See my post in response to this last page. The kind of solution can't be implemented by MG, has to be offered by Valve, and they stopped offering these kinds of solutions a while ago. And probably wouldn't have permitted MG to use it anyways. There's no real possible way for MG to offer Steam games through their site again except by giving away keys. The solutions proposed here, restricting keys to people who have purchased multiple games in the past, and a waiting period, are viable solutions, if not exactly consumer or new-customer friendly.

I feel like I've gotten sour about VNs in the west
Decay replied to Kanbe's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
Ahh yes, all these mouthbreathers ruining the majesty of Neko Para. How dare they? Don't they know true art when they see it? -
Denpasoft just followed suit, they will no longer offer Steam keys for any games sold through their site. It seemed like Sunrider Academy was targeted. If I was to guess, they weren't under immediate pressure or anything but saw what happened with MG, realized it was happening to them, and decided to play it safe before they had the rug pulled out from under them like what happened with MG. Dovac seems super salty right now (what's new?). Also, I want to point out that there was a system for this at one point via OAuth. It was an api that allowed a site to sell and add a product directly to a Steam account. You would log into your account through it and then click a button, and poof, the game was in your account. One day Valve removed support for OAuth without explanation. Maybe they thought it was too much overhead managing it without much benefit for them. The conspiracy theorists out there say that Valve benefits by forcing everyone to sell keys because the risk of fraud makes publishers less eager to sell keys directly, outside of Steam. Historically, a lot of devs would just generate and sell keys on their site, avoiding giving Valve any cut, something Valve allows, and OAuth made it safe to do so, but now it's risky and you're seeing this happen a lot less often. Hmm... Anyways, it's a moot point because Dovac just pointed out that they actually wanted to use OAuth on Denpasoft before Valve cut support and Valve was all like "You want to use it to give Steam games away alongside 18+ content? Ewww, no way!" and wouldn't let them.

I'm cackling like an idiot right now. Of course it would. edit: Number 5 and rising. Just what you'd expect from objectively best VN series ever, Nekopara.

http://forum.marvelous-usa.com/index.php?s=0757aecfb6083aa77dc8de844d0d4128&showtopic=27571&st=150 It's still happening, and it's still going to take a bit of time to release.

Undertale and SMT attempt to do two completely different things with their "enemy communication" systems, they aren't really analogous at all. They do some pretty wild things with their battle system. Every enemy is a unique fight, which is cool. I liked the humor a lot. It's not going to totally blow your mind or anything, but it's just an incredibly charming, funny game.

Harper Lee (To Kill A Mockingbird) Has Died At Age 89
Decay replied to Funyarinpa's topic in General Discussion
Harper Lee has been at death's door for a while now, according to her family she has been in a non-responsive, near-vegetative state for some time, and they suspected the recent "sequel" to To Kill a Mockingbird that was published was done without her consent. Her lawyers and agents obviously disagree, as we can see in that article, I'm sure they're happy with the payday they got when they published that manuscript. -
I still fail to see what's wrong with using kickstarter like SP does. I mean, I've read all of the arguments, they just don't really register to me. So they use KS as a pre-order platform, they've stopped using KS like it was originally intended to be used... so what? I don't understand why these are necessarily bad things. I don't see what's ethically wrong about this practice. Then again, I back very few KS projects and I don't think I'd back one at a tier higher than the basic game tier, so I don't necessarily feel exploited, either. To go back to the main topic, I'm kind of astonished at just how quickly this relationship broke up. WC managed to piss off MG in record time, bravo.

A Tribute to arunaru - Beat Blade Haruka Discussion
Decay replied to littleshogun's topic in Visual Novel Talk
MangaGamer was already considered a high risk client, just because they sold eroge, and were already paying an arm and a leg for card processing fees. Maybe now they'll be an ultra high risk client? -
A Tribute to arunaru - Beat Blade Haruka Discussion
Decay replied to littleshogun's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Yeah, basically due to the sheer number of fraudulent charges, their payment processor decided to abruptly stop their service to MG. It's been down for almost a week, now. Can't make any purchases on their site until their payment processor decides it's okay, again. Considering they still haven't restored service even after MG pledged to stop offering Steam keys, they may end up having to use another service entirely, and who knows how long that process will take. MG really can't catch a break on these matters, they've had struggles with various online merchant companies for ages, now. Being forced to basically shut down their store right when their first two major releases of the year are meant to come out is a huge blow. -
What happened was that Chapter 1 was extraordinarily buggy and they decided to redo it on a new engine before moving on to Chapter 2. I don't closely follow corpse party news so that's about as far as my knowledge goes.

