Da Capo II was released by MangaGamer, I don't know which engine it used but I know all later titles by MangaGamer were on Unity and I think Da Capo was released before Doddler joined MangaGamer, though I am not sure, could be wrong though ... I know BGI holds the major files used in the VNs, that much I am certain of, if you can work with those BGI files then you already know how to extract and decompile all older MangaGamer titles (and maybe even newer VNs that are based on Unity if you know how Unity works) ... Though it's cool to know that but since those VNs are already translated I don't see much use of it except if some other purely Japanese VNs are in the same engine (sadly, from what I have seen, it seems MangaGamer is the only one that uses that engine that uses BGI files) ... From what I know, Kirikiri engine seems to be the best one for fan-translations, a bunch of Japanese VNs that use it have gotten translations, I intend to learn how to work with it first since I believe it's the most simple of the engines out there though I didn't really try fiddling with it as of yet ^^ ...
-
Hello Welcome to Fuwa and by the way, since you are a computer science student and like to take apart pieces of software, you might be good at hacking the engines for visual novels It's a skill that is always needed when doing fan-translations, there is no fan-translation without hacked engine, I am sure you know of this too You mentioned how you don't know whether you would be of any help but I think you could be of great help Though I don't know whether in your statement you've meant that you don't have experience in Japanese translating or hacking VN software engine. I think there's less hackers than translators out there so you could be of great use if you could discover how the engine works and how to put translations in.
-
I'm interested in this too, I saw many VNs that used Kirikiri engine fan-translated, there must be an explanation somewhere on this forum how to do it.

Welcome to Fuwa and good luck

Can't find H Code, AGTH and ITH displaying weird symbols
Infernoplex replied to guival's topic in Voluntary Tech Support
You are trying to play this VN. I see it's relatively new, maybe it's not supported by text hookers just yet? Edit: Try changing your locale to Japanese if you haven't already and try setting date and time format also to japanese in your regional settings (that's how I fixed the scrambled text in some VNs though it wasn't the problem on text hookers but on the main japanese display) -
Well, what can I say, mostly all good titles were already mentioned in this thread ... So I will just list some of the VNs that weren't already mentioned here that I would personally buy if they were to be localized right now: 1. Empress - Starless was already licensed by JAST, I'd personally like to see anything of these three: P/A ~Potential Ability~, Lewdness ~Vita Sexualis~ and DominancE, maybe even Closed Game because it looks so good, they all probably aren't on the level of Starless but I just admire that art and I am in love with Sei Shoujo's work since I have read Bible Black and I consider his work very good for femdom fetishers xD; 2. Studio Jaren - This developer doesn't have any translated VN by them, not licensed nor fan-translated which kind of surprised me because it's very good hypnotism sex nukige with really good art, I would literally buy any of the Soushinjutsu titles (Soushinjutsu, Soushinjutsu 2, Soushinjutsu 3, Soushinjutsu Mobius, Soushinjutsu Rei, Soushinjutsu Gaiden), or anything else developed by them (the recently released Kyonyuu Hitozuma 3P Saimin looks stunning *_*), MangaGamer should try to talk them, it's quite nukigy and I don't remember seeing any translated hypnotism fetish VNs out there; 3. Fudageki Soft - I like the art in their VNs, I don't see often that kinf of art, I'd personally like to see either Wizard Links or Tsuboi-kun no Switch! localized (Tsuboi-kun looks like a very good shota VN, I am not sure how troublesome it would be to localize it xD); 4. Silky's Sakura - Ochite Iku Niizuma and Karizuma, both look stunning, and look like a good nukige; 5. Cattleya - I'd like to see this title Kayoinbo localized by them, or maybe even better these two: Porno Sakka Mayuka to and Kyouiku Mama to Oba to Oba; 6. OLE-M - More good nukige, MangaGamer should take a look at these guys xD; 7. Dieselmine & Dieselmine Mf - More hardcore nukige There are fan translations of some of the Okasare Yuusha VNs by Dargoth (I, II, III) but I consider the series so good I'd buy them localized from MangaGamer if they were to pick them up and officialy localize them and by they way they could do the rest in the series There are some other nukigy titles fan-translated from them like Seitenkan and they have a huge collection of short VNs that have decent art and are quite nukigy in nature. 