  1. The Witcher 3 is successful because of its scope, not because of its marketing philosophies. Bethesda is more successful than CD Projekt yet sell DLC like water (horse armour anyone?) DLC won't ever 'go away' because the industry is moving away from distributing a large lump of content (finalised game) which is then bought in a single transaction. This isn't the 90s anymore, the distribution of content through digital means is a thing and therefore will be taken advantage of. The idea of updating content, or adding content, to a package readily is too convenient to ignore. Also, CD Projekt started off owning GOG (localising games like BG2 to the Polish audience IIRC) and then branched out into dev work. Not the other way around.
  2. Take your discussion of certain torrent sites off the forum. It's against the rules.
  3. Can anybody else chime in on the TL quality of chapters 2 and 3? There's a rumour going around that it takes a dip.
  4. *Snort* the guy still expected an email I see. Read his post, couldn't help but roll my eyes all the way through it. Reminds me of the sorts of posts Steve used to make. As a fellow asshole I would advise Dovac to treat that like a compliment.
  5. As Sanah said don't go there mate, you're a little ignorant. And you have no clue how many old 'big-names' left due to Fuwa's change in direction. Don't worry though there's good news - my stance has never changed. If you have the money, buy the game.
  6. The first thing he could have done was read the Twitter account. That Dovac talks about 'his company' and 'his staff' is a good starting point. And the amount of followers he has tied with the translation scene might have been a clue the account was authentic. Also, now that imoutoworks does know he's the CEO, has he taken down the patch yet? Or is he still demanding an email. Overall, I don't exactly buy his excuses. At best, he didn't want to know.
  7. Yeah. Also the initial request from Dovac was actually pretty pleasant, it's only after imoutoworks started stuffing around that he lashed out. I don't feel sorry for the guy.
  8. Yeah, I don't like both their attitudes to be honest. It just reflects more poorly on Dovac because of the position he holds. He's not taking it down unless he's asked in a specific way? There's a difference between asking for respect and playing around.
  9. It would be exceptionally misleading of him, as the face of his company, to put out such untruths. As in, I would be incredibly disappointed at that level of unprofessionalism. There are lines, heat of the moment or not. Ideally I'd like some clarification on it before drawing any other conclusions. I'm too unknowledgeable about the business world to reach a particular point of view through speculation. Dovac needs to be more careful when talking.
  10. Well I just read Dovac’s twitter feed, and there's a couple of things to take away. Firstly, the man needs to learn diplomacy. It's important. Secondly, the alternatives seem to be this: A – All ages version at half the price of the X-rated version B – Double the price of the all-ages version and release the patch for free. Which means there is unlikely to be a scenario where people get the x-rated version cheaper than they do right now. I’m sure there’s some reasons behind that, but I won’t pretend to know what they are. So what would be the likely result of this lobbying? Merely depriving a section of the fanbase of enjoying a cut-content version at a reduced price. From a pragmatic viewpoint I don’t see the purpose of pursuing the crusade if you don’t get anything in return, and from a business viewpoint this is the most advantageous strategy. But all of this is going on the assumption that the above alternatives are the only ones available, which relies on the assumption that Dovac is telling the truth.
  11. That’s a flawed idea, and it’s flawed because you’re attributing worth to amount of content. This is probably the same sort of idea Key has (quality equals number of lines) when they pump out their horrendously bloated VNs. In fact, many content creators will tell you the same thing, which is that charging proportionally for items due to ‘content’ is not the way to go. If Rowling withheld the 2nd last chapter of Harry Potter from everyone, the bit with the climax in it, how much would that be worth to people? I'd wager the number of lines has very little to do with it. Whether Sekai overcharges for the erotic content or not is probably related to business decisions that I’m not going to comment on. But the idea of setting a price for one version of the story based (loosely or not) on how many additional lines or CGs are added is something I'm loath to endorse. For a whole crapload of reasons. Reasons most of the community don't think about. Sure, companies abuse this by setting the price of expansion or additional content arbitrarily high, but isn't this solved by traditional market pressures? If companies set the price of additional content too high, people won't buy and they'll lose money? And if people do buy, then it's obviously not too high? The alternative 'pricing for amount of content' isn't really a road I want to head down.
