  1. Welcome~~ Seeing as you have only read a All age game so far I will reccommend a few all ages vn's. Ever 17, Steins;gate and Umineko no Naku Koro ni These are all mystery genre and on PC. So you might need to change your system Locale many jp vn's have problems running if you don't have your pc configured to japanese system locale.
  2. I liked KiraKira alot more than Deardrops tbh. Maybe it's because Kira was my 3rd vn, while Deardrops was my 28th or something. Don't misunderstand me though, deardrops is a good vn and I enjoyed it. Just that Kira is better imo :< Ef.... Still suprises me over how highly it is ranked and how the characters did not click with me at all. Also the story I felt was so obvious what would happen next. I did manage to complete it in the end. But as you said, It was a disappointment. A vn that does not fit my personallity it seems.
  3. Don't worry too much about your speed, you will become faster after a reasonablely short while. You will stop checking all the words in a sentence and reading kanas require no effort. Good luck!
  4. Signed up as well. This will be interesting
  5. Watching Monogatari season 2, it's some really good stuff imo. I really love it.
  6. Finished Akatsuki no goei, Tsuki's route. It was heart choking ha ha ha. It's a good vn. I will read some of the other routes later. 8.5/10 in score imo, I wonder if the other routes are better hmm.. Currently starting on Eden* They were only two, on the planet. I was plenty annoyed with trying to get it to install. I had to put the crack patch in xp sp 3 compabillity mode for it to work. Grrrr!!! Oh well it works now.
  7. So random resources you might find useful sometime. A classic vn hacker guide. http://proger.i-forge.net/Stage_Once_-_a_Visual_Novel_hacking_tutorial/IPD Aaeru as blogged about it before tho. A random Faq I found, some interesting things in there acutally. Like where to download, FTP's (haven't tired FTP's yet though): http://pastebin.com/6D07qnC6
  8. According to TLwiki the size is: 54315 lines and 2.37 mb. No idea how accurate tlwiki is for this spesific vn, but I am guessing it's somewhere around that size. http://tlwiki.org/index.php?title=VN/Eroge_Scriptsizes

  10. Welcome~~
  11. vndb has a massive list over vn's and translation links. Made a filter for you with chinese language only. http://vndb.org/v/all?q=;fil=tagspoil-0.lang-zh;o=d;s=rating If you pick a random vn from there it has a link on the buttom to the translation site. There you should find the patch. The game you will prbly need to find somewhere else. Btw I do not know which of the vn's got simplified chinese or not. So I would recommend looking around some.
  12. I am feeling I will maybe spoil Konakana greatness by a lack of my reading skills. Gehhh... Oh well, I will give it a try after Eden*
  13. I am glad you posted this list. I am wondering what to read next. I am currently reading Akatsuki no Goe in jp. Either I will read the sequel afterwards, but that's unlikely because it's alot longer.. Or I will read another vn. I am currently learning japanese, so I prefer to be rather careful with choosing my vn's. -I want a vn that's not too long (8-20 hours at normal reading speed) -not too advanced language ( Not lots of uncommon words and terms, that JParser will prbly have problems with. Re:birth colony -Lost azurite- for example had so many hacker and computer terms it was just horrible to keep with what was going on.) -Focused on story rather than moe stuff (Example: My girlfriend is the President) On your list I am interested in these titles: (Most interested in Eden*) Eden* Konata yori Kanata made Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba Do you think they would fit me Clephas?
