  1. Though I haven't really read any otome to date, for what it's worth I do enjoy my inverse harems in anime. I'm actually pretty fond of some animes of the genre like Fushigi Yuugi, one of my childhood classics.
  2. Thank you, I'll check them out.
  3. As a side but related question, if you don't mind, do you people know of any VN clearly addressed at a female demographic? You know, not quite an otome or date sim, but a more run-of-the-mill VN which happens to mainly have a female main character throughout the story to which females could relate and insert themselves. And on the topic, if there are few VN's like that, it's hardly surprising that there aren't many in this community. Video games department is in and of itself a field overwhelmingly overpopulated by males, let alone VN's aimed especifically towards that gender... Quite a shame, considering I often feel tempted to suggest a female friend to play some VN, only to find myself discouraged by realizing there's a lot of content that for obvious reasons she most likely wouldn't enjoy.
  4. Yeah, and on that note, I'd like to point out that most people don't carry their fetishes onto real life. What I mean by this is, even if someone gets off to rape pornography, it's not like that would be something they would enjoy in real life, mainly because empathy is a thing for most of us. So, exactly, I'm the opinion that everyone should be able to speak freely about this without being vilified.
  5. I'm another normie who doesn't get off to tentacle stuff as well, or for that matter, any weird fetishes. Sometimes I might like something a little outside the norm, but it's not as crystal clear as to identify any particular fetishes. In general, give me soppy lovey-dovey stuff and I should enjoy that
  6. Well, thing is, you have no way of telling if that's true, and the record tells us that in fact it most likely is not. As wary as you may be, there is certain malware that is simply unavoidable. Fortunately, we are not its target. Let's see, for the sake of an example, do you remember all the fuss Stuxnet made in 2012? That is deemed to be the greatest known endeavor to date in malware development, exploiting up to 4 zero-day vulnerabilities. FYI a zero-day vulnerability is an exploit the software company itself is not even aware of yet. They're obviously really difficult to find, and ludicrously expensive to buy, yet Stuxnet made use of 4. Well, when shit like that comes to light you realize that in all likelihood every system in the world is infected in one way or another. Even intelligence agencies put malware into commercial software. Ask Snowden about all that.
  7. I don't know, to be honest I feel like any time spent in the real world would not be any different. What ultimately matters is the relation among the characters.
  8. I am personally of the opinion that as long as you know what you are doing and have some knowledge on how malware works, you should be able to avoid the vast majority of it. For those that there is no way to avoid, your typical AV won't be able to detect it either. So, I don't use any AV, and of course I know my devices are infected, like everyone's, and it's not like an AV would do anything for me anyway. You see, this must be the only conspiranoic theory that is actually true. Yes, you have malware. Yes, every great corporation has malware and even governmental informatic systems have malware. There is no such thing as privacy and safety in current times.
  9. Well, yeah, but people in real life are also generally dull characters who go on living uninteresting lives. I guess you kinda expect some more from fiction?
  10. Now I'm afraid EDIT: Goddamn Sachi's route makes me continuously let out cutesy "aaaaaawwww"s like a crazed fangirl with stirred up hormones
  11. I think Japan is kind of a weird case here. Every piece of media is oversexualized in incredibly bizarre ways, but when it comes to real life they tend to avoid physical intimacy or for that matter any kind of intimacy, since expressing your own feelings is not considered polite for them. So, Japanese media is not by any means a reflection of their society, if anything, it would be a mirror image: the complete opposite. And for the latter part, I totally agree, and that's what I wanted to express in my post. There is no objective reason why a h-scene should be bad just because is has sexual content. What calls my attention however is that in actuality, perhaps depending on who you ask, but most people would agree that most of them are bad. I cannot help but wonder why, hence my little work of social speculation. My thoughts exactly. I'm sorry but I cannot agree with the people who say "h-scenes are bad because they are not necessary". Well duh, a good OST is not strictly necessary either, but it does add to the work. I appreciate a well-written h-scene, as few as they are, that feels like a natural development in the story, where the characters act as they are expected according to their previous characterization. Like any other scene, it must integrate in the story as a whole, without being regarded as something special or strange.
  12. In the end I started Sachi's route and I'm actually halfway through already. Yes, in 2 days, that is how much I am enjoying it. I'm sorry to hear that perhaps the correct order is Amane into Sachi, in order to know Yuuji's situation at THAT moment, but oh well, too late for that Next up will be Amane, then Michiru, then Yumiko to wrap it up.