8. TinkerBell - Where do I even start with them XD There are quite a few good nukiges by them, Harame, Doki Doki Oyako Lesson, Natsu Doki! Harem, Aneboku, Oshioki, Aru Kazoku no Kankeizu, Shukubo no Uzuki (I, II) and more ; 9. WendyBell - Cosplay Ecchi and Ore Maou! ; 10. Waffle - I am glad MangaGamer managed to make a partnership with them, Funbag Fantasy is coming in September and if it sells really well which I am expecting to happen, I hope to see even more Kyonyuu Fantasy 2, Kyonyuu Fantasy 2 if, Kyonyuu Fantasy 3, Kyonyuu Fantasy Gaiden, Kyonyuu Fantasy Gaiden 2 (a rare example of a long nukige VN, I think Starless is the longest nukige ever translated), but besides those there are quite a few good nukiges from them that they could localize if Funbag Fantasy proves to be profitable ; 11. Astronauts - Demonion (I, II) and possibly some other titles aswell xD; 12. Vanadis - Sei Monmusu Gakuen and several other titles aswell ; 13. Clock Up - MangaGamer has released euphoria and Eroge! from them, which I think that preety much everybody knows about them by now, and they are about to release Maggot Baits (I hope that it will come by the end of 2017), they also have a lot of other titles aswell like Ero Goods!, Ero Manga!, Please R*pe Me!, Kuro Ai and others; 14. Syangrila - Akatsuki no Goei series; 15. BaseSon - No need to name titles, just localize ALL OF THEM xD; 16. Pulltop - Princess Waltz is licensed and Koisuru Natsu no Last Resort has a fan-translation, they also have some other titles that in my opinion are worth localizing, if I were to pick one title in particular, it would probably be Cocoro@ Function though there are other good titles too; 17. Alice Soft - No need to name titles here, I hope the western market proves profitable for them and they let MangaGamer license more VNs from them; 18. Nitroplus - JAST, please license Muramasa and Tokyo Necro before 2030 xD; 19. Atelier Kaguya - Where to start from xD; 20. Black Cyc - I would like to see these two localized: Extravaganza and Gore Screaming Show (especially this one); 21. Saga Planets - No need to name titles; 22. La'cryma - No need to name titles; 23. Lump of Sugar - Everything by them is a lump of sugar xD; 24. Makura - Some preety good titles by them; 25. Tone Work's - Just localize everything, starting from Hoshi Ore Yume Mirai; And a lot more xD, I got carried away a little bit but it was fun crawling through all VNs that I bookmarked, I started learning Japanese in hopes of one day being able to at least read simple nukiges if not anything more than that ...
-
@Senri094I am also excited for all MangaGamer titles, they weren't like this back in 2008, 2009, their early VNs were all mostly bad translated and cheap nukiges, nowadays they are actually the best of the three major localization companies (other two being Sekai Project and JAST which are known for their abilities to piss of VN fans), they are annoucing and releasing higher quality VNs, even quality nukiges like Funbag Fantasy that is coming soon ... And amongst those titles that you didn't read, it's I/O probably the first one that I would recommend (and besides, that is the only high quality VN that I have actually read and so far, it is my favourite) ... Though I d like to warn you that it is a preety long VN, especially if you are a slow reader like me (it took me around 55 hours, yes, I know, quite a lot of time xD) ...
-
I don't know if I should say this but ... I read it all ... that entire 4chan thread xD ... Yes, that's how I waste my time sometimes though I must admit I had a laugh at some comments xD As for the VN itself, everything was already said on here why it didn't sell well ... Personally, by the looks of it, it isn't something I would like to read Though I like the e-mote stuff ...
