QUANTUM SUICIDE [RELEASED ON STEAM IN 2020]
XReaper and 2 others reacted to Cotton Candy Cyanide for a topic
A Visual Novel set in Space. Fulfill your duty. Fall in love. Betray your friends. Get murdered by an A.I. Welcome aboard the Everett. OVERVIEW Quantum Suicide by Cotton Candy Cyanide is inspired by story-driven Japanese Visual Novels such as Danganronpa, and the Virtues Last Reward series. In Quantum Suicide, you play as a researcher aboard a spaceship on an epic mission to find humanity a new home. You have the ability to choose your name and gender, a choice that can change your destiny from the very beginning. Quantum Suicide contains 6 courtable options (3 females, 3 males). With their own hopes, desires, personalities, and sexual preferences, you will have to move carefully to earn each character's affections. Each courtable character has at least three posed sprites, each with multiple facial expressions. In addition, all characters are partially voiced by professional Japanese voice actors. Boasting over 50+ hours of gameplay, you must navigate your way through over 30 different endings, including bad, good, and true endings for all courtable options. Each week, you are thrown into The Deletion Game where you must battle for your survival through a series of puzzles and strategy mini-games as you attempt to see the Everett's mission through to the end...alive. Quantum Suicide is a commercial game scheduled for sale on Steam late 2017. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cccn/quantum-suicide-a-visual-novel-in-space-kill-or-be http://www.mediafire.com/download/7x9xbsqzhjgsscs/QuantumSuicide-all.zip http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=556943619 STORY The year is now 2117. You are a second generation ship-born researcher studying inter-dimensional travel. Your choices change the fortunes of all aboard the Everett. Friendship and love lay waiting at your feet, but you should be wary. The road to the stars is full of hardship. A malprogrammed A.I. dedicated to preserving resources pulls you into a twisted, murderous game. When tensions are high, who knows what even the kindest crew member will do? How will you protect those you love? Will you betray friends to save yourself? Will you be slaughtered in cold, empty space? Will you slaughter? It's time to ask yourself: what would you do to survive? CHARACTER ART Quantum Suicide's lead artist is Ygor Lisboa aka Danzzila. We were drawn to him for his wonderful, expressive Japanese style and he is responsible for our character design, sprites, and CG art. Each main character has three poses, with three expressions per pose. Supporting characters currently only have one pose, with multiple expressions. BACKGROUND ART Ah, background art. You are hardly given the credit you deserve but as soon as you are lacking, it becomes apparent. The interior of the Everett was designed with a sparse, military practicality in mind, but we also wanted it to be atmospheric and vivid enough to be visually interesting for the player. To get the best art, you have to go to the best artist so we went to background extraordinaire, Owen Carson. The scenes capture the beauty of the ship, the wonder of space, and the eerieness of a closed circuit situation. With at least 20 variations for the background to date (with plans for a few extra for the few game), the Everett will come alive, even if you don't stay that way! GRAPHIC USER INTERFACE Our Game User Interface (GUI) is designed to be intuitive, and add to the overall science fiction tone of the game. Further screens such as CG Gallery, Music Player, Mini-Games, Archive Files, and Bonus Content are to be added as the game is created. The Quantum Suicide Logo and the GUI were designed by the talented Luna Chai Li. MUSIC What would intergenerational space travel be without a great soundtrack? Quiet. No one wants quiet. Quiet is scary, and cold, and sad. To ensure that your travels among the stars is not a quiet affair, we've had a soundtrack lovingly crafted by our talented musicians. We've been lucky enough to be given permission to use the song 変異個体-ГЕNЕ- by SEVERUS WAND for our atmospheric trailer currently in production but we also have a complete Original Soundtrack by Wojciech Wojnowski. ABOUT US Cotton Candy Cyanide (CCCN-) is made up of two people: Ashley Pearson (Nyx) and Tina Richards (MoltenCherry). We often go by our gamer tags. We created CCCN- to create games that we, ourselves, wanted to play. Both of us greatly enjoy games such as Dangan Ronpa, Virtue's Last Reward, and Persona; games that challenge us, make us fall in love with characters, and then break our hearts. Unfortunately, we found these sorts of titles scarce in the Western gaming market. While Steam has been exploding with visual novels recently, we wanted to create something a little darker than a slice of life, romantic novel. We've got 'Cyanide' in our name for a reason. WHY ARE WE POSTING ON FUWANOVEL There are a multitude of reasons that we are posting on the Fuwanovel Forums. Firstly, we are hoping that by posting here we might gain some support from people as passionate about Visual Novels as we are. As many of you know, creating a game isn't always rainbows and butterflies. We find it really comforting to know that we have a community behind us. Secondly, we've put a lot of money, and time, and love into Quantum Suicide. This is our first project and we are trying our very hardest to make Quantum Suicide the highest quality product possible. Now that we are approaching the end of our initial 'concept' phase, we are simply bursting at the seams with excitement to share our project with you! If you are interested, it would truly mean the world to us if you would back us on Kickstarter or upvote us on Steam Greenlight. And finally, if you would like to stay up to date with the progress of Quantum Suicide, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter.3 points -
Akihabara Guidebook Kickstarter Page Creation
Tyrael and one other reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
Hey Fuwanovel, I want to launch the Kickstarter for my Akihabara guidebook soon and I need some help. I messaged a few people (including InvertMouse who has done a lot of these), and was hoping someone would be interested in helping me set up a page and discussing what kinds of goals I could make. I have an idea of how I want to start things, but could always use someone to work with. If anyone is good at this sort of thing and is interested at all, please let me know via PM! I plan to look around my old college campus for interest as well.2 points -
Considering someone who reaches the denpasoft page is a person who we can assume can read and understand the english language (although probably in a very crude way for some of them), can you explain me how would anyone think "unrated" means "uncensored"?2 points

