    Fabulous on Fuwa - February!

    By Kaguya

Introduction   Welcome, fellow Fuwamembers, to the FuwaRecognition thread. Starting this March, we’ll be highlighting some of the best contributions made by our members each month. From snazzy blog articles to delicious forum threads, and perhaps even a few things more on the shitpost part of the spectrum, we'll keep an eye out for the cream of the crop. And then we'll gather them here. Just for you.   *holds up giant APPLAUSE sign*   A-hem, so this is the f

Worry

Well, I guess it’s time to show something. Don’t worry, dearest follower of this site, I’m not dead, I’ve just been incredibly busy. I’ve had exams left and right, and thus, I’ve felt a little demotivated. But, I’ve never given up on this project, there’s no way I can. I mean, it’s been over a year since I started this “passion project”, and I still intend to finish it with all of my power. I won’t give up, there’s no way I’ll allow myself that. This project is

Chrono Clock - Miu and final thoughts

Miu Well, he was right. This is not a route, but a mini-route. That can be finished in 15 minutes tops. The content is itself not bad, just standard charage stuff. Don't expect anything great.   Final thoughts On hindsight, I might not have needed to split the whole VN into so many posts. But I thought of writing them as soon as I finished them, so it ended up being that format. Anyway, I'll just list down my complaints first: 1. The central plot device could h

Call of Duty: Modern Woodworking

I got my first welfare check in summer last year, just before I went on vacation with my parents. There are some demands placed on those applying for welfare; one is that one must not unduly refuse suggested interventions. No interventions were suggested for about six months, but hey, cash money. Then I was summoned to a meeting, where I was given a plethora of options, except eight tenths of them were second hand shops and cafes and fuck anything where I have to do customer service. Also, ever

Chrono Clock - Cro

Cro And the VN threw a curveball at me when I was thinking it was a charage all along... The first part was so fluffy I was afraid I'd float away from my desk out of the window. I cried quite some during the climax. And then cried some more in the epilogue. All that being said, the story in this route is a bit different from all the 4 other routes till this point. The situation and the setting itself was pretty crazy, but they actually went through with it. Of course, the conflicts tha

Chrono Clock - D.D.

D.D. Well, what can I say... This route felt so much better than the all other 3 routes. I think you should do yourself a favor and save this for the last, not only because this is probably the most emotions packed in it, but there's another different reason I won't spoil, and you might realize if you're reading VNs for some time. It also happens to be the most "conclusive" of the lot for obvious plot reasons. To be honest, I cried a little. Overall, based on the above 4 routes, I say

JRPG: Tales of Berseria

It has been a while since I bought a new jrpg and played it all the way through in under six months...  To be blunt, most new jrpgs just aren't worth finishing these days.  I gave up on Atelier shortly after Mana Khemia, Square hasn't produced anything interesting in ten years (for a story-addict), and most of the best old series are dead or in semi-permanent hiatus stasis.  Before this, I played Zestiria, and if you read my comments on it, I mostly liked it, though there were some aspects

Mr. Poltroon's Lack of Vocabulary #1

Despite my constant attempts at widening my vocabulary and introducing some variance to my word usage, it is doubtless that my knowledge remains meagre at best. In English and Portuguese both. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to make a series of blog posts detailing the various words, and expressions, that leave me befuddled when I fail to grasp their meaning. The greatest advantage this method confers is that I'll not only surprise everyone with how little I actually read (Visual N

Ayaya as a Doctor Review

Visual Novel Translation Status (03/11/2017) The title was very bad for this week I knew, so I'm apologize in advance for that regarding the title. About the title here, I mentioned Ayaya because of the seiyuu factor ie seiyuu joke here (By the way Ayaya (Or Komichi Aya for the real name) was from Kiniro Mosaic, and of course I'm continuing Kiniro refrence here from last week). Oh, and speaking about the seiyuu it's Risa Taneda once again who also voiced one of the heroine from Japanese Sch

One Weird Trick for Writing in Past Tense

I'm just going to jump right in and give you the answer: imagine you're telling someone a story about something that happened to you a month ago. It's that easy. Ingrain that mindset into your brain, and you, too, can write in past tense without sounding like a madman. Before I launch into an example, I do want to point out that there's nothing inherently wrong or right with writing in either the present tense or the past tense. Some things come off better in one or the other, and both are

Chrono Clock - Makoto

To be frank, I originally planned on writing a combined post on D.D. and Makoto once I finished reading both their routes, but turns out I didn't have the steam to read route after route in succession, so pardon me while I write them in separate posts. Makoto First of all, this route is much shorter than both Misaki and Michiru routes. About 2/3rd, or even close to 3/5th, I'd say, given it took 2 hours even reading slowly. That being said, honestly speaking, this route caught me o

Chrono Clock - English phrases I didn't understand

EDIT2: Well, this post seems to be drawing quite a lot of flak than I expected. To be honest, at first, I intended to use this post to list the phrases I didn't understand during the course of reading it. But due to my tone, I ended up coming off as arrogant and not willing to learn, which I won't deny. This only shows how little practical English I know. Thank you for the comments, guys. I'll put in more effort. EDIT: Before anyone misunderstands, let me first say the script is very good.

