I thought the same when I started and it was really hard for me too specially the first 3 months or so but once you pick up the pace and you break that "starting curve" it gets easier. The staring curve is what bolverk described as "understanding and feeling the japanese language" that's is something that took me a lot but once you pass that it will get easier to learn. I used http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar for the grammar, there are tons of webs out there but I think that one was the best explaining everything, for vocabulary i still use memrise from time to time and anki if you need any help finding materials or you don't understand something pm

yes you will, if you really want to learn you will learn, it's not about memorizing because after a while you will just know what every syllabary mean without actually thinking about it or trying to remember it, is like when you write a word you dont actually "think" about it, it comes natural to your head. It takes a lot of time (to anyone not just you!) but it's possible just be persistent and study every day, there are no tricks you just need to study study and study a bit more xD

Well in Greece when they were teaching rhetoric they often made you defend something (a random subject was assigned to you) and then contra-argument what you said, the goal was to convince the ones who were testing you and see if you were able to convince them both way. Sadly or luckily depending the way you see it I had to study it for school since rhetoric is a big part of being a lawyer (not in the same way as in USA for example since there are no trials with juries here) Again I find the process really interesting but it all comes down to the subject itself that is being debated.

why is that guy thanking sekai -
debates can be good and interesting or really bad and boring it all depends on the subject they are debating and if you like that subject in particular...for example koichoko debates are crap for me because they are all about the management of the school which is really boring (again for me)

to be fair even japanese people have problems remembering all the kanji (specially writing them) so for us that we barely use them aside from reading vns or watching some anime is really hard to memorize them

swan song, there are many debates, there is specially good one where they are talking about if killing a person is ok or not.

What essential features should modern VNs today have?
Deep Blue replied to Kanbe's topic in Visual Novel Talk
a clean font, this is not an issue with translated vns because they use normal fonts but some jap vns uses really weird fonts which makes a pain to distinguish some kanji...sometimes is even hard to figure out what hiragana or katakana is being displayed transparent textbox with a readable font that contrast with the backgrounds, I can number so many vns where the background is white or too bright and you can't actually read the text...ffs designers you have 1 job do it right! panic button, there was a vn (I cant remember which one) that let you put a .jpg image so when you right clicked it will put that jpg, it was pure magic xD setting the music...this sounds silly but some vns you either turn it off or is too fucking loud that you cant even hear the voice acting. last a clear screen, like muv luv alt or some minori vns, I don't want to see a fancy textbox blocking the characters, why would I prefer a textbox over seeing the background and characters? leave the text, preferably changing the color depending of the character that is talking, also dont do full screen text that shit is dumb and doesnt make any sense >_> -
swan song, saya no uta, ever 17, remember11, narcissu, True Remembrance, planetarian, cartagra, kara no shoujo, eden. this are not all magic related but they do not have any school setting parts

I learned all 2136 kanji in 2 days while trekking the himalaya, I did practice the strokes on the snow, so I kinda cheated there me bad..

頑張ってください!! The amazing thing is that you won't probably understand anything now but after a few months you will and the satisfaction of understanding even a simple sentence is really gratifican, just take it easy, learning the kana(hiragana and katakana) takes you around 1 or 2 weeks and even if it takes you more dont give up you will make it

the game is partially voiced (very very few lines are voiced) same exact amount as the original jap game that was released back on 2014, the second stretch goal (30k) was for paying the licensing of those voices the 46k goal was to unlock the full voices which they were recording (or so they said)... and probably will be added to the jap version at some point because SRL is still working on the game and they plan to add more stuff even do a sequel (all the updates are on their facebook page)

Now this makes sense lmao http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198163307617/recommended/340090/ I was waiting for the full voices patch I guess I will have to play it without it now, also I have this weird presentiment that the game will be all over the internet even if is taken down from steam, probably in 1 or 2 days but don't quote me on this
