  2. So I went over the 1000 post limit and will be kicked off of Fuwanovel soon, to make room for a new shitposter... wait, nevermind, @Tay just said that's not how it works and that I'm stuck here. I apologize in advance for your punishment. @solidbatman almost done writing DPRK. Let me know when something pops up and maybe this time I'll be more timely about getting the review in. @Flutterz I love you, man. Like how Hikki loves Totsuka you damned trap. @Decay I know you stopped following me on Twitter. Thought you snuck off, did you? I SEE ALL TANOOKI MAN!!! @Kaguya You seem almost normal lately. Must be the effects of Neptunia or something. Then again, me saying someone seems normal might not be all as great as it sounds. @Fiddle Has a better vocabulary then 99% of the known internet. Or he has one hell of a thesaurus. He enjoys long walks on the beach and discussing his feelings over anime marathons. @Rose I call dibs on your F/GO account after you mysteriously disappear... WAIT FORGET THAT LAST PART!!! Pretty sure there's more. Post your name and I'll randomly make up something about you that might sound almost believable. Much Love - Me.

    Hentai As An Art Form

All art is in the eye of the beholder. If it touches you intimately as you look at it, read it, watch it, etc. then it can, in your point of view, be considered art. Only rich snobs, Eurotrash 'artists' and 'art critics', and cultural snobs think otherwise.

  4. The thread "Post pics you like" lives off the posts made by a single user, Jun Inoue. If not for Jun, the thread would hardly have any posts, and Fuwa would be a cold and sad place without proper memes to fuel its users' daily requirement. Jun's ability to find funny pictures and gifs to share with Fuwanovel is treasured and loved by all, and the site has not seen a user with such an amazing post-like ratio since Fiddle. I made several attempts at getting an interview with Jun, to ask him why he is so motivated to bring Fuwanovel memes and hilarious gifs, but every time I checked his profile to see if he was free, I was met with the same situation time and time again. And, by scrolling down on his profile, you will see just how dedicated he is to his mission of never letting Fuwanovel go a single day without memes! Taking all of this into account, I think it would be unfair for the thread to keep its current name, and instead suggest we rename this thread to: "Pics Jun Inoue likes." I have made a poll on this thread, and ask that you all vote, so that we can make this change happen!

  8. The actual limit is set at 20k posts, after which you will be personally visited by @Tay. He will apologize profusely for not working on improving the site enough, get shitfaced on the flask of distilled shitposting* he always carries in his right pocket, then proceed to hit on you awkwardly while setting up a portable wrock karaoke station. At this point @solidbatman will join the party, only to bow out 3 seconds later due to a flashback to an early Fuwa party back when he was admin. In his place, @Down will teleport in using a cutting-edge device he worked with CERN to create, bringing with him two magical girls from the 2d realm. He will speak with a voice of thunder and invite you to an orgy. Should you accept, you must walk three steps forward, sidle leftwards for exactly 3.5 seconds, then throw yourself onto the ground the hardest you can. If done correctly, you will transfer to @VirginSmasher's house briefly (he will call you a fag), then fall into a harem isekai anime. After that, all bets are off. *contains Okami's pure, untainted tears, nail clippings from the man he killed (in self-defense!), and is spiced with @OriginalRen's salt

  10. Being naked ≠ pornography A lot of the difference comes from the intention of the work in question. Nudist paintings aren't there to turn you on, they are usually representing something, even if that something is only the beauty of the human body. Porn exists for you to fap to, and is thus seen as having less artistic value by many. If you think hentai is the exact same thing as someone being painted nude, then I think you should study a bit more before making a presentation on this subject. I don't think your teacher was wrong in the way they reacted. I myself would probably react the same way, and I read hentai all the time.

  11. Well, putting a NSFW image on display for a whole class to see seems over the top to me. I must be from a different generation though... Hentai may be art, but if I'm not wrong, you use it as a form of escapism, and escapism is never as good as the real thing (in this context, "the real thing" is a full-blown relationship between two human beings). Also, one thing is liking it, even wildly, another altogether is sharing it with no qualms with the general public. Fetishes exist, but people don't talk about them very openly, and with good reason.

  12. A quick Google search turned up a similar thread on the forums without results, and something related to TERA, which seems to use .gpk files as well. The tools in question might not help you though, since I'm not sure if those are the same as School Days', unfortunately. The link in that thread points to http://www.gildor.org/downloads, and I guess you might want to give the "Unreal Package Extractor" a go. Another Google search mentions Omnigo Program Package as a possible format, with http://constexpr.org/innoextract/ apparently being able to extract them. Might be worth giving either a try.

