Well nobody probably noticed, but I have not been posting for pretty much the entire year. I did lurk around the site though. As for why, well it has been a pretty hectic year. In the last quarter of my third study year my mother got diagnosed with breast cancer and that really took up most of my time last summer, together with assuring I did not flunk anything. Well afterwards during summer vacation I was basically in charge of the household, as my mother just had her surgery and was starting on chemotherapy. She did not react well to it and got herself a urine way infection and spend the next two weeks in the hospital. After the summer vacation I was busy again with school this time for my final year and having to deal with my minor, as well as a lot of stress at home. After the second term I had to start on my internship and on my bachelors thesis, which basically comes down to a full work week. My mother was still recovering at that point and I did not get along with my supervisor, which did not help with all the stress. Somehow or another I still managed to succeed and get my bachelor, still haven't quite figured out how I managed to do it. So yeah I managed to get my bacherlor in chemistry. Only thing left now is to decide what to do afterwards. Still have not quite figured out what to do next. I am torn between finding a job and going for a master in chemistry. I just cant seem to make my mind up about it, working sounds like a good decision but I wont be earning as much as I would with a masters degree. On the other hand if I go for my masters degree, I will have to start living on my own (no problem there), but I will also have to pay for that all. Which will mean I have to start borrowing, and that will probably amount to 30.000- 40.000 euro which to me is quite the sum. I just cant seem to figure out what the right decision is. (Note it was not my parents paying for everything, were I come from you get studiefincanciering for 4 years or the length of your study which covers most of the costs minus any material needs.) I just needed to get that off my chest for a bit. That and brag a little bit .5 points

In actual news, I've finished porting demo of Aiyoku no Eustia today - demo quality (lacks some fancy animations), but playable altogether. It uses newer BGI engine. Obligatory screenshot: Ports and engine-specific tools are published at: https://github.com/mnakamura1337/engine_bgi - engine-specific tools https://github.com/mnakamura1337/port_eustia - Eustia-specific scripts, metadata, etc (basically, they call "engine_bgi" stuff with proper arguments, that's all) More documentation will probably follow. If anyone wants to take a look without doing all the conversion with scripts on your box - PM me, as usual.3 points

The Devil Is Not Home [18+] - Progress 8/31/16
Forgetful Frank and one other reacted to Gauzra for a topic
Under development by EggDev. Synopsis Satan has urgent matters to attend to and must leave Hell! He is unsure that the demons will properly live up to his expectations in his absence and be able to truly represent what Hell is. To remedy the situation he decides to issue a true test of demonic will power. The Chaos Championship An all out competition between the three highest ranking demons in Hell to see who can destroy and spread what Satan will deem as true Chaos. The victor is offered their very own circle of Hell to rule over. An entire domain personalized to their tastes, no request too large! Faced with this irresistible offer, Jaya, Meridia and Kijo agree to undertake the challenge in order to prove which one of them is the greatest demon in all of Hell. The Demons Meridia Resident bookworm and owner of the nicest hair in all of Hell. A stern believer in rules and an aspiring writer. (Rumor has it her books aren't very good) Her ghostly companion follows her wherever she goes and tries to keep her safe. (Emphasis on tries.) She decides that using demons is the best way to win the Chaos Championship. What better way to raise Hell than using Hell itself? Sprite Jaya - (PROMO ART COMING SOON) Brash and difficult to handle, Jaya acts before she thinks and has a huge appetite. Physically the strongest of all demons and she is usually seen bragging about it. She decides to invade Heaven in an attempt to win the Chaos Championship. Sprite Kijo The demon with the split personality. Incredibly lazy and always wanting to sleep. Everything is too much of a hassle and she has a difficult time controlling her sudden personality flips. Ends up drawing the short straw and has to go to Earth in order to attempt to win the Chaos Championship. Sprite Other Characters Coming Soon! The EggDev Team We are a married couple that has dabbled in gamedev before. One day we decided to actually devote to it when we were able to afford a sandwich from our old crappy flash games. Gauzra In charge of all the writing/music and actual programming of the game. Fortunately I've got a bit of experience with audio and music and have worked in IT, giving me a somewhat rounded skill set. Zombzilla The in house artist. Been drawing since she was about 12 or 13 years old. Huge work load on her for all art assets but we are progressing at a rapid pace. Additionally responsible for ghost writing and catching any mistakes I make. (There are a lot of them.) Progress Report - 6/28/16 Progress Report - 8/31/16 It's been a while since we've posted an update, we recently moved states and it took us about a month to finally get everything together and back on track. Never fear though, we've got a mockup teaser with a completed background. Hope you guys enjoy bright colors! Social Media and More Little bits and pieces of our day to day work can be found on Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr. You guys should follow us for instant updates! Twitter Instagram Tumblr We are planning on completing an 18+ version and a SFW version that will be hopefully releasable on Steam. There is also the possibility of taking our idea to kickstarter but there are no solid plans for that in place yet. At least not until we have more completed CG's and are further along production. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Stay tuned!2 points -

