  1. Then it’s just that the business arrangement/opportunity is no longer desirable. Happens all the time in any industry. People who no longer get paid sufficiently walk away, it happens in sport, office workers, and content creators. Maybe demand will result in another platform being built. Competition is always good I'm quite surprised there's so few options out there.
  2. Really? Where did they say that?
  3. See, this is what confuses me. I'm an outspoken guy, a lot of people will attest that I put my views out there a lot, and I do so without the incentive of cash. In a certain group of people I've talked about the stupidity of driverless cars, religion, socialism, the demise of Europe and many other potentially controversial things. The thing is, I don't receive cash for these views. In no way did this lack of cash stop me from talking about any of this stuff. If you want to talk about stuff nothing's stopping you from doing so. The idea that someone needs cash before they start is inane. But IMO Youtube is drawing a line at implicitly being responsible for the FUNDING of certain views, and they're free to do so if they wish.
  4. Which wouldn't have been possible without the exposure granted to them by Youtube in the first place. If you climb to the top all on your own then you have the right to do what you wish, but when your success is reliant on a multitude of others then you will need to compromise. If you're a writer and a publishing house suddenly no longer publishes the type of novels you write, please go on Youtube (heh) and complain vigorously about how unfair this is. Take note of how little attention you will garner. At the end of the day, you (the writer) need the distribution service of they (the Publisher) and they probably need you ... not at all. Therefore you will need to change yourself so you can take advantage of the service they provide, or use a different service. Same deal here. The company wants to change policies and well, unless the backlash makes it financially unviable for them to continue in this direction I really doubt the complaints will affect them. Businesses are not run to be convenient for you, they're run to make money (which can mean providing convenience but only when it's financially advantageous for them to do so.) At the end of the day Youtube provides a brilliant platform to get your voice out to the community. You can choose to take advantages of the services they provide, or try and find a different service. The world is about making compromises. But if people are going to complain about it, they should complain about what it actually is. I continually talk about how people hyperbolise incidents to make them seem more evil than it is. In no way is this 'censorship' but people will call it that because it provides a negative emotional response in the audience. They do this because campaigning that 'Youtube will no longer allow certain things to be funded' will not provide much response. I don't find this to be much of a deterrent. Why would no longer receiving cash affect your desire to put your views out there?
  5. This was on the cards long before MG announced their localisation of HappyMaher (I think that's spelt right?)
  6. It's not censorship: This isn't the same as banning certain material, it just means you can't make money from it. But hey, if you've got a point of view and you want to put it out there, nothing's stopping you. If you want to be edgy for coin however ... well, you'll need to find somewhere else. I hear in ye olden days people used a soapbox, a megaphone, and a hat. Just sayin'. Basically they're not going to allow their platform to fund people to potentially do some pretty awful stuff. As for the video, it's pretty hyperbolic.
  7. Rule of thumb - nudity for a reason. People will stomach nudity in games or movies if there's a reason. Genuine romance, for example, or worldbuilding like depicting the horrors and struggles in an uncaring world. Copious nudity shoehorned in purely to excite the audience will quickly get the thing labelled as 'porn'. For Example, the Witcher 3 has nudity but the first Witcher was censored. There were these sex cards you could collect after you romanced people in the first one, and they were censored in the American version of the game (I got my grubby hands on the uncensored international version.) They were then removed in the sequels.
  8. Yeah, wow, see that doesn't indicate to me that anti-SP fervor is on the rise. Remembering of course that the pledges are coming from the hard core part of the userbase, the part which is supposed to be MOST against Dovac and SP.
  9. I don't think it is, TBH. A lot of /VN/ and /VNTS/ users skulk around the Reddit boards these days. Not to mention a couple of hundred people downvoting something isn't really going to make much difference in the long run. Especially considering you don't know who's doing the downvoting. 4chan's a place where you can be salty with your words, but Reddit's a place where you can be salty with your votes. I remember when SP was just starting, people on 4chan would urge others to be more active in Reddit's voting practice. That being said, Chrono Clock's on $35,000 after ... 2 days? It's not bad. To me that sort of reaction signals anti-SP fervour is still a vocal minority among hard core fans. Probably says just as much or more than a couple of hundred downvotes on Reddit. Just my 2c. Also, casuals and people not involved in the VN community won't even notice.
  10. FFX comes second, 13 comes around 4th ... possibly 3rd. Not bad, until you remember that the gaming community is much, much larger these days and the cost of production also much greater. Final Fantasy 13-2 is also rumoured to have used material cut from the original 13. As in, the whole reason it was made was to reuse cut assets in a desperate bid to recoup money, such was the budget of the thing. If this is true, I would wager the loss in reputation probably wasn't worth it. They were different in that they weren't sequels to one another and were different stories. The mechanics used to be similar though. Similar enough anyway, imo.