  13. I agree with you! But first, have you posted a message about adding Rusalka on Prefundia? I already did and I think you should too as well. It will at least let them know that the fans really want to see a Rusalka route. Then maybe we can do a petition. Though I think it might be better to get as many people to request on the Prefundia. And that's even more reason why she needs a route in this game.

  14. You are wrong, kurisu calls Maho "Senpai" from the first time, she never calls her plain "Maho", now at some point they changed her name to senpai because they HAD TO (and they explain what senpai means) or else the story wouldn't make any sense but this doesn't make sense either way because why kurisu will change all of the sudden changing from using her name to Senpai in that specific part?Guess what? She wouldn't, a lot of serious stuff happened before and after and she never changed the senpai to her name. See, what you think it was a sensible thing to do it was just something that doesn't make any sense AT ALL and thus a cheap way to fix something for a bad translation decision. Honorifics are part of their language and culture, just as much as mayuri's way of talking (a childish japanese way of talking) and how they conjugate verbs depending on the person they are speaking to or the situation they are in. You cannot have one without the other, you cannot replace a San with a Ms/Mr, the same way you can't replace kun or chan or any other honorific... but wait ohh I see... they didnt replace those with anything, so for example how can you understand that katsumi acts in a really close way to the people around her using the so evil HONORIFICS, yes, you can't, because the translators decided for everyone that you shouldn't care for that and it seems that nobody actually cares as long as the translation looks like if was written by an english author but by doing so they striped the personality of the characters that makes them so unique, all of that is gone because of a bad decision to turn a JAPANESE vn into a weird English wanna be thing. If you want to read English novels then read something written by an English author, then again what you actually want is some butchered cross version of a Japanese written visual novel turned into some American version, the question is why would you be reading something in Japanese if you are so against its culture and everything that makes it so unique? In simple terms, you are asking for a hamburger but at the same time asking to take out the meat and add tofu to it

  17. That's part of the idea, though. Localisations try to bring the game by adapting it, not simply put a skin and sub over the game and be done with it. In the same way you wouldn't leave idioms or general culture in a localisation (because 99% of the players won't get them at all and it'll be super confusing), you also do the rest of the stuff. Bashing on a localisation because they are focusing too much on localisation instead of "literal-translation" or subbing or whatevs, is kinda... you know, like you are completely missing the point of what's being done. We were kinda "dismissive" of Blue's post because he went on a super rant on Americanisation and imperialism and whatnot, when what he had described is the 101 of proper localisation.
    2 points
  18. I can kind of understand where Deep Blue is coming from. As of late more 'translations' are localiszed as they would a dubbed version. And it is kinda annoying for those that notice the differences and changes in more subtle stuff like honorifics as a means of social hierachy etc. To be fair there are more americans than there are english. And "British slang" isn't something you see in any kind of media outside of britain itself. For my part, I've seen a few FTW, FTWs and some other stuff I'd count more on the american side of english. Which means nothing as the translation company is just the company that hires the translators. For all we know they might be Murricans, Brits or even Japs themselves.
    2 points
  19. I'm sorry I was dismissive but complaining about "American slang" when there's absolutely nothing of the sort being described is absurd. There is very little to no Americanization happening with the S;G0 translation, and literally everything you mentioned as being Americanization is actually related to the English language worldwide and not anything specific to America. What you're complaining about isn't that the localization is steeped too heavily in American culture (an especially unlikely scenario considering the translation company responsible is British), what you're complaining about is simply that it's not Japanese enough for you. Your post could have possibly been taken more seriously if you didn't focus on a nonexistent issue.

  20. Has "American slang" become internet slang for "sensible English"? If so, slang me up, baby. Nothing Deep Blue mentioned is American in nature, just it's all just English language common sense in general.

  21. I don't particularly like Liar-soft, but I never really found it pretentious. I just found the Japanese version of the writing style annoying, lol. If you want a real argument about pretentious media, the Fate series, Tsukihime, and Kara no Kyoukai have a lot of people arguing back and forth over it. Personally, my opinion on people who call something pretentious is that they are too arrogant to just sit back and enjoy the ride. I might have 'thought' something was pretentious in the past, but I never say it, because it is a loaded term that implies a lot of things I don't want associated with the stuff I read. Edit: Also, 'artsy' is another loaded term... filled with the mixed contempt and superstitious awe of the old blue collar worker. I honestly was a bit exasperated when I saw that word pop up on the recent threads, lol.