Ojounana Character Special: Yuuzenji Tsurumi
Chronopolis and one other reacted to Clephas for a blog entry
Those of you who are familiar with Ojousama wa Gokigen Naname will probably wonder, "Why did he just introduce a non-heroine character before anyone else?" The reason is fairly simple... this is a game that is defined at least as much by its antagonist as its protagonist and heroines. This one of about a dozen VNs I'm replaying in parallel (as the mood takes me), and it is one of my favorites... as well as one of the two reasons I keep playing Ensemble games, even though they've made nothing but shit for the past three years. I'll let her introduce herself first, with a translated excerpt from her intro scene. 鶴美「はしたないなんて、そんな意地悪言わないで? 私は仕方ないの」 Tsurumi "Don't be mean by calling me 'vulgar'. I'm hopeless. 鶴美「だってね」 Tsurumi "After all..." たっぷりともったいつけ、今度は最高の笑顔を浮かべて、言った。 She took a long pause, giving me her best smile, and spoke. 鶴美「私はお金が大好きです♪」 Tsurumi "I love money!" 鶴美「子供の時も文集に、将来の夢『お金になりたい』って 書いたくらい、お金が大好きよ」 Tsurumi "I love money so much that I wrote that 'I want to become money' in an essay as a child." 鶴美「だから、仕方がないの」 Tsurumi "So, there is nothing that can be done about me. 元「……」 Hajime "..." 鶴美「世の中の人は、人生はお金じゃないなんて 平気で嘘をつくけど、私は素直で純真なだけなんだ と思うわ」 Tsurumi "People always lie with a straight face by saying that life isn't about money, but I think I'm just frank and pure. 鶴美「私はお金を手に入れるためならなんだってするし、 1秒でも早く、1円でもたくさん欲しい」 Tsurumi "I'll do anything to get more money, and I want as much money as possible as fast as possible. 鶴美「お金より愛が大事だなんていう人は、 貯金を全部私にくれてもいいと思うの、ねえ」 Tsurumi "I think that people say love is more important than money should give me their savings, don't you?" 鶴美「私、誰かのお財布から根こそぎ洗いざらい、 何もかも奪い取るのって、だぁ~い好き♪」 Tsurumi "I love nothing more than stealing everything from the insides of another person's wallet! 鶴美「それでも“愛”は残してあげるんだから、 それも許されるって思わない?」 Tsurumi "But I leave them 'love', so don't you think I can be forgiven?" 日本どころか、世界の長者番付の常連になるような人間が、何を言うのか。 It was hard to believe that I was hearing this from a person whose name was on not only Japan's richest people but those of the world as awhole. 『富める者は、庶民に奉仕する』 "'Those with wealth must do service to the masses.'" 本物の金持ちは、金に執着しないもの。だが、この人は生まれついての金の亡者だ。 True aristocrats aren't excessively attached to money. However, this person is a born money-grubber. この人が誰かに『愛してる』と囁く時。 When this person says that she 'loves' someone... ――それは根こそぎ奪ってやるぞ、という合図である。 ... it is another word for 'I am going to steal everything you own'. 何より恐ろしいのは、愛してるというのが決して嘘ではないという点だ。 More frightening than anything is the fact that she isn't lying when she says she loves someone. この女はお金をくれるというだけで――たとえ、実際には奪い取っただけだったとしても、 This woman, if someone gives her money or even if she steals it... その人物を心の底から愛することが出来る。怪物なのだ。 She is a monster capable of loving them from the bottom of her heart... おかげで隠し子がいるといういかがわしい噂まで立つほどだが、それだけは絶対にありえないと断言してもいい。 Because of that, dubious rumors abound about her having an illegitimate child, but I can say that is impossible without a doubt. 鶴美は、異性でも、子供でもなく、お金そのものを愛しているからだ。 Tsurumi does not love the opposite sex, nor a child, but rather money itself. 鶴美「だから元くん? 早くお金ちょーだい♪」 Tsurumi "So, Hajime-kun? Hurry up and give me some money." As you can probably guess from the excerpt above, Tsurumi is... more than a little insane. She doesn't hide her motives at all from Hajime (though he misunderstands them at times), and she is unbelievably ruthless in the pursuit of money. She isn't a heroine... nor is she a potential heroine (with good reason). She's the antagonist who defines everything that can go wrong with an individual as a result of exposure to the twisted nature of old, wealthy families.2 points -