-
Hey, welcome to Fuwa By the way, I looked at your VNDB, you have read a lot of high-profile VNs already, preety much all of them are the highly ranked VNs I am afraid I will not be able to recommend you anything to read since you are already going through only the best

Nice review @Valmore, I agree with most of what you said but personally I didn't like this VN-RPG hybrid at all, I am not against "choose your waifu simulation", but this game literally killed it for me ... My major gripe with this game wasn't the voices or the setting or the art ... My major gripe with it was the boring RPG and battle system (and as you said, preety uninteresting "aliens") ... I played it for 3 hours and ditched it alltogether, at first I thought about completing at least one girl route but I decided against it, too much boring, I might have done it if it weren't for such a boring system in place, and I might be wrong but I remember that sometime ago I played a similiar "choose your waifu" simulation but it was far better than this game, it wasn't boring like this ... I could tolerate the voices, even the Cornelia's but I couldn't tolerate preety boring love points system and how you earned reputation with the girls by being a simple errand boy, I waited to see if something interesting is going to happen but no, even when you unlock the city, it's still boring, and the game doesn't even mention on which days you can't date the girls (I losed some "love points" because I didn't know that on some days you simply have no control over the character, that's when I unlocked the city, I losed the points because I took the so-called "quests" and didn't finish them on time) ... The combat system was preety much boring, and that "pay the girl" system got me laughing hard when I found out, preety retarded in my opinion, I am personally not against introducing gameplay elements to VNs but when they are bad like in this game, I'd rather prefer it if they stayed only in the VN genre xD ...This game isn't Rance and it isn't Aseila, I preety much hate it when they mix VNs with bad RPG elements or they implement it in the wrong way ... Oh, and what's up with those high numbers O_O I was confused why did they pick up such big numbers for items like for example "10000000" or "5000000", why all the zeroes for God's Sake O_O They could have just said "10" rocks or whatever the value ... All in all, preety boring game, I rate it 2/10 ... And preety much agree with @littleshogunon his statement.

10 Official Localized Visual Novel at 2000's
Infernoplex replied to littleshogun's topic in Recommendations
No need for additional explanation, I understand everything now And yeah, I forgot, they also released Yume Miru Kusuri, but I always think of it as a JAST release, but you are right, Peach Princess is the actual company that released it, now the VN is in JAST store I think, haven't played it yet but I do intend to do sometime in the future, right now I am still at one of those high sexual content VNs that were released in the 2000s, called Sensei 2, and after I finish that, I am either going to pick up "Let's Meow Meow" or perhaps "Come See Me Tonight 1" ... Since this is a thread about older VNs, I thought about mentioning this though I don't know if it is a right place to discuss about it but anyway ... I found that in technical terms, a bunch of these old VNs are a pain in the ass to read them xD I mean, I can look at the art (Background CGs, sprites, Event CGs, Sex CGs) of G-Collection's VNs just fine, there isn't any real abominations that I have encountered yet (which I can't say the same for YU-NO, you mentioned it in your post, that VN simply makes my eyes bleed) but what really bothered me with some of these VNs that I have read recently is that they are technically badly developed xD I have realised that newer VNs had much better design choices by introducing better font for text like MangaGamer did, or simply convenient UI interface which I liked very much ... There are some good VN examples out there, that simply look astonishing in the terms of design and technical choices, I am mentioning this because some of the VNs on your list are problematic to play ... You did mention the problems with Hirameki International VNs, their so called DVD format which is a real shame because I think I would have gladly played some of their VNs if they were in a normal PC format, even without H-scenes, some of these VNs look like they could have a decent plot ... But I would just like to mention for those that might be interested in playing some other VNs from the list, for example "Private Nurse" ... Now this VN has a real problem, it's a technical clusterfuck, I had problems with it and some of the unpleasant stuff simply couldn't be fixed due to its really old engine, for example, the BGM music used some kind of a special codec that was only available on older Windows OS, so you had to grab sime shady files of the net and put them into system directory and what-not, you also had, due to the rather old Securom DRM, to have the disc always put inside or mounted in order to hear the BGM playing ... and that's not all, I think at random times the sound was simply going on and off, looping problems and it made me quite annoyed really ... And there's more, this is one of those old VNs where you can't press "Enter" to go through text, you had to keep clicking on the mouse and it was always kind of slow to me ... So I tried fiddling in the settings, and even with auto-mode, I can't set it the way I want, it either goes to fast or to slow, so it was preety much badly designed ... Now somebody can say "well, it's an old VN, what did you expect?" - I know that, I didn't expect a masterpiece in technical terms at all but I think I should just mention it here, for those people who decide to embark on the adventure anyway, honestly, I like to read visual novels and I find it as an interesting entertainment but for those that started playing VNs with serious titles that had much better technical design, they might find these VNs rather hard to go through, and often they might think that these older VNs are just shit, not just because of the whole plot but mostly because of un-appealing technical design, bad UI interface, low resolution, bad translation or typos (which I have found that many of these VNs have to some degree), etc. ... I still have a lot of G-Collection VNs to go through, once I finish them off I will pickup better titles with much more pleasent technical choices ... Somebody might say that I just want to experience bad VNs so I can know how to apreciate the good VNs ... -
10 Official Localized Visual Novel at 2000's
Infernoplex replied to littleshogun's topic in Recommendations
Maybe it will seem like I am reposting but anyway, I decided to copy my message here too since it's relevant to the thread, and to give my opinion on the matter. 10. Private Nurse - Finished it already several months ago, it's one of those older bishoujo titles that are rather casual and peacuful, I quite frankly liked it in the sense that it wasn't boring as some other VNs I have read and it was generally a nice read but nothing to really grind my gears if you know what I mean, I actually enjoyed only Maria's route, Ayano's route was kind of mediocrish to me and nothing special overall, I gave it 6 on VNDB ... 9. Figures of Happiness (Shiawase no Katachi) - Played it twice, once in 2011 and in the beginning of 2016 ... Sadly, my opinion of it was better first time I have read it xD The second time I went through it I found it preety mediocrish, it actually had good premise, but some rather slow plot developments and overall slow pacing of it were kind of hard on me, and one of the two major heroines in it was so annoying I wanted to hit the monitor everytime she spoke ... And I had to go through mental torture there playing her route (Mio's route) first because you can't play the ending with the other heroine (Minamo) until finishing off that ... Considering that it's also the longest G-Collection game (30-50 hours), I found it quite boring at times but maybe it's just me, I don't know, sometimes I like comedy, sometimes I don't, this VN particularly didn't manage to interest me that much aside from some other interesting heroines and paths that were generally more interesting, and I rated it also a 6 on VNDB because at the end I did manage to find something I like though I would have liked it more if it wasn't that long, there was no need for so much slow-paced stuff and generally boring day-to-day conversations ... 8. Brave Soul - Tried playing it back in the day, I actually liked the concept of H-RPG, but in all honesty, this one didn't click for me, I dropped it soon after because of reasons and couldn't really play it any longer, there are some other far better looking H-RPGs released by JAST that I do plan to play ... 7. Hourglass of Summer - Oh, don't get me on this one, I tried these Hirameki International VNs back in 2013 I believe, it's not just that they cut H-content, it's also a pain in the ass to play these VNs, I think only Ever17 is the normal one amongst VNs licensed by them, all others have DVD type of playing which I disliked very much because of many reasons and so I dropped all of their titles, except Ever17 which I still didn't play and plan on doing it in the future (yeah, yeah, I know, it's going to be the best read ever, I can already sense that, that's why I saved it for later ^^) ... 6. Snow Sakura (Yukizakura) - This is the real deal I didn't put it on my VNDB that I have read it yet, this VN was my second VN that I have read, I have good memories of it, I want to play it for the second time and that's why I didn't put it on my VNDB yet because I want to remember everything about it and why I liked it back then, as a romance-the-girl type of VN it's in my opinion far better than Private Nurse and Figures of Happiness, I liked it very much and I think the heroines were all done well here ... 5. Princess Waltz - Haven't played this one yet, Peach Princess didn't release that many VNs, I remember that they released only this VN and some other racing type of VN, I intend to play all of them at some point in time, maybe when I finish all G-Collection stuff ... JAST now owns the rights to all G-Collection and Peach Princess Stuff (if I am not mistaken, these two were actually its subsidiaries) ... 4. Kazoku Keikaku (Family Project) - I haven't played this one and I am on my path to play it soon because I am now trying to clear all G-Collection VNs But I have heard only praise about it so I am guessing it's going to be a very good read ... 