  22. What kind of Americanized name? They kept every name the same, the name of the characters, of the towns, of the universities, of the societies, they didn't change the name of anything. And the Lintahlo thing is also a joke in the original VN, since, if he was japanese, he would say rintarou with Kanjis, and not Katakana... Just people being picky with a good translation.

    Tokage no Shippo Kiri

Some people on this forum already know me as a pretty big Cyclet fanboy. They make some pretty good dark games, which is right up my alley. Tokage no Shippo Kiri is by far my favorite Cyclet game to date, and in this blog entry I'll be talking a bit about why. I found out about this through some people on Discord, and after looking through some CGs from the game, I was rather confused when I was told this is a pure love story. That made very little sense to me, which just sparked my interest even more. After having read the game, I have to say I agree; this is definitely primarily a love story, though a rather tragic one at that. I will be mainly talking about the first few hours of the game in this blog post, then reflect on why I like the game and what it does right, so it's pretty much spoiler free. What you see here is just the introduction to the story that you see after a little bit of reading, so the major plot twists and such is not spoiled here, should you ever feel like reading the game. The title of the game plays a very central role in the story, and it does so almost immediately. Tokage no Shippo Kiri = (rough TL) Cutting the lizard's tail. The main character, Shuu, is an honor student. Among the smartest people in school, and certainly among the most diligent, Shuu seems like a rather normal guy who wouldn't hurt a fly. He doesn't come in late, he does all his homework and places among the top students on tests. However, this story is meant to show you that although people might seem totally normal on the outside, they could be just a single step from breaking on the inside. As Shuu ends up being late one day, he starts running to school in order to make it in time. On his way though, he ends up stepping on something. Upon looking down, he spots a lizard with its tail ripped off. However, the lizard doesn't cower in pain, scream or anything that a human would in a situation where their limbs are ripped off them. Instead, it completely calmly runs away, fleeing from danger, completely unfazed by the fact that a portion of its body is missing. As he sees this, Shuu breaks. Something inside him is stirred, and he wonders, "is it possible for humans to regenerate their limbs like a lizard?" Suddenly, very interested in how exactly lizards can do this, he starts researching anatomy, biology and such extensively. Every single day he goes to the library to read up on immortality, regeneration of limbs, and anything he can come across slightly related to learn how it works. Shuu concludes that the only way to figure this out though, is through practical experiments. Now, at this point this probably sounds like it will turn into a guro fest, but it's not quite how things goes. This is like I said before, primarily a love story, (although the game has a decent amount of guro, it's not quite the same as other guro games in that regard). Anyways, enter Kanau. Kanau is a girl who is totally in love with Shuu. She is so madly in love with him, it's a bit confusing really, as she hasn't actually talked much with him before at all. At first, you don't really get any explanation for this. She just loves him, and wants to be with him. She eventually approaches Shuu, and he politely agrees to letting her help him with his research. The two start reading books together in the library, although Kanau of course has no idea what kind of research this really is. Two other students eventually joins in on this as well, and the four of them come to library every day to research. Each one of them have their own motive for doing this, and the way the story keeps their reasoning hidden until the later segments is very well executed, even for the main character Shuu. Leaving the other two on the side, let's talk about Kanau and Shuu's romance. (The other two have rather minimal roles in the main route, but bigger parts in their own routes that are connected to the main route later on.) Shuu and Kanau start to get along well, and soon enough they both develop romantic feelings for one another. (Well, Kanau already had these, like I mentioned, but it becomes mutual at least.) The thing is though, as the reader you really don't know whether Shuu's feelings are genuine, or if he is just using Kanau for his potential experiments. As I was reading the game I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. Exactly what is it that Shuu wants, what is fueling him, and what is going to happen next? And likewise, Kanau's motives were totally mysterious to me as well. Sure, she loves him, but why? To be frank, you really don't get what is going on for a long time. Though, all of the answers will come in due time. Shuu talks Kanau into helping him with an experiment, though she is not the test