[NSFW] What are some of your favorite H scenes in VNs?

Hi there, fellow VN fans, I always had a thought: why do we have so many proprietary and semi-proprietary VN engines? There are *many* defiencies in having a closed source engine (and kinda inaccessible VN content): there are problems with running it on many platforms (like 95% of modern VNs are released for Windows, good luck trying to read them on your Android / iOS device), there are these infamous problems with "Japanese locale required", sooner or later platforms become inaccessible (good luck trying to run some less popular games of Windows 95-98 era - they won't run on modern Windows 7/8/10 in any of the compatibility modes). If one wants to grab text for translation, one has to resort to really ugly API hooking hacks. Etc, etc. So, why not just convert VNs to some easier, more universal, accessible format? I've followed the pattern of ScummVM project (a universal engine that runs adventure games) and thought - why not? There are 2 projects close to what I thought: that is VNDS, which is, unfortunately, dead, and Asenheim, which is, unfortunately, not free/open source and I can't participate in it. Today I'd like to share some of my progress, proof-of-concepts and ideas. I've studied several VN engines, namely: Kirikiri2 (AKA TVP) NScripter BGI (Buriko General Interpreter) Whale Caramelbox SysAdv Ren'Py Tyrano Yuka VNDS Asenheim What do I have now: An understanding of some common baseline capabilities that all these engines have A project of JSON-based format (basically, some metainformation plus an array of simple instructions like "show text", "show graphics", "play sound", etc) A proof-of-concept engine written in HTML5+JavaScript (well, actually CoffeeScript) Most important: some working converters for several games that can be used on original games' data to make a "port" that my engine will be able to run A list of VNs I currently support and working on: Koisuru Shimai no Sextet - https://vndb.org/v13353 (Yuka) Zutto Tsukushite Ageru no! - https://vndb.org/v8439 (Yuka) Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba - https://vndb.org/v100 (SysAdv) Sakura Swim Club - https://vndb.org/v18261 (Ren'Py) Edelweiss Eiden Fantasia - https://vndb.org/v2093 (BGI) Koneko Doumei - https://vndb.org/v153 (BGI) Nora to Oujo to Noraneko Heart - https://vndb.org/v18148 (Whale) Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru - https://vndb.org/v195 (Caramelbox) Here's how it looks like: A few nice things that I already have is full customizability (like using any skin for every VN for UI), support for multiple simultaneous languages (like showing original Japanese + English translation for the sake of learning Japanese from it), support for annotated Japanese (i.e. adding furigana and/or hovering tooltips with word translations), etc. It's very easy to run HTML5 engine on Android and iOS (tried both), thus enabling one to enjoy reading VNs on the go. I want to ask if anyone would be interested to take a look and possibly join me in developing / using such a concept? I'm almost ready to publish it all as open source software - actually, I just need a good name for the engine Any ideas? If anyone wants to try translating any of mentioned games using my engine - please contact me too. Anyone who wants to participate in any way (i.e. checking out demos, porting more games, playtesting, etc) - also feel free to contact. UPDATE: The engine is released in public and available to download at https://github.com/mnakamura1337/mikan_engine1 point

