What are you going to do to become less of a NEET in the coming year?
-
Wait, really, Claymore was good? I think I gave it two episodes, a long long time ago before I watched much anime (perhaps this is the problem?), and couldn't get into it at all. Does it end properly? What makes it good? On my front: I'm about 5 episodes into Maria now, and it is not what I was expecting, on many fronts. The constant sexual innuendo from the succubus and the incubus is actually pretty funny (at least for my easy sense of humor), and I'm really liking the overall vibe of the show, and especially, of course, Maria. I still don't have a good feel for exactly where the show is headed, but I'm enjoying the ride.

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
Fred the Barber replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
You realize this makes you a terrible person, right? I'm still trying to gather my motivation and get back to Tales of Zestiria. Yes, I have Berseria, but I've convinced myself I'd rather play through Zestiria first. Unless this is a terrible decision? -
Silvz hit all the things I'd recommend, but one recommendation is easier than a lot of recommendations, so: play Sekien no Inganock.

Oh, hey, two more people with reliably good taste suggesting Maria. Well, that's a good sign. I actually did watch the first episode of it last night, and I'm really looking forward to the rest of it now. I'm on the fence about the art style, but everything else is looking really good so far, especially, of course, Maria.

Frontwing will localize Subahibi this year
Fred the Barber replied to littleshogun's topic in Visual Novel Talk
To be honest, I might be looking forward to Island more than SubaHibi. SubaHibi is one of those VNs that's been hyped too much. I've taken enough philosophy classes to know that "philosophical" means different things to most people than it does to me, and I mostly find the thing other people usually mean when they call something "philosophical" to be annoying, so given how often that label is affixed to SubaHibi, I'm leery of it. I'll play it, and I honestly expect I'll enjoy it, but I'm trying to intentionally tank my hopes for it so I can be pleasantly surprised. -
Or was it starfish?

I watched all of Nisemonogatari in one day yesterday (hush, you frequent marathoners; that's a lot for me). I think my brain turned to mush. Nisemonogatari didn't leave quite as much of an impression on me as Bakemonogatari. Perhaps the arcs were a little too long this time, or maybe it was just not as charming since it wasn't constantly introducing lovable new main characters, but it was still great. The little sisters were fabulous, the fanservice was intense (especially Twister and the teeth brushing), and I really liked the vibe surrounding the conclusion of the last arc (phoenix). Will definitely watch more, but for now, I need to watch something different. Thinking of picking up Maria the Virgin Witch, which, despite the worst title of all time and despite my having only heard of it once, comes highly recommended by that single person, whose taste I trust.

Pssh, I remember you. You like stars, right?

To be honest, I'm kind of surprised that in all of this, you don't have more to say about Kurugaya's route. I found it one of the most intriguing ones. I suspect you're going to get even more annoyed by Mio's route, actually, but I definitely recommend you to stick with the game anyway, because Refrain is where Little Busters! really picks up, and you're almost there.

Kokoro Connect is beautiful. I actually don't know anybody who's watched it who didn't like it. My favorite part is that it has good, medium-length plot arcs which get completely, satisfyingly resolved, but throughout them it's also advancing the characters and their relationships. I will take this opportunity to once again lament the fact that the light novels aren't getting officially translated...

Vastly cuter than all the moe anime girl avatars. Perfect 10/10

Admittedly not a high bar, but this is probably the best relationship advice I've ever seen on Fuwa.

Confession: Further confirming my horrible sense of humor, I watched the Lego Batman movie and really enjoyed it. Was really surprised to see Will Arnett was doing the voice of Batman when the credits rolled, then thought back and was not even remotely surprised. He was perfect. It's no surprise to see him rock a ridiculous over-the-top comedy role like Lego Batman, though I still can't get over how good he was in The Secret World of Arrietty as a rock-solid calm-as-can-be father. Anyway, surprisingly entertaining movie, and well worth the $0 I paid for it (yay office field trips).

Pretty much this. I don't know how I forced myself to read the whole thing, but the new stuff in After Story was sometimes worth it (everybody knows Clannad is all about After Story, right?).

TFW it's a month and a half later and Flutterz still isn't up to 5000 posts.

I really went into the game with no expectation that I'd like the new characters (why would you want more characters when you had the cast of Steins;Gate to play with, right?), and was completely enamored with Maho in under an hour. She's a treasure.

Some good news for you: the idiot comedy duo basically vanishes about 1/4 of the way through (probably pretty shortly after where you are, if you already saw the game-chucking scene). They're just there to make the early part of the story less empty, before the whole main cast gets put together. ...I'll hold myself back from saying anything further about the game, since I've already made my views clear.

Playing VNs in window vs fullscreen?
Fred the Barber replied to PhleBuster's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Fullscreen all the way, unless the game literally won't run fullscreen. If there's one clear result from both this thread and the poll, it's that the split is pretty even and you have to do a good job with both I do agree with @ChaosRaven that the poll and the described motivation for the poll seem only kind of loosely correlated, though... -
I don't see how you can call people using this "restoration patch" anything but pirates. JAST USA is selling selling two different, but related, products on different storefronts, and they've priced them differently. Some people apparently want the expensive one, but buy the cheap one and then "restoration patch" it so that it becomes the expensive one because that's the one they want to play. I guess at least this way they're paying some fraction of the money that they wanted to charge for it towards JAST USA, but if you don't see this as piracy, you've got a weird way of looking at the world. And as far as "censorship", if you want the other release, freaking pay for it, or maybe complain about the price of the uncensored release, I guess? But don't claim this patch is a great victory for anti-censorship moral crusaders; that just sounds idiotic. They've officially released two versions of the game, one of which is, as far as I understand not "censored"; buy the one you want.
