Kara No Shoujo single play through acceptable?
Decay replied to InvertMouse's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Cartagra was fun but kind of a mess, they failed at making the protagonist seem intelligent or capable in any way and it's frustrating how they had other characters solve the mystery for him. Kara no Shoujo was barely even detective mystery. It was more of a suspense/thriller, complete with a high-stakes game of cat and mouse as they're desperate to find the killer. I still liked it a lot, Kara no Shoujo 2 is almost pure mystery, and it's really freaking good. It just seemed more high-brow and intelligent than KnS1 while still keeping you engaged in the story and ongoing murders. The way they develop and solve the mystery is really well done, in my opinion. I can't wait for Kara no Shoujo 3 with how much IG has grown over the years. I really want to see if they find a way to top KnS2. -

That explains why JAST was saying that the game was still in translation long after Aroduc said he was done with it, -

Latest update says Aselia is getting a steam release, too: http://follow.jastusa.com/post/138072849576/game-progress-update-jan-26rd Or at least, they're putting it onto Greenlight. Honestly, that's something they should have done as soon as Greenlight went live in 2013, lol. Seinarukana isn't going onto Greenlight, so I'm assuming Aselia has to due to it being denied by steam reps years ago pre-greenlight. -
Root Double- Before Crime * After Days - Kickstarter launched!
Decay replied to Decay's topic in Visual Novel Talk
"trending towards" is a meaningless projection. It takes the daily pledge average and extrapolates that to the end. Since the recent surge was lower than the initial surge, that means the average lowered and the trend was reduced. However, the projection chart shows that the projection increased quite a bit, which uses data on the recent few days instead. I don't think either of these different techniques are actually useful for telling how much a project will earn. -
Behold, the ULTIMATE question: Inside or Outside?
Decay replied to CeruleanGamer's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I refuse to accept such convenience. My immersion cannot and will not be shattered so easily! -
You'll understand some things. But none of the humor will remain. There's a lot more to written works than "understanding" them. I read the first few days of that machine translation, it was extremely bad. They barely spent any effort in editing it and some sequences are incomprehensible, while others are just unfunny and fails to deliver the comedy properly.

Outside. You're goddamn teenagers (usually). Get your lives in order before you start making babies, christ. -

The opinion was from Blick Winkel. He obviously loves S;G, but he likes Root Double more and wrote a little on why. I don't think anyone but the posters here looking for something to complain about were offended. I haven't seen much in the way of negative reaction elsewhere. -

Root Double uses an eroge artist who draws moege, this may be a turnoff for some, actually. Usually these kinds of games use artists from outside the eroge sphere but I guess they wanted someone cheaper? Regista is a company that rarely makes their own games so they don't have any artists on staff. They did choose an odd one for Root Double, admittedly. -

Turns out we were the fools all along. Who are we to question dovac's grand plan? edit: Some more additional information: The vast majority of pledges after the giveaway start are below the Vita tier. The Vita release produced a small bump that was leveling out just as SP announced the giveaway, which caused a new much larger surge that's still ongoing, although slowing down a little. -

Wait, you're assigning that much weight to the giveaway? I think you're vastly overestimating how much people will care about or even notice SP forgetting to include a free option for an hour. -

Decay replied to Decay's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Oh, sekai project.... I'm no lawyer, but this is how most giveaways that primarily work off of purchases works. Like, you can buy a box of Oops All Berries cereal for a chance to win a sick Making of Paul Blart Mall Cop DVD, or they have an address on the outside of the box so you can write it down in the grocery store aisle and mail in a submission. The alternative free option is done by mail because nobody actually does that, giving people incentive to buy in instead. This is basically how everyone does it. -

I really thought that sounded fishy but I didn't want to do the research myself, thanks jonjon. -

Time to look at some cold, hard, numbers. From the time the vita version was announced, $3100 was raised. I don't think you could have honestly hoped for much more. That's honestly better than I was expecting, lol. This is going to drop off again pretty soon. If the tier was half as much, I wonder if they would have brought in enough new backers to compensate with it? Maybe not. I still think this is the wrong way to go about things, but at least some people are backing. It probably would have been best if they just issued the thing as a tier-independent add-on for an affordable cost. And also if it wasn't over a year out. Not much they can do about that one though, from the looks of things. -

I'm sure that's an overly optimistic point of view. Look, the addition of a Vita version was never going to create some kind of grand surge that pushed the project past the finish line. It was only ever going to produce a small boost. If they lowered the vita version's tier level, I truly don't believe that it would help much at all. The lack of a vita version was never the problem with this kickstarter. -
My god, that english... how did I never notice just how awful it is? Well, it WAS one of my first VNs, but still...

Nine months is downright brief in Kickstarter standards. I really don't understand any of what Sekai Project is telling us regarding this campaign and all of it is so bizarre that I find much of it hard to take at face value. -

Vita version confirmed: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sekaiproject/root-double-before-crime-after-days-xtend-edition/posts/1473372 > programming will be handled by Regista, will take at least a year to release due to multiple factors. That's not great, but at least it's something? edit: Oh, I almost missed it: > the PSVita port is exclusive to the $225 tier and up. So yeah, if you were waiting for the Vita port, maybe keep on waiting until it releases on PSN some time in 2017. Unless you are just that dedicated, I guess. -
Majikoi is a lot simpler than it looks. Almost none of the choices even matter, and there aren't all that many endings. I never found it even slightly hard to get the good endings and I thought the choices that lead to them were really obvious, playing completely blind. The important part is that the branching system is dead simple, none of the choices in the prologue/common route matter and you can get on the route you want just by picking that character repeatedly once you enter into the branching section.

The whole arc surrounding Midori was awesome, though.

Conjueror's Untranslated Visual Novel Tournament [Discussion]
Decay replied to Maxel's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It starts as a nukige and then after a few hours it genre-shifts hard into science-fiction. -
Maybe that's the case, if so then I don't really remember any more. Anyways, regarding the normal end not having any point, I dunno, I thought it was kind of interesting. Plenty of games have bad ends, but not many have a story about how the protagonist has to cope with the aftermath. It's a unique enough story that I didn't really dislike.

The western audience is really in love with their ~*pLoT tWiStS*- to an unhealthy degree. They'll fellate anything with them regardless of the actual quality of the story. -
Majikoi A Translation Project Discussion

Takahiro strikes me as quite the homophobe, so I wouldn't expect anything along those lines.
