Fuwanovel Podcast (Fuwacast) Official Thread
Darklord Rooke replied to OriginalRen's topic in Visual Novel Talk
0.0 How much is there to say about save slots? -
The R.O.D (Also known as Read or Die) OVA. The TV series also has British characters but it's set after the OVA.

Alice Soft — Translated Titles
Darklord Rooke replied to Kosakyun's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
Very happy with this. The Rance games scratch my "gameplay itch" better than any other translated VN. -
What are you listening to right now?
Darklord Rooke replied to Snowtsuku's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
Mmmm, relaxing. -
Bone tired and exhausted and I can't work out why. I'm typing this message with one finger on a keyboard because I can't muster the energy to use both hands. Well... that and my other hand is propping up my face, and to use two hands would mean my face goes crashing into the table.

I only looked at a few. I thought they looked gaudy imo.

Not a fan. I think tracing contributes to the “samey” type of illustrations we’re seeing in manga/anime/LNs these days - the art tends to look more boring and uninspired. Not to mention I have philosophical problems with this practice.

When a person wants to leave a community but doubts they’ll be able to stay away by themselves, they can request to be banned. It takes away your choice in the matter. On the forum I come from it’s called “self-ejecting.” He's just frustrated. He came to Fuwa because he wanted to participate in deep discussions about VNs, but Fuwa isn't at a stage where it can accomodate him yet. After Fuwa expands a little more maybe he can find a home here.

Sekai Project Official Grisaia Translation?
Darklord Rooke replied to douggle's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Things probably aren't finalised yet. Maybe they're still negotiating finer details with STEAM? They shouldn't have said anything in the first place, and they definitely shouldn't say any more until everything is certain. -
@Ren: It does not make me feel the same Lemma's for OELVN development, not VN localisation [/nitpicky mode]

It would reflect poorly on us as a community if we were to be so demanding of Tay during such a tragic time, and my best wishes go to Tay and his family. Basically there's a time and place. I can vouch that he is aware of this and has formed some plans, unfortunately he hasn't had time to do anything about it.

Getting punished for what you say on the internet
Darklord Rooke replied to Mr Poltroon's topic in General Discussion
If I remember correctly you regard the democratic system in Australia and Japan in poor light. I thought you would have pounced onto the idea that Australia has no "freedom of speech" so to speak -

I made a mistake. It seems Europe has varying forms of protection for freedom of speech. Hooray Australia! I predict Zeno is going to comment about this. With glee... -

I think America's the only place that has freedom of speech protected by the law. I know Australia doesn't have a right to free speech, for example. -

I don't understand people's need to make things public. Some people need to get a diary (or as men like to call things, a "journal".) -

Life is full of choices and consequences. I won’t go into whether I think it’s fair, but if people like this can’t foresee the possible consequences to their actions then that’s their problem. I have little sympathy for these people. -
Yep. To tell you the truth my views on storytelling has changed dramatically over the past decade. 10 years ago I would have loved stories like this, but I'm a lot pickier over stuff these days.

No, a character driven novel means the main focus is on inner conflict and developing relationships. Spending time for no other reason that spending time isn't necessary and (once again) is usually frowned upon. Spending time while actively developing relationships through decisions and changes is usually fairly impactful. 10 hours of mucking around for the sake of mucking around is usually considered bloat. A tool to develop closeness, not the goal of the novel itself. Can be easily incorporated into scenes which move the story forward.
-
Usually when people talk about uselessness in stories they are doing so relative to the story’s main purpose. Nothing exists in a vacuum, something isn’t just “funny” – it’s always funny in relation to something else. Things aren’t just useless, they are useless in relation to something else, in this case the main purpose of the story. If someone is moving forward, they are moving forward relative to something else. The “relative” bit is usually omitted because they’re generally able to be assumed. The main priority of the novel isn’t to get you to laugh, it’s designed to make you cry. They do this through the plot and the character development, and any scene which doesn’t service these main goals in some way could be described as superfluous to the novel. I believe you've inferred things from my comments that weren't there. Not great. You seem to be latching onto generic insults to hurl. Definitely annoying. Totally agree *thumbs up*

Depends on the situation. Humour can be an effective tool, humour in scenes which don't offer character development or plot development in a game which seeks to draw emotions out of you with it's character development and plot could be classified as such, yes. Yes, Key's works are rife with them. Considering 90% of stuff discussed on forums like these are people's opinions, it's pretty much assumed as default. If I were an arse I would go back and list the many posts you've made which suffer from the same fault, like the ones in the recent Euphoria thread. But I'm too lazy. If people don't want these games criticised by the english speaking audience, then don't release it to them. Once it is we really don't care where it originated from or what you think our right is to criticise it.
-
On the contrary I laughed quite a bit, that doesn’t stop the scenes being useless though. The difference between Azumanga Daioh and Key stuff is that Key stuff has a plot, which scenes of nothingness do nothing to forward. As Visual Novels are released in the West in greater numbers, you will encounter a great many people who aren’t a fan of the writing techniques contained within. I would advise you get used to the criticism and to drop the opinion that your favourite games are somehow “above criticism.”

Humour is fine, but scene after scene of mucking around is a chore to read. I'm not familiar with Eastern writing techniques, but this sort of thing is looked down upon in the West. Typically we like scenes that move the story forward and for character development and humour to occur during those scenes.

My problems with LB are the same problems I have with most KEY VNs - too much bloat and filler (too many scenes which have no purpose) and replaying the common route is an absolute chore. I also have a philosophical problem with requiring the game be replayed 6 times before being able to obtain the ‘true’ ending.