I have no idea what is going on, but it was available yesterday, and I was able to buy it. Look EDIT, okay, so it's just a mistake on their part.... if you go to the homepage, and hover over the game, you can still add it to your cart. The "coming soon" must just be a mistake. Again, they actually changed something with the game download yesterday, as it was initially a broken link, so it could have happened in that process. So yeah, you can still buy it. Sent support an email asking about it, cuz I'm really curious as to what is going on atm My guess is that it's just a mistake on their part, seeing as the game is listed on both Calme's website, and their own as "on sale!" (and the fact that I already bought it, lol.)1 point

Meridia best girl. Kijo looks fine. Jaya's face looks a bit androgynous to me. I really like the whole character design of Meridia. Getting a Daria vibe out of Kijo lol. Arts appealing so far, Can't comment about the writing since there's no dialog. The story is cliche, but there's nothing wrong with that if its entertaining so good luck with the writing. Since you'll plan for a 18+ release 2, what h-genres will the game have? Good luck to you'll, will check up on your updates.1 point -
Looks promising and appeals quite a bit to me since I like demons and all I'll be keeping an eye on the progress of this. Knight protagonist or typical Yuusha type
Okarin reacted to Mr Poltroon for a topic
Let's see, neither of these include any princesses or actual knights, but they do include a male who protects the princess and sticks with her in a strange land much like a knight would. Absolute Witch - A female who's destined to become a witch due to a certain turn of events meets a man who eventually decides to protect her from all harm due to another turn of events. Kanata Kara - This one fits your restrictions best. The man really acts knightly in all but name. Those aside, this is a popular one since it has an anime and everything but I loved what I watched of Akatsuki no Yona, and it fits your restrictions to a Tee. On the other hand, Scrapped Princess stretches your restrictions as far as they go. That's fine though, since it's actually originally a novel and not a manga, it doesn't fit the criteria to begin with. I watched the Anime and enjoyed it. It certainly includes both a princess and knight-like bodyguards.1 point -

Why are so people so "sensitive" when it comes to nudity, porn etc?
Kenshin_sama reacted to Eai for a topic
Japanese can seem prudish about sex, but they are actually not, or were actually not. (At least lot less than western countries at the time). In Japan there's this thing about Public face and Private face concept (omote/ura). Japan is still a nation who celebrates fertility and other things related to sex through festivals displaying giant erects penis and such. Because in Shinto/bhudism, originally sex was just seen as something completely part of life, pleasurable and which could be celebrated . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanamara_Matsuri or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hōnen_Matsuri These things don't exist in Western countries, and i think some people will get offended if it happened. Whereas in Japan it shocks nobody. Also in the past, i heard Japanese were even displaying shunga and erotic pictures sometimes in their own house, and also that they were used as luck charms by people going to war and such. But since the introduction of 'western' standards' through Japan, it has introduced a contradiction with these former traditionnal values. But they can't supress these things because they were once integral part of their culture. There are also things like public baths which were once not separated by sex at all, these ones were encouraged to disappear to not shock the western sensibilities of the time, but even up to this day they still exists. It's also probably the reason Japan is one of the only asian countries were porn is legal though censored, in other countries like China, Korea, Thailand ect, Porn is absolutely forbidden. Problem with Japanese culture is that they have this 'it can't be helped' stance about things even when they are bothering them. For example many Japanese would like sex censorship to disappear, but they will not push their governement about it. A single politician will very unlikely repell the law because people will mock him and use this to decribilise him. They prefer to an exterior occurance happens then they can justify the decision of getting rid of it. If you look into japanese boards like 4ch, there's people who hope some vn and anime get licensed in foreign country rather than send complains to the governement about supressing the law. There are also people using the law at their advantage for distributing 'illegal' uncensored content (ura douga), of normally censored porn videos, this market is big in japan and is highly related to Yakuza protection and such. It's an extremely lucrative market which can earn millions to the people who do it. Like in this article in which they can make profits up to 130 million yen only with online dvd sales (approximatively 1,3 million dollars). http://www.japantoday.com/category/crime/view/illegal-mosaic-free-porn-business-busted I hope one day Japanese will repell this law. Unfortunately i think it's unlikely because i don't think the people concerned will want to publicly advocate against it. For South korea case in the OP, it might be related to the fact porn in Korea is illegal.1 point -

It's not "people" it's "certain people", everyone's different. The problem is that "nudity being evil" has been the status quo for a while, and it's much harder to fight against it than to change it. But I agree nudity by itself shouldn't be worthy of censorship, sadly it's seen as a perversion by many and will likely stay that way. If humans still walked around naked maybe you'd have a case for yourself, but because we decided to invent clothes and cover ourselves up, eventually our naked bodies just became this stigmatized thing to be hidden by default. Culture!1 point

Well, this is the first June's releases I've dug into, and it was an... interesting experience. This VN is a thematic trap protagonist VN that is fully voiced. I say it is 'thematic' because all the heroines share the same general quality/direction... to be specific, they are all from the 'ponkotsu ojousama' sub-archetype. Rich girls who are cute and generally nice to look at... and have an overwhelmingly high number of seeming irredeemable flaws. Kazari, the VN's main heroine, is perhaps the most obvious of the three... from the very first. For about ninety-percent of the people who play this VN, the first scene of this will decide whether you immediately drop the VN or continue on. In fact, Kazari is the reason why I think the ratings on vndb tend to be either near the top or the bottom of the scale. While the protagonist resigns himself to her... eccentricities, I seriously considered dropping this VN during the first scene of the game. Yuzu... is a more classic type. She looks like a yamato nadeshiko (ideal of the Japanese woman leftover from the pre-war era) on the surface, but underneath she is a glutton with an inordinate fondness for the smelliest foods on the planet who will eat just about anything (in massive amounts). Hinata is a straight-out chuunibyou heroine. The only difference between her and the other chuunibyou heroines who have been produced en masse in the last few years is that she is also an ojousama, lol. The protagonist in this VN is the best type of trap protagonist... the one who can do just about anything and everything better than everyone else around him. The fact that he settles into the role of taking care of the three girls like a sharp-tongued mother figure who nonetheless spoils them rotten is the biggest ongoing joke of the game in my mind. That he is fully-voiced means that this is one of those rare VNs where you have that element of characterization to add to the protagonist. Otherwise, he is your classic trap protagonist, who is girlier than the heroines but wants to think he is manly, lol. This VN's paths aren't terribly unique... except in the case of Kazari, where the actual path to her and the protagonist becoming lovers takes some really queer turns. However, taken for what they are, they are definitely at the higher levels for their types. This is your classic charage setup, where all drama is relatively minor and resolved in a way that doesn't leave a bad aftertaste behind. It is executed well enough that it doesn't feel like the writers wasted my time, but not so well that this will be one of the VNs I remember permanently, lol. Overall, when it comes down to it, this is just a thematic charage with some added elements (such as a fully-voiced protagonist and some weird heroines) that make it rise above the other ones like it out there. However, it is amusing and generally enjoyable... if you can get past Kazari's personal habits.1 point

By the way, some of you who play Ruputna and Naya route may already knew this, but if you want to knew the story behind those two it'll be better to read their unique skill description because they story will never explained in the narration itself (So much that Sanathlig thinking Ruputna and Naya was side route. Although it's kind of interesting if Xuse implement the skill description to their route though (Actually they should did that of course, but Aroduc said Xuse probably facing time constraint when developing Seinarukana)). Yes, very vital information about heroine was added in skill description. Well, I'd find it quite hilarious though. If you want to knew the back story behind those two, I'll post below. As usual, below will be major spoiler. Ruputna Naya Well, hope it'll be help to anyone else who somehow didn't read skill description in those 2 route or anyone else who like spoiler.1 point