3. Crescendo - Also want to play it, I have heard only good stuff about it and I can't wait to go through it ... 2. Kana Imouto - Same like Crescendo, didn't play it yet but I have heard only good stuff about it ... 1. Phantom of Inferno - Another Hirameki International gem ... I actually were recommended this one and back then when I tried playing it, I had DVD problems and couldn't really get into it ... I think at the end somebody helped me fix the problem but still, the annoying DVD replaying format on PC just wasn't for me and I didn't like that way of presentation so I ditched it altogether, I know the VN is considered a masterpiece by Nitro+ but I simply can't play it like that, so I don't intend to bother with it, there are many others that work just fine without all the annoying DVD replaying stuff ... xD By the way, when you were making the list, did you go for VNs originally developed in the 2000s or you meant officialy localized in the 2000s? Some good VNs were released in the late 90s and then officialy localized in 2000s so that's why I am asking ... If someone wants to look for officially localized 2000s VNs, he just needs to browse the VNDB page of G-Collections and he would be on the right track xD Though there are several other VNs like Bible Black which weren't localized by G-Collections and were released by Kitty Media, they also belong to the 2000s (original Bible Black was released in 2000 I think and it was translated to English in 2006 or 2007 if I am not mistaken) ... Anyway, a good list overall, though I do believe some more titles should be up there, but that's just my opinion, there's many ways to create a "top 10 VNs of 2000s" xD -

@littleshogun Thank you, I checked that thread of yours ... 10. MSSiaC was rather boring, it's the second title translated by MangaGamer and in that time MangaGamer was quite bad with translations and wasn't that big as they are now, even as a nukige I found it quite unappealing to me, it's a VN originally developed by Liquid and I think Liquid got better only later, I was looking at some of their VNs after MSSiaC and they all look FAR BETTER than those first nukiges they were releasing that MangaGamer translated ... And Sensei 2 which I still didn't finish all routes (I have beaten 5/10 routes right now) feels kind of better than MSSiaC but is ultimately very much like MSSiaC and the art in it isn't very good since it's a rather old VN right now though I like the descriptions of the sex scenes, I think I would have liked it much more if it had better art, it actually has more real content unlike MSSiaC ... One of the best VNs that I liked actually feature a rapist protagonist (kind of) as well and I already mentioned the VN, it's Bible Black ... What I liked about this VN is that it has a lot of sex scenes + it has a relatively interesting plot (in my opinion, I know that many people still consider it a plotless nukige), I loved this VN for its art, it's one of those Sei Shoujo titles that are simply magnificant to look at, I played only two VNs by him, one was Bible Black and the other was Heartwork ... I didn't play Discipline and Starless yet but I know that I am going to love these two VNs already and I simply can't wait to get into these one as well as if God helps me with Japanese one day to play even some of the untranslated Sei Shoujo titles like Lewdness or DominancE *_* ... What I liked about Bible Black was that it had the option to go into two directions ... be either an evil rapist protagonist ... or be a punching bag and get fem-raped by sluts, oh man, I loved this VN back in the day, even today I play it from time to time to remind myself of its greatness Sadly the sequel to Bible Black was rather shitty, it was one of the worst VNs I have read, awful voice acting and the story overall was out of place and touch so I disliked it very much, real Bible Black was much better than this shitty sequel in my opinion. If you know of any good rapist protagonist nukiges, translated or not, please feel free to recommend me ^^ ... Oh, and the OST you sent is good, I didn't play Fata Morgana yet, I am going to play it much much later because right now I am into only older stuff, I want to finish it off before moving on ... -

Thanks everyone ... @akaritan I know about Saya no Uta and Fata Morgana already, they were preety much recommended everywhere, I know I will like them, but right now I am saving them for later, currently I am playing some older VNs, and I want to finish them before moving on, because I don't want to get used to better art and graphics, I have figured out that after playing some good looking VNs I have trouble looking at older stuff, for example, I tried the other day YU-NO and immediately stopped after an hour because I simply couldn't keep looking at it ... I believe that VN really is a masterpiece but I simply can't swallow that DOS-like interface and everything, that's why I am into playing mostly 2000s VNs, from G-Collections ... The last DOS-like VN I was able to swallow somehow was Divi-Dead and even then I couldn't bother to go through all the endings, I just read spoilers for it because I simply couldn't torture myself with it anymore ... I preety much know about all dark translated VNs, but right now I am making a catalog of untranslated ones which I am planning on trying to play in a year or two or three xD ... As for the text parser thingy, I didn't experiement much with those yet, I do have VNR installed and I did test it out on some VNs but it's preety much useless if you don't know Japanese at least Intermediate level, and machine translation sucks but I do intend to use those a lot once I get some real knowledge on Japanese, right now I am still at the beginner level, and my first goal is to grasp at least 500 kanji, just the meanings, the readings are a bit harder though because each of them has at least 2 different readings and its best to remember those through vocabulary and that's what I intend to do, it will take some time though, but I believe I have enough will to go through this endeavour xD -
