    Fabulous on Fuwa - February!

    By Kaguya

Introduction   Welcome, fellow Fuwamembers, to the FuwaRecognition thread. Starting this March, we’ll be highlighting some of the best contributions made by our members each month. From snazzy blog articles to delicious forum threads, and perhaps even a few things more on the shitpost part of the spectrum, we'll keep an eye out for the cream of the crop. And then we'll gather them here. Just for you.   *holds up giant APPLAUSE sign*   A-hem, so this is the f

Senren Banka Part 1

Maker: Yuzusoft Release Date: mid-2016. I had run into this VN by chance when I was looking through the ones about to come out back in May. I read the trial first, and enjoyed it a lot. Enough to pre-order the VN and collect all the goodies (sans the NSFW stuff of course). This VN is set in a fictional modern-day town in Japan that happened to escape modernization and has only recently started coming in contact with the normal world. Our protagonist arrives there initially to help

What this blog is supposed to be about

Let  me put down a few clarifying points regarding this blog. I kind of felt that I had to write down my feelings about VNs I read somewhere, and this seems to be a nice place for the same. I also drew much of my inspiration from Clephas, who is my guru when it comes to VNs (I proclaim this myself). 0. This blog is NOT a review or what-to-read-next-recommendations site. This is only about the VNs I read and want to write about. Besides, I have got nowhere enough experience to be doing

Yomegami

I'm going to say this straight out... Awesome job, Alcot!!!  There is a peculiar balance needed to make the perfect fantasy story-focused charage... and it has literally been years since the last time a VN has managed it.  I should know, since I play everything fantasy that isn't a nukige and some that are.  Alcot's formula of comedy (in particular sexual comedy and situational comedy) is pretty straightforward and easy to enjoy, going across cultural lines fairly easily.  As such, it

Future

Since this week had no noteworthy progress being made, I decided to do this instead of a regular update and splitting percentages. The Future Current Projects Let’s talk about release dates. Note that these are only estimation based on pure calculations and logic and will not be final nor necessary truthful under any circumstances. As I’ve stated before, I would’ve fancied this proje

ChuSinGura Chapter 1 impressions

So, the past week I have been reading ChuSinGura 46+1, and surprised myself by blowing through 仮名手本忠臣蔵編 (basically, chapter 1,) in under a week. Between the length of the game, as well as the difficult samurai speech patterns and complicated edo-period political schemes, it certainly is the most challenging VN I have read in Japanese as of yet. Anywanys, as the game is so bloody long, and the chapters can somewhat be considered self contained, I just wanted to write something about my impression

Preview for November releases

For those who are wondering, this is a list of VNs I'm planning to at least sample.   Yomegami Ryakudatsuha no Inen (seriously, despite the fact that it is an obvious trap) Gokukano (giving this a chance, in case it isn't a nukige) Natsuiro Koi Uta Karenai Sekai to Owaru Hana (no idea what this is about, since the Getchu and official pages are somewhat vague) Suki to Suki to de Sankaku Ren'ai     Right now, I'm playing Yomegami, having completed

Shokugeki no Brian - St. Michael Spring Election Review

Visual Novel Translation Status (11/26/2016) I knew that the title for this week was quite confusing at that, and sorry for being very late here. I'll just explained the title on PS later, and let me try to talk about this week VNTS. This week, there were seven releases like VNTS state, although for Shuffle to be honest I'm not following close enough here except at least I knew it was like Dracu Riot patch situation ie released and then deleted from the Steam (I might be wrong here tho

Bad Fapanese: A Bathroom Diary (11月24日)

Well, long time no content here, eh. So, uhh, I started writing a diary when I poop. But it’s in bad Fapanese. I have some faint hope that seeing my amusing stumbles might inspire you to practice writing in Japanese. Yes, you over there in my target audience of maybe one person. The actual content of this entry is unlikely to inspire anyone, so it’s all the better that nobody will understand it anyway. For authenticity (and hopefully showing that it’s ok to mess up a bit or something) I have pr

King of the Monsters 1 & 2

King of the Monsters                                                                                                                     Japanese monsters beating the hell out of each other in a fight to the death has been projected in the Japanese theaters all the way back in the early half of the 20th century. Being the 90’s kings of the arcade SNK decided to take their hand at the monster brawl formula and made King of the Monsters. King of the Monsters is a 2D fighting game bu

Reminiscence Collectors Edition Part 2: Recollect

ReCollect is the direct sequel to the original game, based on a 'normal' ending where certain major events in Aki's, Accela's, and Kizuna's paths never came to fruition.  In fact, it is based off of a romance-less version of Aika's path, as the events in the last part of her path (before the romance/lovers thing) occur immediately before the story begins.  So, if you've played Reminiscence but not ReCollect yet, it would be wise to use the update patch to activate Aika's path so you can get to k

Writing is Hard (Sometimes)

So this year I've taken to writing some independent OELVN pieces, two freebies that have both gone on some sort of hiatus and one paid one that I'm nearing completion of. One of the freebies the project lead kind of had her own vision for what I was writing (and I was too verbose). The other the lead liked what I wrote and even had a demo made of it. You can view it on YouTube. I did the writing, and yes, it's based on the anime "Free!" No money changed hands, in case you were wondering, and my