  12. To expand on Decay's point, a lot of people in the VN community get too wrapped up with 'ideas'. It seems like 'cool ideas' can wipe away deficiencies in technique and make things suddenly okay. I can't count the number of people who tell me Ever17's final route makes up for the tedium of the rest of the game - it doesn't. Not at all. In relation to this game, I don't understand why the reason you supplied is supposed to explain away poor technique. I'm sure someone will eventually explain it to me, in a shouty voice and with hands waving excitedly in my face. TBH, I really doubt the battle scene in chapter 7 is as good as you say. But I can't comment because I've never read it. I will say that I've never come across a translated battle scene in a VN that's been a 'masterpiece'. Sounds harsh, but eh
  13. Knowing ‘what’s going on’ won’t affect the reviewer’s critique with reference to poor scene writing (badly written fighting scenes seems to be one criticism,) or the pacing.
  14. Kaguya's conclusion -> The game shines in character development and pushing your feelings to the edge, and while it has a non-trivial amount of problems, it pulls off what it tries to do very well. 4/5 Fanboy's comment: Rule of thumb -> if a person is so in love with a game that they climax from the memory of their first playthrough, that person should be aware that any comment they make will sound as though it came from a squealing 6 year old in full cosplay. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course, but they're probably not in the required mental place to rationally evaluate the work's strengths and weaknesses.
  15. You'd be wrong with respect to Kai. Kai removes all the filler inserted into the anime that is not present in the manga. It also reverts the pacing to more like the manga also. It is, all round, a much more authentic adaption than the original DBZ anime. For sakes of consistency, if you were to say FMA:Brotherhood is a recent classic then for the same reasons you'd have to say DBZ:Kai is a recent classic, and nobody refers to it as such (even though it is generally seen as a superior adaption.) You can. Both original series modified the original content, both later put out anime series to rectify that. FMA may not have had an ending, but that's only because they didn't pull a Frieza '5 minute' moment.
  16. A sentiment which applies to any series. Not really. Both are decent series, and from what I've seen and heard people tend to think they're fairly comparable, each having their pros and cons - http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=455695 The fact remains though, even if Brotherhood is better than the original (and I suppose it is more 'shounen-esque') the original was considered a much watch BEFORE Brotherhood came out. Similar in the ways DBZ was a classic BEFORE Kai. Do we say DBZ Kai is a classic anime on it's own, or do we just call it all DBZ and be done with it?
  17. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood shouldn't really apply, considering it's a re-release of a much older anime and comes under the umbrella term 'Full Metal Alchemist' which is already a classic.
  18. Constant replaying of the main path to explore all the options is the point of a choice and consequence system. That's not the problem. No no, where the traditional route structure completely fails is when the player is compelled to replay the main story over and over to achieve the real ending (AKA satisfying conclusion) to the story. That's one of the worst examples of game design I have ever come across, and remember I'm a 90s kid so I've experienced some pretty shit pieces of game design. Corona Blossoms doesn't seem too bad at first glance. I'm not really interested in the subject matter, though
  19. Tyr is right. Especially when you consider MS is disappointed they won't reach their 1 billion installs by whenever - it'll definitely be free again in the future. They want that OS on as many computers and gadgets as possible.
  20. Not to the extent that Nosebleed seems to be talking about. As for Dies Irae and Muramasa:
  21. Serial Experiments Lain http://myanimelist.net/anime/339/Serial_Experiments_Lain
  22. What you don't mention is that Nabokov had a command of the English language that surpassed most native speakers. So if a person knows Japanese to that extent then sure they should go for it. Keep in mind that a writers command of a language exceeds that of a normal speaker of a language, so to write in a language you should be (should be) considered better than fluent.
  23. Ah. While I don't exactly know what you're referring to, lately I'm transferred most of my discussion to Kaguya's phase group. In fact, if you talk to people on that group they'll probably say I've been talking far TOO much and it's likely they wish I'd stop