  13. I'm fairly new in this VN format, especially compared to other people who have read hundreds, if not too many to keep the track. However, I've noticed some controversy and disagreement on the topic of h-scenes, erotic scenes, adult scenes or whatever you want to call them. While some people seem to be quite OK with it, as long as they feel in place for the VN in question, there seem to be other people who absolutely reject and even despise them as they deem them to be detrimental to the story. As I said, I'm not quite that experienced yet on the topic to provide a full-fledged opinion, so my intention is just to share my first thoughts and listen to other people's pondering. As an open-minded person that I like to think I am if I say so myself, my first reaction to a sex scene in a piece of fiction and the parameters I use to judge it are the same that I would use for any other type of scene, namely, how much does it contribute to the story, does it feel coherent, in line and cohesive with the rest of it and last but not least, is it enjoyable, though this is of course subjective at the very least. I don't like to think in terms of "is it really necessary?", because for that matter nothing is necessary, just contingent. Or maybe we could say that only the scenes that add to the plot are really necessry for following the story, but I think we could all agree as well that a scene doesn't necessarily have to contribute to the plot in order for it to be good. So, this is the theory I approach every work of fiction with. In practice though, things take a turn, and not for the better, as it turns out that most of the h-scenes I've read in VNs are outright awful. Not all of them, but the vast majority. But, why? Sure, the easy way of explaining this would be to say that they are only for fan-service, to serve as fap material and the writters don't give a damn about the quality... and while in some cases it might be true (or rather, it definitely IS true), I don't think one could happily apply this logic to really long VNs with very few (and poor) erotic scenes and overall good quality writing otherwise. Like, come on, one does not simply sit through 30 hours of reading just to pull one off. I've been therefore pondering this for a while, and I reached the conclusion that maybe ultimately it comes down to japanese culture. Sex is a taboo in almost every society on earth, in ours, and it's not breaking news that it's even more so in Japan. If you think about it like that, it's hardly surprising that they are usually not able to write a sex scene that feels "natural". How could you, when you have a twisted version of what a natural erotic scene should look like because of your social preconceptions? It's as good as guaranteed that it will feel out of place. Now, I'm not claiming that it is the main reason. I just don't know, but I feel like it's at least a plausible factor. So, what do you think? I'd appreciate your thought on the matter and your own conclusions
  14. I mean, as far as I know, once upon a time "silly" meant "blessed". Semantic drift is a thing, and sometimes words go through elevation or degeneration in time. Some examples taken from "The language construction kit" - Mark Rosenfelder: Degeneration: Old English cnafa 'boy' -> knave OE ceorl 'commoner' -> 'rustic' -> churl Middle English villein 'rustic' -> villain ME huswif 'matron' -> hussy disease (discomfort -> illness) Elevation: OE cniht 'boy' -> knight OE praettig 'cunning' -> pretty ME fonned 'foolish, infatuated' -> fond Old French mareschalc 'horse handler' -> maréchal 'high military official' Latin casa 'hut' -> Spanish, Italian 'house' So, don't be surprised if in the near future the word 'otaku' ends up being a compliment.
  15. I started SukaSuka, "Shuumatsu nani shitemasuka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte moratte ii desu ka?" Man the full name is a pain in the ass. I really don't know what to expect, besides drama and a fantasy setting. For the time being I must say that I absolutely love the OP
  16. Hmm, but don't get me wrong, I love dark and disturbing stories, especially when they manage to fit in between some endearingly cute moments. The reason I want to try something different is not so much because I didn't like the atmosphere, but just to keep it fresh, considering the VN is pretty long Anyway, I get the general idea I think. Thank you for your suggestions!
  17. Though I've heard that Yumiko's situation is kind of similar to Makina's? Now that you mention it, I do agree that it'd be for the best to play the most different route to Makina's. Do you believe it'd be Yumiko's?
  18. I just finished Makina's route in Grisaia no Kajitsu. Overall I enjoyed it, but as I was priorly aware there are many people who are not too fond of the ending, and I can see why. I could easily criticize the decisions Yuuji made. Come on, it's not that hard to get your priorities right:
  19. OMG That channel is pure gold xDD
  20. I didn't know where she is from. A quick search in google told me it's from Fate/Grand Order. She is sexy and I like her style. 8/10
  21. My 64 bets can't address so much Rem. Math error
  22. Being a fellow Rem enthusiast, have you considered Re:Zero? lol, if she is into horror and fantasy settings I think it kinda suits, doesn't it? Also the start is not terribly slow, nor terrible frantic either, but if she could put up with it the rest of the show is pretty damn thrilling.
  23. Asking for anime that starts strong from the beggining kinda narrows your options, since most good ones take their time to build up the story and characters and don't pick up until past the first quarter of even half It also reduces in great measure the variety of genres since you won't find, say, a drama anime that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the get-go. So maybe my recommendation is to show her some good action anime first, like AoT, Fullmetal alchemist, Inuyasha maybe for a classic? Also a good one could be Akatsuki no Yona, since it has a really strong and badass female lead. Then I would try to convince her to watch some more slow and plot heavy ones, in order to make her appreciate the good story-telling. I would suggest steins;gate and shinsekai yori. These of course are merely generic recommendations, it would help to know her taste in other mediums like movies and literature. If I recall correctly my first animes were Death Note, Elfen Lied, Higurashi, Code Geass. So, edgy stuff, and here I am enjoying my Non non biyori slice of life whose maxim is cute girls doing cute things Bad joke of the day: show her oreimo. Sorry, I could not help it.
  24. Thank you for your welcome and recommendations. I will definitely keep them in mind. The "Dracu Riot" synopsis looks like taken from a hentai tho I'd swear I once saw something along those lines XD
