I didn't see anything similar around here, but it's a pretty basic idea. If there's already something like this I am sorry for I did not find it. Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to post VN CGs with a funny caption underneath or on the image itself, whichever you prefer. If it's a spoilery CG, please say which VN it is from so people know in advance. Additionaly, I kindly ask people put their images between spoiler brackets, so people aren't bombarded with a huge load time and bandwith cost. I'm not very funny, but here are two simple ones I tried to do: Hanachirasu: Kikokugai:

Things that make you want to play a VN?
InvictusCobra replied to Chronopolis's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Some aspects that I enjoy the most in VNs have changed since I first started reading them. Before I'd take anything with romance and comedy, granted the story was at least mildy good. Nowadays, I'm more inclined for darker themes and VNs that are more focused on violent stories with high amounts of fights, or just grim in general (most things by Nitro+ or Gen Urobuchi come to mind). If it has psychotic or bloodthirsty villains, even better (i.e. Hazama and Azrael from Blazblue). Some things that have remained with me for the whole of my reading time have been: Good art (bonus points for a high amount of CGs) Nice music (I prefer something more agitated and heavy) Taboo themes such as incest Happy endings -

I've not played many JRPGs so I'm probably not the best person to be posting this but: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqiG20EZyOQ It can get really irritating and is a cheaper plot denouement than Chinese or Indian child labour.

Your biggest turn-offs in visual novels?
InvictusCobra replied to CeruleanGamer's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I haven't found many things that I find revolting. However, a few I can name that make my skin crawl. - Guro: Can't stand it. I like violent characters and Yanderes, but when it comes to the graphical aspect I really don't like it. Even in some games, I can't take it. - Utsuge: I am already depressed enough, thank you very much. I hate sad endings and if something's sole purpose is to make me feel miserable, I'll avoid it like the plague. Heck, even some happy endings give me the blues. -NTR: Even though the corruption of a character is something I find mesmerising (be it sexually or morally), I can't like NTR most of the times. I get attached to characters very easily and thus, the bad feelings I get from watching it are exacerbated. I also try to view sex as something more romantic than just carnal desire, which can complicate things further (even some sex scenes in Starless didn't arouse me due to being more about love than pleasure). - Scat doesn't make me feel sick nor does it give me nausea, but I don't seek it. -
Enjoy my face, one which only a mother could love and has been single for 20 years. Here's me trying to force a small smile. I don't like smiling because I think it makes me look like a mentally disabled person.

Why am I writing this? I don’t know, I just felt like sharing. Where to start… Well, as all of you I am a fan of Visual Novels. I’ve read a few, but due to personal problems I had to stop for my own good. However, I found out that reading violent VNs with no romance was OK, so two weeks ago I read Kikokugai – The Cyber Slayer and Hanachirasu. After that I wanted to read more, but sadly most are not translated so I went and tried to read I/O… until I found Togainu no Chi… Now, during random searches on VNDB this one had come across me a few times, and despite liking Yaoi anime, the screenshots of the H-scenes just made me say “Ew, I’m not touching that.” A week ago I noticed it was translated, and whilst I was preparing to read I/O, I thought: “To hell with it, it’s Nitro+ so it’s good.” So I began reading TnC. Finished it just now and I am proud to say… I don’t regret my choice, as I loved every moment of it. The action, the characters, the music (first VN I ever found besides Blazblue with Metal), the CGs… and even the H-scenes. Yes, I enjoyed the sex scenes, the muscled bishounens raping and loving each other. Granted, not in a sexual way, but that’s not what this is about. I guess the point of this is that I just wanted to say: Don’t let prejudice and a narrow mind hinder you. I thought this would be somewhat disgusting and I found myself enraptured by Togainu no Chi. Do I think I’m special because I’m a straight guy who reads and enjoys Yaoi? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t, and I guess we all require something to make us feel unique. Despite this foolishness of mine, in the end we’re all equal and bound by the same thing, the love for the medium and I… am just another Visual Novels reader. That is all and I thank you for taking the time to read this. Here: a nice, albeit sad music:

Sigh, first my Father and now one of my favourite Youtubers. Fuck you cancer, just... fuck you... I hope he can hold out for as long as possible. Nevermind his channel, just want him to recover or to live out the rest of his days in a way that will make him feel fulfilled in the end.