Nobody likes people who aggressively shoves the things they love into your face. Let your girlfriend encounter your hobbies in a way that's comfortable for her. Introduce her to something like the all-ages version of Princess Evangile or some otome game, and if she wants more, take her further down that road. If she doesn't even want to touch it, respect that. edit: PE is long, though. Also bishoujo games like PE are basically built to be male power fantasies and wish fulfillment, and very few women manage to get into them. Now that I think about it, maybe something like Gahkthun could work well, if your girlfriend can get into some of the dorkier kinds of fiction. I mean, there's certainly a power fantasy there, but it's largely gender neutral and men and women get into Liarsoft's games in equal measures.

#Decayisalwaysright Always. For real, though, it's interesting to read about how things are really done behind the scenes. Thanks for sharing, good haro.

Not really? Pleasing Steam is pretty easy. You'd be very surprised what you can get away with, there's even bare loli "breasts" in that recent taiwanese VN I can't remember the name of. They will absolutely never prohibit a game because of incest.
-
I really don't think they're going to give a shit about that. Cutting content has nothing to do with public morals and everything to do with getting onto Steam. In my experience, western companies tend to cut out very little when they do these censored versions themselves. I haven't played the steam version of g-senjou but apparently it left in a lot more than people were expecting.
-
I'm actually kind of surprised people are still making posts like this. What does removing the h-scenes have to do with removing the incest? Why wouldn't they be able to keep that in the Steam version?
-
Sorry, but I just have to disagree 100%. Being merely "understandable" is a ridiculously low bar, too low.
-
The final price will be $10 and $20, the $5 and $10 price points are just for the IGG backers.
-
Another thing is that if Sekai Project finds the selling of 18+ patches to be a success, maybe we'll actually see them for their other games that aren't being sold on Denpasoft? It may be easier to sell a patch to a steam user than it is to sell a full version that runs independent of steam.
-
Other companies sell adult versions at a premium. eden* is $20 on Steam, $25 for the adult version on MG. $25 for Romanesque on Steam, or $40 for the adult version on JAST's site. KARAKARA's price difference is much closer to Romanesque's. When Nekopara first came out, it was sold by the circle for $20, then put onto Steam for $10. They're doing the same for Volume 2. What happened with Nekopara is that people just ripped the adult content from the more expensive adult version and started posting patch links on the Steam forums. Instead of letting fans do it for free, Sekai Project wants to do it themselves, selling it for the difference in cost between versions. Well, price aside, this is still a pretty user friendly way to go about it. Price differences between the versions are only natural, and in my opinion perfectly acceptable. Allowing people to upgrade if they got it on Steam without initially knowing about the 18+ version seems like a good way to go, instead of charging them for the full price of the adult version, punishing their mistake. Or it allows them to get Steam cards and shit while still enjoying the 18+ content. About the price, eh, I'm not so sure about it. I think people value the pornographic content pretty highly, and MangaGamer underprices it with eden. On one hand, charging twice as much for it is a little much, on the other hand $10 for an 18+ patch is actually probably a price a lot of people are willing to pay. I guess it depends on how much of it is there. Incidentally, I wouldn't be surprised if JAST starts doing this with Seinarukana and Aselia.

What's going on with Seinarukana - The Spirit of Eternity Sword 2?

Shiny Days is the same, though... -
Well, Wagamama High Spec is supposedly coming out close to the Japanese release date in late march. There's also Tenshin Ranman and Chrono Clock for other "big" titles in their pipeline, and the Grisaia sequels (although admittedly they were in the process of being fan translated). They've also been releasing a lot of new translations for a whole boatload of smaller stuff, like their yuri titles, this newly announced KARAKARA, the Fault series, etc. ~~~ Insem says that he isn't aware of the Staircase translation being used. And it's his translation, so... edit: This begs the question, if this isn't going to be an "easy" fan patch adaption, then why pick an already translated title? Even if this comes from Favorite, I have to wonder about this. Wouldn't everyone profit more if they release a newly translated title instead?

The physical versions of JAST games only cost extra shipping over their digital counterparts, although j-list tends to charge an arm and a leg for shipping. They also give you a digital key to redeem on release day when pre-ordering physical copies.
