Innocent Grey: Make good murder mystery games. Fav: Kara no Shojo Waffle: Showed me even nukige can have good stories and characters. Fav: Kyonyuu Fantasy Gaiden 2 Minatosoft: Their games make for very good light reading. Fav: Tie between Majikoi and Tsujidou-san no Junai Road Honorable Mentions: Black Cyc: Back when they made good games (here's hoping the new Extravaganza game will be good) I used to watch their pages like a hawk, anticipating what the next game would be. The reason is they told some really enjoyable dark stories that would have at least one satsifying conclusion. Fav: Tie between MinDead Blood and Gun Katana Type Moon: Because of how awesome their universe is. Honorable mention until/if that Tsukihime remake comes out. Fav: Fate/Stay Night Speed: As far as I can tell, the only ones who managed to create a good zombie eroge series...until Ball Buster Fav: Kansen 3 -
Which VN localization company do you prefer?
BookwormOtaku replied to VirginSmasher's topic in Visual Novel Talk
No contest, Mangagamer. Why?: 1) Better timed releases. 2) Better handling of all ages and 18+ releases. 3) Has a "can do" attitude about their releases, thanks in part to the blog posts where the staff comment on the games they worked and the biweekly progress updates for their games' translation stats (which is also better presented than JAST's). -
Time for you guys to decide what I read [Poll]
BookwormOtaku replied to VirginSmasher's topic in Recommendations
Well, to be fair my second suggestion (after Euphoria) would be Koihime Musou -
Anime Central Speculation and Announcement Thread
BookwormOtaku replied to Decay's topic in Visual Novel Talk
You know me so well and this is my current reaction (and most everyone else would be the onlookers' ) : As for the other announcements... So I can understand folks being disappointed at that being the only announcement of note (I would have appreciated something from Caramel Box). Still, I can say we're at least getting a nukige with a good plot (for a nukige). Here's my review of the game if anyone's interested (though I should point out there are minor spoilers concerning a couple characters' development (though I did try to keep things vague) so read at your own risk): http://gamesforadultsandeveryone.blogspot.com/2012/10/import-games-for-adults-kyonyuu-fantasy.html Edit: And yes, I admit the title "Funbag Fantasy" is ridiculous. Even my half joking translation guess of "Boobie Fantasy" would have sounded better -
Well I've reviewed both Cho Dengeki Stryker and Aoishiro, so here are my thoughts on them: http://gamesforadultsandeveryone.blogspot.com/2015/04/games-for-adults-and-everyone-cho.html http://gamesforadultsandeveryone.blogspot.com/2012/10/playable-import-games-for-everyone-aoi.html Of the two I'd favor Cho Dengeki Stryker more since the characters are more enjoyable.

Currently on chapter 16 of Princess Evangile. For some reason I can't help but wonder who has a greater fear of fire: Masaya or The Hound? Also started the route path for the harem route for Kyonyuu Fantasy 2 if. Should be interesting to see how this is going to differ from the events of the other route path...which I hope isn't as disappointing.

My top 5 hopes/wishes for the new partner: Waffle (with the game being Kyonyuu Fantasy) light Eushully Atelier Kaguya Akabesoft2 (though I admit I'm more interested in the Akatsuki Works' library) As for what the other 5 could be, my guesses: 1) Something from Lilith, hopefully a Taimanin game. 2) Something from Caramel Box (possibly Uhou Renka, if they want a nukige) 3) Something from Circus or Moonstone 4) Either Maggot Baits or Ero Manga! 5) Something from Softhouse Seal Other possibilities, but not likely: 1) Shuffle Essence+ as a "Surprise! We haven't burned bridges with Navel after all" announcement. 2) MA☆KO HUNTER 3) Pianissimo or Caucasus 4) Something from Propeller (let's hope they don't dump Sougeki no Jaeger on us) 5) Something from Noesis 6) Green Green remake

