  1. Well, not exactly both versions: you can turn every voiced VN into an unvoiced one, but the opposite doesn't hold true
  2. Lately I've seen quite a few topic of the sort in the forums, so I thought I might as well contribute some more to the trend You see, I've read quite a few of both voiced and unvoiced VNs, and never really paid any heed to it because there was just no choice: either you have the voices or you don't, so following my personal policy I say whatever, if your problem has no solution there's no point in hitting your head against a wall. And then there's this latter VN I played, G-Senjou no Maou, which actually has both versions, and I definitely chose the voiced one. So that left me thinking... and I realised that actually voice acting is really important for me and does indeed make a big difference for my immersion. I think it's particularly important in emotional scenes, and not having them would, at least for me, lessen the impact in a significant amount. On the other hand I know there's some people that actually go out of their way to turn the voices off when playing as they find them distracting. So what about you? How significant does it feel for you to have that piece of audiovisual content in comparison with good art or a good soundtrack?
  3. While I don't think I have any particular fetishes and in that regard I have very little to say, I also usually don't mind any fetish with the obvious exception of... let's say crimes (though morally reprehensible would be more accurate in my opinion, since sometimes law and morals don't match) and the perhaps less obvious one of eschatology. But even so, I still read Euphoria... ctrling every h-scene, but still.
  4. Damn, I've been planning to get into Muv Luv for a while now, but I keep reading all those comments about how terribly boring and dull is all but Alternative that it kinda puts me off. I'm just not convinced that it be worth it to go through the pain of reading Muv Luv Extra and Unlimited (which combined make up a really long VN) in order to enjoy the awesomeness of Alternative. In my mind, both cancel out to give something mediocre, unless Alternative is the most incredible thing that I would experience in my whole life. Problem is, I'm not even into the mecha genre... so there's literally nothing that catches my interest at first glance. Now onto the topic, I personally really enjoy utsuges... but you know, anything past a nakige is hard to recommend. People don't usually like sad and depressing stuff. The reason I like it is... well, probably just out of masochism, since they can affect me inmensely, but I'd say that they also act as an outlet for my emotions and I get a feeling of relaxation. You know the expression "cry yourself to sleep", right? Well, it exists for a reason. Apart from that, I guess I find it hard to recommend eroge (that is, VN with h content) to people who are not familiar with the genre. Not out of concern for what they might think of me or anything like that, but you know, there are so many stereotypes in regards to japanese hentai and porn games that people might get the wrong impression and don't take the recommendation seriously.
  5. I'll have to join the ranks of tsundere haters, at least for extreme cases. As Paracelsus said, the dose makes the poison. In general, I think that overacted stereotypical characters are annoying, while just using that stereotype as a little prop for the outline can give birth to very interesting and funny characters. Steins;Gate's Kurisu-tina comes to mind. That said, it is true that bad tsundere characters tend to piss me off more than other badly constructed stereotypes. The reason, if you ask me, must be because I can't stand rude, arrogant and violent people. But I think there's more to it. You see, tsundere characters never come alone. They are always in pair with, generally, an MC who for some reason humors them, bearing all the insults and in many cases, the physical violence. They usually say it is for comical relief, but honestly I don't find it funny at all. Rather disgusting, I'd say. So yeah, bad tsunderes are so bad that they come in pairs with another bad character. Keep them far, far away. Then I'm also not a fan of airheaded, extremely and unrealistically innocent girls for their age, especially in romance. What I personally enjoy the most of the genre is when both characters share their weaknesses and overcome their hurdles. I absolutely hate it when instead of a reciprocal relationship it turns into babysitting a retarded girl. Then again, I'm a believer that you can make any apparently stereotypical character into a very likable and rich one. It's all a matter of depth and developement.
  6. The same way you are supposed to show a slice of life without a scene where the characters poop, I guess. Don't get me wrong, I also appreciate a well written h-scene, as few as they are, but stating that you cannot do without them is an overstatement imo.
  7. As long as it's only the h-scenes, sure, I don't care, but I think you hit the bull's-eye there. Losing the appeal of the 18+, companies would probably just tone down not only erotic content, but pretty much every ounce of adult content and themes in order to sell to a broader public. So, technically yes, I totally would keep reading VNs if the h-scenes were removed, but that's only if the rest of the content remained unchanged... which is highly improbable, not to say impossible. Therefore, in actuality that change in content would most likely be a deterrent for me.
  8. I haven't really read any moeges. I tried once Nekopara but I couldn't get past the first hour, so yeah. However, although it doesn't technically count, what would be the equivalent of moege in anime did improve my mood. For instance, Non non biyori is an anime that always brings me a peaceful and charming feeling and helps me relax and feel overall better, allowing me to forget any RL worries if only for a while.
  9. VN is more of a format than a particular narrative genre, so whether the content itself varies between japanese or western VNs is most likely due to cultural differences and interests. I happen to like the format, and in addition I happen to like japanese culture, so the combination of both turns out really appealing for me. That said, I will read whatever VN that catches my interest regardless of where of by whom it was made.
  10. If there is true route I obviously wanna play it, so in that case I would consider it finished when I unlock all the requirements for the true route plus the route itself. If there isn't true route, then I'm done with it as soon as I finish all the routes that I'm interested in. I don't usually bother to complete 100% just because. Not worth the time and I don't read VNs to bore myself to death, but to ward my boredom off.
  11. Hmm probably Katawa Shoujo, School Days, Saya no Uta, Yume Miru Kusuri and Clannad. Don't remember the exact order though.
  12. Started with Ever17 and I'm like 2 or 3 hours in. It seems it's gonna be quite the mindfuck huh?
  13. But then we have Yuuko's h-scene, that is terrible beyond belief I dunno.
  14. Now that I think about it, I recall actually liking Chihiro's h-scene in ef. Granted, it still had a lot of the tropes you find in hentai, but for the most part I thought it conveyed pretty well the clumsiness and awkwardness of inexperienced young people and it was pretty sweet. Just felt like mentioning it.
  15. I know you are right. But damn how I wished you weren't. I'm part of those unhealthy fucks that expect something meaningful out of fapping material. Gomen.
  16. I always like to focus on the good points of what I read. It's not that I'm oblivious to the many flaws it has, but I'd rather not get too obsessed over them and enjoy the story for what it actually did for me. And in the case of G-Senjou it did thrill and move me. Some of its scenes will always remain etched in my memory and that's good enough for me. Well then good people, I'll follow your advice and wait for the official english release of Sharin. In the meanwhile, I'll be reading Ever17.
  17. Well then, ok Is it that bad or some the fan translation?
  18. I kinda went over it in the spoiler, though maybe I wasn't too specific.
  19. G-Senjou no Maou finished.
  20. Well doing some calculations I get that on average the probability of a girl being on her period on any given day of the year is around 15%, so let's say you have a 4 (sexable) female characters in an eroge, which seems pretty average. The probability of none of them being on their period would be around 52%. Hey, still better than tossing a coin!
  21. Quality topics, as expected
  22. So be it. Shiratori's route finished, it was pretty meh. I've already started with Haru's route.
  23. Finished Kanon's route and all Chapter 3 in G-Senjou no Maou... Now I'm supposed to go with Shiratori before moving onto Haru, but man, what a bummer, I really want to cut to the chase already. I'm seriously considering skipping Shiratori for now and then go back to it once I finish the true route. Could someone tell me how much I would be missing? Is it a no-no or semi-acceptable?
