  1. They have actually release two flagrant nukiges too. Must be one of their better years.
  2. Led in the past*
  3. To me it seems like you just have very different ideas of what a good translation is, no real need to bite people. Though maybe I'm even on your side, I didn't play SakuSaku or ChCl but I did get annoyed at times when Himawari's translation straight up added literal wordy interpretations of the simple japanese phrases that I didn't even agree with when I looked at the immediate context.
  4. Firstly, I seriously don't get what you even mean by better times if we are still talking about the sales in the West. Those times when we only had Final Fantasy and a dozen of other most high-profile games? Ya, we still have them and FF XV, for the most obvious example, is the most succesful launch of the franchise. And FF XV isn't even a good game by any margin but you usually have to release something as god-awful as Valkyria Revolution to get a real drop in sales. Secondly, there's absolutely nothing wrong with releasing games on portable devices and it's not indicative of anything, are you console racist or something. Not to mention that your words would make sense during the PSP age (also we ain't got no localization on the vast majority of that portable colossus library by the way, ah those great better times) but today? Not a chance, the market has shifted again. And it's coming from me, a big fan of the handhelds in general and vita in particular so please no weird assumptions or insults to its library simply because you have nothing of substance to say.
  5. Again, in general their sales in the west have dramatically improved. That's exactly why everything is getting localized nowadays, something we could never dream about before. Your doom and gloom is based on either nothing or odd failures. We also don't measure the actual quality of the games right now since it's another question altogether.
  6. Why would you ever need to compare them to Witcher? They sell more than ever, they draw more attention than ever and in general they are more successful than ever. What bubble in the West are we taking about exactly? With the same logic anything is in decline if you compare it to GTA.
  7. Guys, I don't want to let you down but most likely there won't be any restoration patch if the translation is as bad as konozora's. The current "restorators" have already mentioned that they won't work on any future MoeNovel failures and considering the state of the fantranslation scene and the amount of work needed I kinda doubt anyone competent would want to work on it.
  8. I strongly disagree. They draw a lot of attention, sometimes even not the blockbuster ones, and set one record after another, making almost every decent JRPG a confident contender for a localization. We just have an insane amount of them now and got used to it. Upd: ah, wait, did you mean a bubble in Japan. Then nevermind.
  9. Well, outside of the famous most demanded titles I'd really like to see some of the recent thriller or hybrid eroge localized, like ChronoBox, Ouka Sabaki, maybe Shinsou Noise. Even if they ended up being not all that great per se.
  10. Nowadays so few at least relatively "big" VN companies fit your description that it's not much of a nutshell tbh.
  11. A decent idea is there and I know these are just basic examples from the top of your head, but good god, I'd honestly rather see an odd and unintuitive but still harmless asa-bat than spectate this festival of cringe the whole game. Argh. No offense.
  12. I am Groot since 1990. The usual: shady and unconfirmed rumors from the "close sources" (i. e. Moogy and other "hey I know Makoto/Payne!"). I believe I saw some even here last year. They are obviously not that trustworthy but would at least partly explain the jinxed release.
  13. They were suddenly retranslating huge chunks of it so not really. Though at this point I'm not even sure if Sumaga exists at all.
  14. You guys are fun and everything but I really doubt they have enough money and connections for your blockbusters yet.
  15. Well, the thing is: they actually did. It had a pretty long prefundia and some sites advertised it but nowadays it's pretty hard to get more mainstream exposure even for the KS of the bigger publishers like Front Wing or Sekai. Just how many news websites reported on Subahibi? VN KS is not something new and unusual like before so even these companies have to rely on their loyal fanbase they had a chance to amass. Plus SS isn't even something literally anyone has ever been hyped for before. Probably the best thing Sol Press can do right now is releasing that promised demo and striking a deal with other publishers to get a shout out in the updates of the big and succesful Kickstarters.
  16. I did skim through the comments on the train without reading much into them but they do say that it's purple prosy only for the sake of being purple prosy and impressing the reader. Without examples it sounds like a pretty weird accusation when we talk about Dies. And as for throwawaydiesirae, while the sentence itself needs some tweaking I really don't see anything wrong with a high schooler using words like aberration or liquidation which was his main point. Alas, the translation is indeed far from perfect and I'm just pointing several amusing things among that wall of text.
  17. I somehow doubt that even a single of those reddit commenters actually knows enough Japanese to say that the English translation is too "awkwardly flowery" when compared to the original. But the best part was that guy saying "he is still in high school, why doesn't he talk like an average kid!? What a clumsy translation!" Indeed, my man, indeed. On the topic, clearly the translation could be considerably better, but Light probably simply doesn't care enough about it to give the guys more time for the polish or release patches. They hired Regista to organize the process, which they did and did pretty well, and after that likely don't even communicate much with the West. Regista's job is done long ago and Light only cares about the fact that the game was released so seriously believing in post-launch support was naive to begin with. Plus they still have that 18+ patch to deal with. Oh well.
  18. There's so much wrong with this post that I mentally broke and lifelessly stared at the scared passersby for at least ten minutes.
  19. I too would be glad to see Fairytale Requiem announced but with how MG didn't even start their work on Sona-nyl yet, it's probably unlikely. If we also count the partners that got an announcement on Anime Expo the other day (Moonstone, Alicesoft, Circus) as unlikely then I'll just boringly root for Purple's Amatsutsumi, Propeller's Evolimit and Chuable's Byakko like everyone else. Would certainly be nice to see one of the recent big minori VNs but their announcement is probably gonna end up being the 2 chapter of Supipara which will "accidentally" gather enough funds just in time for another expo.
  20. Apparently, it's not. Steam is well aware of it.
  21. Obviously it's to sell their game on the by far most popular platform for PC games (Steam) with the least amount of cost and effort (only one "free" patch for anyone who bought the Steam "demo"). Otherwise you'd have to edit the whole game to be all-ages first which is a pretty difficult and time/money-consuming endeavor for the developer.
  22. Sooner or later we are going to have a huge media scandal with these blatant nukiges on steam, sigh.
  23. http://solpress.co/product/1/sakura-sakura# >Vol. 1 of Sakura Sakura Wait, volume 1? I wonder if their website just tags everything as a light novel hence the "volumes" or they are seriously going to somehow sell SS in parts.
  24. Sounds like a perfectly accurate description of ROM if you ask me.
  25. Moenovel's business practices and overall attitude toward western gamers is so heinous it's almost art.
