  1. Well part of this issue is licensing. The content from the console port doesn't belong exclusively to the original company, it also belongs to the company who publishes the game for the console (eroge companies generally don't have much money compared to so they need to turn to these guys for an all ages port) then there's also the voice acting which is tied to the studios and they can be pricey too.
  2. Pretty much, while Lute is a bit of a perv that isn't his only defining character trait, for instance one thing that surprises alot of the characters as they get to know him is how he doesn't hold grudges and is willing to work with them for the greater good.
  3. The series Funbag/Kyonyuu series does indeed have a good plot to it from political intrigue to character arcs even for side characters. As the series goes on it even does pretty well at world building: the upcoming sequel better establishes the AU Europe setting, the second numbered game in the series (and its remake) give us a look at that universe's version of Britain, and the third numbered game and its upcoming remake create an interesting alternate history take on ancient Rome and how at least the Greek/Roman pantheon of deities fits into the world. The series handling of routes though is different from your typical VN though. The canon ending is the harem route, Roxanne and Luceria really only have endings as opposed to routes, though what amounts to Isis and Shamsiel's route paths are more an alternate storyline that I would recommend reading as it provides some interesting background and lore. The character arcs are usually divided into chapters for the main story, even moreso in future games. As for the ero content, yes there is a good deal but its generally well balanced with the plot (it does get a little ero heavy when the focus turns to Luceria but there is a story reason that kind of justifies it). The haremfest content is mainly epilogue content after the game's story is for all intents and purposes finished.
  4. You kind of have that in Ayakashibito with Kaoru, keyword is "kind of" though. In Princess Evangile there's Ritsuko, though I still need to finish her route then move on to the FD. In Princess Waltz most of the heroines start out as enemies/rivals of Sorata and Chris. Ditto for the recently released Eiyuu Senki. In Chou Dengeki Stryker you kind of have that with Hilko and Clie. In Utawarerumono Touka is pretty set on killing Hakuoro in the arc that introduces her. In Funbag/Kyonyuu Fantasy the game's second best heroine Gladys starts out as an enemy for Lute (sort of) and until a certain point in either her route and the canon route his relationship with Isis is pretty antagonistic (on her side). The upcoming sequel has that with both of its new heroines, and should MG localize the rest of the series each game (aside from the recent entry in Lute's storyline) has a heroine that fits the bill. Majikoi S kind of has that with Kokoro. If you don't mind otome games (and have a Vita or PS TV) Norn9 has a role reversal of that with Mikoto's canon love interest Natsuhiko and to some extent with Nanami and Akito.
  5. There's Quartett! https://vndb.org/v82
  6. Da Capo 2 has Otome and she is the canon heroine Crescendo has Ayame We Love Master! has Ema
  7. I'm just curious if we're all going to collectively agree this anime doesn't exist once it's finished
  8. I'm still playing Marie's route and am enjoying the game still. I will admit Dies Irae does have some flaws like there are some parts that feel like a slog to read (looking at your start of Kei's route), but it makes up for that on many fronts from good action, character dialogue and voice acting (seriously, the guy who plays Bei should win some kind of voice acting award for portraying such an over the top yet menacing villain). On a side note:
  9. So looking forward to playing this, especially since it's about time we got an 18+ otome game
  10. Okay, when it comes it comes to starting differently Marie's route sure takes the cake. I did not expect this to be the start of Ren's POV
  11. That reminds me of when I described C;H to my brother and said Takumi makes Shinji Ikari from Evangelion look like a bad ass. On my end I've finished the second of the side stories for Dies Irae, which was actually better than I expected in how it showed how certain characters met and ended at the right moment where I was worried it was going to show too much. Now to finish the third one (which I can't help but feel is unnecessary so far as it's introducing several new characters and seems to expect me to have some investment in them right out the gate plus there's nothing so far that isn't convincing me this backstory regarding a certain pair needed to be told like this) so I can finally get back to the main story and see how Marie's route is. Edit: Okay, I'm at the action part of the sidestory and it's definitely gotten better here if only because of the character banter in the battles (especially Rusalka's)
  12. Well, you can at least say they're doing a good job taking Jast's place
  13. Finished Kei's route in Dies Irae...and (once it moved past the 'seen it before' parts at the start (which considering the overarching theme of this game makes me wonder if that was intentional) it was really good, it actually gave Kei some character depth and an arc which she noticeably lacked in Kasumi's route, the fights were really cool (though the last one did start to drag a little) and much to my surprise...the ending didn't suck. Considering how people kept complaining about it being a non-ending or unsatisfying I was expecting a cliffhanger or for the story to just suddenly stop but... Now...I have to read two sidestories before moving on with the main one . Maybe these will be better than Wehrwolf which aside from the bit with Shirou and Ellie just felt like the kind of deleted scenes for a movie where you don't really feel like anything was lost with their removal
  14. Keeping my fingers crossed for Sengoku Koihime, though my jaw will hit the floor if they somehow managed to sweet talk Baseson into letting them translate the first Kakumei game. As for what else I'd like to see: Evolimit or Bullet Butlers from Propeller Hadaka no Ou-sama, Maki-chan to Now, or Mankitsu Happening from Waffle Ero Manga! or Ero Goods! from Clock Up Pianissimo or Caucasus from Innocent Grey Anything from Caramel Box Beat Angel Escalayer Reboot from Alice Soft
  15. Okay, pretty much finished Chiho's route in PE and...I can see why this one got so much flack. I don't consider it a bad route, but it has some serious structure problems, from the plot punting of a certain major event to the Sports Festival to the fact that we still had two more chapters to read after the route's climax; the conflict for that just not being as interesting or exciting as before. Now moving on to Ritsuko's route, the route everyone seemed to like, and I really hope I'm not disappointed. On a side note, does anyone else wish Chapter 24's conflict with a certain character had ended like this?
