news ABC AU TV show Good Game segment on porn in video games
Decay replied to sanahtlig's topic in Visual Novel Talk
A thoroughly negative point of view, but nothing we don't already expect from the mainstream. Most people have their preconceptions about porn based on the western porn industry. And everyone also has their preconceptions about "porn with story" thanks to the god-awful faff that overly-ambitious western porn directors occasionally produce. Nothing but experience, either firsthand or secondhand from people they trust, will convince people that their preconceptions are wrong. -
Well, it would still cost a pretty penny. May as well just translate a new game, from their viewpoint. Either way, there are much worse game translations in their back catalogue than Da Capo 1. Some of them have been updated to improve the translation (such as edelweiss and kira kira), some haven't, it all depends on the initial game sales and resulting demand for an update. Da Capo was considered "good enough," I suppose, with not too many people demanding a better translation. edit: More than money, I suppose that MangaGamer is heavily manpower-blocked right now. They are pretty unwilling to dedicate their precious manpower resources to do retranslations. They are doing this with Higurashi though, for one example. Supposedly the people who bought the awfully translated original versions are getting the retranslations as a free update (but no other features of the new releases).

onomatope*'s lastest title - Kyuuketsuki no Libra - is coming to Steam
Decay replied to Satsuki's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Does his sprite appear often? Can't say I've seen many voiced games that have a protagonist with a sprite but without voice acting. -
It's really easy to hide information from readers about your story. It's really hard to pepper in that information in interesting ways and then reveal how it all connects in a surprising manner. Kara no Shoujo 2 is a recently translated game that does this very well. Euphoria, unfortunately, is not.

The good end is just some bullshit they tacked on to appease the people who demand them.

You're just picking all of the most fun VNs, aren't you?
-
So, your argument is that they're lazy for not reusing the same battle system and instead, making something new? Yeah, okay. Add "lazy" to the list of english words you don't understand along with "remake."
-
Remake does not mean "identical game with updated graphics" and I'm glad Square-Enix is trying to find ways to improve the gameplay. edit: I say this as one of the so-called "true" fans who have played the game in 1997 and should be the most up in arms about this. I just haven't seen anything objectionable about it so far.

I need help deciding what to read to get back into the habit of reading VN's
Decay replied to Mugi's topic in Recommendations
And if you don't mind some gameplay in your VNs, there's always Kikouyoku Senki Tenkuu no Yumina, it's pretty laid-back and light-hearted. Also the fan patch for Koi ga Saku Koro Sakura Doki might be coming out in the near future, which might be right up your alley. (Oh, and also the impending release of Noble Works. Soon.) -
Linkara reviews Cho Dengeki Stryker (partially)
Decay replied to BookwormOtaku's topic in Visual Novel Talk
There's actually a surprising amount I enjoyed about Cho Dengeki Stryker, but for the most part I thought it was a little too by-the-numbers. At least the CDS scenarios were better than the original ones. I thought it was good, but I dunno, I can't get nearly as enthusiastic about it as Tyr. -
Many of the Legend of Heroes games were multi-part.
-
We know nothing other than that they will sell it in parts. I dunno, that doesn't sound like it will be inherently bad. There are ways to do that right, and there are ways to do that wrong, and since we know absolutely nothing about how they're going to do it, I'm going to take a completely neutral stance on it. The "guilty until proven innocent" attitude some people take about these kinds of things really rub me the wrong way. It's like you want to be outraged and are finding any excuse for it.
-
People are really jumping to conclusions something fierce here. You cannot possibly have even the slightest inkling of how accurate that is. Is there any reason to assume that this won't be done in a reasonable and fair way?
-
You're talking as if this is going to be another one of their nukige, when this couldn't be further from the truth. It's an all-ages-only VN.
-
You say that as if Goo doesn't do good work, but Himawari has quite the following. I kinda want this more, lol. Also, speaking of in-house translations, Conjueror recently stated he was contracted by a Japanese company to work directly with them on a VN translation, and he has previously worked with FW and MangaGamer on Himawari. Coincidence... ?

Danganronpa 1 Steam Release, 2 Likely Coming to PC
Decay replied to Funyarinpa's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Steins;Gate is also on the list of leaked DB entries. Be aware that some time ago in a similar database leak, Ever17 was listed but that never happened. These leaks aren't bogus, someone with publishing access created an app entry named DanganRonpa and so forth, and in the case of that series those are probably going to happen given what we know about the publisher's intentions. I'm still not sold on S;G getting a Steam release. It could be JAST testing a Steam version, but that doesn't mean whatever licensing issues that have held back its release thus far are cleared up. And obviously Half Life 3 is in development in some form, lol. It's gone through like a dozen iterations in the last 11 years and Valve won't stop now. -
onomatope*'s lastest title - Kyuuketsuki no Libra - is coming to Steam
Decay replied to Satsuki's topic in Visual Novel Talk
They might be afraid that if they sell it on the MiKandi store, it might give off the impression that it's the same as the rest of the stuff there. Also they're currently only selling stuff for Android there. -
So it's quite a bit shorter than Grisaia no Kajitsu, huh? That's kind of disappointing, but GnK was probably too long as it was.

That's actually a pretty standard percentage when you start doing the math with a lot of games. -
From a garbage show, no less.

Root Double- Before Crime * After Days - Kickstarter launched!
Decay replied to Decay's topic in Visual Novel Talk
As long as people remain happy to pay for stuff 6 months to a year in advance, they will never get tired of being "exploited." I don't really see how that's exploitation in the first place. The bubble will only burst if they stop getting what they paid for. -
onomatope*'s lastest title - Kyuuketsuki no Libra - is coming to Steam
Decay replied to Satsuki's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Most Chuuni games tend to have multiple male side characters. I don't really think of it as that big of a deal, especially since Libra seems to be a much less serious one. -
Astro is prioritizing Clover Days, Reminiscence, and Four Rhythm as well as his Sekai Project duties at the moment. Bloody Rondo is deep on the backburner, so it's best to not expect anything.

Root Double- Before Crime * After Days - Kickstarter launched!
Decay replied to Decay's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Or you could just use Kickstarter with a company well versed in that. Possibly the most efficient way of them all? Almost no downside? Seems great!
