Should I buy Star ocean even with the petty censorship?
Kawasumi and 2 others reacted to solidbatman for a topic
Star Ocean is an RPG, not a VN. In regards to the petty censorship, it doesn't really matter. They changed a characters panties. If panties make or break your decision to buy a non-fanservicy JRPG, you need to do some self-reflecting and simply buy Neptunia shit.3 points -

Sharin no Kuni Prefundia page is up
XReaper and one other reacted to Fred the Barber for a topic
Wow. They even figured out what weebs their customers are and just put "Sharin no Kuni" almost everywhere. IIRC, "Wheel Country, Sunflower Girl" had more prominent placement earlier in the campaign (though it looks like the Prefundia has just "Sharin no Kuni" in the title now... but I don't think it was always that way.) One thing for people to pitchfork about: they are very clearly saying that the physical copy of the game isn't going to come with a digital download key, and implicitly saying that the digital copy will arrive before the physical copy. I'd be surprised if it isn't a substantial time gap. So if you're one of the people who griped about not getting to play Clannad for a few months because you only backed and got a physical copy reward, please take better notice this time and don't gripe next time. Anyway, I backed it2 points -

"Link Tool" in Text Editor Automatically Removes Symbols
Tay reacted to Mr Poltroon for a topic
Let us initiate an experiment that should demonstrate the problem at hand. When I try linking a word, I highlight the word and then use the "Link" button in the text editor. Thus: Link becomes: Link Now let us try the same with Fish & Chips. Fish & Chips becomes Fish ---- What happened? Presumably, symbols such as '&' cause some issue with the link tool. Here's some material evidence: (1) (2) Why is this a problem? I hate Fish. Fish & Chips are good, but just Fish is unpalatable. Plz Fix.1 point -

HI!!! Or whatever........I guess ill just start, I am a girl (even though the name says "boi". Joke with friend) I am a filthy lesbian queer. Again, theres a joke with my friend. Ever since I told him hes called me a filthy queer as a joke. Anyways I enjoy VNs (big shock I know) My favorite VN is either IMHHW, homeward or Clannad. I also not surprisingly enjoy reading proper books. My favorite book is probably huckleberry finn or battle royale (better than the movie) Im an Irish fag. Literally. I like video games. There fun. Movies. There fun. So yeah....................Hi....................1 point -

Should I buy Star ocean even with the petty censorship?
Silvz reacted to solidbatman for a topic
Star Ocean is a JRPG series developed by Tri-Ace. The series is a sci-fi, futuristic action rpg system, that plays somewhat similar to the Tale of franchise, where you, the player move around on the battlefield defeating your enemies using preset moves, relying on mana points. Reception to the earlier titles, 1 and 2 was very positive. Star Ocean 3 saw a more mixed reaction, as did 4. Early results on Star Ocean 5 are mixed from what I understand. Fan service is not the point of the game, as the story is usually some sort of intra galactic romp, where you travel to various planets to save planets, or the galaxy. Unlike games developed by Gust, and Compile Heart, Star Ocean is a more serious JRPG series, with very very mild fanservice. Do you want to look at an underage girls panties? Go play Neptunia, and stop bitching about this you little saber rattler.1 point -

I got some really good advice on this decision when I was trying to figure out what to do in my senior year of college: unless you are certain you want to go to graduate school, don't do it. Anyway, nice to see you back, congratulations on your accomplishment, and best of luck!1 point -
Are you asking because you actually wanted an advice or did you just want to make a thread to complain about muh panty censorship?1 point

Judging the game is voiced, you can't really read it that fast without skipping everything except the text; not the best kind of experience, neither a good indicator.1 point

Im just gonna take the ones on the top of my head in no particular order, im not gonna link pictures, since I would need to upload some of them to another imagehost and im lazy. Angel - Majikoi S. jesus yamato, besides from that one chris scene we dont talk about, we're so much alike when it comes to that lol, all the hscenes felt like it just catered to me on a personal level lol, so much ass <3 Rinne - euphoria whipping/erotic asphyxiation scene, 2 seperate scenes I think I like mainly because it feels like rinnes route h scene wise caters to my specific SM taste. And I always had a thing for Rinne as a character. Wanko - majikoi (I think?) wanko's "barks" are easily the cutest I have ever heard and since the whole dog theme was a thing I had anticipated this h scene for so long lol (yes, its that scene where they do the whole dog play thing), I dont think I had such a hard boner for vanilla before lol (pun not intended) Amane - Amane switch. This h scene is still the most emotionally pulling h scene I have seen to this date, so much frustration and feeling of helplessness going on here.1 point

cant see the potential benefit for one improving in japanese, simply because those are in most cases no literal translations and partly got edited the living fucks out of them. sure it´s a nice gimmick, but not nearly as useful as some make it out to be.1 point

Popular/well-liked visual novels that you don't like/care for?
Fred the Barber reacted to Valmore for a topic
Actually, when someone produces anything for public consumption - games, food, movies, etc. - they're pretty much asking to be critiqued by anyone and everyone. At least, that was how I was taught in journalism class. If you didn't want your work critiqued, you wouldn't have sold it to the public to try. It's why you need to have thick skin if you decide to do any sort of thing you sell to people - not everything you hear back will be rainbows and cum inside the tsundere. And it doesn't matter if the person critiquing it can do a better job or not. The "well can you do better?" card is a strawman argument for lazy creators who can't defend their work at all from in-depth critique. So yes, the consumer is the best person to critique what is offered to them, and you are absolutely correct.1 point -

Popular/well-liked visual novels that you don't like/care for?
Funyarinpa reacted to Decay for a topic
To put another way, the ability to make games is completely different from the ability to play and evaluate them. Being good at making games does not give your opinions on what's good and what's not any more weight than people who are clueless on game development. On the contrary, I find that most developers who try their hand at games criticism end up having way too biased of a perspective to fairly evaluate them. They end up relating with development issues that other developers might run into and soften their criticisms as a result. But the fact is, criticizing game development is entirely different from criticizing games. Now, if we were to actually criticize the game development processes, I'd agree that arguments from experienced individuals hold the most weight. But that's not what we're doing here. What we're doing is simply saying "I think this is good" or "I think this is not good." The game development process has nothing to do with this evaluation and no additional insight into that process will make us better equipped to make these judgements. Because they are, after all, highly subjective and based purely on our own emotional responses to the games in question. Anyone can give these opinions, and they're never wrong.1 point -
Upcoming Video Games: News, Trailers and More
Funyarinpa reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
Femshep is objectively 5 times superior to maleshep strictly because, and I really hate to say this, of the voice acting. When I play maleshep I have to mute his monotone arse, it's quite the annoyance, whereas femshep comes with a great variety of tone to fit every situation. I can leave the volume on when I play her, so I only play her. Unfortunately you can't romance Tali as her, but c'est la vie.1 point -
