Narcissu like VNs , any recommendation ?
Deep Blue replied to MarcoCorvus21's topic in Recommendations
nope ame no marginal is nothing like narcissu, they are a bit similar in the beginning but that is it. -
That would be incorrect. Also, this post has multiple grammatical errors as well . I'm not intending to be rude here, but to be honest, this is why I don't know if I can trust you saying the game has bad grammar. If nothing else, JAST has always been solid with their grammar. Not gonna lie, the only truly objectionable thing I've found in the translation from what you've posted so far was the Benjamins thing, and only because they directly referenced the 10,000 yen note and the actual face on it right after. I'm not actually convinced yet that the translation is bad. leaving aside grammatical errors (which clearly i'm bad with and can't judge) I still think the translation is bad because of the many many untranslated sentences and how they use the names incorrectly, to call someone by their name when they actually are saying their surname or vice-versa is a big thing in Japan and it feels bad. I'm not even complainig about not using honorifics, also to change the names like Toudou to Todo, Takamichi to taka. Using expressions like "for pete's sake" or "poker face" I can go on. You can say they "westernized" the translation I said is just bad, actually I don't mind grammatical errors in vns I was being an ass I never complain about that. This was my first and main complain, never mentioned the grammar until recently. "After reading both versions I can say why there are so many scrip problems. The new version is a tweaked version of the original script which didnt have any voice acting but the thing is they left all the dialogs from the original so the voices most of the time don't match with the text. Also the new script added many new lines and explanations, for example that sentence about Fukuzawa but they didnt bother to check if the new lines matched with the older ones and thus you have a complete mess. Now what I did notice that they change from the old script to the new one are "Bro" for "oniichan" or names, they often use "he", "she" "my sister" in the older one and in the new one they use their names (incorrectly 90% of the time) other than that I haven't seen any other big differences "

naruhodo naruhodo, so I used it incorrectly for years D: Well thanks to kana imouto now I'm a little more intelligent less stupid. well there are entire sentences untranslated and every time a characters says "Toudou" in the translation (they use "todo") they say "taka" same thing with other characters, they avoid using the proper names, so yeah I don't think that can be called a good translation. But that's just my opinion.

I will be crying in the corner I feel pretty Michiru right now. Edit: now I'm curious, is it incorrectly to say "lets be beast together"? does it mean the same?
-
damn now I feel stupid but buuuuuuuuuuuuuut "The form it is derived from, let us, is considered somewhat dated except in formal language." so I was partially correct (?) (Yeah I'm a bad looser )

So yeah still playing kana, the story is good but I don't really like it also with more of this... ok i will stop from now on.

Cost Breakdown10% goes to Kickstarter fees and credit card fees40% goes to translation and editing costs50% goes to voice costs as well as physical goods production and shipping.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leaving that aside is weird because in the campaign 50 dollars was the physical tier, but maybe they will drop the price the release day to 40 or 45 Damn forum I can't write properly anymore
-
well but wasn't all that work paid with the campaign money in the first place? Yeah, but this is the price from 2010/05/28. And it's still for a physical copy (like that 40$ one that I linked), not for a digital one. But yeah, it's possible that this was Key's idea. Whenever people were complaining that Western releases of VNs are too expensive, I was always pointing out that they are much cheaper than in Japan, so they have nothing to complain about. This is the first time when I can't say this. I know I was just posting the real reference to the price.

hard to tell what's going on since that error is in chinese

welcome to fuwa Darek enjoy your stay ~ btw what's your fav vn?

how kind of them to use furigana in the song lyric this novel looks interesting I might play it.

Really? really? wtf is this shit I'm reading... a second later This is by far the worst translation I have ever seen... EDIT: After reading both versions I can say why there are so many scrip problems. I do agree that it is a great vn but if he is looking for something utsuge then this is not the vn, that's why I said is not very narcissu-like, the truth is there is nothing like narcissu out there. Free of eroge, without romance, just pure character development with a depressing theme. -
seeing your butt makes me uncomfortable Ren there, feel better now?

it's a charage or even moege vn what did you expect

Narcissu like VNs , any recommendation ?

sadly there is nothing like narcissu, not even narcissu 3 is like narcissu 1 and 2. Over the rainbow is really really bad and nothing like narcissu (the main character rapes a mentally disable girl, the end) True remembrance is good but mmm I don't think is narcissu-like the only vn that comes to mind now that it is somehow similar to narcissu is Homeless Joshi Gakusei but it is in japanase and full of rape so yeah.. -
The art is not bad by any means just very generic, the original art style was better imo because kana looks like an ill person and not a healthy (underage) girl, even if they explain that she is younger because of her kindness problems that doesn't explain why her face looks like exactly of a girl of 12 years old xD Don't forget that the original version didn't have any voices. The translator probably thought he could reword a little bit for better fluency in English. well I'm sure is because of that then, also the voices are pretty good so I don't mind, to be honest I haven't heard yet a bad voice acting in a japanese vn
-
I hope so, i will read it as it is and maybe then I will search for the jap and read it again so I can compare them. Also everyone adress the MC as takamichi-kun or toudo except for her family but it's always taka in the translation, but this is not the first time I see something like this in translation, that they have this urge to avoid using the surname of the characters or change it backward as if someone calls him "A, B" in the translations is "B, A" or "A" being the surname you see "B". It seems that the reader will get lost or suffer from brain damage if they actually use the names as they should...
-
I'm playing the welcome home version, if this is the revised version I can't imagine how bad is the other one... I can let pass the honorifics but there are whole sentences untranslated and other times the character says うん(yes) and they give you a whole explanation about why she said yes, like "you want an apple?" "oh yes i love apples please peel one for me", her real answer was just "YES" I would hate to read it on japanese... it's going to take me like a whole week to finish it (or more) but I really enjoy the story so far and the characters but I cant stand when they do this kind of stuff, yeah why translate a dialog that the father is having lets just make him say "gotta go to work" is not plot relevant after all EDIT: when i was buying the novel(yeah i feel a bit ripped off but oh well) I saw that Jast sells porn too that was surprising now all they have to do is take off those damn mosaics
-
reading kana imouto, so far it's really good but the translations is atrocious, there are many times when they don't translate what the characters are saying others the translations is not accurate at all, they don't use the names properly, not honorifics, it's a pain to read
-
"kill yourself" is a bit strong....maybe "take your life away in a gently way" could work better.

Stein's;Gate anime wasnt that bad compared to vn. Heck, most anime versions of vns dont even break top 100 of most top anime lists. Stein's;Gate broke that trend by staying in My Anime List and most anime rating sites in the top 10 for several years now. it wasn't but a lot of things got cut from the plot, I understand why it is an anime and probably wasnt enough budget to do all of them but by only watching the anime you are missing all the heroines routes aside from kurisu which are actually really good also all the explanations in detail about time travel. But for the most part it was pretty accurate overall following the vn true ending.
-
As Rooke said the vn is really really long and for the most part is slice of life with some drama with bits of comedy and nothing else so if you don't like that you will hate this novel and people usually don't read the novel because of that, to spend 100 hours in a vn is not for everyone, for example I know many people in this forum couldnt finish muv luv extra or even unlimited, in the end they watch the anime instead which is more appealing than just reading and shorter too, so they don't have a point of reference to compare with.
