I liked the first half of Chaos;Head for the same reasons, but it went downhill later on and I didn't enjoy it as much later on. Cross Channel is a really good read, although it's not a mystery. It's kind of a psychological thriller, but isn't not that much of a thriller. Basically it's just psycho.

I was thrown off by him mentioning Higurashi but not mentioning Umineko at all. Cut me some slack - I've been spamming all day. xD

Higurashi isn't much of a mystery though, it's more thriller/psychological horror. I haven't read the VNs you've listed, but you should try Umineko no Naku Koro ni, which is made by the same people as Higurashi, and it's a real mystery VN. Don't watch the anime though - it doesn't hold a candle to the original VN. Whoops, you've already read it.

Well, Fate/Stay Night is kind of similar in that there's a lot of combat, although it's fantasy unlike Muv-Luv. It is a Type-Moon game though, so if you read FS/N you'll be killing two birds with one stone. As for mecha VNs, I'm pretty sure Muv-Luv is far and away the best one that has been translated, so you'll probably have to wait for Baldr Sky to be translated if you want mecha.

I haven't seen it but the anime is generally considered to be terrible compared to the VN. And not everyone, I didn't mind it too much from the very start.

If you like Slice of Life, there's a ton of that: Clannad, Little Busters, Katawa Shoujo, Grisaia no Kajitsu, and Symphonic Rain. If you want something Sci-fi try Steins;Gate and Ever17. For chuuni there's Fate/Stay Night and for mecha there's the Muv-Luv trilogy. If you want more of a thriller/horror, try Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Saya no Uta. And just a few others that I won't both putting in their own categories: Umineko no Naku Koro ni, Sharin no Kuni, and G-Senjou no Maou.