First, for those wondering how I found time to do this... Fallout 4 is not a game you can play in small bits, so any time when I had less than four hours consecutively free, I went for this instead (generally it was twenty to thirty minute bouts during lunch, dinner, and breakfast, as well as an hour right before bed). For those wondering what I thought of the original, here is a link to the post in my thread: http://forums.fuwanovel.net/topic/2086-clephas-vn-of-the-month/?page=8#comment-159994 Now, first I'm going to say this game is generally better than the original. I make this statement straight-out because this one fixes a lot - though not all - of the complaints I had with the original, without disposing of what was best about it. The protagonist is generally more active/has more of an effect on the world around him, and he is a lot less of a non-entity, thus putting his character setting to at least some use. This VN follows a different heroine as canon for each heroine route, so I'll list which heroines from the first one were chosen to reach the events in each heroine path in this one here. Kana>Alysticia Haruhi>Usagi Sera>Masshiro Yuzuki>Tateha In many ways, the heroines in this one follow the same pattern as the original. Alys and Masshiro are both ojousamas, Usagi is an idol, and Tateha is the 'futsuuko' of the game. Also similarly, the heroines' deredere-ness is off the charts once the protagonist becomes their lover. In particular, Masshiro is a bit freaky that way. There is a fifth heroine, Anna, but she is a sub-heroine whose path lasts about twenty minutes, so I'm not going to bother covering her here. Similar to the original, the two presidential councils (seitokai) face off against one another in 'elections' where their competing ideas are looked over and picked by the students. There are some differences... such as the fact that the deadlock at the beginning in this one is caused by bloc votes from the cultural and sports clubs and that Gekka's school president is not a charismatic individual (most people are - unjustifiably - terrified of her, and Masshiro is generally considered the face of the council) and Usagi, the idol who leads Tendou is not pushing fun like a dealer with a new, profitable drug like Haruhi in the original was. This deliberate toning down of the general capabilities and the overenthusiasm of the two councils allowed the protagonist to step forward more in this one, allowing him to actually be something other than just a catalyst for events. For this reason, it was much easier to get behind his eyes and enjoy the story than the original. On the down side, this means that there wasn't really an absolute defining heroine, like Haruhi was in the original. In exchange, Mokomoko-san (also known as Alysticia) has the best 'issues' in her path. Her psychological/social issue is pretty obvious from early on, and it is the defining issue with every story element dealing with her. In many ways, this follows a pattern drawn after than of Shino from Uruwashi no, though it is far less severe and the heroine in general is actually interested in 'fixing' herself from the very beginning. Unfortunately, the very fact that that one heroine has pretty deep issues (Usagi also has some nice drama) outlines how weak in terms of non-romantic issues Masshiro and Tateha's paths are. I'd honestly thought Masshiro's path would turn into a typical ojousama drama... for the first five minutes after the drama began, until it concluded (at the end of those five minutes). Unfortunately (since I actually like that particular trope) that didn't happen, and the path itself was defined mostly by endless ichaicha and (as usual well-done) H-scenes. Tateha's path... is just dry of anything interesting, probably because they put all that effort into developing Usagi and Alys. Overall, for those looking for a good charage with great visual and musical quality, this one is an excellent choice... just don't expect brilliance where you are guaranteed to get average-quality.1 point

