Reading Kanon's route in g-senjou, I'd say I'm halfway through. Confused af.
-
Some. But it's pretty much a sausage fest
-
I'm playing G-Senjou no Maou. Just finished Tsubaki's route and I'm about to start Kanon's. Then I'll go Shiratori into Haru. That's the recommended order anyway. So far I'm enjoying it, though I feel like Tsubaki's route has some pacing issues.

I can understand why you would be disappointed about not seeing Saya's true appearance, but also keep in mind that this is clearly inspired by Lovecraft's type of horror. The things you can't see nor understand are often the most frightening Also it kinda forces you to see things from Fuminori's perspective.

I loved the soundtrack of Shuumatsu nani shitemasuka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte moratte ii desu ka?
-
Well, I've read quite a few hentai synopsis exactly like that lol. If you're sure it's worth it, then I'll have to give it a try. It's probably another one of those that I would've missed, because I tend to shun those kind of stories like the plague.

Going catastrophic, aren't we? They do sound really interesting, I will surely check them out.
-
Played! I love my KEY stories. Noted. It does sound a little lackluster, but as I said, I trust the good criteria of the forums
-
I take note. It doesn't even have romance nor drama in the genre tags, so I would've definitely missed it. I've already played Steins;Gate and Grisaia no Kajitsu, sorry, but great recommendations nontheless. Yeah, you're right, I should create a VNDB profile. Since I haven't read that many VNs as of now I don't find the need to do it, but I will regret it within a few years when I can't remember all the stuff. I have not actually played G-Senjou no Maou, but I've heard great things about it. Again, the "romance and drama" tag is nowhere to be seen. Thank you. Noted. Thanks! Sounds a little like Psycho-Pass, though the visual style and atmosphere seems completely different Note taken. Thank you!

Hey guys, how is it going? Hope you're all great. I'm looking for a very specific kind of romance VN, thus I appeal to the infinite wisdom and judicious criteria of our forums members for good recommendations You see, romance and drama is probably my favorite conjunction of genres, but it must satisfy certain conditions in order for me to actually like it: -The drama must come from outside of the romance. That is, I don't like dramas based on unrequited love or love triangles or n-polygons. The sadness and the struggle should be something the couple must face together and eventually overcome, for a happy or bittersweet ending, or succumb to it, for a sad one. -I have no problem with sad endings, but they have to convey some message, not just be depressing for the sake of it. Meaningless sad endings just feel like you waste your time. I really love it when after reading a good story I'm left with the feeling that I grew with the characters and learnt something out of it. -This one is optional, but I'd appreciate a "unique" setting. What do I mean by that? Well, it'd be nice if the only thing going on wasn't only your typical hardships: illness, family arguments... It's totally OK if those are included, but a more extraordinary (without being too nuts) plot makes for a more interesting reading, at least for me. Otherwise it just feels like a slice of life, only that the life in question sucks. Hopefully I'm not too demanding. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: Ok, and I just realized I've posted this on the wrong subforum If some moderator considers it appropiate to move it... Sorry for the inconveniences.

I'm not into ecchi anime at all. Actually, I wonder if I even finished one in my life So I couldn't tell whether HS DxD is good or not within its own genre. I did watch a few episodes a while ago and I remember finding it boring and cringy. I figured that ecchi anime was just not for me, after disliking that and To love ru, both praised as good ecchis. Yeah, totally recommended my dude. I binged all 12 episodes and it was a fantastic show. Very original concept, good characterization and world building and surprisingly astonishing art. Totally worth your time.
-
I dunno, it depends on what you mean by overrated. I don't think many people regard HS DxD as the pinnacle of japanese animation and story telling You don't judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. I'm watching Houseki no Kuni, which I totally overlooked during the past season. Really digging it so far. It has the best usage of CGI I've seen. I know, I know, CGI usually sucks, but seriously, give it a chance, it deserves it this time.

