What do you guys think about the term "Weeaboo"
Darklord Rooke replied to DrKleiner's topic in General Discussion
That probably has something to do with it. In my 30s and the normal people I hang around with don't know the word. -

Good point. On a different topic - HA! Apparently the word originated from 4chan. Should've known, really. Only crap comes from there. -

So they've watched anime then. Good to know. Most people from the 90s wouldn't have touched it, THOSE are normies. -

Of course. All sorts of people use a Japanese word with no meaning to them to express displeasure ... The only reason people on this forum think all sorts of people use the word is because they're usually younger, and more young people have watched anime and been involved in the fandom compared with before. That and they're likely to hang around certain select groups of friends which share certain select interests. -
With Steam it's horrible because there's so many games that you sorta drown in all the shitty ones. Which is why you hear everybody cry out for curation. With this version the idea could work, because the amount of games is reduced significantly. This of course is ignoring whether they're excluding games based on offensive content.

Thank you Zaka, for bringing my attention to this ... intriguing thread >:c

Had this discussion like Sanah said. Weeaboo is a term used by those which know anime culture to put down a section OF anime fanbase. dfbreezy is quite wrong when he said it's used by "normies", considering I hang around with many normies and they have no fricken clue what the word means. My anime watching friends on the other hand ... -
Bookmarked. Specialists have already come out and said why building a wall stretching the whole border is unfeasible. Also the wall will go through much public land, like National Parks, which will take negotiation through Congress, which will never happen. Which is why his 2,000 mile wall has suddenly become a 1,000 mile wall. When he was talking about "natural barriers" I'm sure he was talking about barriers for himself and not for the Mexicans. A classic "oh shit" moment. But Trump doesn't have to be "right" to win this election. Anyway in case anyone is curious, here's the 5 reasons Michael Moore thinks Trump will win: http://michaelmoore.com/trumpwillwin/

Koiken Otome Discussion and Poll
Darklord Rooke replied to littleshogun's topic in Visual Novel Talk
So the translation is literal, yet at the same time it takes quite a few liberties? Hmmm ... -
Actually what I imply is something only I can say, what you infer from that statement is your own business. Considering the whole point of my argument was that the general Western public don't know the term 'Weeaboo', and 'general' is a synonym of 'normal', I don't believe you need to dig too far to get what I was actually saying. And considering 'normal' is just another word for what is 'usual', I'd say there are plenty of terrible things you can say about 'normal' people. And I can talk all day on this, so you're welcome to create another thread if you really wish to talk about this topic.

Apart from not contributing to society? Nothing at all. It does, however, skew their opinions and perceptions, and it does mean they're not what you consider normal people. I will say this, the only people who use the term 'weeaboo' are people familiar with anime culture. I can say with 100% certainty I wasn't commenting about people with 'social phobia'. It's a stupid insult, imo. Originating from fans of Japanese culture to criticise a select group within that fanbase.

People who spend all their time commenting on Youtube are people who live in the basement of their parents house, doing nothing else all day but playing games and watching anime. Allow me to go to the Japanese 2chan board and form an opinion about the entirety of the Japanese people from my experience there, because it's pretty much the same thing. Walk around the street and say the word 'weeaboo' to someone and most likely the response you'll get is a funny expression and a slow backing away.

Yes, I also use a pre-paid credit card for online payments. In general I like to pay with cash, it's something I feel like I have some control securing. When the cash is on me, people need to physically take it away from me and when there's too much I put it in a bank (which tends to be secure.) With a credit card there's skimming by restaurants and random passer-bys, there's those trojans that get shit from your computer, there's MG and Sony getting hacked and having all those details go to someone else, I feel like I'm not in control of my own money. This causes stress. I don't like stress ...

In my experience, the people who show the most hostility toward 'weeaboos' are people in the West familiar with Japanese culture. Because 'weeaboos' love Japanese culture but aren't familiar with it, those who ARE knowledgeable tend to look down on them. Take for example the amount of Japanese pandering in OELVNs, it's consumers of Japanese media that led the criticism against these games, not the general public itself. The general 'Western' public wouldn't know the difference between a 'weeaboo', an 'otaku', and a general nerd. In fact, the general 'Western' public wouldn't know the term 'weeaboo'. I therefore find comments about the "West's" attitude to weeboos to be suspect, TBH.

Adventure games contain exploration, a narrative, and puzzles. A game which contains only a narrative and puzzles would more likely be classified a 'puzzle game'.

Comics are those 4 panel strips you find in the newspaper. So no, they're not

What Is Editing? (baby don't hurt me)
Darklord Rooke commented on Fred the Barber's blog entry in The Freditorial
It's all good advice for both writing and editing. Not advice to follow always, but stuff to keep in mind. Fan-translations would benefit greatly from following these tips, especially the point about references to time, stronger verbs instead of adverbs, and cutting the fat. -
I too am fond of those wordy text guides Half-arsed wiki crap are terrible.

No, I don't consider them games.