G-Senjou no Maou: Fan TL vs Sekai TL
Mr Poltroon reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
I should make a quick point regarding the art assets. I’m currently playing through Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition, and I discovered that the cutscenes weren’t reworked with modern art like the 1st Baldur’s Gate:EE. This was because people complained when Beamdog changed and modernised the cutscenes in the first game. So what was the response when Beamdog left the cutscenes alone in BG2:EE? People complained, of course. And that's a good example of how you can’t please everybody. Regarding the art assets, it’s nice to have different options for people who prefer different things. But I’m against the idea of having CG’s be ‘scrollable’, having to scroll through art assets breaks immersion when you’re reading and you’re unable to take in a scene in one go, you gotta scroll and interpret it in pieces. There’s a reason companies don’t do that. Definitely not my thing, but other people could be happy with it.1 point -
I think the biggest advantage when it comes to Fan TLs is flexibility to do what you want. And I'm not just talking schedule wise, I think the ability to continuously alter your scripts based on direct feedback is something I believe official translations tend to lack. Of course a company can talk to their costumers, but there's always an element of distance between a company and the consumer, who's role is typically just waiting around for the product to be out. With Fan TLs though, you tend to actively interact with the staff, and often help them by testing their game and providing corrections, this helps the final product to be improved by the fans for the fans. However, Fan TLs can easily lack on the quality side because of that same flexibility. Official translations, if done by competent companies, will always have professionals who's sole work is to translate, and do it as good as possible so they can deliver the story in the best way they can. They also have access to official assets and game code which can greatly help in bringing the game to a Western audience. In this specific case, almost everything has been improved from a technical standpoint, although I have heard the translation/editing suffered, but I can't confirm this myself. But assuming the translation quality wasn't affected, I think this game in particular can only gain from being updated by SP, save for the fact content was cut from it. Fan translation is superior. Big uncut CG scenes, no cutted out h-content, easily changeable font. Only benefit official have is widescreen, but I plan to do a patch for that also for fan TL one day, this is not a big problem actually. >Tfw translation quality doesn't even factor in. So the translation could be shit so long as the porn is there?1 point

G-Senjou no Maou: Fan TL vs Sekai TL
RikiSanic reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
The majority of people know the difference, actually. Also anybody with experience with the TV medium definitely knows the difference, and everybody in Australia and parts of Europe who previously didn't have an 18+ rating definitely is familiar with the terms. define:unrated - (of a film) not allocated an official classification due to its level of sexually explicit material. Which comes to the crux of the matter. 'Unrated' is a term usually used to describe a piece of media with explicit sexual content that does not have a rating. I will state categorically that anybody with even a decent amount of exposure to the TV mediums understand this. So why did Sekai put 'unrated' and not 'uncensored'? Because it is a piece of entertainment that does not have a rating due to its explicit sexual content, but it has been censored by the Japanese devs. Why is this act suddenly an act of deception? It is incredibly clear.1 point -
G-Senjou no Maou: Fan TL vs Sekai TL
Silvz reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
As a consumer of games and electronic media for close to 3 decades now, I really don't buy the "warning the consumer angle." Sorry. The default expectations of the consumer when bringing over games from another country is that the game arrives in the same condition as it was in Japan, not that it's been magically enhanced. MangaGamer tries to go above and beyond to give out as much information as possible, and to cater to their core fanbase, but this isn't the behaviour of most companies and I don't buy the excuse that Sekai were preying on unsuspecting consumers. 'Censorship' technically means what Pabloc says, that is true. Unfortunately when publishers of foreign media plaster 'censored' on their website, consumers tend to infer that it has been additionally censored during the process of localisation. So it's a case of one word with two possible meanings, and that might be why Sekai are reluctant to do so. Shooting off a quick question should solve the issue... provided Sekai answers. But not giving the consumer all the information is quite common. I'm in a bad internet state, so I'm really annoyed with Telltale's new habit of releasing 'season pass discs' instead of having episodes stores on the discs like the good old days. Game of Thrones PC edition has 1 episode on the disc, and you have to download the rest. They don't have this information plastered on the cover, the consumer has to hunt for the information, and I'm glad I wasn't caught unaware like some people have. Providing all information relevant to all consumers is quite impossible, so they only put up information they deem pertinent for the audience they're targeting. Telltale has always targeted the digital audience, so they don't feel their new policy is that big a deal. My gut reaction is Sekai's aiming for the all-ages crowd, so taking additional time to redesign their website just to say 'we haven't modified our game from the Japanese', which to be fair has always been the default assumption, could be seen as something of low priority. I don't buy the 'Sekai - deceiving consumers' angle people are trying to peddle. @Scorp: As for the 'cropped CGs' business, it's honestly because most people don't care (unless it deletes important pieces of information.)1 point -

