a surprising disadvantage in the war, because their belief in their deities was almost nonexistent. Worse, magic was quite capable of countering most of the advantages of human tech based on pure physics. A faction of humanity chose to pursue the amalgamation of magic and tech, creating wonders and horrors (including artificial demons and gods), but over time (the war apparently lasted for generations), more and more humans switched sides, devoting themselves to gods on the other side, even as humanity's old gods were destroyed, sealed, or enslaved one by one. By the end of the war, humanity was just another race, perhaps more numerous than the others, in the service of the 'Living Gods', and the 'Old Gods' were relegated to dusty legend and actively considered evil by most, if they weren't in the service of a Living God. Human technology was, for the most part, wiped from the face of the new, merged world, and the only remnants can be found in ruins filled with monsters and/or automatic guardians. The dominant deity of the new world is Marsterria, a minor war god who enslaved and killed more Old Gods than any other. Most of his worshipers are humans, their prolific breeding and generations of faith having given him immense power. His followers are often at odds with the protagonist of the Ikusa Megami series and nonhuman races, because of their excessive zealotry and broad determination of what species are considered 'dark races'. Conflict between dark gods and their servants and the gods of light and theirs is a normal part of the world of Dir Lifyna, with neutral regions and nations often becoming the battlegrounds for said followers as a result. This is a world with a massive number of intelligent species, and that, in the end, is what makes it so much fun to look forward to each game, even if the flop ratio is over 50%, lol. Damn, it was hard to do that without spoiling anything. Edit: It should be noted that demons, angels, nagas, and a few other races were actually coexisting with humanity but hidden due to their more direct service to deities in the original human world. The nagas still maintain faith with old gods for the most part, and as a result, they are marginalized to an immense degree. Most angels 'fell' or serve one of the Living Gods now (or both), and demons are a plague, with more summoned on occasion since demon summoning was one of the few magics that remained to humanity when the worlds met.2 points

Santa Hats for Your Avatars, once again
Kenshin_sama and one other reacted to Fiddle for a topic
Merry December! 'Tis the season for everyone to adorn their avatars with Santa hats and forget about them well into February. How does this work? Well, you either edit a Santa hat from below—or from elsewhere on the Internet—onto your avatar, or you get Fiddle to do it. No, he isn't busy or anything. (He probably is busy or anything.) So: if you're too lazy to put a Santa hat on your avatar yourself, then ask for one of the ones above, and I'll put it on your avatar in a mere [INSERT TIME HERE DURING REVISION] hours! Before requesting a Santa hat, make sure: that I haven't already Santified your current avatar during a previous year. that you numerically specify a Santa hat from the list above, or else consign yourself to my artistic taste. that you prepare yourself for the worst if your avatar is not hat-friendly, such as those in which the character's head is largely cut off from view. that animated avatars require a lot of work, and I might not be able to Santify yours. that you are free to make special requests, but with each special request, a kitten dies somewhere. You probably don't have to worry about saving your original avatars, because I keep them all in a chamber somewhere and ping you when Christmas is over and it's time to switch back. But maybe you should save your original avatar if you don't trust me, and I don't trust me.2 points -

Hey let's blow the dust off of this subforum for a bit shall we? I noticed we haven't really updated the profile info since... Fuwa was made basically (other than that one time we added Steam to user profiles). I figured I'd go ahead and add some things users might want. List of things added so far: Twitter has now been added under Contact Methods Anilist, ANN (Anime News Network) and Kitsu (formerly known as Hummingbird) are now options for those that don't have a MAL account Transgender, Other and Attack Helicopter are now available gender options Projects has now been added under Profile Information where you can specify whatever VN projects you work (or have worked) on. This isn't for me alone though, so I decided to make a thread and ask for people's suggestions regarding what other fields might be useful to have in their profiles. Important note: These are small fields that will go either under your contact methods or your profile information section. They're meant to be short. Preferrably things like the username you have on the respective website or something along those lines. Because of this, things like Youtube channels have already been ruled out due to the URLs being too long. Keep that in mind when suggesting. Furthermore, make sure that your suggestion isn't just for you but is actually something legitimately useful for the users on the forum.1 point

