I don't think I've ever purposely done it, but when playing Kanon and Clannad (both of which I played without voices so I didn't hear them referring to me as Tomoya or Yuuichi) I used my real name, and it really did sort of feel like I was part of the story.

Yep! I made sure to change the settings so that I automatically follow any topic I post in. It was a bit weird after the post-Fuwapocalypse influx of members, when I woke up the next day and had nearly 100 notifications because of all the introduction threads I posted in, though.

It looks fine right now, but I think it'll look worse as soon as there's a birthday under it.

Seconding Grisaia no Kajitsu, Sharin no Kuni and G-Senjou no Maou. You might also enjoy Deardrops, although the protag isn't as great as the ones from the other 3 games, as far as I remember.

I think it's fine the way it is, but making a separate subforum for suggestions doesn't sound like too bad of an idea. But shoving them all into one thread seems pretty stupid. I certainly refer people to Kaguya's list, but I also try to take into account what the person has already read and give them a couple of suggestions based on that. And then a discussion can start about those suggestions, so if multiple discussions about suggestions for multiple people start going on in a single thread it'll get really messy, really quickly.