  14. Welcome back Meru~~ Remember to not only eat ramen and rice in Japan. I am pretty sure that is not healthy... xD
  15. My top four qualities is: 1. Awesome protagonist 2. Funny gags etc 3. Story centered (Not focus on moe stuff, yeah...) 4. Has a deeper meaning or a makes you see the world in a different way 5. Enjoyble characters Yes I cheated and added a 5th one! moahhaha! ;3
  16. I've so far been reading vn's for 2 years. This is my list of my top 15. ^^ 1 Muv-Luv Alternative 2 Rewrite 3 Steins;Gate 4 Cross†Channel 5 Clannad 6 Ever17 -the out of infinity- 7 G-senjou no Maou 8 Little Busters! 9 Symphonic Rain 10 Utawarerumono 11 Dangan Ronpa Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei 12 Eien no Aselia -The Spirit of Eternity Sword- 13 Higurashi no Naku Koro ni 14 Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai 15 Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo
  17. Welcome to the VN brotherhood!~~
  18. Well depends on what you consider reading japnese I read using listening, reading, then dictionaries, then my last resort Atlas if I can't understand it at all. (Or if there is long periods without audio speaking. Long monologues reading all the kanji can drive you mad man!) I have completed the grand route of mekyuu now, aka yuji's story. It's around half the length of the common route in Kajitsu. (somewhat short yes, compared to Kajitsu) I used around 30 hours on mekyuu and around 12 hours on Kajitsu common route I would imagine. So I read aroud 6 times slower than I usually do.. haha.... I read usually rather fast in english. Mostly tho, I read at around their speaking speed most often. Other times it takes minutes to understand 2 lines of text. On the other hand I did acutally understand everything in story in the end. Just a few times I didn't understand the details, around 5%. I just couldn't wrap my head around some sentences. Also this post is a celebration to myself yaayy. This is the first route I have completed reading without a english translation! It was suprisingly mostly as enjoyble as reading a normal vn in translated english. I prbly didn't drop out in the middle in the vn because. 1. Because Meikyuu is a sequel, I wanted to read so bad. (motivation) 2. Mostly understandble language.(less time use) 3. The route is short, around 6-8 hours normally. (ease) 4. It has a progression bar.... The progression bar actually made me see progress in my reading, what otherwise could have been felt like an eternal story. Currently I am at a bit of a loss tho. Meikyuu ended at a cliffhanger.. So either I try reading the sequel, which is two times longer than yuji route in Meikyuu. Or I read the all the after stories in Meikyuu, or I find a new novel to read... I will likely take a break and read something else. Btw Stanleys, if a half-assed person like me can manage to learn jp slowly and read jp vn's. So can anyone else. Cheers!
  19. Genius use of the tag system there Steve. I am impressed again xD And yes I think this is a good system. Name prbly aside.
  20. I think lolis, newcomers guide and reccomendation guide/ thread are all good ideas. They target different experienced people. I think we should try and get all of them. Though lolis might be abit too much work. -So newcomer guide, with a few vn's let's say no more than 5. They should very good and hook new players. -A reccommendation thread like Kaguya's but with genres and fewer vn's? Around 20 in total? This is for people who have played a few vn's already. -Let's keep the random threads people make asking about a vn reccommendation. I think those are good, even if the same vn's are being reccommened often.
  21. Personally I think we should take a few vn's from each genre. We should have some a few very good ones each because too many would make it messy. As for different genres is because people like different things. I think the first vn someone plays should be something they already enjoy. Possibly not something new. What is the main focus (genre) in the vn? Mystery, moe, characters, action etc. They should start reading "My girlfriend is the PRESIDENT" if they don't like moe. They should read something else. It's not a bad vn, just not good as the first one. We prbly should mix some all-ages and eroges together? Tag them? Other section for them? Steins;gate example is a good vn for someone new, it has science fiction, characters, story, all-ages, mystery. (the patch is abit buggy tho..) As for untranslated vn's. People who are new to vn's prbly ain't going to start playing untranslated vn's from the start. That's more for people who have played a few. But yeah, a good guide about untransled vn's would be very nice. I agree because I read untranslated ones, still learing jp tho...
  22. I am not so confident in my writing skills, so I'll let other decide if I do write something. Still this does sound very interesting!
  23. I like that vn's because they have pictures, music and auto scrolling text or button pressing. Takes alot of the effort out of the reading. I don't need to visualise much, I don't need to move at all. It's a long and artful anime I can choose the reading speed of. There are few things better than laying down in my sofa after a days work, drinking a cold drink. I don't even notice the hours pass by haha. It's my little eden.
  24. Welcome Brother!