Chrono Clock - Misaki

Well, since I marathoned Misaki's route in another 3 hours after I wrote the last post, I thought I'd write about it here. Misaki Well... I admit. I am quite fond of the tsundere genre, maybe because I haven't been overexposed to it to death yet? Nevertheless, after I read this, I realised it'd have been several times harder to choose Michiru had I finished this route first. So choosing Michiru was a blessing in disguise of sorts I guess. Why? First off, maybe I am highly biased b

Chrono Clock - Common and Michiru

Well, I do seem to be jumping about different VNs, alongwith watching anime and all, but yeah, variety makes it exciting! Anyway, with Chrono Clock having been released on Steam and other platforms, and me having them, I thought of giving Purplesoft a spin. Because why not? But, first things first. It's been a while since I last read a translated VN (a couple of years I guess?), and this is an official localization of the same. So, I kind of want to get rid of that itch in my back firs

Kiniro Clock Review

Visual Novel Translation Status (03/04/2017) First of all, sorry for my very delayed VNTS Review here. As for the title, I'd quite confused at first but since we had English girl as image header and blonde at that, I decided to use Kiniro Clock which is derived from Kiniro Mosaic anime (Of course the word Clock was from Chrono Clock duh, and Kiniro mean golden ie blonde as the anime state). With that said, welcome to my belated VNTS Review here. As for this week (Well more likely last,

Suisei Ginka

Suisei Ginka is the latest VN made by Akatsuki Works, the makers of such classic VNs as Ruitomo, Comyu, and Devils Devel Concept.  This was written by Morisaki Ryoto, the writer of multiple kamige including Hapymaher, Komorebi no Nostalgica (as an assistant writer), and Re:Birth Colony.  He is one of the most flexible and skilled writers out there, and I've yet to fail to enjoy a VN he's had a hand in. This VN is based in a port city half-owned by a company that caused a disastrous chemical

VN element: Slice-of-life

One of the single biggest elements of most VNs in existence is slice-of-life.  This entire post is based on this fact, and it isn't one that can seriously be argued against by anyone who has read more than a hundred VNs. So what is slice-of-life?  With VNs, it is a type of scene where bits and pieces of daily life, without any particular conflict, are portrayed.  These can be humorous, mildly touching, or informative.  So what is the value of slice-of-life as a tool for storytelling?

Random VNs: Otomimi Infinity

Why did I pick this game to play?  Because, when I went into Shugaten, I was actually wanting a bit of charage goodness.  So, it seriously pissed me off when I got a mindless loli moege.  As a result, I decided to pull out one of my favorite fetish games, Otomimi Infinity.  Otomimi Infinity is based on island in a world where beast-people and humans live side by side (it isn't mentioned often enough to reinforce this, but the beast-people were originally artificial creations).  On the islan

Shugaten: Almost forgot

Sadly, I couldn't bring myself to finish this one... for a certain type of person (moe-addict plus lolicon) this is a heavenly game, but... it so boring for someone who actually wants some substance under the fluff.  This is one of those cases where there is no possibility whatsoever that an ending could justify me going through twelve hours of torture (four hours was enough for me to want to sell the game on Ebay...).  The biggest problem was the fact that there is no balance to the realit

Ouka Sabaki: Some preliminary comments

Because I'm a mystery-hater, there is an even chance I'll drop this VN somewhere along the line, so I'll describe what those who are interested should look at when it comes to this game. For lovers of the Ace Attorney games who don't mind or like ero content, this game is looking to be an interesting one.  Each chapter has an evidence-gathering part, followed by a part where the protagonist and his allies (I say allies because several of them are backed by outside influences or are outright

Random VNs: Ouzoku

For a lot of old fans, this is Softhouse Chara's defining masterpiece... and with good reason.  It has superb, complex gameplay that rewards careful forethought and strategic thinking and more than thirty unit types to play around with, running from common infantry to dragons.  It also has a solid story with decent storytelling (though, true to Softhouse Chara form, it isn't the focus of the game). First, I should say that the first time I played this game, I seriously screwed up in my earl

Puella Magi Mina Magica Review

Visual Novel Translation Status (02/25/2017) The title should be very obvious, especially if you're fan of Madoka. The gist of my title would be very obviously parodying very famous anime Madoka (Duh), only in the title I changed 'Madoka' to 'Mina' in the title because the girl in the image header was not Madoka of course, but rather our MC from recently released Shadows of Pygmalion Hajiro Mina. As for the Pygmalion, I played the demo already and saw some info on the internet, at Mangagame