  16. Playing Dies Irae and have started playing Kei's route...honestly kind of disappointed so far. The intro for a certain new character was really well done and it seemed things were setting up to get real and then...it seems to be following the same track as Kasumi's route, heck I've already run into a design pet peeve of mine with some VNs: where the dialogue for a scene is 99% the same as before with that 1% being new dialogue but because of that small bit the skip function doesn't work for that scene Also playing Princess Evangile and working on beating Chiho's route...and I couldn't help but laugh at how the route contradicts itself writing-wise in its plot set up: On a side note, hey Chiho's father's VA is the same VA for Felzen from the KF series.
  17. Finished Kasumi's route and it was decent, if a little too long. Will say the epilogue kind of reminded me of the endings you'd get in Blazblue that weren't the true endings...and yes I realize that sounds like I'm stating the obvious there, but the similarity isn't necessarily that. There's just something about the dialogue and imagery used that kind of remind me of it, heck when I first saw the game's opening I couldn't help but be reminded of this: One last comment I have regarding the ending though is this:
  18. One more week till my next paycheck and then I'm preordering, and this gives me just enough time to actually beat the first game...that is if Utawarerumono 2 and Dies Irae don't take up more game time than expected
  19. Well, might as well make my wishes for each company: Mangagamer: Who I hope the new partner is: Eushully, though if it's another nukige studio then I hope its Atelier Kaguya What I hope the other three could be: Evolimit or Bullet Butlers from Propeller Sengoku Koihime from Baseson (I'd hope for the Shin Koihime Kakumei games since it would make sense to skip over the original Shin due to its age, but since it's not out yet...) Pianissimo or Caucasus from Innocent Grey Da Capo 3 Platinum Partner Anything from Caramel Box Maki-chan to Now, Mankitsu Happening or Hadaka no Ou-sama from Waffle (if you're asking why there's no KF games, it's because I seriously doubt they'd announce another game in the series this year) Ero Manga! from Clock Up Anything from Black Lilith Sekai Project: Anything from Akatsuki Works Jast: I'm just curious if they're going to release anything Front Wing: The Djibril games...only because I want to see if they'd actually do that
  20. My impressions from what I've played so far, basically it's decent. I like that characters so far and I can appreciate it trying to be different from the original trilogy, but for me the biggest issue is Andromeda is really easy to put down in favor of another game. There just isn't that much sense of urgency or even that what I'm doing matters that much. I've made two planets 100% viable for colonization and the game so far seems barely aware of it and the sidequests that have some moral choice at the end don't seem to matter either. Also there's that murder mystery sidequest with the face palm worthy outcome. I'll get back to Andromeda eventually though (maybe when there's story DLC).
  21. Getting caught up on One Piece using the One Pace fan edit for Dressrosa...and while I like alot of what's happening this whole arc has so far been a pretty good example of the term "Blue Balls". The story's building up so many things that are interesting, but I'm wondering when something's actually going to start moving forward, most recent example for me is Usopp's Han Solo moment (which kind of feels like a repeat of the scene leading to his fight way back in Arlong Park) where just once the fight starts it's time for another character's flashback. Edit: Never mind that point after the flashback and to my surprise the part where my One Pace episodes ended and I just went back to regular episodes (686) has so far been a good point to do that. Better opening even in Hard Knock Days, and best of all, there's no part where the music's interrupted (much as I like Akio Otsuka, not even he could make Blackbeard's Saturday morning cartoon villain part of that previous OP not annoying)
  22. I'm definitely interested, but the main problem for me currently (and why I haven't been able to make many new reviews) is my current job situation (work night shift, company changing owners and searching for possible alternatives) and living situation (looking for a new place). Hopefully at least half of this will be sorted out in July and I can make time to play/finish more VNs
  23. Well here's who I hope it could be (never thought I'd see the day my wishlist would be this short): 1) Eushully (for obvious reasons) 2) Atelier Kaguya (if MG were to approach any other nukige makers, these guys at least produce decent quality nukige with a decent enough plot, though I'm mainly speaking from my experience with their older titles and haven't played any of their newer games) 3) onamatope* (yeah I know about Libra, but seeing as Mikandi haven't said anything about other games from this company's library it's possible. I've heard good things about their Mecha-con games and am currently playing Monomono so I wouldn't mind seeing that or any others in that series get localized) 4) Clochette (mainly because I've heard good things about their games) 5) Akatasuki Works (not likely seeing as Akabesoft seems to want to do their own thing, but if say RuiTomo or Hello, Lady! were announced I would be very happy with that)
