Finished the... uh, which chapter was it now? Fifth chapter in Senshinkan? The one before they go break through the fourth layer. Not much happening here other than Yoshia being an awesome all-purpose MC as always. It's nice to have a MC that can get things done, but this doesn't seem like the best option either. Well, it's just a minor complaint, considering his father, it's probably only natural. Looking forward to the fourth layer breakthrough, not looking forward to the fainting. Noted. I also didn't like his treatment of his sister much, but as you said that's only a problem at the beginning of the story - plus I much preferred that over a weird siscon obsession, since this felt much more natural. As for the shopkeeper and similar scenes... I could not only understand it, but I could even relate to a certain degree. :x That probably made me like the protagonist the most... ;

I also didn't mind Takumi. In fact, I might go as far as to say that I liked him - was an unique MC for me at the time, and it made for a very interesting perspective. As for the patch, I've also read the VN with some untranslated things left in it. I think there was some trouble with the patch (I think it had to be taken down because JAST (?) had gotten the rights to C;H), so it was kind of hard to get, and probably unfinished because of that - but that was years ago, maybe there is a new release now?

Not really, I think it'll end up on the bottom of my VN list, unless the true route is somehow super amazing. But I really don't like dropping VNs, especially not if they have a true route; I made it this far, no point in stopping now. It's not downright horrible, it's just not very good, unfortunately.

Finished Nagisa's route in Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete, along with the good extra ending. What can I say at this point, the VN continues being dumb. Some characters don't feel very consistent across routes, and the general plot just makes absolutely no sense so far other than being amazingly convenient. Well, only Yui's route left, I think... which is hopefully the true route too. I have to say, boring me by time-loop stories is quite an accomplishment, I thought I could read this kind of stuff forever. Haha, I feel like I've read a different VN entirely. If I'm not remembering this wrong, they include it in the movie as a short scene at least.

So I just watched a playthrough of the Chaos;Child demo... Oh god, let's just say that the first scene easily beats the previously mentioned worst scene in Chaos;Head. Easily. Chaos;Head spoilers I really want to read it now, kami Nitro+ help us!
-
Oh I'd be surprised if Chaos;Child wouldn't get releases on different consoles, if I am not mistaken, quite some of the previous VNs by 5pb./MAGES. were exclusive to the Microsoft consoles at first for whatever reason. As for the translation... yeah, that'll be a problem. Still, with S;G getting a Vita release, there's a small possibility at least. In the worst case scenario, someone can just translate the recorded footage-- I don't remember who it was, but someone on Fuwa translated one of the S;G fandiscs this way. To get back on topic though, still continuing Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete. The senpai route is pretty fun so far, although she is sadly falling into the very predictable personality pattern. Well, like anything else in this story so far, anyway - this route (and Airi's) also make Kaori an incredibly contradictory character, who for some reason gets super jealous because of Yui in the first route, but acts in a completely opposite way in the other two. If being incredibly convenient is the entire point of this VN, then it's doing it all too well. Also being boring, they do that well too... time loops are cool and all, but not when you go as far as to repeat the same jokes every single time. Doesn't help that the skip function is hopelessly broken. .-.

I covered it up, so you can edit your reply too if you really feel like it's necessary - though I think it was so removed from context that it can hardly be considered a spoiler at all. Anyway, it's awesome to see some Chaos;Head discussion, since this VN tends to come up only when it gets hated on, which is a shame. I enjoyed it a lot myself, particularly the first half. Here's hoping Chaos;Child is just a timed exclusive. At least a PS4/Vita release would be nice!

If you're lucky, you'll enjoy the comedy like I did - the VN doesn't really have much more beside that. MLA is much better, but it's not some amazing masterpiece some people would lead you to believe either.

