  1. For some reason when I launched the game to take the above screenshot, it was slightly better than it was before, but you can still see it a little. Anyways, this issue is happen while running in fullscreen mode, it looks fine in windowed. It probably has to do with the upscaling. For some reason Anisotropic is disabled for me, I cannot select it. Bilinear scaling produces those results. Point scaling gives me artifact-free text but of course the whole game becomes really pixelated and ugly. So, has anyone run into this issue before and have any idea on a fix? edit: I realize the font wasn't installed properly. Doing so caused a significant reduction in the artifacts. They're still there, but much less pronounced.
  2. This makes her sound really subservient which is probably not what you want.
  3. If you want to get the full characterization in any Japanese game, the only real solution is to read it in Japanese. Desu is one of those things that will just always be lost in translation, we should just accept that. This is a really terrible solution to the problem in my opinion. Again, this is the first time I've ever seen any professionals do this because it's usually obvious that you shouldn't. Expect to get a LOT of pushback for this.
  4. Whatever character trait you're supposed to be representing by leaving that in completely fails to come across in the english script. When used like that in english, it's just a complete nonsense word that doesn't give us any insight into that girl's character at all. There are many characters in anime and VNs with this verbal tick, yet this is literally the first time I have seen a professional company translate it in this kind of way. It's honestly a baffling decision.
  5. Well, they're going to edit it out, right? I mean, you can't possibly leave the final product to be like that, right??
  6. That would be incorrect. Also, this post has multiple grammatical errors as well . I'm not intending to be rude here, but to be honest, this is why I don't know if I can trust you saying the game has bad grammar. If nothing else, JAST has always been solid with their grammar.
  7. Not gonna lie, the only truly objectionable thing I've found in the translation from what you've posted so far was the Benjamins thing, and only because they directly referenced the 10,000 yen note and the actual face on it right after. I'm not actually convinced yet that the translation is bad.
  8. I like that art too. And you know what? YOU KNOW WHAT? I like the Yu-No remake's art!! I am truly history's greatest monster.
  9. I've looked at both and it seems alright. I have no strong opinions on this matter either way. I also think the Kazoku Keikaku remake looks fine. I think this basically makes me Hitler.
  10. You'd think the companies that sink a lot of money into producing these heavily expanded console versions would hire a freaking editor for this kind of thing. Writers make mistakes. Writers who churn out text by the thousands of pages make even more mistakes. Surely Kaga can afford an editor for the poor man.
  11. Perhaps that's the kind of thing where they changed the line in the Japanese version but not in the english version since they kept the same script and only did an editing pass.
  12. JAST in the past was always adamant about discarding honorifics and westernizing names. I think they're still like this to an extent. Which version are you playing, btw? The "Kana Okaeri" version has a revised translation so it's probably the better one to read these days. I haven't played either version so I can't attest to how much of an improvement it was.
  13. I actually liked the combat. It's like a faster, simpler version of SMT3's combat, which was good. But hard mode is just so pointless.
  14. The Nae stuff was the biggest cut and to be honest, it was pretty bad. I'm actually glad they cut it, it felt really out of place and unnecessary in the VN.
  15. He's on some projects such as Himawari.
  16. But if you've only read the Baka-Tsuki translation before, wouldn't that heavily cloud your judgement?
  17. I've watched and enjoyed the anime but I never played the VN because I've heard bad things about the translation. Since this release is retranslated, I'll probably read this at some point in the near future when time permits. Enough time has passed for me to revisit the story.
  18. It is gamestop policy to gut the contents of every game case they put on the shelves in order to prevent theft. They take brand new games, take the disc, and store them elsewhere. Not saying that for sure your games weren't used, but you won't find a single pristine sealed new copy in a gamestop store shelf.
  19. It was removed from Steam because the product description contained links to another store or something along those lines. Highschool Romance was pulled at the same time for the same reason. They have to rework the descriptions and submit the game again. edit: This was the case for Highschool Romance, not Yohjo Simulator, which were removed at the same time leading to some confusion. There has been no statement regarding Yohjo Simulator.
  20. At some point they said they were aiming for a summer release for Sumaga, but they sure missed the mark on that one.
  21. You definitely made a mistake by picking hard. There is no reason for this unless you want to grind or something.
  22. May as well throw ef on that list. It's somewhat thematic for the season. Also Tsujidou-san no Junai Road. Just because I really want to see that. For an OELVN, how about Long Live the Queen, it's in VNDB so it counts.
  23. You're really not supposed to be talking about this stuff at all. Don't ask these questions, and don't answer them, either.
  24. Unfortunately Edison doesn't play a role in this one, as far as I know, so they don't play up that rivalry at all. Although it does feature Florence Nightingale and Wilhelm Reich. Most of you know who Florence Nightingale is, but I'm sure many of you have never heard of Wilhelm Reich. Reich was an Austrian psychoanalyst, active from the 1920s until his death in '57. He worked under Freud and gained some recognition early on. But his theories quickly became heavily politicized. He had The Mass Psychology of Fascism published in 1933, after which he made a hasty exit from Nazi Germany. He was highly critical of fascism and, interestingly enough, attributed the rise of fascism to the repression of the youth's sexual desires. This political philosophizing caused some alienation in the psychoanalyst community, but it didn't end there. His next work, The Sexual Revolution, was a controversial work that was practically pseudo-science. It merged ideas from marxism with psychoanalysis and theorized that the source of all neurosis is the lack of "orgastic potency" in subjects. He was actually somehow even more obsessed with sex than Freud was. He came up with a theory surrounding "orgone," a supposed universal energy that drives all life, which is sexual in nature. And he came up with a bizarre form of therapy where he would have his patients strip down and he would prod and massage them in certain ways that would allow them release repressed emotions and sometimes also reach orgasm. Yeah. Suffice to say, he became a bit of an outcast, and almost no one follows his teachings anymore. So, what does this have to do with Gahkthun? Gahkthun's Wilhelm Reich is the leader of The Academia's Governing Council and actually has a fascist bent, which goes against the real-world Reich. The impression I get from his character bio is that he seems to be all business, being the kind of guy who has no time for sex and never talks about it. But what he does have in common is "Orgone." Gahkthun's Reich seems to be in search of this cosmic force he believes to be the manifestation of bliss itself. It will be interesting to see how many other ways the character may relate to the real life figure. I know this post was largely apropos of nothing, but I like it when games utilize historical figures like this and I enjoy comparing them to the game characters. It's nice to know the background of these people before going in and hopefully some of you found it interesting as well.
  25. How do you plan on doing widescreen without cropping?