What makes a good Villain?
BookwormOtaku replied to Black Sands Entertainment's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I admit to me one of the better portrayals of an "evil for evil's sake" villain is Kotomine from Fate/Stay Night; it impressed me so much I even wrote a character analysis on him for a contest for a gaming site and it won. Sadly the site (Blistered Thumbs) is no more, but I do have the original piece on my blog here since the judges needed a link to read from. http://gamesforadultsandeveryone.blogspot.com/2012/12/characters-with-character-kirei-kotomine.html -
What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
BookwormOtaku replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
Here's my review of the first game, if you like: http://gamesforadultsandeveryone.blogspot.com/2014/10/games-for-everyone-halloween-xblaze.html Have yet to play the second game, though that's mainly because I've got so many other games to play first. -
What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
BookwormOtaku replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
Been playing and enjoying Dark Souls 3, though I'm at a bit of a standstill at the undead village since both pathways are so far impassible with one having someone shooting missiles at a certain point and the other one has a gateway full of bomb chuckers. Also both my middle fingers to Mad Phantoms Also just started playing Senran Kagura Estival Versus and loving it. The graphics are great and the characters are as likable as ever. Stopping to watch the prequel OVA just so I'll get what they keep referring to. -
Well, it's not like the original game's story mode, but there is some story with certain battles so far.
-
Taking Melty Blood Actress Again Currect Code for a spin and playing as Shiki first in Arcade/Story Mode. Really enjoying it so far.

Tokyo Babel

Taking Tokyo Babel for a spin and really liking it so far. The beginning did a good job pulling me in and the comedy is not only really good but it's strange how it never seems at odds with the rest of the story. Can't wait to see what direction this goes. BTW, anyone else thinking of Tieria from Gundam 00 when Setsuna speaks?

Agobarrier, the writer of shuffle Passed away
BookwormOtaku replied to Kawasumi's topic in Visual Novel Talk
As I've stated before I enjoyed Shuffle! for what it was: a simple moege that had a likable enough cast of characters. It was good enough to be entertaining and I hope the guy got to enjoy at least some recognition for it. His creation may not have been gold or even silver standard, but if you ask me there's nothing wrong with bronze. May he rest in peace. -
If this means MG and Navel have broken things off I'll gladly be another of the few to consider it bad news. Soul Link I found to be an enjoyable little scifi story and Shuffle! I'm willing to defend as being good for a simple moege. It's no classic, but I was entertained. Still, I can't help but wonder about this announcement. I mean nothing in it seems to hint at things turning sour between the two companies, and isn't it a little strange that only these two are going away and the FDs which have kind of an important connection to one of them are staying? Not to mention both of these games have expanded editions, one of which has been heavily requested, plus both of these expanded releases did originally start out as nonero console ports, and there's still this hint from not too long ago... Could I be grasping at straws here? Sure, but I can't help but be a bit suspicious

If a good machine translator ever is made I wonder how long it'll take for it to go HAL 9000/Skynet/Ultron on us for mainly using it to translate porn

Finished chapter 7 of Princess Evangile and once again I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this chapter. I swear Konomi's like an adorable Michiru... let's just hope whenever that fandisk releases she'll have a better route than Michiru Anyway from sidenotes: 1) In light of Ayaka's pick for additional learning material, did anyone else think "Could have been worse, she could have picked 50 Shades of Gray" ? (though considering how hilariously badly written that book is, Konomi reading that out loud may have been even funnier ) 2) Maybe it's just because I'm also working on finishing Tsujidou-san no Virgin Road at the moment, but it's kind of weird that Ayaka talks the same way as Azusa.

Has anyone played Sunrider: Liberation Day
BookwormOtaku replied to solidbatman's topic in Visual Novel Talk
So does that make this the VN equivalent of the Mass Effect 3 debacle? -
Just remembered another that's available in english, if you don't mind yaoi there's No, Thank You!!
-
Well, MinDead Blood and its fandisk kind of have what you want, though it features more in the FD than the main game. If you want something in english there's the Rance games. Suzukuri Dragon could have what you want, but I haven't played it only heard of it.

Cleared chapter 6 of PE, and I'm surprised to see it was better than the last one. Some genuinely funny scene and good character moments and interactions. I especially that quieter scene of Masaya, Ritsuko and Ayaka going back to the school. I'm starting to be cautiously optimistic about the next chapter. On a side note, anyone else besides me jokingly wonder if Masaya's related to this guy every time you hear his surname (it's even written the same way )?: https://vndb.org/c3864
-
So has anyone else preordered the game? I'll admit I did, mainly because worst case scenario I can make fun of the engrish whenever I end up reviewing it
-
Okay, cleared chapter 5 of PE and I can say this is a chapter I wholly enjoyed reading. The jokes were finally consistently funny and it finally feels like the game's taking advantage of having a large cast by giving us some good character interactions.