Hello, I always wanted to have a bgm like how it's literally in everything (movies, drama, anime, vn's etc.) but not included in my particular very exciting life. Sending god an online message to say he needs to make an additional life patch for an enjoyable experience being a weeb at least. Anyway sorry about that, it's me being me, casually weird. But if I was going to make an introducement I wanted it to be weird like me hah (yeah it was a great idea cykaki *claps self* >_>) But leaving the jokes aside I'm very pleased to be here! the idea of how visual novels can bring together this many people is just awesome. Whatever the content is, we all enjoy a good waifu story and love to see and feel new oppa- emotions. I'm just a 20 year old, really don't mind being called he/she or they. I also enjoy all types of genres of visual novels, just chilling and enjoying the show you know So yeah thanks and see you around peeps1 point

Is Kindred Spirits similar to SeaBed?
Plk_Lesiak reacted to MaggieROBOT for a topic
What Lesiak was saying is that in Kindred Spirits, Lonely Yuri and Highway Blossoms the romance is the main part of the plot. It's like the "goal" of the game is for the couple/couples (KS have more than one) to realize they love each other and get together happy. That's it. Even if there's something more, the deal of the game is to read for the romance progression. Although you mention "recovering from a traumatic event", so maybe you're okay with some mundane drama? I wanted to recommend Nurse Love Addiction, as there are some plot going on there, but the common route can be quite heavy with SoL, so I don't know what you'll think of that. Fatal Twelve is also a good choice, as it's very plot driven, but it can be a bit too light in the romance part.1 point -
I played through all the paths, though that was a long time ago... and my opinion is that, while Aselia is the canon heroine (Seinarukana is based off of her being the heroine), you should feel free to do it in any order you like. The game is long, even with the advantages of New Game+.1 point

From what I've read, they're meant for character, not fanservice. One of them is deliberately meant to be not sexy and more just really awkward.1 point -
A question about Aselia the Eternal
Dreamysyu reacted to Mr Poltroon for a topic
I believe the problem was that the battle sections took a lot of minutes to get through. It essentially felt as if the game had no skip button and you had to manually click through each line. It does have a skip button, but because you need to get through the many long battle sections, again, and again, it takes as much time as if there weren't one. If you managed to play all the sections and enjoy them, then you might manage it (though 7 times is obviously a bit much). As for me, I was full of playing the game legitimately half way through. If you do manage to find a way to experience the other routes without sacrificing so much time, which I feel would be awesome because I really like all the characters, do tell. EDIT: I know you can make saves at certain points where you have flags set such that you can jump into most routes and skip some gameplay, but you'll miss choices and character moments near the beginning that way, if I recall correctly, and I couldn't pass up any moment with dear Esperia.1 point -

Sadly, I did not have much time to work on “Up until the end” these days But don’t worry, like I said last time, we’re slowly getting there! I’m still testing the game and polishing what needs to be polished. I’ll try to make the next update sooner, I promise >< The progress so far: Story : 100% Sprites : 98% Backgrounds : 95% CG : 92% GUI : 95% Sounds and Music : 92% Programming : 98% Proofreading: 98% And that’s it for this update Thank you for your support!1 point

Is Kindred Spirits similar to SeaBed?
Turnip Sensei reacted to Plk_Lesiak for a topic
One is psychological drama/mystery and the other lighthearted romance. They could only be further apart if Seabed was a guro horror TBH, but both are excellent games in their own right. EDIT: BTW, I'm a bit lost on what you're exactly looking for... If you want a strictly plot-driven yuri VN, where romance is not really the focus but is somewhat decently developed I guess Fatal Twelve and Aoishiro are your best bets. If you want to see the romance blooming throughout the game, Kindred Spirits, Highway Blossoms and Lonely Yuri are good choices, although they don't include any intense drama or drastic character development. Flowers is maybe the yuri series most concentrated on character development, but it's also super melodramatic and not really that concerned with plot progression...? And if you're looking for "Subahibi but full yuri", I don't think that exists or will ever happen.1 point -
Kindred Spirits is a good feels and relaxation game. Play it if you just want to kick back and have a very pleasant time. There's no super involved plot or anything, but I wouldn't say it has no story. It's a series of romance stories, where the characters' relationships are developing on a pretty regular basis. Like, genuine development instead of them just hanging out for a while before spontaneously hooking up. It's really well-done, while still largely avoiding groan-worthy melodrama. I wrote a review for it a few years ago: https://fuwanovel.net/reviews/2016/03/16/kindred-spirits-on-the-roof/1 point

