Pqube localizing Steins;Gate 0, 2016, PS4/Vita, Preorders Up
novurdim replied to Funyarinpa's topic in Visual Novel Talk
The game is now officially slated for November 25/29. There's also a somewhat interesting message from the main translator on the ps blog. https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2016/10/28/japanese-visual-novel-steinsgate-0-gets-eu-release-date-new-trailer/ -
Actually no, 5pb is a publisher of the console version so Navel could have a problem with them only if they decided to port the vita ver. But at the same time Navel do have their own all ages pc ver so the point is moot.

VN features a completely different story so I doubt this is much of an advice.

Sekai Project fails to secure nearly finished Baldr Sky fan TL

Probably something in the vein of a personal animosity, neither Aroduc nor Dovac are the most likeable people. Wouldn't surprise me if the whole drama stems from the disdain they might feel for each other, it's not like we know how exactly Aroduc asked/proposed things or how he had been refused. -
Chrono Clock Sudden Kickstarter Announced
novurdim replied to littleshogun's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It's really, really hard not to notice a censorship as blatant as theirs, and I sure hope you don't mean Chrono Clock here. -
What do you call Sorcery Jokers then? I'm also somewhat surprised people are bringing up SteamSpy in this discussion. Galyonkin himself frequently says that there's close to no point in looking up numbers for games with less than 5k sales on SS. It simply can't adequately count them.

Playing VNs on consoles is quite amazing, just saying. Also PP for PC only happened during the localization so pretty sure right now they'll announce it only for vita/ps4, not much point in giving people hope just yet.
-
Losing the original audience in the process sure was the ingenious decision. It's not so much about women as more about how the usual Paul Feig's comedy is pretty insulting for anyone with a brain and now they decided to let him cosplay as GB. You guys are falling for the orchestrated by Sony themselves "misogyny scandal" way too strongly. Though I don't really see how it's relevant to the discussion about censorship, it's mostly just banal idiocy.

Frontwing asks your thoughts on an issue regarding Corona Blossom
novurdim replied to trickzzter's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It'd be hilarious if CB got a surge of sales now just because quite a few people suddenly wanted to understand why it's not performing well and bought the game for that purpose. -
I have my doubts there'll be any in a usually tame all-ages steam version though.
-
Meh, I'd say cropping of the event CGs is a bit more hurtful than that of some random backgrounds.
-
From what I remember out of previous discussions, they did at the very least censore some backstories (like Wilhelm's or Schreiber's, maybe even heavily) and something about a severed head...? Man, my mind is way too fuzzy about the rest. Pity they can't at least bring back all the gore and details.

Tolerable. May bite later. -
There's not much point to it when everyone has already voted lol Oh well, better late than never.
-
Yeah, without Aksys, PQube, Frontwing and Visual Arts the poll doesn't really feel complete. Most of my votes went to MG, though it has been a pretty exciting ride from almost everyone (well, maybe not JAST >_>). Let's just hope the industry won't fall over itself in the coming years.

Nowadays most of the good otome games are coming out on vita in Japan so it's only logical that you get one if you are a fan of those things, not that poor and don't have a flaming hatred toward handhelds in general. Vita announcements are in no way inferior to PC ones in that regard so I don't really see anything sad about it, I may even go as far as saying that usually I enjoy reading non-galge VNs on a portable more than on PC. But that's beside the point as I just mean that those are real full-fledged big announcements and I know quite a lot of people excited about them. Just because they are not coming to PC doesn't mean they are insignificant crumbs or something. Now that would sure be great. Let's hope Rance sells good enough to warrant a timely release of the other games.
-
On the other hand, otome crowd got like 4 great new announcements from Aksys just the other day at AX so it's really hard to say that they are underserved this year. Awesome announcements from MG all around. Tad upset by the absence of Evenicle in the foreseeable future, but at the same time very excited for Sorcery Jokers and Sona-nyl.

If in the process we are going to casually swap their minds with random american brats then we probably should indeed, my little juggler. I do understand the sentiment and maybe I'd even do the same in some cases but these things still always rub me the wrong way. Making several wrong steps, losing balance in the process and people can get to the disasters akin to some of the nintendo "localizations". VNs are way too niche for the something like that, of course, but you still can't escape the sour aftertaste.
-
Right, obviously not because it simply doesn't require a hundread footnotes. And even then I believe I've seen a few in my Amphora translation, can't say they destroyed the experience or could have taken me out of anything. On the other side, that I can actually say about a random Bruno Mars discussion in a japanese highschool.
-
Obvious to me that the translator's ability to recognize the reference and pass it on to the readers should be valued higher and never would I trade a chance to learn something new for the tired mainstream american substitute that almost feels like a cultural superiority complex. Oh well, still kudos to you for remembering and telling me about Eco, my point now certainly looks a lot more moot to the most.
-
While I like the translation overall, I... can't really agree with this part. People are already reading visual novels with certain "exotic" expectations, they know how these works of fiction are inherently japanese and are usually ready to encounter some specific things that they may have to look up. There's nothing wrong with that, it doesn't hamper the "experience" and globalization/localization is not a goal in itself. And at the same time would you agree with the same change during the translation of the "big" literature? Would any "professional translator" that Conj likes to bring up think this is a good idea? Would changing Ishiguro to Akunin in the context of, say, "writing a butler story reference" during the translation to russian just because he is a lot more famous in Russia and most people will "have the same experience without looking up what was the talk about that person all about" be deemed as acceptable by avid russian readers? Or by anyone for that matter. Why should gamers be treated any different and why should weird double standards be created specifically for them? Or vice-versa, if you think that example is too famous. I doubt many of you know Lev Leschenko, so should he be just changed to Tom Jones on a translator's whim in a translation of a russian story? Just so people shouldn't have to look into the estrade of a different country and continue reading with the similar analogue in mind? I don't believe that's how "delivering the same experience" works.

Baldry Sky 18+ version poll on Sekai Project forums
novurdim replied to sanahtlig's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Not at all. Messages are abstract, you never know the will of how many people one message from the registered user imply. But poll is a completely different thing, even if you must register to vote, the first reaction is "why don't they just vote, they don't even have to write anything, that just probably means that not many people need it, after all the number of votes is not even that much bigger than the number of posts." That's why 20 detailed posts about how you know that many people want 18+ always weight a lot more than 30-40 votes in a straightforward poll. And you do understand that not many people will want to register on their forum just for one vote so it's not like you'll be able to amass a convincing number that way. They won't even have to read the messages you leave.
