Im Luna, female and from scandinavia Got deeply into VN's after getting a vita and reading Steins Gate twice. I am a long time gamer girl with many great game experiences (especially MMOs), but S;G blew my mind. Is is FANTASTIC and I cant praise it enough. As a science geek, psysics student and chronical heavy thinker that one was nothing but RIGHT up my alley. After that I have been and am still exploring different parts of the world of visual novels, and I feel like I am here to stay. It really is a medium and community online i enjoy very much. Reading on Ps Vita and 8" win10 thinkpad which i LOVE to bits. Thanks for answering all my dumb questions in the past and future and writing interesting posts and discussions that I can lurk in.

  6. Who was Hinata again...? I've been steadily reading 灰と幻想のグリムガル (actually a light novel, not a VN). Really been enjoying it for what it is: a party-based RPG fantasy story with heavy character focus. Glad it actually occurred to someone to write a story like this. I plan to read Omega no Shikai -Shiki no Hajimari next. The OP/ED's are great (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHQ4YaQAyyI) , and I have faith in the doujin producer to make something good and engrossing. though I might try Tokage no Shippo Kiri for psychological gore.. I was thinking about playing 滅び朽ちる世界に追憶の花束を but it's slightly similar in emotion to 灰と幻想のグリムガル so that's on hold.

  8. There’s nothing really to specifically write down about. Editing seems to have kept the steady progress of 8-10% a week and QC’s following close behind. Proofreading’s going well enough, but it’s not going to gain any surprising spurts of progress, just steadily moving along. As for me, I’ve been out of it all week long, but I have progressed with the secret project, so there should be a nice amount of progress when the reveal comes along. Anyhoo, progress time:

  10. took me long enough rallying for others to also experience the greatness that is nekobanana´s omega no shikai. no regrets so far. last entry is awesome as well. think i´ll write some lines after having seen it through, though there´re still circletempo´s w-standart wonderland and re-world3 which need to be finished first, heck i did even switch over to liquid food, for having at least little more time at my disposal... btw i strongly suggest you taking your time whilst reading the series above, partly confusing as hell/ a clusterfuck of weirdness and totally not suited as something to be done on the sidelines. i also recommend you non marathonning its entries, one after another, to prevent them from loosing impact and their charms as well. anyway enjoy! edit. heathen, burn for non feeling like start reading 滅び朽ちる世界に追憶の花束を. it´s a straight kamige, comparable to himawari in terms of impact. not even your fondness coming to grimgar will save your soul. damn you. in case you are no fag priorizing shiny-visuals over actual writings, a thing which i´m rather sure of you aren´t, please and by all means try going for the stunningly written 茜街奇譚 -Akanemachi kitan-. quite confident there said work would please your longing for the unique and atmospherically intense more than enough, despite being not that long of a read itself. it´s a story of great dept and more close to a traditional novel, which is also reflected in the quality of writing. the story is mainly told in 3rd person narrative, though it switches to 1st person if needed, and does also make (rudimentary) use of effects when coming to pivotal parts, albeit no flashy ones. quite confident there in the shockingly poor tastes of mine, that in retrospect, this is not a works of fiction you personally would have wanted to have missed out on reading through. enjoy!

  13. Voice acting would have seriously detracted from the game, a ton. It also would have ruined some of the tricks the VN has up its sleeve to alter the reader's perspective.

  17. School- (1) the outgoing friendly nerd (in classes I'm comfortable in and know everybody) - always going around talking to and helping everybody with classwork all day errday. OR (2) the introverted stoic- 'specially in bigass lecture halls. You can forget trying to build relations with new people there, due to the 'come in, take notes, then leave' environment. Work- the earnest hardworker. Quiet, but gets the job done and tries to maintain a neutral-positive relation with everybody Home- the sloth who minds his own business. I actually rarely talk to my fam fam, we all just each do our own thing most of the day and then maybe gather for din din or some TV and then back to doing our own thang High school BFFs- the loud, obnoxious prick. You ever see that annoying ass group of teens/youngadults talking and laughing so loud and making a big scene out of everything? Mhmmm. Fuwa- the spammy, trolly, diary-esque "What-weeby-things-he-did-today" infodumping pleb These are my five personalities upon mucho reflectionos after hearing some people at work talking about how it's funny people have different personalities to suit their current environment

  19. I tried to read white album 2, it was a bit hard to follow and the theme overall didnt click for me(musical themes are not my thing), to spend so much effort into it is not worth it... I'm finally going to play ashita no yukinojou (while finishing hinata's route in giniro)

  28. We are now friends. Re: Ever17- I do agree that the first four routes get tedious, but for me Sora's route was utterly incredible though I played it before I played Tsugumi's, and I actually like it even more than the true route. However, although E17 is one of my all-time favorite VNs I do think that the four primary routes could really have used some differences amongst themselves (the calm atmosphere doesn't help, for the most part, either).

    Why the Nostalgia?