A question about Aselia the Eternal

It matters in the sense that Aselia is main heroine material and it's very unlikely someone has the will to play through the game multiple times. I certainly couldn't, even cheating through the gameplay.1 point -

You're probably the first person to suggest that, but I'm pretty proud of this winter-variant I made. ^^ Also, you seem to have quite a fine taste, hope you stick around for a while. :> Only when you start asking for a recommendation and no one can check what VNs you've read in the past.1 point -

Shaun reacted to littleshogun for a topic
Late to the party here. Anyway Misa's patch had been released at their site here, so go get that if you'd want to play Misa's route there and have fun. As for the next route, obviously it'll be Rikka's so I'll report the progress of Rikka's route from now on in which they'll have one tomorrow because Trip already start the work on Rikka's route here. For the record it's the longest route in Hoshiori, so it might take a while here.1 point -
The best I've found is this droopy hat. The hat is awfully photographic, but I suppose it fits when your avatar is awfully JPEGged.1 point

6. 5s remind me of a lot of nukiges I read, particularly those 'translated' by Mangagamer. Those are rather awkward to read, and because the translation is so bare and minimum, lacking most of the interesting nuances that would have made reading the texts alone entertaining, there's very little enjoyment that comes from reading these VNs or the dialogue spoken. Thankfully, nukiges' real enjoyment value lies somewhere else... 6s is the least I could tolerate if the VN I'm reading is a serious non-nukige story, because this time, I'm actually reading the VN for its story (and by extension, dialogue and narration), not for its... you know, ecchi stuff.1 point

[POLL] What's your translation quality cutoff?
Nandemonai reacted to sanahtlig for a topic
I don't see an option for an excellent writer (great editing?) with an elementary/intermediate understanding of Japanese. Mastery of the target language is more important for translation than command of the source language. The worst manual translations are often made by Japanese natives. The translations are correct but aren't something anyone except the diehard fans would want to read.1 point -
lol, what's 4chan? But seriously, taking a bunch of permatrolls seriously is a waste of time and energy. Even if you are jaded you should make an effort to be a decent human being. I don't join major social networks, as a personal policy. My primary reasons are my belief that the human brain degenerates when it is exposed to large groups of people as opposed to conversations with a smaller group and my distaste for people who can't bring themselves to look at reality. Not only that, obsessing over other people's opinion of you - in the form of kudos, thumbs ups, etc. - has a lot of bad effects on an individual's mental health. Cynicism and constructive criticism are one thing, but being poisonous without making a legitimate point is a habit far too many people are into on the net.1 point

Happiness+ reacted to Dergonu for a topic
Personally insulting other users or staff members is against the rules. Derailing threads is also against the rules. You did both. In addition, you were given a verbal warning a little while ago specifically stating that you are walking on thin ice, and if you continue trolling/ breaking the rules, you will get another warning point. Bcause of this, not giving you a warning point for this behavior when it clearly warranted one would be strange. There is no special treatment for anyone on Fuwa. If you break the rules, making a thread pretending you didn't won't undo your actions. (And might just make things worse.) I think it's only fair that people are informed of what happened, instead of just seeing your misleading side of the story, so I won't hide this thread, but lock it. If you have an issue with your warning point, please PM a staff member and we can discuss it, though seeing as you were given a verbal warning saying this would happen if you continued breaking the rules prior to this, I fear it might not be of much use. To anyone else reading this, of course you are free to criticize people on this site, be it staff members or not, if it's constructive and not just ill spirited and off-topic. There is a difference between criticism and baseless, off-topic insults.0 points
