Your image url is way too long, and doesn't end in a file extension (images should end with either a .jpg or .png). Not sure how it's loading for you, but it's not something I can resolve on my own. -

Nope, that didn't work. Chrome Edge Chrome came out the same as Firefox. With Edge it just came out as jumbled text. Not sure why it would show for you and not me. -
Little Busters! English Edition True Route?
Kenshin_sama replied to Phantom's topic in Visual Novel Talk
If nothing else, I suppose Rin would be the closest to the game's true heroine, but I wouldn't say she's the de facto romance canon. Refrain would be Little Busters' true route, and is mostly centered on friendship (I don't remember there being any romance). There are 3 bonus routes that unlock after Refrain which are now available for the first time with the Steam version. Glad to hear you're enjoying it. Little Busters is my favorite VN! Make sure you have a couple tissue boxes ready when you get to Refrain. -

Fuwa Official Flash Sale/ Limited Time Offer Thread
Kenshin_sama replied to Funyarinpa's topic in Gaming Talk
Fairy Fencer Advent Dark Force is 80% off for 2 days. http://store.steampowered.com/app/524580/Fairy_Fencer_F_Advent_Dark_Force____ADVENT_DARK_FORCE___F_ADVENT_DARK_FORCE/ Pretty impressive discount for a $50 game. Also, from what I've read online, you don't need to play the original. This game includes the story from the original, adds two routes, and is supposedly more polished. -
Oh, oops, I wasn't talking about Fuwanovel either. I didn't state it outright, but I was mainly referring to Steam. I seriously need to fix that writing habit... Fuwanovel is the only forum I've come across that doesn't irk me very frequently, and is generally pleasant to interact with. Very good points here. That being said, I don't think it'll hurt the market too too much. If we were to take a VN like Dies Irae, for example, which was marketed as a game with a free common route and 2 separate payments to break up the pricing a little, I think the publishers did an excellent job addressing the stigma associated with high-priced VNs on the Steam platform. Imo, this is an excellent example of how to adapt a product to a hostile market. I don't know how well it was able to do as far as actually selling the product, but Steamspy reports that at least 58,000+ people own the game, which is quite a step up from Grisaia (34,000+) and Clannad (40,000+). Even if that figure doesn't translate to great sales figures, it will generate conversation and interest, which can only serve to further its long-term profitability. It is fairly disappointing that games like Nekopara (381,000+) are performing so much better than the more serious games. Not that I'm upset at how well it's doing at all since it does seem to have some high quality fanservice, but I'd rather see quality stories take the lead on sales instead. I don't think this kind of thing is unusual even in mainstream games either, if the f2p mobile market is anything to go by. However, I don't think the presence of supergiants in the VN market will ever cripple the desired profitability of a good niche. Even if big name companies start making their way toward games with widespread appeal, there will be someone to fill in that gap and continue to push out games that a niche market will want to buy (the classic gaming niche is a great example of this). As long as rich, story-driven visual novels make a fair amount of money, there will be a market for them. The only real downside here is that producers won't be urged to put them out as often as they should, but at least they're easier to appreciate when they do come out. Besides, it's not like we didn't have a similar problem before Steam when nukige were taking up licensing slots as well (and I'm pretty sure they still are, lol).

Oh, okay. I remember from my initial playthrough that CTRL would skip non-read text even with the option set to not skip it, and I pretty much had to use the button to skip only read text. So when littleshogun said something about them removing the button, I thought they might've rendered it useless. In that case, I take back what I said about Key's blunder. Thanks for clearing that up! Little Buaaaaaaaaaaaaasters!!!
-
Aw come on, why take that out at all? Being able to skip read text is kinda sorta important for some of the foreshadowing to Refrain, because every time you complete a route the text changes to reflect Rin's development. But without having that skip read text feature, readers will understandably want to skip the entire common route and get nothing from the altered text. Granted, it's not entirely necessary to understand the changes Rin goes through since the story does explain them directly, but it's still fun to see those changes take place. So yeah, that is quite the blunder on Key's part. Dafuq they do with her panty shots!? On that note, I was not aware Komari's panties changed pattern based on your choice of donuts. Very interesting. Shame I'll never get to put that into practice with this version of the game.