  11. It isn't. Whoever told you that is laughably wrong. FF7 has sold 11 million copies to date. And it was released when the gaming community was a fraction as large as it is now. And it had nowhere near the budget. Google it if you wish. EDIT: There used to be this thing where people would misinterpret what the company said, and apply the TRILOGY SALES solely to FF13. So people would think FF13 alone had shipped 11 million copies. Others kept having to point out that's for all 3 games, not just 13.
  12. I should also point out that Deardrops is sold on Nutaku, and MG hasn't given up their storefront. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Goal's already been reached btw. $26,000 already pledged.
  13. Either people don't notice or they tolerate it, considering how many people still use Nutaku.
  14. You don't play Persona because you want an 'ace story'. They're dungeon crawlers/dating sim hybrids, since when did either of these genres place huge emphasis on 'plot'? Remember, a dating sim is not a VN, they emphasise different things. FF7, which is also about when they stopped making great RPGs. 10 was about when they stopped making good RPGs (#debateable.) And 13 was an abomination ... even though some people like it. But considering Square Enix really want to tell interactive movies instead of designing great RPGs, people who want a really involved story will feel quite happy with them in their current state. The linearity of most of the first FF13 game irritated a significant number of RPG fans, and the terrible cliche'd 'fixes' they applied to 13-2 were eye-roll worthy. By Lightning Returns people had pretty much given up, which is sad because that was probably the best RPG of the lot. They didn't have a good return sales wise either. By late 2014 the 13 'trilogy' had shipped 11 million copies ... but that's the TRILOGY. For 3 games, for Square Enix's flagship title, it's pretty poor. Also the sales for each game have been in decline, only 350,000 copies of Lightning Returns was shipped in its first week compared with over twice that number for 13-2. And reportedly the original 13 shipped 3 times as many as its sequel. So calculate the drop off rate, and you're looking at Lightning Returns shipping about 1/8th the copies FF13 did in launch week. Last time I saw the figures 13 sold something like 6.5 million copies, 13-2 sold 3 million, Lightning Returns flopped (which is sad because like I said, it's probably the best RPG of the three.) People were not happy with this edition of Final Fantasy, and SE have been doing a lot to appease fans for FF15. It looks like it'll be pretty decent imo. Final Fantasy 7 sold a million copies on Steam, which means Final Fantasy 7 in its original state will could theoretically still compete sales wise with 13. Well, at least Lightning Returns. Without a console version also. The Remake is going to blow away the latter FF games. They should also stick with a combat system. It's been no secret JRPGs have been desperately trying to figure out how to evolve their traditional turn based combat system. FF12 had a basic action RPG system, 13 had something completely different, 15 is going to be different again. They need to stick with one type and the evolve it with each iteration, not chop and change for every game. It'll never be refined that way.
  15. It's a pretty good decision by SP. The bad translation issues by Nutaku aren't a problem here, there's some select censorship by Nutaku but only in response to direct legal and financial threat. Most users probably won't even notice. In return they get to place their product on the 'shelf' of a platform with a pretty damn large consumer base. Nutaku's eroge platform IS pretty popular.
  16. IIRC (#shoddy-memory) the mangaka doesn't want an anime of Yotsuba made. he believes it'll be hard to adapt it's idiosyncratic storytelling. Shame because I think Azumanga Daioh is one of the best anime in existence.
  17. I'm interested in Funo wo Amu, I think it'll be quite interesting. And I've been told by Down that I should watch Euphonium Sound, so I'll be giving the first season of that a whirl and possibly the second season (if I like it.) Long Riders is interesting to me because of my love of cycling sports. Girlish Number because I like slice of life. And maybe Shuumatsu no Izetta
  18. To me, Danganronpa will always be a poor man's Phoenix Wright
  19. Persona 5. It is an excellent series of games, as are most Megami Tensei entries. On the other hand, the best days of the Final Fantasy franchise are long past.
  20. People's brains don't fully develop until they're about 25 (#guess.) Until that age, people think and make decisions more with their amygdala, because the prefrontal cortex is developed last. In fact, teenagers and young people will find the amygdala is relied on much more than by adults who are fully developed. The amygdala governs emotions, aggressiveness, and impulses. This is why a lot of time younger people may do things for 'no reason whatsoever'. It's also why younger people are much more emotional than those older.
  21. Whenever someone comes to me with those sorts of problems, I always point them towards Mindfulness meditation. Which is different to transcendental meditation. Mindfulness involves looking inward at your own emotions, and thoughts, and watching them rise and float away. You can also trace those emotions and thoughts back to its origin giving you a greater understanding of yourself and where your feelings come from. This sort of objective understanding tends to help when facing an overwhelming emotional state which at first looks bleak - understanding the cause of this is sometimes helpful when it comes to fixing things.
  22. Gifted actor, hella funny. I'll miss him I still think his version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is miles better than Johnny Depp's.
  23. How did Tiag's narration compare with this version:
