Ask yourself what your goals are. If they are to pass N2/N1 and get your piece of paper, it might be best to get books specifically teaching to the test. If they are to learn Japanese, I would forget the N series of tests for now and try to ingest lots of native material of some or various kinds.

死埋葬 is definitely pretty dark. It's kind of this weird depressed slew of horrible things and evil horrible people and circumstances, where the only real light is from your girlfriend. The few moments of warmth she brings you are all the brighter for it. Well, Your girlfriend might also be in trouble sometimes. Also, there's a character that basically exists to be edgy. No real spoiler in this but I figure not everyone will want to read the japanese text

I totally disagree with Asonn's timeline (but he's obviously memeing), but this part is pretty silly. Sure it's bad for the translators if they're out of a job, but MTL actually getting good enough to use for good translations (it really isn't even close) would be an amazing asset for mankind and arguably mean we're close to or already at artificial general intelligence. ^ @Kiriririri These days the view that you should not disrespect sex workers is fairly common in left-leaning contexts (I realize this is a forum for VNs, which tend to be pretty sexist, but you're still talking to young people online), though certainly not the only view. The word "whore" is used as an insult, and thus not preferred if you want to not insult a whole category of people. With that said it seems to align with Zalor's views on the profession, so I suppose it's not an inaccurate use exactly. Personally, if society doesn't like something I do that doesn't harm anyone, then society can go fuck itself. I try to extend this principle to everyone. If I had a sister who chose to go into sex work I would be worried about her, because it definitely carries risks. But I wouldn't try to stop her because of some disgust or shame reaction.

I tried to use a 5-point scale for translations, but ultimately it just fails to account for all the levels of bad out there. So maybe it'll be a 2 to 2.5/6 w I actually agree with kiri that it's somewhat likely to be the least bad translation it's going to get this decade or two. But well, least bad, not good.

Oh, moenovel is fine with the lewd now, just look at lovekami spinoffs. Just no sex. In either case moenovel doesn't even translate things, they outsource the work to a translation agency. So it'll probably be bad and uneven. Exactly what you want when translating something known for its prose! While it's true that CC has two translations already, there's a lot of people who don't really keep track of things and who might never stumble upon the (bad) fan patches. Some people even care about things being official smh. I expect this new translation to significantly increase the amount of people that read a bad translation of CC if they go through with it.
