Hey everybody, I had a crazy idea just now. One that I think could be pretty fun and cool. Let's begin with this post by shirayuki75. In it, he comments on the very-interesting LB analysis by Isaac and comments that it's something one would expect to see in a VN literary journal. ... Then I started thinking: Maybe it would be fun to put one together! I've been editor on a handful of journals (though most were poetry journals), and I think it's a no-brainer that we have a lot of really interesting material here on the forums. Would anybody be interested in helping compile (or write anew!) interesting content and/or design the first-ever Fuwanovel Forums Literary Journal, Volume I (title a work-in-progress )? If not... No problem. Just seemed like a fun project we could do. I think we could have a good time with it. Let me know in the poll above, or by responding to this thread!

From everything I've read, Nayleen and shcboomer hit it on the head. Most VN publishers see very little incentive to license due to perceived low demand abroad. The up-front, high licensing fees are equal parts barriers and security deposits. On top of that, as shcboomer added, translations are fickle beasts and can make or break source material. Many VN companies were scarred by their own attempts to translate/distribute early on, and are hesitant to experiment. In my opinion, that's why the official Planetarian iOS app and MoeNovel's "If My Heart Had Wings" localization are so significant: we're finally seeing some experimentation. This is progress of the best kind. Sadly, though, if an iOS build of Planetarian is as risky as it gets, I'd be surprised to see the AB VN getting Western treatment any time soon.

I'm not a fan of H-scenes, either. Luckily, there's a lot of great all-ages VNs out there. Additionally, many western-made VNs (OELVNs) like Katawa Shoujo are starting to have options to turn off the adult content. There's plenty of options out there -- it just takes a little looking!

Welcome! If you're looking for a few classic VNs along those interests, I'd recommend Katawa Shoujo, Planetarian, or the other suggestions made here. Poke around the front site -- there are a lot of good ones!
