Here's my thoughts based on the store page: It's not immediately clear what the selling point is. What's the story hook? For Nekopara, it was a catgirl cafe. The all-important short description under the logo reads like nonsense. The intro video tells us nothing about the characters and setting, and the character descriptions are in tiny font and the text is cut off at the bottom of the video! My resulting first impression is: the premise is a directionless mashup of tropes. Back button. Kinetic novel: This is NOT something you want to emphasize. Western gamers, especially casuals, want interactivity in their stories (think School Days). Games without choices are the opposite of that. VNs don't market themselves unless you're really lucky and manage to make a meme game, or you have a lot of followers already who will help spread the word. Frontwing potentially alienated the core fanbase by charging double the price to add a few H-scenes in the extras menu. They're not going to spread the word for you when you do that. For an episodic game--especially a text game--people will tend to wait until all episodes are released to try it, especially if there's a concern that the game won't actually be finished. Dies Irae Steam Confirmed (Prefundia Up Now)

Maybe the "announcement" is aimed at other Japanese companies rather than English users? Sort of like bragging about your career aspirations to your coworkers? -
Looks like JAST put about 200 sales worth of effort into the TLC, just by my rough estimation. I'm curious if they'll actually recoup that in additional sales.

How do you "upscale" images from 4:3 to 16:9 without cropping? -

Is there a single VN for which the CG were redrawn to accommodate a new aspect ratio (excluding remakes where the art was redrawn entirely from scratch)? -

That's one reason I'm holding off blogging about it for the time being. -

That's quite a leak. Poster translation: Note: There's a few kanji I couldn't make out due to the low resolution of the image, so I interpolated. Should still be more or less correct, but don't focus too much on the exact wording. -
TIME: How Trolls Are Ruining the Internet
sanahtlig replied to sanahtlig's topic in General Discussion
I'm a regular TIME reader and I generally respect them as a journalistic outlet (though I rank them below The Atlantic because their online articles are usually superficial news coverage--but on important topics at least!). I literally saw the headline for this, and that it was a featured article, and linked it to my friend with the line "This should be entertaining." I was not disappointed. Well, I WAS disappointed, but was entertained nonetheless. -
I thought MG retranslated KiraKira for the release of the expansion? Or maybe that was Edelweiss? There was a forum thread about it on the MG forums but...

TIME: How Trolls Are Ruining the Internet

Wikipedia is amazing. It's where I send my Amazon charity money. VNDB, as a small-scale effort to chronicle VNs, is also great. Text hookers allowed me to learn a new language. If not for the Internet, I never would've discovered eroge at all. -

I'm not really a philosopher. I just use that as my forum title because of my penchant for arguing for its own sake. -
TIME: How Trolls Are Ruining the Internet Some choice quotes and my thoughts on them: ... Trolling is attention-seeking behavior. It is a specific type of behavior that's facilitated by disinhibition. It happens ANYWAY in real life, it's just not on public display. When a girl is raped while drunken friends laugh and jeer, is that supposed to be any better? The Internet just makes the ugly side of humanity more accessible, allowing us to watch it happening in real time. That's a rather... broad definition of "trolling": jokes, pranks, harassment, cyberbullying, doxxing, identity theft. Circular definition identified. ... I thought we were talking about Internet trolls? Now we're talking about Trump and his fanatic followers? But... GamerGate isn't alt-right? And has nothing to do with Trump? They say this like Internet message boards are training grounds for Internet terrorists. So apparently the progression of the Internet hierarchy is 4chan -> Reddit. I'm sure 4chan would love to hear this. Well that's not nice. [same paragraph] What does this have to do with trolling again?

I had a very similar discussion with LewdLogic (head of LewdGamer) on the difference between the Japanese and Western adult markets. We concluded that the difference is that in the West, the porn industry is actively suppressed by governments and the commercial and financial sectors. We were mainly discussing why a professional industry for adult gaming exists in Japan but not in the West, but this likely applies to some extent to the wider adult industry. The demand for professional content (backed by paying customers) and the talent necessary to produce it just never quite coalesced in the West (or it only coalesced around specific content types rather than more broadly). Again, the argument being that the reasons for the differences you see are much more complex than you're acknowledging here.

The package weight is approximately 3.5oz, or 100g.

"It's the mosaics!" is a very simplistic explanation of the reasons underlying fundamental differences in porn content between Japan and the rest of the world. That certainly affects camera angles and such, but does not suddenly create demand for immersive experiences. This difference in supply and demand of immersive *visual* pornographic experiences can be explained by fundamentally different cultural attitudes towards pornographic content. In the West, sex entertainment tends to focus on instant gratification: short, cheap experiences. The audience isn't interested in investing the time and attention required for drama and situational eroticism, nor are they willing to pay for it. In addition, the deep objectification of women, including psychological dependence on the "protagonist", seen in Japanese porn is viewed as disgusting by many in the Western audience. They find more shallow portrayals less offensive. That's not to say that developed situational eroticism doesn't exist in Western culture. But it tends to take place in smut fiction novels rather than in visual formats, and it's usually targeted at females.

I came across this on the JAST boards: http://discuss.jastusa.com/discussion/comment/382820/#Comment_382820 Installer problems are not new to JAST. Why does JAST keep stumbling on the same issues?

I also have to call "conflict of claim and source" on this. Here's a relevant excerpt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography_in_Japan#In_the_20th_century The ban was in place before the occupation. Can't blame the US this time.

how do you fix a messed up sleeping schedule?
sanahtlig replied to a topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
I've actually found that heavy exercise or a full stomach before bed make it much easier to fall asleep. -
A pattern of sudden submissions is generally a symptom of inability to plan ahead. It's the final stage of the disease of procrastination: failing to meet deadlines for so long that you don't set deadlines anymore for fear of failing to meet them. I have firsthand experience.

Don't screenshot the translation. Screenshot the original JP text captured from the hook. While you're at it, check if any of the other hooks are cleaner.