Oh, I see. Well, I've heard good things about Kotori's route, and I would be lying if I said I didn't find her cute, so I think I'll give KonoSora another shot. Since I'll be re-reading it anyway, I'll just go with the original version to save my eyes from the terror that is MoeNovel, perhaps that'll improve the experience a lot. :x

Yeah, but then again the common route didn't seem to have anything going for it either, and Ageha's route, despite how bad it was at times, seemed to conclude the entire story rather well. The art is nice for sure, do the other routes have anything more, though?
-
Ageha's route was the only thing I read from KonoSora, and it made me not want to touch the entire VN ever again.

No Subarashiki Hibi? Madness.

Just finished Airi's route (and the bonus ending) in Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete. I'm still not enjoying it, although the plot does feel a little bit less artificially convenient and stupid now with some more details revealed. It's still not good though, and generally kind of boring. I was smiling like an idiot throughout all of the romance this time though, Airi is really cute. Also finished the fourth chapter in Senshinkan. Felt a bit shorter this time, just moving the plot forward a little bit-- though it feels like shit will hit the fan really bad, non-stop, from this point onward. It's time for the dream war, and I am both super excited for and afraid of the chuuni writing madness.

But next to If My Heart Had Wings, I think the choice is clear - I haven't read Yume Miru, but IMHHW is nothing more than mediocre charage with nice visuals. With a shitty translation on top, I'd vote for the first option myself.

I don't like recommending this, but if you're looking for a 'dark' protagonist, you might want to wait for euphoria to get translated.

Now that the topic is properly (?) revived, I can't hold back my spam anymore. Subarashiki Hibi's OST is so good that picking a single song feels like a huge disservice. Definitely a well earned second spot right under Umineko, but competing with Umineko will never be fair thanks to it's ~100 songs.

I'd be happy if they just adapted the whole Phenomeno series, instead of just the first case.

VNs with 'dark' or otherwise twisted and unusual romance?
Vokoca replied to Vokoca's topic in Recommendations
Woah, so many recommendations. After reading Muramasa, which was pretty much my entry-VN into the (untranslated) chuuni genre, I knew this sub-section of VNs was something different entirely. Well, to be fair I probably started with just a very good VN, but I assume there are quite some other titles on that level. Dies Irae definitely looks impressive, and so does KKK - I'll just probably give the light library a rest for a bit after Senshinkan, so I don't read all the good stuff in one go. The only VN I've played from that list was Reminiscence. I wasn't too impressed by it to be honest, as it felt just like a (good) charage with some nice ideas, some of which weren't that well realised (I kept waiting for the protagonist to show his fabled genius side, but the writer didn't seem to handle that all too well, sadly), though Aki's route was definitely the highlight. With the ending aside, it was definitely the best route... they probably should've made her the main heroine instead of Kizuna in that sense. Definitely saving this post for that huge list, thanks again. I'm just wondering, is Secret Game Code:Revise actually any good? I've tried reading Secret Game (the Killer Queen remake) and had to give up after one episode because it all felt just really flat. Do they improve on that at all? -

Oh, very interesting! I think I'll make this my next VN then, sounds very promising. Now that you mention it, those AkaGoei's paths really fit, can't believe I forgot to mention those. They were probably my favourite routes, too. Muramasa was also great, yeah, already mentioned that one. Harumade, Kururu was tempting me for quite some time now - I've unfortunately spoiled myself on that genre shift it has, but I suppose I would've never bothered with it otherwise-- I'm still planning to read that soon. Thanks for those other two routes too, I will keep them in mind for the specific routes. Well, you guys have convinced me, I'm going for Devils Devel Concept as soon as I finish Senshinkan. Thanks for all the tips! -

Hm, yeah, BDSM stuff isn't rea-- WHAT, I'M IN! In all seriousness, as long as it has an interesting story, I don't really care if it is a nukige or not. I mean, I did read euphoria, and I would be lying if I said I din't like it... But yeah, loops are like a huge weakness of mine, so I'm adding this to my list no matter how weird and bad it might be. Ah, the VN I see Clephas mention every now and then. Got any impressions of your own on it?