subject; he wants to test this on himself. Shuu wants to know, "can humans grow back their limbs? Just how far can the human body be pushed when it comes to healing itself?" And so, he decides to have Kanau cut off his finger, and then observes the result. (Don't worry, not a bloody CG. I won't link any of those ) Needless to say, Kanau is not a big fan of this idea, but due to her extreme attatchement to Shuu, there is no way she is saying no. Big parts of the game is told from Kanau's point of view, and deals with her conflicted emotions. She hates the idea of Shuu being in pain, but hates the idea of Shuu rejecting her because she won't help him with his research even more. After this, things keep escalating and the characters are forced to face their own mortality, quite literally. The truth is that no matter how you try to spin it, human beings are very fragile creatures, both mentally and physically, and you can't defy the laws of nature. This is the main point the game tries to get across, at least that's how it seemed to me. Shuu and Kanau's romantic story is a rather messy one, and this game really brings out loads of different emotions in the reader. I think a big misconception with dark themed stories is that they must always go a bit over the top, so that we can separate them from reality. However, Tokage no Shippo Kiri doesn't do that at all. It's as realistic as you can get with a story like this, and that makes the impact it has on the reader even stronger. The game is very psychologically straining, as you are put into the shoes of these characters in rather gruesome situations. I felt like certain choices in the game were very hard to make, as I was honestly afraid of the result they would lead to. So far, this is the only guro game that has made me feel a connection to the characters in that way. I mean, most of the time, story and writing pulls you in, but the surreal and rather "silly" settings if you will, completely separates you from seeing the story as being anything close to reality. (Like Maggot Baits and Nikuniku. Both games are fantastic, but you don't feel like what you are reading is reality, which makes it easier to stomach the dark and gruesome situations.) Of course, it's not like Tokage no Shippo Kiri makes you think it's based on a true story or anything, and 1 route in specific is rather... dumb to be completely honest. It feels like that route was just put there to please guro fans, and it serves little importance to the plot, but still retains some value so that you can't quite skip it either. That was honestly one of the reasons why this game didn't get a higher rating from me. Without that route, I'd be more inclined to go closer to the 10/10 than my current 8.4 rating of it. I like guro in nukige settings too, but I don't like having it crammed into a game that quite honestly felt like a very serious story. The guro in the other 2 routes is used in a way that makes sense to the plot, because of the mentality of the characters and such. Although the same point can be made for the route in question, I think it was purposely just stuffed in there to make the game appeal more to the guro crowd to draw them in. I won't mention which route this is, and I'll let you find that on your own if you are going to read the game. This does bring me to the second part of the game I did not like too much, and that was the sheer amount of H-scenes. I never thought I'd be saying that about a game like this, but it's true. The game does put some H-scenes in situations where they honestly don't really need to be. Sometimes the scenes make perfect sense, as many situations in the game stirs up a mix of different emotions in the characters and that makes the scenes feel fitting. But at other times, they just really don't need to be there at all. This game isn't a full on nukige, though it's quite similar in certain traits, and Cyclet might have been trying to flip it a bit more in that direction than I want to admit. Still, the game's story is very good, and the amount of H-scenes hardly changes that fact. A few last words about the game. It's told in three routes, though Kanau's route is the true one, and the other two take place assuming you have already read Kanau's route, (so if you are going to read this, read Kanau's route first.) All three of them tie into each other, and only by reading all three will you truly understand everything. If you only read one, you will be lacking key information to piece the entire puzzle together. There is one route which has less of a purpose than the other two, like I said, but you should still read all three if you want all the answers to the questions that might be swirling around in your head when you read this. Tokage no Shippo Kiri is a very good psychological game, about a romance between people on the verge of breaking, and them facing the harsh truth of their own mortality. It's definitely not a game everyone will enjoy, but for the people who like darker games with a more bitter taste to them, this is a very good choice. If you can't stomach gore and such, it's not really advised to touch this game.