[Changed] Reminiscence Collectors Edition part 1: Reminiscence

I picked up the Reminiscence Collectors Edition, despite the fact that I already possessed the original game, primarily so I could see how they altered things.  To be blunt, the changes so far - having finished Rin's, Nozomi's, and Aki's routes - are a lot less than is indicated on the site.  The typos I vaguely remembered from my first and second playthroughs are no longer present, Rin and Nozomi both got minor (very minor) touch-ups to their paths, and there are a few added scenes in the commo

Best Visual Novel Writers and Storytellers

After reading Clephas’ recent blog update I decided to rip him off was inspired to do something similar. My own experience with visual novel is not as vast as his so go read his blog, his list is awesome and is way more interesting, so just give up reading this and go to his blog -__- Every work should be judged on its own no matter who the writer is but it’s impossible, in my opinion, not to rely on those writers that really speak to us, those that know how to push our buttons and inspi

Restart

Truly, I am sorry. The last update was three weeks ago, and in that period of time, I’ve had a bunch of things happen to me, both good and bad.    First up, I was facing a little bit of an identity crisis after two, three years of nothing of the sort. Now, this was quite big, which did block my progress for a while, but I still got some done and posted an update that week. The after-shocks, however, did ripple for a bit longer. Worry not, I’m all over it, and a better pe

Welcome to Carlyle Review

Visual Novel Translation Status (11/19/2016) Welcome to my VNTS Review for this week, and as for the title since we had Enigma as the image header I thought that I'll just using the setting from Enigma (Carlyle) to made the word akin to the welcome at When They Cry series (They had 'Welcome to Hinamizawa' for Higurashi and 'Welcome to Rokkenjima' for Umineko). As for the VN, congratulations to Fruitbat Factory and PhleBuster as the employee of Fruitbat Factory (Or should I said Phlebas who

Clephas' list of high-quality writers: Tier One

I think we can all agree I've read a lot of VNs. *waits for audience laughter with a smile* *looks sad when the audience laughter recording doesn't work* Anyway, over the years I've encountered a lot of writers.  Some were mediocre, others were decent, yet others were good... and some were just great. I decided to list the writers I honestly think have a lot of talent and whose works are something we, as VN fans, should at least keep an eye on.  Tier One presents writers who are '

Fatal Fury Series - Part 1

Fatal Fury: King of Fighters The fighting and shmup games were the most popular genres among both the hardcore and the mainstream gamers in the 90’s. The fighting game genre can be traced way back to the 80’s but it is Capcom’s Street Fighter 2 where the storm really began. Street Fighter 2 was on a completely different scale and blew everything that came before it. Nobody thought a video game could reach this kind of amazing quality. Many companies where getting on the hype train and

Signalist Stars and VN of the Month, October 2016

Signalist Stars came at me from out of left field, smashing me across the face with a spike grenade.   I literally wasn't expecting anything from this VN, as my recent experiences with new companies have left me unwilling to hope for better.  This VN does, in my mind, fall into the charage genre, but it does it so well that I was left a bit stunned.  Signalist Stars is based in a city where people who have a burning passion are encouraged to pursue it, regardless of what it is.  In this cit

Gusha no Kyouben [UPDATED]

First, I should say that I have no taste for loli-shota whatsoever, so I'm going to drop this now that I've finished one of the paths and gotten a feel for what this VN is like.  So... this turned out to actually be a loli-shota game, despite my hopes otherwise.  I have no idea of what Akabeisoft is thinking, turning its main child brand into a sub-brand that produces random games, but I can honestly say that I wish they would stick to one or two genres... Now, this is one VN that has no bu

Unionism Quartet A-3 Days

I'm going to be frank... for people who liked the original game and those who didn't, this is a waste of time.  Do I sound like a jerk?  I'm not trying to be... I don't think I've ever come across such a weak direct sequel (since it really is a full game).  I sampled one of the new heroines, one of the main heroines from the original game, one of the secondary heroines from the original game, one of the sub-heroines from the original game, and one of the 'extra' heroines from the original game (

Letter from Nippon Review

Visual Novel Translation Status (11/12/2016) This week title should be obviously that I just combine 'Nippon' from 'Go Go Nippon' and Letter from 'Root Letter'. Besides I think there's some writing that using 'Letter from ....' in some newspaper at least iirc. Well, here's this week VNTS Review and to tell the truth I kind of expected that Mangagamer will bring many updates this week, but apparently not so it's slightly letdown. Lack of batch of update aside, at least there's some up from M

What am I doing right now? Mid-November Editioin

For those who are wondering, I am currently replaying Unionism Quartet before moving on to A3 Days.  It has been long enough that I didn't recall most of the details, so I needed a refresher.  At the same time, I'm playing Dishonored 2, so I'm dividing my time in half between VNs and gaming right now.  I don't plan on doing a full post solely on Unionism Quartet, so I'm going to just relate a few impressions here before I finish Yulia's path (I already finished Silvia's, Jubei's, Yuno's and

Ghost in the Shell 2 : Man-Machine Interface

Ghost is the Shell 2 is not a complete continuation of the previous manga. Masamune Shirow planned it be a standalone work but still feel like a semi-sequel. The original story was pretty much complete and it’s welcoming to see a fresh story. It opens the way to explore some new but equality interesting ideas. Shirow even planned to change one of the title kanji to indicate a slight difference between this and the previous work. “I would also like to thank the people, who have waitd for 10
