  1. Confession: After discovering Sylvanian Family toys and deciding they are something I need in my life, then I discovered that there was an American cartoon based off the toys and after seeing the opening/ending once I now cannot get it the hell out of my head. ... wait crap sorry. I apologize to anyone who gets this stuck in their head due to me.
  2. I was thinking this one. I have no idea how Star Ocean went from having really decent character design (1 and 2) to having good sprites but horrible 3d (3) to... just having bad design in general (4).
  3. Wow. The last chapter of Eustia is incredibly crappy. I'm glad the rest of the game wasn't like this. It's strange because usually the final, 'true' end is supposed to be the best of the whole game but in this case it's shaping up to be the worst. I'm basically speed reading by this point just to get it all over with.
  4. http://www.siliconera.com/2015/04/17/star-ocean-5-details-story-setting/ Um. I... don't know a gentle or polite way to put this but... goodness the main heroine has a derpy face doesn't she? That's some next-gen character design there guys. Looks like something you would make using a character creator from a cheap Korean MMO.
  5. Oh man I suck at RTS too! But I'd love to challenge one if the modern club decides to go that route. There aren't many RTSes that the retro club can get at... The only good memory I have of playing RTSes is when I played... one of the Command and Conquers, can't remember which one. Anyway the one with Prism Tanks. Those things just steamrolled anything. I remember pretty much waltzing through the game by building squadrons of Prism Tanks all the time.
  6. Alrighty. Well I'm going to post up a piece of writing of mine here on this site in a little while so after reading that if you think I'd be the sort of person you'd like to work with I'd love to pitch in. I've been meaning to write my own stuff for a really long time, but I just never seem to have motivation to write for myself. I think I'd be much better working with a project where I have a goal to write toward and I'm working together with someone toward it.
  7. ^Yes. This. Also, to keep us all on the same page, for a strategy game I suggest giving us a limit like 'please play until you have completed mission/chapter x' rather than a set amount of time. That way slow and fast players are still all on the same page when we start discussing it and we don't have to worry about any spoilers, we can just talk freely about the chapters we've all already beat. I think all three of the series suggested so far (Advance Wars, Fire Emblem and SRW) are broken into chapters/missions so you should be able to look up a guide for how many there are, pick a percentage of that, and set that as our first goal.
  8. I'm interested in writing. What kind of qualifications are you looking for in your assistant writer?
  9. From the comments: For those reading this. Please stop supporting Winged Cloud. Last year they opened a kickstarter for funding of a game called the guardian's spell. They promised the backers an otome game with full voice acting, 15 endings, and it would be delivered by December of last year. Once they received their funding they took the money, stopped contact with the backers and voice actors, shut down their website, closed their facebook, and blamed everyone else for why there was no game when promised. The backers have only received one update with a promise of more. But even that was back in November of last year after a news outlet contacted them. Please stop supporting this group. Edit: A recent update from Winged Cloud explained that one of their writers basically took part of the money and ran, so in December they hired a new writer to take over where the other one left off. Apparently the writer they hired had some kind of 'assignment' to finish before they could start on the plot for Winged Cloud so I'm guessing they're just barely getting started working on it.
  10. Oh god. I've had migraines since high school so I've gotten pretty used to dealing with them. They're not the same for everyone but here's some tips that have helped me deal with mine 1. First, do you have an aura? You might not have noticed it if it's your first time, but for about an hour or more before the actual migraine hits you'll have either an audio or visual hallucination kind of thing. In some people it's a color or a kind of high-pitched noise. For me it looks like an invisible worm is twisting around in the air in front of me. A good way to tell it's an aura is if you can still see it when you close your eyes. 2. If you DO have an aura, I find that if I lay down and fall asleep a little bit after I start seeing it I can usually wake up and find that the migraine has passed me right by. I still feel like my head is full of wool for the rest of the day, but it's better than bearing the brunt of the pain. 3. If the migraine hits, the best thing is caffeine+any kind of headache medicine. Most migraine medicine is just that, tons of caffeine with some headache-reducer. However, this is also based around how much caffeine you normally drink, since if your body has built up resistance to it it won't work as well. I never drink caffeine so I can usually kill the pain with a Monster and some weak Japanese painkillers. It might take more if you drink caffeine normally. Sadly if you take the 2nd route with the caffeine rather than sleeping you can't sleep... so you have to spend all day awake with a weird numb throbbing in your head as your body says 'yeah there's something painful going on here, you just can't feel it'. Anyway that's stuff I've found over the years I've dealt with it. Usually I just sleep through it as soon as I see my aura, or I use the caffeine+aspirin route if I can't take the day/time off.
  11. Confession: Sometimes I wish I was currently a little girl specifically so I could buy some of these: http://sylvanian-families.jp/catalog/categorieslist.php?category_id=4 without worrying about what anyone thought of me buying them. Confession 2: After I move out of my current job/house and have less of a public reputation to upkeep, I fully intend to buy some of those and have them in my house. It's like Redwall crossed with Downton Abbey and I could have it in my house!
  12. I'm for either Fire Emblem or Super Robot Wars. I want to give priority to games I never played or finished. I actually distinctly remember being out at the gamestore when Fire Emblem and Advance Wars were both out and spending like an hour trying to decide which to pick up. Finally I decided on Advance Wars. Now it's finally time for me to take the other path.
  13. Complainers: Why does every girl in the Sakura series have sunburns on her breasts? Sakura Series Folks: Read you loud and clear guys. This time we've got a game that will TOTALLY explain why their breasts are sunburned! You are solving the wrong problem!!
  14. Well I just made the final choice in Eustia so there should only be a few hours of story left. After that I just need to read all the little bonus side-stories (they're pretty short) and then it's review time! I'm really excited to see how this story is going to end.
  15. I had heard Kyoukai no Rinne was kind of a huge step back from Inuyasha and... yep, it is. I watched an ep and couldn't help but feel like going back and re-watching Inuyasha (or heck anything else by Takahashi) would be much, much better. The only thing really going for it that I could see is that I like Rinne more than I liked any of Takahashi's other MCs.
  16. Edit: Oh hey I forgot that someone actually did a full translation of Super Robot Wars J for the GBA. So while OG 1&2 are the only official English releases we actually have 2 of the main series games (J and Alpha Gaiden) to choose from if we want to play any of the others in English. All my votes for SRW J. All my votes forever.
  17. 7/10 been a while since I've seen an eye-patch girl. Maybe I just haven't been watching many anime lately.
  18. I'm trying to collect all the Final Fantasy soundtracks in actual CD form. I'm not buying any of the spinoff soundtracks (by that I mean soundtracks aside from the main ones, not that I'm not picking up FF spinoff soundtracks which I am) so none of the vocal/piano arrange albums or anything. So far my luck has been abysmal in finding used (read: cheap) copies of FFs I actually really like, and my collection right now is kind of bizarre. I have: Tactics VII Dirge of Cerberus VIII X XI XIII XIII-2 SaGa Collection (has the complete songlists from all 3 Gameboy SaGa games, which I consider FFs because they were released as 'FF Legend' in the US) I also picked up the Chrono Trigger OST last night when I was out getting XIII-2 and SaGa. (Note that just with the OSTs listed above my 'Final Fantasy' playlist is now over a day long)
  19. I got home to discover that my power had been shut off (my fault, I forgot to pay for a while, it ended up not being a problem I just went and paid, called them and they turned it back on) but my first thought on discovering my power dead was: 'Well, I guess I'll spend tonight wrapped in blankets reading Eustia in the dark. Good thing my Vita's charged'
  20. AoS was fun! I think it was a good intro game to get us all playing together. I'm hoping the next game will be something really challenging that will force us to kind of band together and give each other tips for the tough parts (especially if we ban using guides/cheats).
  21. Step 1: Go deaf. There's no way anyone with normal hearing can enter into one of those places. They're so freaking loud.
  22. Today I almost called in sick to work just so I could finish up Licia's arc in Eustia. The two reasons I didn't are 1. the boy crying wolf thing where I don't want to not be able to use the sickness leave thing when I really need it and 2. I was worried my coworkers would come visit after work to see how I'm doing and see how messy my apartment is.
  23. http://www.siliconera.com/2015/04/13/touhou-roguelike-featuring-reimu-hakurei-drops-playstation-vita/ Huh. A Touhou game on a console. I mean it's not an official Touhou game, but this is getting a physical release and everything. Honestly I think roguelike fits Touhou and its love for difficulty really well. I'm looking forward to it.