In your opinion, do visual novels portray romance realistically
Thyndd replied to ratboi's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It goes without saying that anything that doesn't go against the laws of nature can technically occur IRL, but I think, as Plk_Lesiak said, it's more about how things tend to be in general. No matter how well written and developed a character in a work of fiction is, people in real life will always be way more complex and flawed. You could try really hard to be "realistic", but very often those characters aren't even appealing for the majority of the public. I've seen many times people hating on a character just because they're flawed and doesn't act the way they are expected to, disregarding the fact that real people are too unpredictable and often even annoying. Those are the reasons why I personally don't feel like realistic romance or personal relationships of any kind in fiction are that important. I much more value the fact that the story feels consistent and follows its own rules. Unpredictable behaviours are ok as long as they were hinted before to any degree, however small. -

Yeah I mean, I don't mind either. What I tried to say is that romance in fiction is entitled to not be realistic, and that can be fine and ejoyable. It's up to the story how they want to portray it. Making an analogy, it'd be like realistic and abstract painting. Both have their merits in my humble opinion. -

+1 Romance IRL sucks, that's why we have fiction -
Well that's funny. I don't think I'm dyslectic, or at least I was never diagnosed and I imagine it's not something that goes unnoticed for a long time, but my visual memory is terrible as well, which causes me a lot of trouble when I have to orient myself. Take me out of the paths I've went through over and over, and I'll get lost inmediately. I also struggle to identify right and left. I'm not able to react inmediately without first thinking it over using the hand I write with as a reference. Because of that I had a really hard time taking my driving license practices and exam, and was always stressed out. Well, actually, I think Polish writing system is phonetic, if a bit confusing with all those digraphs and trigraphs, but English... well... there's this classic joke :

That sucks. Learning a new language is already hard enough, so I can see how that would be demotivating, but you know, there's no rush, it's better to enjoy the journey and results will eventually come. No point in getting frustrated over something yo do to enjoy yourself. That's my philosophy anyway. My knowledge of what dyslexia is is somewhat shallow. I'm aware that dyslectic people have difficulties with the correct order of sounds and their corresponding graphemes, but I don't know the root of the problem nor how it affects to other areas of language. The fact that you find grammar hard or that your spatial memory is bad could have anything to do with your dyslexia? For example, do you struggle the same way ordering the strokes of a kanji or recognizing what kanji you are looking at in the same way you do when reading an English Word?
-
Come on guys, a little more of self-confidence. I don't think there is such thing as a human being naturally bad at languages (leaving aside brain impairments). I'm the one who has the least vocab so far and I'm doing pretty good studying a bunch of languages on my own, including Japanese. Languages are a ton of fun. Learning thousands of words, maybe not so much though
-
Wow so many of you seem to have a huge vocabulary. I guess that's to be expected here, where people obviously read a lot. In comparison mine feels really poor But oh well, 3 years ago my English was catastrophically bad, so I'm improving at my pace Keep it coming bois!
-
So there's this website that is supposed to give you an estimate on how many English words you know. I don't know how accurate it can be, but since it'll only take a few minutes it can't hurt to give it a try. As a non-native speaker, this is my result. Native speakers, according to them, are supposed to know between 20k and 35k words. For those of you who have English as L1, does it match? Also very important, as the site tells you, please refrain yourself from selecting words that only look familiar. Pick only those whose meaning you know for sure, otherwise it isn't meaningful.
-
Ok, why not. This is me so that you can put a face onto my nickname. I think you would've been better off just imagining Shion-chan though

I finished Clannad! Praise me! Plaudite!
Thyndd replied to Okarin's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
One does not simply play Clannad and not cry. I don't know if it does or does not teach you the meaning of life. Perhaps that is a bit of an overstatement, but I do feel like it's one of those stories that can changes you as a person. Well, at least in my case, Clannad had a profound impact in me. -
It depends I guess. Not all VNs treat bad endings the same way. In most of them, they are short and rushed, making it feel like something that doesn't really belong to the main story and wasn't actually supposed to happen. In such cases I'd rather skip them. But obviously, I cannot tell beforehand how the bad ending it's going to be. For that I have to trust other people. If many insist on it being worth it, then I go for it.

Your experience of "the visual novel entry barrier"
Thyndd replied to Sayaka's topic in Visual Novel Talk
In my case I knew that some of my favorite animes were adaptations of VNs, and you know how it is when you really really like something: you want to see everything there is to it. My first and main hurdle was, funny enough, English. It's not my native language and a few years ago my level was not even close to allow me to enjoy a VN. I technically could read them, as long as I looked up all the words I didn't know (a whole lot). Quite the ordeal, I must say. Ironically, that's exactly the case for me currently with untranslated VNs But I hope the day will eventually come, as it did with English.