  24. I was very vocal about my passion for visual novels and porn during my uni years too, so I'm actually impressed by the guts of the guy, and agree with him on the philosophical level at least. The only thing our society achieved by repressing sexuality for arbitrary reasons is more mental illness and stress. An according to Freud, all forms of art are just sublimation of our sexuality anyway, so I don't see why a drawing of sex couldn't be considered it. ...That said, you won't overturn thousands of years worth of societal imprinting with a single class, so the reaction was pretty much unavoidable. You probably could have tried to soften the presentation by obfuscating the image a little, or giving them some historical Japanese "pornographic" art like I linked earlier and introduce that as an evolution of that. Anyway, it's a complicated thing that will automatically make a lot of ppl upset if not presented well... and uh, I'm not sure if high school is the best place for it, given that our society arbitrarily restricts people your age from even consuming erotica yet... still better be a weirdo than live as a pretender!

The thread will be cleared of posts discussing this, and any further posts discussing the validity of this decision will also be dealt with, as they compound the problem. 26. Damn I wish I was 21, I need one too now. I define a weeb as someone who is kinda like us but doesn't know how to take a shower... or shows cartoon porn in class. Dude, not going to lie when I read that I got second hand embarrassment. It's one thing if you watch it that is your problem, but when you show it in class to people who don't think the same as you and try to play it off as art that is when the border has been crossed. I mean if you are going to show it in class at least make it a joke, then it's weird but it's not creepy anymore if the audience is like me and has a messed up since of humor.

  33. More people need to be talking about this game. I've played the first two "episodes" so far and man, it's rather incredible. The first episode was practically a moege, with large amounts of relaxed slice of life comedy and very light drama until the last fifth or so. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it was actually very funny and cozy, executing its intent extremely well. The second episode was a stark change of pace and almost oppressively melancholic, but still gripping all the way through. And that ending, holy crap. The way this game handles routes and such is strange. There are a few branches from a common trunk and also another entirely separate story mixed in at some point, followed by two "side stories" that are apparently plot critical and are included in this version of the game. The route order, however, is strictly enforced. The game forces you to see everything in a set order, even if you pick choices for other heroines. So for flavor reasons, you should pick the choices that pertain to the heroine who is the focus of the current episode, except the game doesn't actually tell you who that is. I'll spoil the route order here so people can pick the thematic choices if they so choose.

  34. Therefore: I see fans go around claiming that the use of repetition is an example of great writing which showcases wonderful use of technique to produce heavy emotions or some such. Recall that 'pretentious' means *grabs random definition*: And you have your answer. None of the people you asked were actually impressed by the use of repetition or other stylistic elements (considering it 'interesting' is hardly the great reaction,) and so at the very least some people could say that the fans are attempting to impress others by affecting greater merit than actually possessed. So the fans could be said to be pretentious here. For the work to be called pretentious, it has to call attention to those techniques as though they are of great importance, or worthy of great examination, I suppose. There's other ways, maybe the subject matter is pretentious and etc etc.

I'll wait as long as it takes until everyone on the team is 100% satisfied in their hard work and when they're ready to release it, I'll be sure to read it all with love! 37. saying that the quality of the translation is good... I don't even... they "Americanized" every single name in the game, changed the order of the names, changed surnames with first names with no patter.., rip off honorifics, ruined and added retarded american speech slang to many characters, replaced the senpai honorific with plain names and then at some point started using it again explaining the meaning of senpai in 1 sentence... so why didnt they used it from the beginning? xD Oh yeah I know, if they use senspai the readers would get lost, who is senpai? you can only see kurisu and maho in the scene, there is on one named senpai there, I'm lost! please Americanize everything for me, please! They should have also added some dank memes randomly to some scenes just to not to confuse some readers and make them uncomfortable with the weird japanese terms : (, ahh is that an american flag waving in the background? oh and uncle sam? Now i can understand the plot , yokatta I mean thank you God almighty! There are some bad translated parts (which points out of a translation not being QC or TLC), for example at one point changing the meanings of どうして to why from how or vise-versa when the characters meant something else, changing the meanings of 寂しい and 寒い not using the word 萌え for some reason because people that read vns dont know what the hell moe is, right? again bring me something american im getting triggered here with all this weeb BS : ( and I can go on and on.... The translation problems if you don't understand what they are saying is not that bad since you will still get the plot but adding that stupid american slang here and there... that's just bad taste and when they actually change some words (that are in the dictionary of the game) to the "equivalent" of the English ones and then some others they dont... it just doesnt make any sense AT ALL. At least they kept the childish way that Mayuri uses, but overall they lied or at some point changed how they were translating everything (I remember reading a blog and one of the translator explaining that they were going to leave the honorifics and many other things untouched and stay as true as they could to the jap ver and the previous translation which was way better than this one, so this lead me to believe again that at some point someone changed everything and in the process they ruined some parts of the translation too, that or they didnt QC/TLC) But then again, how can I complain when I'm being lazy not reading it in japanese and im also using a "free translation" OH yeah I forgot using the word "Lintahlo" (リンターロ) because let's be racist, it's fun! Even though the professor speaks English he doesn't say it with a fucking L like mocking a Chinese speaker, in fact you can clearly hear him saying "rintarou" in a really poorly and badly acted American accent but that's another issue not related to the translation... (and he is a japanese VA so even if he wanted to pronounce it with an L that's something really difficult for him) what was I saying? Oh yeah:
