Finished chapter 2 of Danganronpa 2 - and while the first mystery was great, this one completely kicks the hsit out of the previous game. I hope the keep this pace up. Ah, I see. Yeah, 10-12 definitely is too much. As for the new minigames, they are honestly pretty bad in my opinion, only the Nonstop Debate got improved, and one other minigame that gets revealed later is pretty fun.

12 minutes?! I'm playing on Mean (just for puzzles, left the action difficulty as is) and they give you barely 5 minutes per minigame. About 30 seconds on the choice things.

To put it simply while spoiling as little as possible, it is about Kageaki Minato, a policeman following the trail of the mysterious massacres caused by someone (or something) dubbed the Silver Star. That's, at least, how the plot might look like at first, but just know there's much, much more to it than that. At its core, Muramasa focuses on the philosophy of good and evil, heroism, justice, revenge and plain murder itself; it offers a very realistic and bleak outlook on all of those within the finely crafted and interesting sci-fi/fantasy setting. It's an incredibly long VN, so it's pretty much impossible to sum it up in one paragraph... but the most important thing to remember is that this is not the story of a hero.

If you thought that was bad, the VN is going to absolutely destroy you later on.

. I've seen this game on a Vita sale once and it piqued my interest a bit - but you just completely sold me! I absolutely love bad ends when done right, and this sounds plain amazing, adding it to the top of my to-read list. As for my suggestion... if you're looking for some a bit unconventional choices, check out Kara no Shoujo. Each day you get to pick where to go on a map, rather than picking from a set of choices - and you also get to investigate the crime scenes and solve the mystery on your own. The story ends depending on how you do - and it almost never ends well. KEY VNs were also mentioned a lot already, but I would like to bring attention to Clannad specifically. Out of the KEY VNs I've played, Clannad provides the most choices, most flexible 'common route' and a plethora of routes. If you're looking for an interactive story that changes constantly according to almost every single choice you make, this might be your best bet from the translated bunch.

Mikan is the cutest. <3 The DR1 jabs only get weirder as it continues. Finished chapter 1 myself, and I'm not even sure how to take it anymore.

Umineko: Official Explanation. Do you believe in it? *SPOILERS*
Vokoca replied to Nagisa_Fawkes's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Shkanon not only makes the most sense thematically, but it's also clearly canon. Even if Ryu was trolling with Our Confessions, you can't really afford to troll with manga, can you? Then again, does the truth really matter? After reading episode eight, I'd honestly say it doesn't at all, and that's one of the things I loved about Umineko so much. The themes are the important thing here, not so much the 'facts'. -
Downloading DanganRonpa 2, uuuuu~

I'm planning on reading Senshinkan, I even have the physical copy, but it just scares me away every single time. It took me quite some effort to get through Muramasa, and to think that's easy in comparison.... oh god. Well, I can't keep running away forever, but sheesh.

Making steady progress through Nemu's route (I think ?) in euphoria. Picked her first for the obvious reasons. She's irritating as all hell, but I suppose I'll just stick with it till the end. 3 more turns to go, I wonder what they have in stock next. So far, the grossest thing was the very first thing in the VN, funnily enough. What can I say, scat is gross no matter how I look at it, and I'll never understand why that would ever turn anyone on, but hey... I guess there are people liking that stuff out there. The actual 'game' turns were not much worse than certain Grisaia's h-scenes so far, maybe even better, but I still haven't seen almost anything, so I probably just jinxed myself. All in all, not so eager, but I'm going to stick with it for one route at the very least. I'll see how it goes from there. As for what I want to really read, my next pick is RuiTomo. I was looking forward to this for quite some time; not only because I wanted to read something a bit lighter after all the gritty stuff (not sure how that will go, since it's Akatsuki), but mainly because of the trap main character. Yes I have weird tastes, but it just sounds so interesting... especially because this isn't a nukige. Really looking forward to where they go with it.

I am planning on reading it eventually, but looking at the ratings, I'm not in much of a rush.

Today is the day - I've finished Muramasa. Damn that was long... and amazing! I was a bit torn at first, because some of the scenes I wanted to see were skipped for pacing reasons, but once again they got me with the epilogue. They really know how to end their stories - a well earned 10/10 from me, an absolute must read. As for what's next... Finally Unfortunately my curiosity has won over my sanity and I've picked up euphoria. I'm no fan of nukige, and definitely not torture porn, but I just have to see how bad it can really be. I've also heard the story is good, so that's about my only hope going into this - I wonder how far I can make it!