Well, I don't have a habit of creating accounts on the forums around the net so here goes nothing xD ... Hello everyone!! Now, how should I introduce myself, me thinks ... I guess I should say that I am yet another Japanese Anime/Visual Novel/Manga fan (it seems the world can never get enough of those, it seems xD) and like many others, I too have lurked Fuwa for quite some time now xD The first time I saw this site was back in late 2012, early 2013 and looking at it now, it does look a lot different, both in style and spirit I think, but I like it nonetheless ... I have seen a lot of ill will directed towards Fuwa on the net when some changes were introduced, but was never really bothered with all of that, I always thought and still think about Fuwa as more of a Visual Novel Fans Community Hub rather than anything else ... I can only congratulate Tay and others for managing to run this community for so long and sailing against all the tides ... I have been following Visual Novels as a medium since at least 2010 when I played my first VN which was Bible Black and that's what initially got me interested in the medium ... I am also a casual anime fan and I also read manga from time to time but I think that visual novels is my favourite way of entertainment from Japan right now, I find them quite addictive and I always feel the need to finish them off once I start them, even nukige stuff, I just like the concept of them and everything, I don't consider them real games but as "novels" though with an interesting way of presentation Don't get me wrong, I like anime too, but it seems to me that I like visual novels more because they somehow always feel like they have more depth to them ... I could elaborate on that thought if somebody wants to talk on the subject xD ... As for the VNs I have read, here is the list: https://vndb.org/u118122/list ... It's quite modest, I agree, for somebody who knows about VNs for quite some time, I didn't get the time to read a lot of them and time between 2011 and 2015 was spent on other hobbies mostly until I returned to this one ... I switch from anime to VNs, from VNs to manga and from manga to anime so I never really get to have a huge backlog of any of these mediums xD ... And to top it all, I am quite slow, especially at reading VNs (that have a decent plot) and I tend to spend some time on them ... and some of these VNs are so good that I read them at least twice ... The only VN I went through three times was Bible Black because it was a rather interesting hentai nukige title that I liked back in the day and even now I like it very much ... As for other VNs, I still didn't play enough of them but I can safely say that my current favourite VN is "I/O Revision II" fan-translated by Lemnisca (spent more than 60 hours on this one, a rather long hard sci-fi VN which I started in late 2015 and I consider it the best VN that I have read so far) ... And I also fell in love with Swan Song ... though I was dissapointed by some plot developments, I feel like it was rushed at some points but still I like it for its interesting design choices ^^ ... I know there are many other VNs that are probably going to be even better than these I mentioned, I know about all mainstream VNs that are considered a must-read like Muv-Luv, Kara no Shoujo, Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, Ever17 and so on, I know, I have been following VNs for quite some time now and I intend to go through all translated VNs xD ... I know it's going to take a while but I enjoy the medium quite a lot and I even want to "learn" Japanese (however much I can grasp of it, it's a rather unique language in its nature), I started only recently, Genki and some other beginner friendly courses, but its probably going to take me at least 2 to 3 years before I get even the basics and kanji and what-not xD ... I just hope that I will be able to read basic nukige stuff at least someday xD ... As for the VN I am currently reading, it's called "Sensei 2", a rather old G-Collections rapist protagonist nukige that gives me the same feelings like "My Sex Slave is a Classmate", it's almost like I am reading the same VN with some minor differences ... Though as a nukige, I think I like "Sensei 2" more, but it's nothing special overall, it's entertaining to some degree but nothing good as Bible Black was, BB blows these two out of the water any day xD ... If you want to discuss with me about any of the VNs I have read or want to give me special recommendations, feel free to do so Also, ask anything you want to know about me, I am quite open for a chat these days
