Sekai Project's first unsuccessful kickstarter?
Mkilbride replied to tahu157's topic in Visual Novel Talk
By the way, Kickstarter always works that way. If you reach 99% of your goal, no money is taken as well. KS's only get their money if they reach 100%, not including Paypal. -
20$ for fucking voices? They're absurd.

Ever17 has good atmosphere. Sadly the story never went anywhere interesting. Remember11 is good though.

Bullying in VN's always seems like the worst ever.
Mkilbride replied to Mkilbride's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Well, realistic bullying I could deal with and would emit a realistic response. I am reading the Miyako route of Majikoi right now and I totally not caring because the story seems so unbelievable, the other girls routes I've done so far had legitimate issues to work through, hers don't resonate. I did like the one in Yume, it was well done. Miyakos feels like "Oh, look at all these 8 year olds who shoudn't even have a concept of life and death yet, wanting their classmate to commit suicide and doing terrible things to emotionally damage her for no reason" ectera. I can't buy into it, it's not well written, nor does it make sense. When I went to school any teacher who even saw a student get made fun of by another would give that kid detention and call his parents. -
Didn't mean as a sex route or a romance route, but more of an epic back story.

I'm pretty sure it's on purpose. No one could write a character like that and not expect everyone to hate him.

It's kinda like how Fate / Stay Night had a 2006 Anime...does that mean F/SN sucks? No, just the 2006 adaption does. -

I played DYLHB2 first, when I had no idea what the genre was. For my first "Real" VN, I'd say I played Tsukihime. That is when I saw they weren't just for porn. My favorite VN still. -
Hmm, maybe the game will contain an optiont o use original CG? Because it is as I thought, the cropping is hard with this one. They take 20% from the top, 20% from the bottom. They add 10% to the left and 10% to the right, so we're still missing 20% of the image. It's like with DBZ...I am perfectly fine with the widescreen release, but I do notice how much of the image is cut out. That's not even mentioning the new text box blurring even more of the image, you're probably seeing 40% of what you used to see, just to appease widescreen only people.

I went to a school that had stabbings and gun threats, along with supposed gangs, in the middle of the worst city in my state. Never saw bullying as I mentioned, so it always seemed to me like the Media was overblowing it. -
Yeah, the grind is bad, but it's great you can use a controller. I just leaned back in my chair and relaxed on auto-fast forward battles.

Just a for your information bit, most VNs don't have uncensored mosiacs lying around by the developer,s they'd have to make them themselves, and the quality wouldn't be near the original, so I can see why they don't bother.

I've read G Senjou before, I was just wondering if they were indeed cropped or re-drawn or something like that. A shame, I personally don't mind cropped images, but there are people out there I've seen get into huge flame wars over it concerning TV shows before. The comparison with the images currently shown on the steam store would be interesting, just to show how much is cropped out. I mean finding the scenes shown in the VN on Steam's page and the scenes in the original VN, to see how much is cut. I also just noticed it now has a text box when previously it didn't, I hope there is an option to go back to that, if I want to replay it and play the Steam release, it's pointless to be widescreen if 30% of the image is cut off in a giant text box.

Nor did anyone at my schools seem bullied, and I went to to a pretty hellish publish school in terms of student body, lots of assholes, but no really bullying, I'm a people watcher, creeper perhaps, but I like to watch social interaction and I never noticed anyone being singled out. Nor did I notice an entire classroom collectively coming together and trying to get a student to commit suicide. I don't know about other states, or countries, but I've only seen this in Japanese Media. -

Is it because of Japans nature of being very isolationist / conforming to the norm and not standing out? -
I mean, I didn't see much bullying in my school, from the U.S here, I know it happens, but the shit I read in VNS is crazy. Suicide clubs, people beating the ever loving shit, stealing their stuff, the entire class hating on them, not just like one bully bullying them, but everyone, many VNs I've read I see this in, animes too, I never see it in other media except Japanese anime, Manga, and VNs, bullying so bad it makes the entire class look like sociopaths. Is it really so bad over there? I know such media isn't an accurate representation of their culture, but more of a parody in the way that U.S Cartoons / Books / TV shows can be, and I know stress from school can make them suicidal, but it gets so absurd reading this stuff sometimes it completely removes me from the story because it becomes so unbelievable that in a class of 26 kids, 25 of them decide to make that one kids life a living hell.

Eh, the battle system isn't that difficult as I recall, I did however play it almost two years ago now...damn, it's been that long, huh? For all the hardest fights, you get plot abilities. Can also grind levels.
-
I'd like to see a comparison of the scenes on the 4:3 original version and the 16:9 version screenshots on Steam.

If you've never read F/SN, please do. I know it's kinda cliche at this point in VN History, but it's one of the big ones, and it needs to be read. Reading Majikoi myself, the first one, I think Cookie needed his own route. The most famous voice actor in the entire cast and he's a bit character.

Adam Sandler movies I love and all of my family and friends love are rated like 20% on IMDB or Rotten Tomatatoes. I still enjoy the movies.

Pretty much all the characters of Higurashi are borderline retarded.
-
I read Higurashi recently as a friends insistent recommendation. All 8 main routes for the original game. I've rarely ever felt like I wasted my time reading a VN...except when I read Umineko as well. I just don't like this author. He wastes so much time.

Cross Channel ending discussion (Major spoilers)

Haha, you want a happy ending and you're reading Swan Song, it's like wanting a happy ending in Saya no Uta. -
Lol, palying more into the Chris route, at the part where her father comes back to Japan and shit.... I still don't like Chris, she's somehow still spoiled and shit, on top of that she and Maru had the least sexy sex scene in the game yet, which surprised me.