Literally zero. If you say you're a visual novel enthusiast, who the fuck has any say in the matter? You can be a Shoot 'em Up fan without having ever finished one. I agree. It a really subjective thing and you can't exactly grade ppl by the amount of games they've played. Hell you could grade them based on the knowledge of existent VNs or the number of hours read/played. If anyone would like a friendly scale of fandom, then perhaps... casual-----------------------enthusiast------------------------------------fan----------------------------------------adept--------------------------veteran 2-5 hours read 10+ hours read or 1-2 VNs read 30+ hours read or 5-7 VNs read 100+ hours 15+VNs 500+hours 30+VNs YMMV of course and then again, it's still subjective. It would be hard to call yourself a VN reader if you haven't even finished one tho, regardless of how many hours you've read, but it's still possible as Palas said (for example you could read most of a VN and drop it halfway since you didn't like it, the same we all do with anime.) 500 hours and 30 VNs for veteran? Seems like a low standard. Is there a higher tier than that? Clephas level: 1500+ hours 200+ VNs read

I could also post a lot, but I'm going to stick with just the one I've heard hundreds of times and still get goosebumps I don't listen to many EDs, but here's one I really like

If action is all you desire, then I point you towards two of Nitro+'s works, Kikokugai and Hanachirasu. Both are dark and violent revenge stories with lots of action and close to no fillers/comedy and Moe. The first is about a former assassin who seeks revenge upon the people who raped and murdered his sister, the second is about two master swordsmen who wish to duel one another to the death for differing reasons. Kikokugai has a faster pace and is set in a cyberpunk dystopian Shanghai, and Hanachirasu has slower, more realistic action, with many infodumps about swordfighting and calculating your enemy's moves.

Damn, if I were to write all I have to say about this franchise, I'd write my own book Anyway, I'll be brief and answer the questions for now (assuming these are all for TW3). I'll put them all in spoilers since most will have them.

I just finished reading Hanachirasu, right after having read Kikokugai. Are there any more like those in English? I feel as if they are an exception, so I'm honestly not too confident. It doesn't have to necessarily involve sword combat, since the dark settings and themes are what I want. Thanks in advance. Also, is

Covering Fire, I choose you! Been months since I last played XCOM, but I used to take that skill a lot. Then again, I never played above Classic so what do I know.

So I searched the forums and found no thread for this one. I just finished reading this and I must say, I absolutely loved it. When I found it earlier today on VNDB, I thought to myself "A 2-10h Nitro+ game? Well, Saya No Uta is one of my favourites so screw it." Read it in one sitting and little did I know it was a Urobutcher one. Man, Nitro+ games or Urouchi games have such a charm to them. Whether it's story, characters, music or artwork, they always have the right amount of dystopia, hope, bleakness and action to be all killer no filler. I found the melee and katana combat much more titilating than I expected and the action is awesome. I guess the only complaint I have is that only after finishing it, did I realise I had read the All Ages version, though that did not bother me much, given that it made the action occur faster and the relationships aspect was powerful enough on its own. Regarding the ending:

Title. At least for myself, some forms of escapism actually enhance the problems I'm trying to get away from, despite the fact that I purposefuly seek and desire those forms of escapism. What would you do if something you loved doing made things worse?

Welp, did everything for one girl, got another.... Sigh, at least I didn't get a Bad End... The game is nice and it's nice to see a more upbeat Days game with some changes to some of the cast's personalities. While I love the fact its a quasi anime, the way it changes scenes is so abrupt it kinda harms it most of the times. Only saw one Ero scene so far, didn't think it was that big a thing, but then again the last thing I read was Starless so it's impossible to top that heh... One thing that kinda bothered me the whole way through: Excuse my ignorance, but what the hell is Sonico doing in this game? lol It's gonna be hard without a guide, but time to see if I can actually get the girl I'm aiming for this time around... As for technical issues, didn't experience any, but I followed the guidelines kindly posted by Decay from the start (launch as Admin and pressing alt+enter for fullscreen).

Siegfried Paladin Male German Aryan (so blonde and pale) Uses a heavy helmet (the ones that look like they are from Warhammer 40k) White armor. Will you be using the Long War mod? It makes the game ridiculously hard and takes much longer to complete. Anyway, good luck and I hope I survive!
