Your first VN experience
john 'mr. customer' smith replied to Wolfscythe's topic in Visual Novel Talk
i think i got curious about vns from listening to dodger get repeatedly shut up trying to talk about them on the co-optional podcast so i went to her channel and started watching the reject demon toko, because it had a cool artstyle and some boobs, and i thought it was kind of nice. i think the reason why i love vns so much is that to me, they are a perfect compromise between books and films. they have the controllable pace of books (very important to me, because of my concentration disorder) but they also have music and visuals to enhance the experience, like a film. there is something wonderful about reading text while listening to music that was made for it, while also being able to pause at will to think a sentence over again -
Embarassing moments with vns...

i'm kind of jealous of a lot of you... i used to be the world's most careful person when it came to anything pornographical, so nothing like this ever happened, but constantly being afraid of people walking in seriously reduces the enjoyment. now though, i live in a student house full of autists like me who would never dream of entering without knocking. thank fuck for that. i'm not afraid to play purely text-based porn games though, not even during school breaks. i wonder if anyone will ever notice... -
Would you do it.

respectively, not if i was sure i'd have a long life afterwards HELL YEAH, i love body swapping and i've got plenty of offline material -
adding corruption of champions to that, similar idea but because it only has text it can be a WHOLE lot crazier

as for imouto paradise, you think that one was weird? there was one scene were hiyori suddenly became a futanari for a day, for no reason other than 'the father sent some strange drink over from his travels because he thought it would be funny'

it's not like i can't enjoy(for want of a better word) something like saya no uta, i'd just rather avoid horror unless i know it's really really good. but if i ever decide to learn japanese in order to read vns, i'll keep it in mind3 -

that looks...extreme gonna have to wait for a translation though i kind of expected you to mention cinders, judging from your review. i'll definitely try oblivious garden though. that looks pretty amazing -
i don't know if there isn't already a topic for this, but i haven't found one i have always loved it when any type of media, especially games/vns can create a strong, distinct and immersive atmosphere and use it to the advantage of the other elements i don't really care what type of atmosphere, though i'm not a big fan of horror. stuff like space, (magic) forest, rainy places or cyber/steampunk always works, but as i said, anything goes. so, strong, distinct and immersive. the more of that, the better thanks in advance

+1 for clannad, though be warned, you basically can't complete it without a walkthrough -

Show yourself off (RL picture thread)
john 'mr. customer' smith replied to Nayleen's topic in Members' Lounge
here's me, standing in front of the zeiss planetarium in Jena, Germany (the city where miss jena was made) it's also the oldest one in the world, and those two facts were enough for me to want to spend 15 hours alone in a train to be able to see a show there. and yes, it was amazing, although not as amazing as planetarian this was like 2 days ago -
Just finished Clannad and wanted to talk about it
john 'mr. customer' smith replied to akaritan's topic in Visual Novel Talk
i just finished it 2 days ago, and i mostly agree, except after story hit me a lot harder. i lost count at how many times i burst into tears in the last 6 hours or so, and the ending gave me the most emotional moment i have ever had. ever. i was already familiar enough with key magic that it didn't bother me. i actually decided that i would read a basic explanation of what happens in the true ending before actually reading it, and i'm glad that i did. it prevented me from getting confused (like with kanon and air), which would otherwise spoil an emotional, meaningful ending. the only route in the school part i truly appreciated was kotomi i wonder though, should i still watch the anime? -