Whoa! You should play the bad endings. No need to re-play it, just go back to the last choice and choose the other option. The bad endings are rather short, and worth it. Amane´s route actually has plot that you dont get to see unless you play the bad ending. Yumiko´s has a … rather special case as well for the "bad" ending. Sachi, Michiru and Makina will just leave you emotionally damaged though. No real need to play those unless you want to be emotionally damaged I guess. I like emotionally damaging myself so I'll probably go play those endings when I have time today.1 point -

Best Vanilla Hentai
minuore reacted to Abyssal Monkey for a topic
Well, hentai in the english community refers to anime with sex. Although hentai just means pervert in Japanese. Is there a hentai VN? Aren't they just nukige? Oh ya, quick question, what is considered moege? Galette's products counted? Did a quick search, I'm surprised tag 'moege' in vndb is deleted, explains why never saw one. Hentai in the english community most commonly refers to hentai doujins, of which there are thousands of times more of. See http://g.e-hentai.org/ for more.1 point -

G-Senjou no Maou: Fan TL vs Sekai TL
Dergonu reacted to CryingWestern for a topic
Japanese law states that any pornographic material must be censored with in its borders. That's why Mosaic Censor is used in Pornographic materials (Porn films, Porn mags, etc.). There are some other materials that censorship is more lenient on, like bars, invisible genitals or not showing of the genitals at all. You'll never see uncensored material from japan, unless it's officially done(western companies will redraw the footage), someone from the unknown will try to do one of their own, or the author takes a risk and uploads it but on a western site.1 point -

Best Game of 2015
Narcosis reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
Keep a Ren vs Okami ‘discussion’ on the forum? That’s an interesting idea… there’s an old Penny Arcade comic that’s pretty applicable in this instance. The Witcher 3 will most definitely win most GOTY awards. The sheer scope of the world, the detail of the world, the marriage of an open world RPG with a compelling storyline (that’s really well written,) gorgeous visuals and audio, a semi-decent c&c system, the combat is fairly engaging (or at least improved over Witcher 2) – it’s just colossal in every department. But the negatives are also there, a diluted RPG design, stock-standard quests, combat is slightly less of a rolling-simulator but there’s still plenty of it. Overall, its strengths are the game world, its story, and the visuals/audio, with RPG mechanics, and gameplay down on my list of negatives. That won’t matter to a lot of people however, and this will easily top everybody’s charts. It’s a behemoth. But Pillars of Eternity has my vote. I think it offers a step forward in the realm of RPG design, while offering strong strategic gameplay married with a deep and complex world. It’s isometric and old-school though, so expect to see it up there on a lot of old-school or hardcore publications. Good time to be an RPG fan after a decade (2002 – 2012) of almost nothing.1 point -

