I did read Corpse Party (BloodCovered + 2) and AXANAEL together with my roommate. Yeah, at the same time. It was... well, it was pretty hilarious. Especially when the h-scenes came along, it got really funny. But we got through the whole thing with no issues and enjoyed it. That's about it, though.

Saya No Uta:Extended Thoughts and Questions (SPOILERS)
Vokoca replied to babiker's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Which is pretty much murdering the entire population, isn't it? Everyone is going to look at this a little bit differently, which is why I think the VN is so good. -
I've sidestepped around this topic for quite a long time, though I guess I throw in my opinion as well. I can actually think of a VN where the h-scenes are absolutely pivotal to the whole work itself - though, to be fair, that whole work is a deconstruction of eroge itself, which, obviously, is a medium full of h content. Sure, the h-scenes are there for the usual reasons, but even that fact itself is used in favour of its whole concept. I'm not going to name the VN since that'd probably completely spoil it, but the people who read most of Nitro+ work should know what I'm talking about. That said, that is just a rare exception, and one that pretty much just proves the rule. The VN itself flat out admits that you are supposed to fap to that, which is why the scenes are so detailed in the first place, it's silly to deny that. Sure, I can think of some VNs where the h-scenes could be used to disturb the reader, such as Saya no Uta or Muramasa - but honestly, I think you could fap to that too if you tried (some people might even without trying ). I generally dislike h-scenes and they get worse the longer they are, but I'd be lying if I claimed I never liked any. I really don't like them when they clash with the story, but if they are worked in well enough (or, in some cases even manage to add to it), it isn't so bad. Lets not forget that VNs definitely are not the only medium with sex in it, there are plenty of other works - books, movies, games - with those themes depicted one way or the other. Can it fit to a specific kind of a story? Yes. Can it add to it? Yes, it can. But is it necessary? No, I wouldn't say so. Because h is what sells in Japan? That's my guess, anyway.

Saya No Uta:Extended Thoughts and Questions (SPOILERS)
Vokoca replied to babiker's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Lets be real now. This is a thread dedicated to discussing the visual novel - anyone in their right mind wouldn't click this if they haven't read it yet. If someone gets spoiled this way, it's their own fault. The substance of the VN was discussed here ever since the first post, I don't see why things should get spoiler tagged now. I've chosen my words poorly. The choice itself doesn't imply any moral differences, yes - what I was referring to was your outlook at its outcomes. You could argue that there is no good and bad in this story, but if we look at it purely subjectively, I think we could see either of the endings as good, or bad - which, of course, changes depending on which perspective we take. From Fuminori's point of view, the ending here Saya wins is "good", while the other isn't. What I wanted to ask is what side do you prefer, as in, what do you consider to be the "true" conclusion to the story, as it more or less lets you pick. -
Saya No Uta:Extended Thoughts and Questions (SPOILERS)
Vokoca replied to babiker's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It could be interesting to compare which ending was your favourite/most fitting for you? One of the VNs biggest strengths is how it offers more views and doesn't force them on you - the questions of morality are thrown at you, and based on their answers you get the ending that should be more comfortable for you. Which one was it? Personally, I've liked Fuminori's an Saya's ending the best. I've honestly rooted for both of them, no matter how harmful that might've been to the rest of humanity. Now, I've really liked Kouji's ending too, since it had that classic horror feeling, but as for my preferred conclusion, it's definitely the former. -
Awesome, sold.

I was considering buying this for the Vita, but does/will it have the original VA? I'll buy the english one if it does, though I might go for the japanese one otherwise.

And you don't seem to understaaand~♪ Err, sorry. Unless I forgot, I'm pretty sure Grisaia was set in the same year it came out on, 2011.

Saya No Uta:Extended Thoughts and Questions (SPOILERS)
Vokoca replied to babiker's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Well, with Chiral yaoi stuff that would be already more uncomfortable to me than anything else aside, I don't think comparing Saya no Uta to titles from ClockUp, which are made for a very specific audience to fap to rather than disturb them, is really fair. Besides, it is the philosophy that's supposed to creep you out, not the imagery. And yeah, Kara no Shoujo can be more disturbing just because how grounded it is compared to Saya, but again, different kind of disturbing. -
Saya No Uta:Extended Thoughts and Questions (SPOILERS)
Vokoca replied to babiker's topic in Visual Novel Talk
There's a difference between being scary and being creepy, and Saya no Uta goes for the later rather than the former. It doesn't attempt to scare you with gruesome scenery, monsters and death - instead, it makes you cope with it. When the story starts, you might think that everything is gross and horrible, and you want nothing more but to get away from it. But just like Fuminori, you gradually get used to the macabre by the constant exposure, and by the time the choice presents itself to escape the hell, it is very well possible that you don't even want to take it anymore - I know that I did not. And that's the truly creepy thing about the story in my opinion; you get used to the grotesque so much that by the end, what the protagonist does seems perfectly right. After all, it's for Saya, right? -
Took a short break from Muramasa to read more Reminiscence. Just got past the OP and to the main heroine. Kizuna, huh? Wait, that Kizuna? That's... that's... *mindblown*

I want to recommend titles to a newcomer friend of mine.
Vokoca replied to Lord Zero's topic in Recommendations
For untranslated games, I would recommend Akatsuki no Goei. It's kind of like Grisaia without the military vocab - so it isn't that difficult to read. The MC is great, the humour is amazing, and the overall story is also interesting if you like slice-of-life with some spice to it. The second game is a bit more difficult since it focuses on the politics a bit more, but the overall writing style is still relatively simple. -
^ For me, it was Amane>Makina>Sachi>Michiru>Yumiko. Despite my inability to sympathise with Michiru and her route being out-of-place, it was still somehow more enjoyable than the straight up badly written Yumiko one. As for the first three, they were not only much better done, but they also contained information about the greater plot and Yuuji's past - which instantly made me like them much more than the rest. Finally got some more time in between exams and finished Kanae's route in Muramasa. Damn that was long - and awesome! In the end, what I liked the most about the story was how detailed the characters were. The parts where the narrative delves deep into the characters' mind and follows their train of thought as they confront their problems were easily my favourite. Of course, the writing was also excellent in the fight scenes and their ever present infodumps (I almost feel like I could go into air combat myself right now), and the overall presentation, art, effects and sound keep up the high Nitro+ standard. In fact, with the numerous animated cutscenes, this is probably the best I've seen from them so far. tl;dr I've really enjoyed it a lot and I am looking forward to the rest. I haven't read the rest yet, but Muramasa is definitely worth it!

On the topic of Umineko, how come no one posted Discolor yet? http://youtu.be/x_2Sso-JoO4

Congrats, Nosebleed!

You don't like it even at episode 5? I loved that one, it's like everything you know and expect from the VN gets turned on its head in that one. And those new tracks, damn. <3 But hey, opinions.
-
and it's all in her mind. That'd be hilarious, I'd read it. ...I should really go think over my sense of humour for a moment. But I doubt this will be anything serious. Don't forget that Frontwing used to do pretty much nothing but nukige before they made Grisaia, so there should be nothing surprising about a non-serious title. Unless this is some sort of a magnificent troll, of course.

If you were to look strictly at the VNs making it over recently, it'd seem bestiality is all the rage in the west. What's next? Are we getting that bug otome game too?
-
Well, you're missing out. I for one liked tat MC. Made for a very refreshing look at a thriller/supernatural story without that classic "I can do this!" kind of MC.
-
I would recommend this order as well.

Picked up the Freedom Wars demo in the middle of finals. It wasn't a good idea...