If some of you failed to notice, I've been going back over my list of ancient favorites amongst the moege/charage/slice-of-life genres. Why am I doing this? I actually have some good reasons, other than whims. First, I keep recommending these things to people, but when you start talking about a VN you last played five years ago, people tend to let it in one ear and out the other. I mean, my long-term memory for games and books is pretty good, but my brain is fairly compartmentalized, so I don't remember them actively unless I go through the effort to refresh that memory. Can I continue to say that I honestly recommend something without playing it in the recent enough past that I can compare it to other, more recent VN experiences, through more jaded eyes? Second, I want to know just how much nostalgia is coloring my viewpoint. To be blunt, the longer you are away from your favorite games or VNs, the more the memory gets beautified by distance in time. When I recently did a speed replay of G-senjou, I reaffirmed why I disliked the story structure while at the same time realizing that I didn't always do it justice due to my biases (no, I didn't blog on it, but I was mostly doing it for my own edification, anyway). Third, I like to think that I try to be as objective as possible, so I wanted to reexplore my VN roots when it came to my attitude toward charage/moege. One thing I've noticed as I replayed certain charage from the past is that the best of the older generation wasted the least time on 'everyday' slice-of-life, ironically. The gradual shift to put an excessive emphasis on the everyday life aspects of charage and moege is a relatively recent phenomenon, from what I've re-experienced. A part of this is that, as the audience in Japan has aged, so has their nostalgia for an 'ideal youth' become much stronger. The fact is, a lot of the 'devoted' moe-gamers in Japan aren't young people (at least not the ones who are also erogamers). They are older people who want to experience an idealized version of youth through a non-person protagonist's viewpoint. Ironically, this seems to be the reason why the market is shrinking, since younger generations don't find that kind of stuff as accessible as the older generation does, so you can tell to some extent what generation a company is appealing to by how weak the protagonist is and/or archetypical the characters are, lol.

    What are you playing?

E17 is overrated as a whole, as the first four routes are pretty tedious, but the true route did some really clever stuff. Also, the can scene is probably my favorite in the first four routes and if it had done a better job capitalizing on the tense situation and the feeling that something's wrong, the VN would have been that much better... it's a real shame. But +1 for having a pretty unusual opinion. I feel like the vast majority of what I hear is praise. E17 isn't a 10/10 VN, it's a 4/10 at its worst and a 10/10 at its best, so it's more of a mixed bag, if anything. On a side note, does anyone who's read it know if Root Double fixes these problems, or makes them worse? It looks pretty engaging, but I'm not sure about slogging through twice as much bland text as ever 17 had (which was already too much).

  32. Well, unless you *have* to finish that VN, I'd just say move on to another VN or game for the time being. You might not be in the right mood, or the VN might just not be for you.

  33. Um, sorry for the late answers — I've been unexpectedly busy with my real life and work and stuff, sorry. Actually, I'm also mostly using Linux for desktops, and that's one of the motivators for Mikan engine for me as well From the bird's eye perspective, it's like 4 steps: if there are any archives, extract their contents (90% of the time, there would be ready-made tools for it - check out usual stuff like Crass, GARBro, ExtractData, or collections like these). convert these contents into contemporary formats that would be widely accepted by browsers (i.e. PNG, JPG, OGG, MP3, etc) - many VNs use custom formats for graphics, animations, etc; again in 90% of cases, ready-made tools will help you find the script files and check them out; if they are compiled bytecode, figure it out (which opcode means what) and learn to decompile it (might be hard) convert script files into JSON used by Mikan (relatively easy, once decompiling is done) As far as I understand, Infinity was developed by KID and probably uses some variation of their engine. @Scorp mentioned that he has tackled these formats, so he might provide more info if you'll motivate him enough

  34. it was a really good visual novel. one of the very few times where i actually didn't thought about money wasted on a crap VN. , it was much better than i expected even though i am not into big oppai. the plot is really funny and amazing in general. i sincerely hope manga gamer will translate the sequels. will definitely buy the rest when they get translated in the future if they ever did. the visual novel itself is also longer than i expected, and each choice will matter and will put you into a different ending. not to mention the branch off in mid story. translation was of good quality, manga gamer did a good job on this one even though i think its a little bit overpriced but its okay since it was worth it.

  35. Completed multiple short vns in jp. Narcissu, True Remembrance and Phenomeno . They have english translations. But I am like: "Eng vn's? What's that? Do you mean OELVN?" <Jp only 4 laifu, I haz no choice> Completed Baldr Bullet as well. Rather interesting read in the context of it being the first "baldr" game. It's rough in the edges. Really short but with a lot of stuff put into it. So it feels rather like.. Why didn't they do more here? They don't go too deeply in the setting and such either. Making the experience feel light. Leaves you a tad too unsatisfied, combined with the short length of the vn. Still. It was an enjoyable ride honestly. Good action. Funky sci-fi stuff, although it was sadly gone over too quickly. Good old Baldr gameplay. Military setting, I love that. Also most H-scenes have like 6+ CG's in 2 mins *laughs*. This game feels a bit like BSZ in how the plot and people are really silly. But it has sci-fi stuff and setting is interesting. But BB gameplay keeps being fun and doesn't break. Also it doesn't have much "pointless" scenes either. So I found myself enjoying BB more than BSZ, even with all its flaws.