Hmmm...I usually use walkthroughs in order to save time and get 100% completion, but if you insist that it'll ruin the story, I'll consider not using one. I haven't spoiled the plot by using one so far, but I'll take your word on it. Are the h-scenes important to the story or something? 'cause if not, I wouldn't be surprised if they just cut them out, like Sekai is doing with Kajitsu. I just like to discover the structure (and routes) of the VN on my own. Those are usually just small details, but I like to go into VNs blind. If you feel like that doesn't matter much or that bad ends are a pain, by all means go with the walkthrough. The thing with Cross+Channel is that it is quite reliant on the ero thanks to the main character. That made it incredibly hard to get into for me at first - the first impression is very off-putting to say the least, if you don't like nukige - but at least there is a plot-related reason for it. It's no Fate/stay night-like afterthought, but they probably could've done without the extremely long h-scenes too. The important fact is that they're in there - you can skip the contents itself without losing much, I think. I did the same too. I suppose they just skip the h itself in the console version? I'm just curious how they go about it.

Maybe I'm too dumb to understand. Oh well. no point killing myself about it I had a hard time reading it as well, which was largely the main character's fault. There was a certain charm to it once I got past the first or second segment, but I still ended up giving it a 7/10. Didn't read the additional story, though.

Still playing Muramasa. I think I am nearing the ending - I've already finished the 'bad' one (and damn Kageaki was the pinnacle of badassery there ). There are still some things left unanswered, so I am hoping they sort all that out before the ending - it all depends on how this ends; if it's amazing, it's an easy 10/10 from me. Oh also, there was a joke part where about every single heroine from previous Nitro+ titles makes a cameo. I think I've never laughed so hard - and by the time Saya showed up, I was nearly dying. The humour in this VN is incredible, it's so absurd and out of nowhere that it gets me every single time. I haven't read Saya no Uta, but I know the plot, since I looked it up after people were talking about it. Gore and weird-ass h-scenes, gore and weird-ass h-scenes everywhere. Huh. Should be interesting, then. Most VNs that are structured differently tend to be at least interesting, if not good. Nothing bugs me as much as a crappy ending, so I'm happy to know I won't be irritated after finishing Cross Channel. No way! Saya no Uta is about love and cute lolis. As for Cross Channel, the ending is decent. It's nothing mindblowing, but it is satisfying, in one way or another. Also, I know I say this pretty much every single time, but play without a walkthrough if you can. The interesting structure is one of the VNs (plot-related) strong-points, and spoling that with a walkthrough would be a shame. The choices aren't difficult to understand at all - and even if you were to get frustrated for a little bit, that only plays into the VN's plot in my opinion. Speaking of all-ages stuff, there is a console port of Cross+Channel. I wonder what they do with the h-scenes in that...

Which Visual Novels Would You Like To See Get Translated?
Vokoca replied to Kimanor's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I would say Muramasa just to see how they tackle that (amazing) language madness, but we all know that will never happen. If I had to pick something actually possible, I'd definitely go with Akatsuki no Goei - seeing how succesful Grisaia was, this would definitely be a step in the right direction. -
Now all you need to do is continue that awesome ride with AkaGoei. It's funny, all of the VNs I've read that had anything to do with them had interesting MCs. Definitely the one thing they do really well.

Is there any VN with NEET/Hikikomori/Otaku protagonist?
Vokoca replied to Okami's topic in Recommendations
You don't choose to be a hikikomori, you're forced into that lifestyle by either the society or your own inability - or both. There's a difference between being lazy and escapism, and being a hikikomori is the later. Those are just my two cents though, I'm no expert in sociology or psychology. As for AXANAEL, if you can understand spoken Japanese at least, you're pretty much set - there's little to none narration in that thing. -
Is there any VN with NEET/Hikikomori/Otaku protagonist?
Vokoca replied to Okami's topic in Recommendations
I'd also recommend C;H, the MC fits the bill perfectly. Other than that, only AXANAEL comes to mind - one of the protagonists there is a hikikomori as well. That only made it better for me, really - it showed the matter how it really is. That kind of life isn't supposed to be awesome and fun, it's supposed to be bad. Yet I could easily relate to the main character to a certain degree; ouch. -
AW YEAH! You're in for a hell of a ride! On the last route myself. Oh, by the way - I bought Hachimyoujin (man dat artbook), so I should be getting around to it eventually. Might take a short break from hard stuff after Muramasa, but I'm getting there.

How do you guys move/start a new route?
Vokoca replied to CharlotteHelene's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Yeah, Grisaia has that one. Some of the Nitro+ VNs have a button that works similarly to that, but it also stops on unread text. -
What English Original VN are you looking forward to?
Vokoca replied to Kimanor's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I am honestly kind of looking forward to that dating sim with swearing all over the place. I sadly forgot the name, but it looked pretty hilarious. -
Akatsuki no Goei would probably be my pick, especially the first one since it never gets too serious. Though I have to say that humour works surprisingly good in serious VNs, or at least it does on me. The best example I have would be Muramasa - the VN is extremely dark and broody 95% of the time, yet it has some incredible jokes peppered through it that come absolutely out of nowhere. You could perhaps even say they intentionally come at the worst times possible, and it feels so bizarre that it actually ends up being really hilarious in the end.