Why not just pretend they don't exist? I don't mind at all that VNs are getting more exposure if it leads to more sales and localizations. No matter what it is you're talking about, mainstream interests will usually dominate conversations on popular social platforms, and the majority of those people will want to stick to what they know and unfairly criticize anything that takes them out of their comfort zone. And I think that's fine; there's really no need to justify your hobby unless you feel the urge to start an argument you might not win (I've done it a few times myself, lol). Personally, I feel that the less involved I am with toxic communities, the easier it is for me to enjoy what I like. Sometimes it's just not worth it to be active (or even just to lurk) on a popular forum.

I can't say for sure as I haven't read it yet, but I think I heard they were a continuation of the story after Refrain. I'm especially interested in Saya's route since she doesn't even make an appearance in the original.

That's... Damn, okay.

Oh, you're talking about the anime adaption. Was there any scat in it?

How would you introduce animes to your parents ?
Kenshin_sama replied to Pinkaw's topic in Anime/Manga Talk
I tried getting my mom into anime through Fate/Zero, and she thought it was a soap opera. -
I bet you feel like shit now, huh?

Damn Tiago, you're about as salty as PF Chang’s Hot and Sour Soup Bowl right now, lol. Ideally, you should be able to sleep all the way through without waking up. That's better than what I do. I have been mulling over buying PJs lately.

Immediately Satisfying Anime (for teens)
Kenshin_sama replied to Kenshin_sama's topic in Anime/Manga Recommendations
It's something I'd consider down the road, but not right now. Re:Zero is a psychological thriller series, not horror. And yeah, unfortunately it doesn't meet the requirement of being immediately satisfying. But, again, the goal here is to get her hooked off the bat so that she's more likely to sit through the slower stuff. Despite her love for MCU, I couldn't get her to watch more of Agents of Shield because she didn't like the 1st episode (which, I'll admit, doesn't have the most compelling buildup phase). That's why strong starts are important. -
Immediately Satisfying Anime (for teens)
Kenshin_sama replied to Kenshin_sama's topic in Anime/Manga Recommendations
Damn right it does, lol. That's why I had to make this thread since most of what I watch either requires some form of buildup or it's not really suitable for her tastes. But what I'm hoping to do is give her a very strong impression of anime at the beginning in hopes that it sparks greater interest later on down the road. And if I'm lucky enough to get her into drama from watching Angel Beats, my recommendations list will grow drastically. Super hero movies, comedy, western cartoons (she likes the 90s stuff more than newer ones), horror, and Disney/Disney-inspired films (hmm, maybe I should introduce her to Ghibli). There might be other categories she likes, but the ones I mentioned are what she mostly talks about. She kinda broke the mold with Death Parade, which is why I'm thinking general recommendations would be for the best for now. True, lol, but I remember it taking a while for me to appreciate cute anime girls, myself. When I rewatched Rurouni Kenshin as an adult, I was much more attracted to Kaoru than I was initially. -
I made it to 4.5 hours last night! Wow, this is kicking in surprisingly fast. I was a little worried that I might be going the whole week on just 1-2 hours. One thing I've had to learn the hard way is to remain disciplined and stick to a sleep schedule no matter what. It's noticeably hard to do when I'm going out somewhere or playing a highly addicting video game, but I don't think I'll have commitment issues after this. The sleep deprivation I've been putting myself through to fix my insomnia has been completely and utterly brutal. Good thing you picked it up so soon, though. Don't do what I did and wait more than 5 years to fix your sleep issues, lol. If I was counting Rems all night, I'd never sleep.