Which VN character(s) have your favorite character development?
XReaper reacted to Chronopolis for a topic
Minami from Soshite Ashita no Sekai Yori (Not sure if it was that much character development, but she goes from carefree to crushed to overcoming that which was a cool drama to watch) Caim's development in Aiyoku no Eustia (particularly in the chapters other than the last). Maimi (the MC) from Mugen Renkan ~Chijoku ni Mamireshi Fushiki no Rinbu~ . Just a staggering amount of character growth. The whole VN is centered around her story, after all.1 point -

brazil version of spanish language. also he could be faking it, after all he never said there was a video where he did it. Yeah, we definitely speak Spanish here in Brazil dude. Let me try to use my brazillian spanish, looks like communicating is better through this. Streams en hitbox guardan todas las transmisións, pero Ren puede ter inhabilitado esta función. De toda manera él dicho que habian algunas personas mirándolo, talvez algun deles podía validar lo que Ren habia dito. Yup, and that's brazillian portuguese for you folks, see ya next time when I'll write a whole essay.1 point

What sucked there was the emo period he had after Kamina died and he swore to become his own person so to speak. In the end he became a carbon copy of Kamina. Thats what makes a good character development imo. And you obviously cant surpass the emo moments without going emo in the first place. lol My point only was that you're not yourself when you're emulating someone else.1 point

The zips are bins(each of which is part of a routes script) I send kardo after fixing the initial errors he located, for retesting. We repeat this until the bin is as perfect as we can get it, then move on to the next one. Benkei has 33 bins. There are 3 misc bins, 19 sayaka bins, and eventually 31 Azumi bins. Each needs initial testing, fixes, and later QC. Essentially, we are puush's worst nightmare. This is the folder I use for editing. I imagine kardo's is bigger, since I delete some stuff as I go(old zips).1 point

Learning Japanese - Useful resources
Chronopolis reacted to Amon for a topic
I'm able to read a VN without problems (2,5 years self-study, 10.000 individual words learned), but I wouldn't be able to hold a simple conversation, simply because I never practiced it. You can have a near-fluent passive language-ability (reading, hearing), but that doesn't guarantee a sufficient active language-ability (speaking, writing). That's nothing surprising. It's the basic difference between recall and creation. Your course of action should depend on your goal. I never intended to actually speak a lot Japanese, so I focused my study on learning vocabs and a skimming through some grammar. If you just want to read VNs, a good spaced repetition system (Anki), a good grammar guide (imabi.net), exposition to the language (Anime subbed or even jap-subbed) and willpower (continuing to read untranslated even though it's a hassle in the beginning; doing your daily reviews) is all you need. I've never even done a single school-like exercise. --- On a sidenote: I don't recommend Memrise as a SRS anymore. The devs have no clue what they are doing with their site.1 point -

In Windows 10, go to Settings > System > Apps & Features > Manage optional features. From there, click Add a Feature and install the Japanese Supplemental Fonts. Fresh Windows 10 installs need to do this for many Japanese games to work properly. Also, it seems like you may be using the fan translated version. I would suggest installing the JAST version, this probably wouldn't be an issue with that. Also, because 1) You should support official localizations of good games like Saya no Uta, and 2) The translation has been refined and improved by a noticeable degree.1 point

From what one of the editors said on Steam, apparently their censorship is limited pretty much only to pictures - text is almost unaltered and the sex still remains in the story (it just isn't explicitly shown), so the plot shouldn't be affected. At least that's what he claims. And yeah, the poor job at cropping is AkabeiSoft's fault, not Sekai's. But... so what? It doesn't change the fact it's a cut version with not-that-great, cropped "HD". And since AkabeiSoft only made an all-ages "HD" version (so - no "HD" H-CGs), the chances for an English 18+ release are very slim. Buying it does NOT support "releasing VNs on the West". It supports the practice of releasing ONLY censored, Steam-DRM-ridden versions of originally 18+ VNs with no choice whatsoever. Because why bother with uncut releases, when people will buy whatever you throw at them anyway?1 point

JUST FUCKING PLAY IT ITS FUCKING DISGUSTING IN THE BEST WAY EVER! seriously, the more I play through the trial, the more I love it. Also the BGM tries to be faithful to the style of the OP in the combat scenes which is extremely rare in VNs and it works beautifully. the soundtrack overall is basically 9/10 close to the best OST I have ever heard.1 point -

Location is actually one of the things I never lie about on the interwebs. I'm from Portugal, just like my profile says~ We should have some kind of survey to check users' nationality sometime, seems like it'd be interesting. I know Fuwanovel's facebook page is more popular in Indonesia than in the USA (in terms of gross users) which is pretty surprising.1 point
