    Can you read Japanese?
  2. Welcome! Have a favorite VN?
  3. Welcome! Translation is awesome! Tell us a little more about your current project and how it's going!
  4. Check out this interview with Qberty. Omega's got some pretty exciting VNDS functionality.
  5. I'm using Tae Kim's guide right now, too. It's so good! Are you liking it? The publication of Katawa Shoujo (full version) is probably the most important event on this planet since LUCA got its self-replicating machinery running. I assume you liked it? Have a favorite heroine, or memory?
  6. Welcome!
  7. Welcome! How do you feel about VNs? Have any favorites? Playing anything atm?
  8. Welcome! Translators are rare commodities -- it's great that you're here. Please consider adding your credentials to the skills registry (so interested parties can find you), and surfing the Fan Translation board for projects! EDIT: You already did so! Didn't think to check!
  9. Hm. This is one of those topics that keeps coming up. Since I've written extensively on this subject in other threads, and I don't want to start boring people, I'll try to vary my usual answer and make it a little edgier: I suspect that -- upon extensive philosophical debate -- a person would ultimately reach the conclusion that there's no such thing as existence "visual novels" in any singular sense. Instead, there are "visual novel elements", or an amalgam of traditional elements.. The games listed (and many more) (including, if I want to be controversial, games like Dear Esther) have elements of Visual Novels, but vary in the incorporation of other game- and narrative-elements. Final controversial suspicion -- I suspect (deep down) that visual novels as we know them today will likely never fully catch on in the west. I do, however, expect VN elements to pervade most genres and types of video games. Off topic: Also, I suspect the "final victory" of VNs in the west may be a dedicated genre/product category listing on Amazon.com sites accessible from the main "book" drop-down menu.

English subs of varying quality, but all decent enough.

If anyone is looking to manipulate their own emotions and get "in the Pokezone", I suggest watching the new Pokemon Origin series. Here's a link: http://www.animefreak.tv/watch/pokemon-origin-online (4 episodes, 21m each)

Awesome! I'm going with Chespin and then Ah, man! I thought they were doing a worldwide launch for all supported locations. No such luck, huh?

    Pokemon X/Y

It's releasing here in a few hours (and I've got my #9-in-line reserved spot ticket). Anybody else planning on getting it? Decided on a starter yet?

  15. Hey all, Just want us to remember that any major improvements such as the LOLIS system is still theoretical, and even if implemented in some form, are "a long ways off." The discussion is fantastic, however, and I highly suggest you continue with it. If you are able to contribute in a technical (read: coding) form -- see Nayleen's Dev Blog for information on the site's systems -- please let us know.
  16. Pushin' it. Katawa Shoujo: *drops the mic* Fate/Stay Night: The Hero's Dilemma (It's not easy to be me)
  17. Is that all the AB content? Was this all a big ploy? Coming out in Feb?
  18. Welcome! Glad you decided to introduce yourself. Playing any VNs currently?
  19. We do not provide tech support for the IMHHW patch in this forum. Please report problems in this thread: https://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/1461-kono-oozora-h-scenes-porting-project/
  20. I spent ~5 minutes trying to come up with a good title for this post. It never came. Instead, I decided to call it exactly what it is: I had an interesting dream about visual novels and video games which featured two friends from the forum. Yes, feel free to call it creepy. But it was also a very interesting conversation. For those interested in the details, see the spoiler below. Otherwise, feel free to share your thoughts on the exchange: Completely unimportant dream details: Conversation Points: As we discussed visual novels, Batman made the point, "I treat visual novels like any other video game genre. I see them less as books, and more like video games." Nayleen inquired about that line of thinking, asking if Batman enjoyed VNs with gameplay elements more than "conventional" (text-only) VNs. Batman said he'd never played a VN with gameplay, but that he imagined the combination would be "ideal". At this point, I got "deep" and threw out a hypothesis that perhaps video games are meant to be "experiences", whereas visual novels tend to be "stories." In my head, I was arguing that video games and VNs offered two different types of immersion: VNs utilize text, music, and visuals; and Video Games layer gameplay and visual/technical technology on top of that. I don't remember much more than that. Back to reality... How about you? Do you see VNs more like "books", or "video games", or something in the middle? Are the experiences of VNs (text, music, visuals) better/worse/just different from the experiences you've had playing video games?
  21. You're so welcome! I loved FSN so much... I'm glad I was able to contribute. All the advise here has been good. As for me, I'd say there's only one major way to judge reading speed, and that's by asking the question, "Am I enjoying this?" So long as you're having fun and not stressing about the meta-processes of reading a VN, I think you're doing it just right.
  22. Finished Beyond: Two Souls today. I'd rate it a 7.5/10. It's one of those games, though, that despite the score really deserves to be played. I have plenty of criticisms, but overall I did enjoy it quite a bit, and highly recommend playing it. (Important to note that I redbox'd it, but plan on buying when price drops a little.)
  23. Happy Birthday, Aaron! And Maal! And Fallere!
